Title: My helmet repaint (now done)
Post by: Lynn TXP 0369 on Oct 10, 2015, 07:33 AM
I just got this new helmet at Target this past week and it will be the base for my new costume.
It is the new Rubies deluxe Boba Fett bucket that is absolutely AWESOME!
I started to take out the visor and making a new flatter base for the new visor to fit in and be attached.

I got the new visor cut out and ready to install into the helmet.

I used pin post screws with the screw part epoxied to the helmet, modified picture hangers, and nuts to hold everything together. I got to find some 8/32 thumb nuts to fit the screws instead of the nuts as it will make visor removal much easier.

Everything is tested, I just have to wait 24 hrs for the epoxy to fully cure before I put full pressure on them to hold down the visor.

I did a similar mounting method on my old MSH helmet and it is a proven method I developed along time ago.

I just got to find more them thumb nuts at Lowe's for this new visor.

Got the dent re sculpted with some AVES epoxy putty so it looked more like a dent instead of a molded pushed in blah...

First three are colors on,  I modified the dent so it looks more like a gouge with a  different shape, and not looking like a Boba dent.

hello vod, if I was you I would fill the dent completely as it's also the position of it that makes it instantly recocnisable as boba fett. which could give you problems getting approved.

Will take note, if an approval member looks at this, please LMK if my modded dent is good to be let go or not.

Base weathering areas started, I still have to do the back of the blue and dome top when dent area is ready for paint.

The rest of the weathering will be painted by hand using brushes and sponges.

Good job so far, bit of a heads up for you though, it's against forum rules to double post even on your own thread. I've been scolded a couple times myself. You can modify a post though and "bump" your thread if you want though. Great job on the target fett so far by the way. Are you planning on cutting out the vents on the back?

Basically, the rules go "don't post twice in a row on the same day."  If someone else has posted in between your posts, or it's been a day or so since the last post, you're good to go.  If you have progress to add and yours is the last post, usually the best thing to do is to edit your previous post.

Interesting take on the weathering - is the silver added on top?

Gotcha! That is not stated in the rules as to being that specific way. It only says 8. Please refrain from making double posts. Use the 'modify' button to fix or update a post if you were the last person to add to a discussion.

I'm weathering the helmet topically just like the real Boba Fett helmet was done in Empire and ROTJ , which means the weathering layers were applied and painted on top of each other, not masked and painted from the bottom up to the top, topically is done from the top up to the bottom.  After the weathering is done it sprayed a matt or flat clear to blend everything together, and make it all "POP" together.

My helmet is done on the outside.
I got to put a couple more coats of clear on it, but it is done.
I detailed it with a few things, the new RF stock is made from cut down 1/8" aluminum flat stock. I have to do some work on the inside and I make a chin cup for it.

This looks awesome!  8)

I am re-doing a couple of Target Helmets right now. I suppose I should do a thread on them.  :P It's nice to see these things turning out so nice.

I repainted my bucket after seeing my helmet with the white suit and soon to be white armor.
There is too much color going on with the bucket and white theme of the suit, it will not look right for how I vision it, so it needed to be changed.

The grey will go much better with the white theme.

Yeah, I did too, but it will stick out like a sore thumb if I left it like that and it will bug me until I repaint, so may as well get it done now!

Thanks for the comps guys.
