It's time for my 3rd approved kit build. This will be my 'end game' ROTJ build. From as much machined metal as I dare use, to as many batteries, lights and servos that I can hold... and even a functional flamethrower.
Most of the pieces are pictured, all are collected, some still need to be made (or remade). A majority of my orders are filled, and I can finally star to focus on my own kits again.
I will be periodically updating, hopefully with progress pics. I know I haven't been good making WIP threads in the past, but mostly because I'm powering through my next kit build. This one will be a labor of love, and likely my "default" kit. The other kits may just have to hang out on mannequins in the future.
Anyway... You all have been warned. :P
-
I'm curious about the functional flamethrower. Are you planning on using a butane canister that's removable in the flamethrower or simple LED lights like some other builds have done. A real flamethrower would require metal flamethrower box and greebies due to the heat involved (not to mention an electric ignition). Some other ideas I had to modify my current flamethrower was to have it eject compressed smoke lite up with a high powered orange LED so it remains nonlethal.
Looks like all quality components from what I see so far...will be an interesting build to follow.

Thanks Don,
The flamethrower is more of a fireball shooter. As I said on TDH a fee months back, "I'd rather not be a walking Molotov cocktail when surrounded by a bunch of kids". The shooter uses a glow plug to ignite and propel rice paper. It's manually loaded and wirelessly fired... Also, removable.
I'll be posting individual pics as I have the time. But you're correct in assuming they're all quality pieces. I wouldn't do a full build another way.
-
Well... Today the only thing I'm making is loud screaming and a kidney stone. So I'll take the time to break down the pieces individually. Most will have upgraded pieces that are in my shop, but I'm not going far from my chair today.
Let's begin...
Animefan Coldcast fiberglass bucket. This helmet is considered one of the best helmets available short of the Malone Fett helmet if you can find one and want to spend a cool $500 on a casting. I'm ok with this one for now. It will have a Level 3 shade smoked visor, JC27 light and servo kit installed, along with an eqdizzle dual fan kit. I rolled around the idea of using my real #15 files in the MQ1 board, but will likely use castings. The #15s are getting tough to replace. Brass borden as well.

RKD/ IOA ABS armor. Fettronics chest display, Aluminum armor studs, machined aluminum knee darts. Nothing fancy, just all good stuff.
(http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f14/MLS/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160103_164854346_zpshbtg1m6s.jpg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/MLS/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160103_164854346_zpshbtg1m6s.jpg.html)
RKD/ IOA v2 gauntlets. These are amazing pieces. All aluminum greeblies. Will also have accurate alco switches, aluminum flamethrower nozzles, and likely a hidden hinge closure system. And, of course, a fireball shooter :)

Either MOW or Woodman girth. The color is off in the pic, It's much more red.

Shin tools made from original parts. Nothing fancy.

MOW boots. The best boots, hands down. MachineCraft aluminum spikes.

Delta13 ammo belt. These are the best. Hands down.

Villianworks gloves. Again, the best around.

DVH v1 jetpack kit. Lighter than a MOW, more accurate than an NME. I'm looking forward to this one. Lighted beacon, mojo stabilizer, full metal Fett hardware pack on a bigdane harness. Authentic diver's buckle. Yum.

Woodman ROTJ "Found" half shelter cape. Woodman recently sold his 100th ROTJ cape. In that time he came across 3 capes with accurate "found" stitching pattern. This was one of those 3. Probably as close to a found part you can get on a cape.

The braids will be made here with real horse hair, the blaster will also come from my own Webley molds. Here are examples of each that I have made previously for others.

I have a few arkady pouches, flightsuits, and flaks, but I haven't decided if I'll use them yet, which is why I omitted them from the list.
Well... I'm sure I've forgotten something, but this list is a start.

Sweeet .... This Should be Fun to Watch ... 8)

Let's try this video link from earlier this summer. Prototype flamethrower box and initial test. Let me know if the link works or if it's broken.

-
Wow! You weren't joking about real fire :o
-
Unless policy has changed without me knowing it, anything spring-loaded and actual flames are prohibited on MMCC kits. Not that it wouldn't be completely awesome, but pretty sure we can't allow real flame projectors to be installed on our kits anymore than having functional firearms.
-
I'm aware of the policy. The flamethrower prototype is currently and will be removable. Just an added flare ;)
-
Awesome.
-
Dyed up the flightsuit and pouches a few days ago. Many flightsuit pics, outside, inside, daylight, with flash, w/o flash...
ROTJ has that not so awesome pain in the shebs pale grey/blue color. I like what I've got, and should appear less blue when the weathering process starts. Again... all the same flightsuit in different lighting.
(This pic turned out really blue)

Outstanding once again.
I presume you must know how to airbrush as aside from looking amazing, the altogether shot almost feels like it is lifted straight from an artist's rendering

Why thank you! Yes... My airbrush and I are a wonderful thing... :)
-
A terrific looking Fett, I'm definitely going to be watching this build closely as I'm also working on a ROTJ Boba. Just out of interest, how wide (at its widest point) is your back armour?
-
The back armor sizing depends on you. I fall right on the cusp of the Medium/ Large armor sizing from IOA. I am 5'11", 205 lbs. The medium backplate is 16" across the middle of the back. If I had to venture a guess, the large is 17". I have one here in my shop, and i'll try to remember to check later.
-
Incredible, I strive to meet these standards.

Superb paint work man, work of art. Mighty fine parts list you've got assembled, looking forward to seeing this continue!

Buh-bump.

It looks like you went with the hero jetpack paint up. Don't forget the burgandy ring that extends further up the jetpack base. Also the hero jetpack did not have red dots on the thrusters.

You saw it first Don ;) I still have some masking fluid on the missile collar, but was losing daylight. As far as the thrusters, Theres a reason those are red at this point.
I never said I was done either ;)
-
For you Don. ;) I'll explain the story of the collar and thrusters some time down the road.

No worries vod. The build kinda got put on hold for the Supertrooper build, so I'll pick it up again at some point. Until then, I guess I'll just be forced to wear this darn supertrooper... *Sigh* ;) "Don't look at me, I'm hideous!"
-
gday vod
on your jetpack paintjob, whatd you use to discolour the yellow, was that some paint or a wash applied
whats harder to do the all white super trooper or a fett, id think super trooper may have some parts that are harder to source as its not as common as a fett

The discoloration on the JP is airbrushed, but could be achieved by a controlled brownwash.
The Supertrooper was multiple times harder. The lack of info and good reference material is killer. 2 years of parts investigation went into tracking down the needed pieces. Many hundreds of dollars were spent on "research parts" that sit today, dusty, waiting in a box for a custom build to come along and claim them. The satisfaction of knowing it was the first complete and approved Supertrooper both here and in other clubs is a wonderful feeling. Knowing that I have the information, knowledge, and parts to help others down the road is also very rewarding.
However, completing this build is bittersweet for me. I feel compelled to both "be the Supertrooper" and raise the bar for the next kit, which would then move the Supertrooper to a mannequin. So, where do I go from here? There are a few Fett variants that have promise (e.g. Mythos Fett, Pre Production 1), but I still don't see it as raising the bar for myself. It's going to be difficult to decide what comes next.
-
thanks Dha, when i get to the discolourization part on the jp i think ill try browns and a bit of grey......prob more brown. when i think about it i can see brown being more natural for aging yellow, plus enviro factors
as for what to do next......a combo of ......mythos because of its awesomeness...................................... ...........................and holiday special, because its awesome as well. ???
1313 styled fett
i like the preproduction fetts, pre pro #1 is awesome, love the bucket. looks like really aged and faded paint. the colour combo is really cool

1313 isn't approvable. Nor would a combination of Fetts be. Both HS and Mythos have been done, but I don't know if I've ever seen a full PP1. So maybe that's something. Then again, maybe I double down on my merc. "Dha Bral 2.0! Now with twice the dirt and grime!"
-
are you after doing something that hasnt been done?, or taking something to another level ? are you wanting to do a boba? Any other character a possibility?
is it the researching parts that interests you. I thought you were planning a protector at one stage?
what about any of these
Jodo Kast
Tobi daala
fenn shyssa
jaster mereel
montress
open seasons jango....any
open seasons death watch
kal skirata
if you did "Dha v2" would you start from scratch?

Jodo interests me, but I already built pieces for a phenomenal jodo that is already approved. Jaster is a fun thought, but not a difficult enough build IMO, though it is still challenging of course. I'll likely do a Boba (ESB or ROTJ) next, or a Dha 2.0, which would be a completely 100% new build. I do want to do a protector. I've wanted to do one since I was a UM, and almost did initially, but knocked out my merc after I was initially approved with an ROTJ.
-
Geez, how many kits have you got? Or have made......you're a machine
How about Dha v2 striving for 2 brigades, is it possible for 3. Does adding mechanics or electronics to your kit appeal
Is Dha in a brigade, what's Dha backstory? Is he human? Born and bred mando? Ex imperial? Etc
What's Dhas speciality
A mando pilot
Scuba mando
-
i'd like to see you do something like a dha aqua mando i think you'd knock it out the park.
-
I have a clanmate doing an aqua concept. He'll nail it. He's using one of the last comMando pulls.
-
That bucket would be a great base for an aqua one
-
how about chopa' notimo is he approvable?

Is there much reference material for preprocess #1, that'll be my suggestion or a protector.....with a purple cape.....I don't know much of Dha's character

Lots of good ref for the PP1. Check TDH gallery. There's a whole section.
