Well the official hotel from last time the Rosen Center is already sold out, and according to expedia a lot of the hotels that are listed as close to the convention center are sold out too or nearly so. I went ahead and booked a reservation with a pay later and free cancellation option, but geeze that went FAST!

I wouldn't worry too much about that, to be honest. I'm no one special, nor do I have any inside information, but I bet that those rooms aren't actually sold out. They probably just listed them that way to keep everyone from overloading the system with reservations. That's what I'd do, anyways...

It's good that you have a back up plan though. 8)

EDIT: Also interested in room block info.

OnPeak (the vendor Celebration uses) is allotted a limited block of rooms, and it's those rooms that are sold out.

If you are a member of a chain's rewards program, you may be able to book a room at one of those same hotels for a comparable rate.  For instance, I'm a member of Hilton's rewards program, and I got a similar rate at the Hilton that the link through the Celebration webpage.

I also got a lower rate at the Days Inn as a federal government employee (yes, I'm that guy who sits on hotel reservations on rooms that have generous cancellation policies; I like options).

You might also call the hotel directly and make a reservation through the hotel's staff (who may also get you a better rate than the website).

Another nice thing about Orlando is that there are a gazillion rooms in the area.  So even if you end up having to drive a little ways from International Drive, US-192 or even the Disney property, you can probably get a room at a not-too inflated rate (Celebration is also during Spring Break season, so there will be a little bit of a bump in price).

We booked a room at the Clarion.  It's on the other side of the Redd Roof Inn, next to the Rosen.  Just a quick jaunt across the parking lot, the the Rosen has a sky bridge to the center, so we can get out of any weather pretty quick.

We booked from Wednesday to Monday, so we can arrive a day early, then leave a day later after getting a good nights sleep before the drive home.

Always choose the option that allows you to cancel a room, with no pre-payments to your hold card.  That way you can periodically check other hotels to see if you can find either a better rate, or a closer one.

Thanks for the tip. I'm now booked there too! Hoping for a mercs block somewhere, but at least I know we have a room now.

I have no issues walking 4 blocks to a convention, which is why I reserved Red Roof (my stay at the ATL RR was fine, so I knew the hotel had decent rooms). Did it at C7 and it worked perfectly and there were no crowded hallways, no parties keeping me up til 4 am...nice sound sleep every night...but, each their own

Just randomly discovered that rooms in the Rosen Plaza are available for booking on Hotels.com. I snagged one when I found it and figured I'd share the news in case any other Mercs wanted to move closer to the event.

It's also likely that I'll be looking for roommates closer to the event.

Did they just change the dates of Star Wars celebration to Easter 2017?

I swear I saw July 2017 when they first announced it. It not a big deal since I have off from college.

My question is how is the crowed during Easter? I never traveled during holidays by myself.

I be staying at the dolphin hotel.

The dates for Celebration Orlando haven't changed since they were announced.

Celebration Europe was this past July. Maybe that's where the confusion came from?

Easter is spring break territory, so Orlando and its attractions will probably be busy places.

Hey all, posting here first.  My GF and I will be in the Double Tree (Same Hotel as the Mercs Hotel block), checking in on the 11th and out on the 17th.  We had planned to be in the room with another couple but that fell through for various reasons.  We're looking for another couple to join us :)  Room would be $250 for the week per person if we can get 2 more people in with us (total of 4 people in the room).  We'd love them to be Mercs!

Hey guys. I bought my tickets for Celebration 8 a while back, while not an OM. I decided to go with an AirBNB room that's about 2 miles from Celebration 8. Since then, I am now OM. I'm kinda bummed that I won't be right there with other OMs the whole time, but at least I get to go as an OM!

Absolutely not. Disney park rules - no one over the age of 13 can enter the park in any kind of costume unless it is for a specific Disney/LFL event where we have been invited.

For the convention itself is the group doing anything?

For carrying stuff while in armor what is better, a backback and gun bag or a roller suit case?

For your first question the Mercs will be doing a photo shoot on Saturday sometime after 4pm.  You can check in at the mercs booth for any more details regarding that.
As for carrying stuff like I told you before a book bag or backpack maybe more comfortable to carry around with you than lugging a suitcase while you're in armor

I'm looking forward to Seeing all the Great kits and meeting all of the Fantastic members who make up this Outstanding Organization.  8) ;D

If you see me please Stop to say Hello , but If I don't recognize your name or remember your Straight away my apologies in advance.
It Would probably help to let me know how we know each other , ie . you bought a prop from me (The Ward Arms Family) or your in M.A. etc.

I want to meet as many of you as I can in this short Window of time we are granted ... So please make the time , I would be honored to make your acquaintance .

I will also have Signed trading cards for Everyone (I think I signed about 1200 for Celebration ? )
I plan to be around the Table or mingling that general area most of the time , then at the Bash is also a good time , one of the only times You'll see me without my Helmet on ... but Trust me you'll be able to spot me at the Bash ...   We leave Friday for Florida so if you want to schedule a time to meet up specifically you'll need to let me know before Friday .. the Week before Celebration is family Vacation at Disney so I won't be checking in much.

Take care Everyone and safe travels ... OYA MMCC ! ! !

Thanks,

I did some trials with my updated armor. It fits comfortably with backpack and shoulder gun bag.

The only thing with my backpack I can't wear my back plate. I may be dressing up for three or two days. It depends on how things goals what's going on.

Thursday I am seeing Boba fett and mark hamil.

Should I go in as my costume?

My titanfall helmet looks amazing after heavy modifications and painting. My mando helmet is fine. I Haven't made any new change.

How many people are actually going within the mercs?

TheBlueKnight,

Some things I've picked up over the years going to Cons of all shapes and sizes:

I suggest doing a few laps around the exhibitor hall before buying anything.

Lap 1, you scan and see what booths you want to focus on.

Lap 2, in depth look at the booths you noted before, picking out things you want to purchase.

Lap 3, go back and buy the march you wanted.

This way, you don't have to lug all your kit and newly purchased goodies as you meander through the hall.  I also suggest dropping stuff off at your room, car, or any storage area absolutely absolutely trust, so you can go enjoy panels and the sights without hauling everything with you.

Spare/external battery PLUS charger cables (fat load of good it does you in your hotel room, or worse, back home) are a godsend.  My phone's battery is pretty good, but after using it for several hours texting, making phone calls, using the internet, and looking up the floor map, you really can't expect it to last all day, and right as Mark Hamil is two feet from you in the hallway getting up to shenanigans, your phone will be nursing one percent.

Before you even leave home, find yourself a good gel insert for your boots/shoes.  Best ten bucks I've ever spent. When I went back to wearing my shoes without them recently, I noticed the difference, and that was just casual walking around, not nearly the mileage a Con always is.

Bring plenty of repair stuffs.  My kits broken straps and plates doing the most trivial kit-ups at home.  There will be plenty of folks that probably have some, but its always good to have some on-hand too.  This will be the first event I'll be kitted up for, and I'm planning on bringing my hot glue gun (to the hotel, not the Con floor), small sewing kit (I'm planning on checking with the Con rules to be sure its ok to bring a sewing needle in, can't assume things like that anymore), extra elastic straps, and extra velcro, not to mention small things of touch-up paint and a brush.

I don't claim to be the most experienced at this stuff, just thought I'd give you the stuff I've gotten over the years with my experience.
