My Mandalorian love continues and I've liked this character for a very long time and now I'm building it.
The whole comic as reference, but due to him having 2 load outs, I'm going to try and only pull from the latter part of the comic in Nal Hutta
The scan is flatter in colour , but your able to see the details pretty well still.
This is my Imgur album if you would like an even bigger sample ;D Jodo Kast Reference images album (http://imgur.com/a/bRVR4)

Thanks to Toolguy301's 3D template's I've been able to get allot of the parts from Shapeways and they look great.
Thought we'd start with the soft parts first and a few 3D printed bits then go from there, feedback appreciated
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Zip will be covered with a matching panel
Managed to get a pair of second hand pair of RotJ Boba gauntlets
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
3D printed parts
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
EDIT: Due to Photobucket fail I've gone through my wip restoring the finished pieces and references where possible, the transition (WIP) parts I felt were not required as they are superseded by the final piece.
Hope you still enjoy
-
I am a fan of Jodo Kast. Dude had some guts. Or he was just plain stupid. :P :P :P
Either way, Imma be watching this build with great interest! 8)
-
wow, those 3-d printed bits look fantastic.
-
Great job so far!!! I'll be watching. :D
-
Forgot to put up these pictures of the leather pouches I got from Delta 13 matches the flight suit so well.
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Had a delivery today with a few more parts from Shapeways.
Grenades
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Missile topper, stabilizer and beacon for Jetpack
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Decided to follow Toolguys example and have pipes joining up the equipment instead of strands that came from the girth belt.
I see it as the artists not being able to put different colours in before print and makes far more sense that they are pipes instead of strands.
Toolguys belt:

Reference pictures
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
So I got a good friend of mine to 3D print the part to hold the connecters and also got some flexible piping to run through everything
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
And finally....... Pistol
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
-
Very nice!
-
I shall be watching .. 8)
-
Those are some nice looking parts 8)
-
Far too few JK's around. Glad to see someone taking interest. Let me know if you have questions, I helped Toolguy with his build a while back.

And now putting them on
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
The all important jet pack ;D
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
And beginning of my helmet ;D
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
-
My metal ear caps have come through, put them on, much happier ;D
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
-
Very, very nice.
-
Sweet ! ! 8)
-
Those ear caps are things of beauty. As and when I come to do a third kit I shall be using the same supplier.
Having held these pieces in real life they are machined to perfection
-
OOoooohhhh.... metal earcaps (drool)
-
Few little steps last night, Knees, girth belt dye and back of lid buttons
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
-
I've always liked the buttons he has instead of the keyslots.........at least he didn't completely copy Fett's "homework" :P :P :P

I'm realizing there are allot of differences wit this build, just small and detailed.
It's definitely keeping me on my toes :P
Little more today, will need opinions of others for this if you'd be so kind
Cloak = Which looks better?
I've gone through allot of dyes to get to these choices, I'm not sure I can find the exact one unless someone knows the exact ones.
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Back plate: Does this look okay for the raised sections where the harness comes out ?
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************
Minor addition, Left gauntlet with leveled sections beside main missile for the secondary missiles to be mounted.
Greeblies (buttons , keypad and dental floss part still to add)

Its hard to tell what the true cape color is supposed to be based on the comic art, but I'd go with that first lighter colored one. Seems closer to the artwork, and I just like the color better lol.
-
i think the cape colours differ slightly from panel to panel in the comic so both work. personally i prefer the darker one... think it would be more in keeping with the darker flight suit. but still you're far more savvy at this than me. can't wait to see what you decide.
-
Thanks for the feedback guys, but I'm thinking the lighting has distorted the colours as its looking different to in real life, I'll keep working on it :P
Last little bit for the day, knees with darts
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************

New experience, playing with a 3D printer thanks to Rang Kemir

That would be quite cool to put a face to forum name :-)
Had a partial kit up to see if gauntlets were looking right as they were and only needed padding, I'm personally not seeing a problem as they are reasonably close already, but if anyone feels otherwise and willing to show me what I need to get them better I'm totally up for that as I want this kit looking as best as I can :P
*****************IMAGES REMOVED DUE TO BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS*****************

awesome.

I know i say it enough in person, but it all looks so cool 8)

Full mock up day with the parts I have

Dope man. I'd say your ready for some paint work. 8)

Not quite, but close ;)
Colours, the comic is all over the place, so going on that Jodo has been mistaken for Boba by even Dengar I'm basing the colours on ROTJ Boba.
Here is what I have come up with at this time, All are Humbrol colours as they are UK available paints and been used fro Boba's on TDH but will have rattle cans colour matched to them as I'm not very good with airbrush
Gauntlets will be the same as knees and shoulders in colour (forgot to generate image, sorry)
I'm confident that they will be suitable ;D
Additionally, The damage will not be the same I will be trying to pull as best I can from the reference material, this is just for colours
-
that looks truly amazing. :o
-
Seems I was a little hasty and I aired on the colour front as I was using another reference for a Rotj helmet and parts wouldn't translate over.
So I have redone the colour chart for the helmet without the confusing lines (EDIT: Earlier post has most current proposed colouring)
I also started looking at the jet pack in Nal Hutta (as that's when he uses the pack with alternate missile topper) and found it was just beige with red on the tank toppers.
seeing this as another artist error I would like to propose that I paint like ESB Boba's pack using beige (once I match it) in place of the green.
The same red used for key slot buttons on the helmet (Red 60) in place of all the yellow
Orange instead of red thats on ESB and keeping all the details on the tanks etc
Would this be acceptable?
-
not argueing with you mate but i always figured the jet pack was more of a very tarnished silver and it kept changing colour due to its reflectiveness?
-
Love Jodo Kast will have to follow and see the end results.

Welcome aboard, how you enjoy the show and I do him justice

And there I was thinking now its more a concrete grey :P
Anyhow, this is a poor mock up of what I'm looking to do with it, obviously there will be weathering etc, this is mainly for colours

-
Finally got helmet servo installed
And chest lights
All are still removable so I can paint
Productive day
-
this is looking really great.... love the attention to detail.
-
I'm jelly. Electronics always bring a kit to another level.
-
Nice work Colin. Keep it up. 👍👌
-
I have to agree , Very nice work .... 8) ;)
-
I'm doing a very similar install on my MP very soon.
Well done, Ashen.

Paint work looks great man!

Bit more painting for the weekend and a little bit of rebuilding of the cod

Don't forget your thong ;)
-
Don't forget your thong ;)
Don't worry, I will be thonged :P same time knees get elastic ;D
-
My Helmet is 98% there, maybe a little weathering tweak and the the RF lighting installed ;D
-
That is sick! I like it a lot 8)
-
Marvelous! ;D
-
So, turns out I made a little bit of an error - too many kill stripes and top of RF cap close to dome should match dome not rim, so here is the repainted dome and new kill stripes

Agreed! This is looking awesome. I actually used part of the Joda Kast right greeble to hide my voice amp by giving it 3 holed square faceplate. Maybe I should give mine some tiny antenna looking greebs as well.

Along the same idea I was having with speaker, that may be a later upgrade though ;D

Looking great! Very well researched. As you've pointed out throughout this thread, there are a lot of variations to the artwork that make this costume a headache. I know it's tough to reconcile these issues with a set of CRLs, but I don't see anything that gives me concerns about approvability of what you've done so far. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Ref, I'll keep on trucking then ;D
Holster nearly finished, just need belt loops installed and that I can only do once girth and belts done and cod repainted as the yellow underlay was a bit much and grey seemed more suitable.

Jodo Kast is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. This is a very nice build. I really, really like your jetpack. I may have overlooked while looking through these past 5 pages, but how did you make the jetpack rocket?

That and many other parts are designed by the talented Toolguy 301: Toolguy301's Shapeways shop (https://www.shapeways.com/shops/CSBProps)
-
So I've been remiss on updating this wip and I'm sorry, been kinda focused on getting my first kit revamped
But I'm back on Jodo with a bit of an update but unfortunately a few steps back, I recently unpacked my kit to find the paint has cracked across the chest plates, I've surmised that its due to storage and the temperature of where I kept it, so looking like I will need to repaint them all.
Additionally will be doing the back plate as it doesn't sit right as well as also paint issues.
Gauntlets were fine if not a little bulky, but a friend of mine has offered to replace them with lighter 3D printed ones, so how could I refuse ;D
Here is what we have done so far:
Left Gauntlet minus missiles that will be transferred from old gauntlet
Right gauntlet
Source material for the change to right gauntlet
(https://i.imgur.com/WFJbBGR.jpg)
As well as the ones for the change of connectors
(https://i.imgur.com/bvI1YtY.jpg)
And the connectors with piping
(https://i.imgur.com/1p1JEnc.jpg)
I'm planning on using that locate on the nodes protruding from the back of gauntlets, the pipes are silicone lighter and more flexible than braided so shouldn't hinder movement.
Hope everything looks satisfactory and hope to bring progress in next post.
-
Without any objections I got them printed and taped together
Now back to sanding, filling, repeat :P
-
Man, 3-D printers really are a game changer. Looking awesome
-
And once again the standards are raised ... very tasty gauntlets
-
So, turns out when you add a harness into the equation it really throws out your plates and reshaping seriously blisters the paintwork, so..... scrap collar and back plate, remake and strip back paint off remaining chest plates, this kit seems to want to test me *sigh*
Without Jet Pack

Harness blocks to cover holes still need to be made and the strapping was adjusted while wearing it and caused gathering around the holes.
I also seem to have developed a lean to the left somehow
-
Looking good, Ashen.
I'd like to see that jetpack sit a little higher on you. It's sitting super low at the moment.
-

The scaling and position is unfortunately due to my longer than normal body, its fixed at where it is now, I don't have an option to change anything :(
From the pictures I had to work from the jet pack sits approximately level with base of back plate
(https://i.imgur.com/o9KXitG.png)(https://i.imgur.com/UasM4Kt.jpg)
I have done so and only now found that I'm approximately 1/4 longer in torso than most who have worn this kind of JP :'(
-
Been a while with this RF but we think we got it licked, the original wireless light and servo parts were too bulky and couldn't fit head in with all the tech, so all that had to go and Hik'aari build a more streamlined version ;D
Here it is before we added the controller into the gauntlet music is there to drown out background noise :
And here it is after, leaning back to balance lid:
-
Awesome!!!
-
Nice work vod 👍🏻
-
Been a long time and this is the issue I couldn't get over, turns out press studs and magnets were the key.:D
Hopefully from now onward I'm hoping to have some progress now.

Glad to see this WIP up and kicking!
Thanks, I've been trying to add more but the images are refusing to upload, took your advice on JP positioning and also repainted it.
Also repainting and possibly replacing the helmet as the paint will no longer be used and I wanted a more manufactured look helmet.
-
Sorry for the multiple posts, I have allot to post and the forum isn't liking it as its from more than one photo sharing site

Back at it! Wonderful to see for sure.
I think the height of where your jetpack currently sits looks good. Much improved from where it sat initially. I think any higher might look odd.
Also, great work with the paint and weathering.
