Looks amazing! How do you plan on creating the design on the helmet tho? :o

with more masking tape than a boxing factory and a lot of time and patience. also maybe some decals.... okay maybe a lot of decals...

I Did some concept for the chest armor, might redo it as the amount of time it would take to do this design, though cool, would be like... most of summer...
i will show images of the weapons i plan on using for my mando once i get the concept art and details as to what he will have disclosed...

so.. yeah. without further delay... here is the concept art for the armor. (may be subject to change)

This is stunning!  :o
If you continue like this you kit will be awesome!  :boba: But it will be a pain for masking the design on the plates

i can spray the tan design on then use a cardboard cutout to get the blue on.  :)

FINISHED!!!!

I was able to finish the design earlier in the week but due to several things happening in my life i was unable to post it until now. so... here is the final product! let me know what you think and i guess right now i should give some backstory to the coloring and design. the coloring for the armor (tan, blue, black) is inspired from the hannibal vehicles in Halo 5 gaurdians. the way the design looks takes inspiration from a sort of techno design i see on some tv shows. the jaig eyes are there for fun!

so without further delay.. here is the Final armor design!!

Looks Amazing! ;) What color jumpsuit are you looking into? I suggest either tan, black, or blue.  Possibly, even white.

Post by: Zexal Renow on Dec 03, 2018, 09:49 PM
hmm... hadn't thought of that... i guess i would use a white one to balance out the colors because there is more tan and black than blue and white. though the closest thing i can get to jumpsuit in my local area cheap would be a mechanics coveralls that usually only come in black and dark blue. if i find one on amazon ill see though, or if you know any good sellers or places to buy jumpsuits, let me know!

I know that Wal-Mart carries mechanic suits, but they usually are darker colors like you mentioned. You might can try to find them either at a local hunting goods store or maybe even a Airsoft/ bbs store. I actually found my black Elbeco pants at a thirft store. I believe your best option is to buy it online. Especially, for the color you want.

I love this design!  :o It brings Egyptian pharaohs to mind. I'll definitely be watching this as it comes together.

Thanks for the feedback! I will be looking online for the stuff i will be wearing under my armour as it will be in a much wider range. Yes the marking do give a very Egyptian vibe to them dont they? As of current i have no idea what a scrub is and will be looking into that but if they come in every colour then i may just have to buy some!

thanks for the support and help vod! i removed my last post as i saw it was quite useless and had content i hadn't yet fully decided on keeping.

right now i am trying to figure out what would be the best hardening option for my armor as i am going to cut the armor onto cardboard first then use some method to give it durability and make it easy to work with. i have considered using 2 part epoxy resign or something like that. (if its not called epoxy resign then feel free to correct me) I have also thought of using aluminum sheets except i have no way to cut them cleanly and safely and i dont want to use a dremel as i would hate to destroy my bits. i cant think of any other method that a 15 year old could do with a very low budget. please give me ideas and help me out with this!

I don't know about cardboard armor. It might work if you fiberglass it on both sides, just make sure that it's bent in the right places and actually fits you.

Most people on here use sintra, which you can get at your local sign store or Amazon. It bends under heat, and it really only takes a heat gun. The only problem is that it can be...rather expensive.

Whatever you do, this looks really cool, and I wish you luck!

ah i see, well i plan on going to my local hardware store soon to see if they have anything of that sort. thanks for the response though! i am aware sintra can be expensive but on the websites i have visited sintra is about 40$ for 2 sheets shipping to Canada. ill look into either buying online or in person but we will have to wait and see.

Sinta is gonna be the same price or cheaper by the time you fiberglass cardboard, and will be way less work to get to a finished product. Sign shops should have it. Also search, you may have a plastics supplier locally. I can get a 4x8 foot sheet of 3mm for 30 dollars, and 6mm for 60.
Title: Re: Mandalorian Armor concept... yea...
Post by: Zexal Renow on Dec 10, 2018, 09:44 PM
for a board that size i expected it to be a bit more expensive considering its plastic you can heat and bend with little to no effort depending on how hot it is

Post by: Sep Ho'ban on Dec 10, 2018, 10:50 PM
I've bought dozens of sheets (I bring them to APs for people who live further away) at that price.   Sintra IS surprisingly in expensive -- but it's just low density PVC, and pvc isn't all that spendy.
Title: Re: Mandalorian Armor concept... yea...
Post by: Zexal Renow on Dec 13, 2018, 10:20 PM
so i checked my local home depot and they didn't have any sintra or any thermoplastics at all. the nearest sign shop to me is about an hour drive that i don't really want to uber back and forth from. if you have any links to sintra that's cheap but is from a source you trust, let me know!

according to me friends and family from school and what not i shall be getting the spray paints i asked for in the colors i wanted. i will edit this post once i can get the images of the spray paint colors on my pc.

I've never purchased it online before.  Have you checked in with your clan to see where they typically purchase it?
Title: Re: Mandalorian Armor concept... yea...
Post by: Ko'rizna Falco on Dec 14, 2018, 02:59 PM
There are 24' x 48' sheets on Amazon for $20, which is enough for a kit I believe, search "expanded PVC foam." Now I don't know the quality but at $20 your not losing a whole lot of money if it doesn't work.

Ill check with my clan to see if they have have any suggestions, thanks though. I will look on amazon and my next post should be the result of my searching.

Anyways here are the spray paint i will be using for my armor.

i was able to ask my clan about a sintra shop in my local area and they pointed me to one that's actually only a 16 minute drive from my house so.. will be doing that.

Very interesting paint concept. I will be interested to see how itís executed. Itís in my opinion on the busy side but it will definitely be a focal point of your kit. I think a light brown or Khaki or even a white jump suit will work well and be easy to weather as well. Canít wait see what you do.

And be careful when using two different brands of paint. Sometimes they react with each other, causing... weirdness.  Bubbles, orange peel, crackling...  Test them out on some scrap first, and follow the directions on the cans.

I HAVE A QUESTION!!!

on my armor i plan on adding several small things to it like i plan to add some chest diamond trophies as well as some other things my mando could use. One of those things happens to be a lightsaber. This lightsaber would be a working one not a trophy, it would also have a great amount of symbols and weathering on it sorta like its been passed down through the years. I was wondering what the current opinion of having lightsabers as weapons for mandalorians is? Can i have them? Are they banned? Do i need to be in a certain brigade to have one? the story behind the lightsaber i would use is basically it is the lightsaber of like my characters great(x30) grandfather or something like that. this grandfather killed a sith and took the lightsaber and then had a jedi purge the dark side from it making it a white lightsaber. then it just got passed down through the years. if someone could tell me if this is allowed or not that would be great!
Title: Re: Mandalorian Armor concept... yea...
Post by: Avior Braisa on Dec 22, 2018, 11:53 PM
As far as I am aware, the only working lightsaber a mando could use would be the dark saber, and that's just for canon characters who have used it. You can have saber trophies, but they have to be damaged beyond use.

Post by: jett drexel on Dec 22, 2018, 11:55 PM
functional light sabers are a strict c.r.l. no no. regardless of backstory.
Title: Re: Mandalorian Armor concept... yea...
Post by: Straka Zulu on Dec 23, 2018, 02:40 AM
Unfortunately, lightsabers are not allowed.   Doesn't mean you can't have one for when you're having fun, but at a proper troop... Leave it at home.  I have two, myself, but I really only have used them for either a parade or to take my son out trick or treat-ing.

Post by: Zexal Renow on Dec 23, 2018, 11:51 PM
ah i see. still i would love to have a saber so i will change the backstory and just make it a trophy. currently im working on getting a mechanics coveralls so i can lay the templates on a more accurate piece of clothing for my costume and then i can go buy the sintra and begin the construction of my armor. also i am very thankfull for the comments and reply's as i am very new to costuming and this will be my first ever build. my profile says ive been building this since 2016 because thats when i found the MMCC and i fell in love because i love the mandalorians and jango fett was my favorite. so thanks for the help and i will look into, possibly, getting another saberforge lightsaber for me to use as a trophy.

EDIT!

i made some changes to the original helmet design and wanted to know your opinions on it.

Original:

New Version

i was also able to find a gray premier paint but was unable to find a tan so i will buy the Rust-Oleum tan and test to see if it acts weird with the premier paint.

UPDATE!
I have my helmet purchased and on the way! currently i am looking into the plastic for my armor and i am also working on applying for a job so i can actually pay to get this suit done...

anyways; i have recently been thinking about stuff i could have different on my armor and i was wonder if its common to have different designed armor parts on my kit? like say my kits Red and Grey and i have a Blue and Green gauntlet from another mando my character killed or was friends with? i'm asking because i wanted to put a shoulder piece with a different design on my armor and in staid of the Blue, Tan and Grey it work be Red, Black and Grey. i know boba fetts armor is pretty much just a mix of stuff he got from other mandos but im also not sure if there are any CRLs about color schemes and i dont want to make something i will regret. also does anyone know of any creatures from star wars i could make some sort of trophy out of to put on my belt or even on my helmet?

thanks and i will have another update ASAP!

Having asymmetrical shoulders, gauntlets, knees, shins,  is no problem.

Having different colored bits of gear on your kit is totally approvable -- weathering still needs to be consistent.  The only real rules about color schemes are -- don't use earthy patterns, or off the shelf camo patterns, and don't make it look like your sponsored by a specific company or sports team.

As far as creature trophies, stay away from humanoid body parts and bones to avoid bumping up against the family friendly/gore clause (Mouse is watching). But there are people with wookie fur braids (Boba even), animal claws, etc.

What helmet did you order?

Lightsabers are like others said a no no as Per the CRLs. But the are no allowed to be working, it could only be on your kit as a none-working trophy. I have one on my kit that is just that and I was approved through the app process with it as is on my kit. It is never taken off or played with during a troop though. Its merely to let other scum Jedi know I'm not to be messed with!  :P

as far as the lightsaber goes i may not even add it because it isnt really practical to have if its just their to sit on my belt and scare people.

in other news i still dont have a job so it may take me a bit to get the parts for my armor

Best advice I was given early on in my own build is to treat your kit like a marathon.  A steady pace will win out in the end.  So, don't worry about your build if you need to focus elsewhere, we'll be there when you're ready to get this going.

Hello,
Cool concepts on your design.  You might consider that the suit color will greatly effect how the armor stands out or blends in.  In reading your post I did not see much in the way of  soft parts planning.   I would just suggest you hang that cool art on an equally cool canvas.  Good belts and girths, good boots and suit.  You seem so good at the computer model, maybe you could add some base color behind them to give you an idea of what suit color works best for the idea in your head.  Just a thought.  Interested to watch it come together.  Good Luck.  :like:

Have you decided on a flight suit color yet? I might consider a darker color, since you have a lot of light-colored patterning on your armor. A darker color would help the patterns pop and keep the focus on your armor. If you want to go with a tan/khaki, consider choosing a nice neutral color for a similar reason. :cookie:

I love the concept, also! Those colors are really lovely together. I think this kit's really going to stand out when it comes together, can't wait to see it completed!  :D

Did a quick re-read of this, and noticed that no one answered your question about scrubs.

Scrubs are the clothes most medical professionals wear.  They can be altered for us to use as flightsuits.

sorry for the long wait and the lack of me posting stuff... high school got in the way of costuming. now that i got a long weekend though i thought i would take the time to ask you people about my helmet!

so for my helmet i have this crease time along the middle of the helmet (i assume from the casting process) i was wondering if i can use a dremel to sand this or if i should use some sand paper? also is there anything i should know before i cut out the visor? i was gonna leave a bit of the visor uncut for the painting process just incase it get too structurally unsafe but i would like to get some feedback before i go and start Chopping away at this helmet.

if you can give me any advice i would love to hear it!

thank!

You could use the Dremel,  just be careful not to stay too long in one spot.  Personally, I would do it by hand.

As for leaving a section of the visor intact while you paint, that isn't a bad idea.  Depending on where you cut, you could leave it as a support even after you install the visor.  I wish I had done that with my Nite Owl.

QUICK UPDATE!

I was able to cut the visor out and will be posting images of the cleaned up helmet soon, sorry for not posting i got caught up in some other stuff and had no time to update this thread. in other news i'm working on cutting my armor out of cardboard so i can get an idea of how it will look. i also wanted to update the helmet design for the new one which doesn't include the little part in the visor that juts down. i had to remove it because it had cracked and i couldn't fix it. so yeah you will be seeing about 2 or 3 new images as soon as i update this post.

I also wanted an opinion on my armor having a assortment of pistols and light blasters and no real rifle/long range blaster. my mando would be more melee or close quarters combat themed. let me know what you think

Keep in mind that if you find colors a little lighter than you want, you can always darkwash your bucket after you paint it and get it closer to the color you want, and weather it at the same time!  :jango:
