Nicely done!  Not very often do people do uni-colored mandos...

My one suggestion would be to move the girth belt/kama/codpiece up to the edge of you flack vest.

I really like the weathering. It looks awesomely filthy.

Acutally, his shoes look very "clone-like".  I didn't notice any issues with them.  While combat boots are suggested, they aren't the ONLY type of footwear that work.  His laces are covered and there are no visible logos at all.  Plus they seem very futuristic.

I got a new pair of boots today, and i now have the addition of 4 thermal detonators and two combat knives. sadly, i wont have my suit for another week. Thanks for the advice, and i will raise my belt line, slap on the thermals, put on my new boots and take some pics... in two weeks at Mid-Ohio-Con

here are the new boots, i am so excited to see how they look

Pull the flight suit out over the boots and put the armor you had on your shoes and i think it would look awesome. Thats just my advice though

I think they look good.  Dirty them up a bit perhaps? XD
Title: Re: Bandolier's Finished armor.
Post by: Bandolier on Sep 28, 2009, 10:26 PM
they are old boots, so when you see them in person, you can tell they have some wear and tear. as far as putting armor on the boots, I thought about it, but I am a recon mando, so i figure the lighter, the better. my pant legs are too narrow to fit over the boots. i want people to see those boots and go  :o like i did at the thrift store.  ;D

I agree with Tag.. Leave 'em like that... Pulling the suit over the boots would just look wierd, to me... Spats, maybe.. But nothing else.. I like those boots a lot more on you than I did in just the free-stand pic!

As cool as the boots are I have to ask; are you going to weather them.  They look so shinny that you can't help but think they are brand new.  Course you could leave them as brand new and make up a back story about a shoeless man now walking around Tantooine or some other desert local.   Just an opinon...take it with a grain of salt

I take all your guy's opinions and suggestions as serious suggestions on helping me improve my suit, so thank you for your imput. well in pictures, yeah, they do look pretty new, but in person, i think you can tell they are older an worn. they are old boots and i wear them even when I'm not in costume because, well, I just like them ;D also, they may look a little clean, but i think they match those leather straps i have on my biceps, it sort of carries the leather look throughout the costume.

OK, so i worked on a second set of armor about a month ago and never uploaded pics, Im just going to do a few progress photos on here. I know these pictures are on my rust armor tutorial, but from here on out, it will be just progress photos.  It probably wont be done for a few months, but what ever  :P

I drew up a quick concept  pick for what I am going to be makin'

here is most of the finished armor. I used the same shoulder insignia as my Green set and i wrote 'Vode an' (meaning 'Brothers all' in mandalorian) on the left chest plate in red paint. most of the rust is in the same places on both sets.

My gun belt>
(http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss2/darthwish1138/Mando%20Armor%20set%202/DSCF0800.jpg)

The bucket>>> 2 piece Rubies Jango bucket. has 4 red lights over the left eye, a spot light on the side, and some green and blue lights in the right ear piece. I saved the old visor and just put some car window tint over it.

before I taped off all the extra lights, I took this picture, I call it DISCO MANDO
(http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss2/darthwish1138/Mando%20Armor%20set%202/DSCF0814.jpg)

Here is the finished back plate, the thing on the armor was the turret for a toy Abrams Tank

Wow I just love your armor. It keeps getting better and better. I especially love the boots and spurs. I am liking the second set. It looks like a great concept. Question- What is the gun belt for your new set of armor made out of? Is is vinyl or pleather or something like that? It looks kinda like leather, but not. It looks like it might be easier to work with too. Love your stuff!!

Thanks A'den.

Well, i have run into a little snag with my mid section, not sure if is should do a cloth girth belt, or what. my gunbelt is too small by itself. and here is a picture.

I will add some thermals to it or some fake ammunition cartridges. but it needs something more in that area, it looks bare. more pics to come!
Im out at the university, and classes are starting up tomorrow so progress will be slow for a while.   -thanks for all the motivation you guys are giving me!

-Happy hunting!

I would use a piece of contrasting fabric, maybe dark grey or brown, and make a cloth belt (similar to a Jedi "obi").

I think you need to beware of Flying Leonardo's! You're about to get PWND!

LOL, seriously, it looks great. I'm not a big fan in general of black and white Mando's because most are quite bland. However, with the nice contrast of brown belts, green flightsuit etc., it really sets it off better than if you;d have used black soft parts. Really nice work!

As a side note, all those girls that post self mirror pix on social networking sites could learn a lesson in cleaning up their rooms and wiping down their mirrors before taking their pix.

I've gotta second A'den on this one, and not just about the flying Ninja Turtle :P. I was going to say that I don't really like the white plates on the white vest, but in the last couple pics, with the green and brown other soft parts and weathering, it looks great.

And as dead sexy as those boots are, I definitely think they look better with the shin plates; on your previous kit they looked wicked bare, but now, they're perfect. I also approve of the spurs, because spurs are awesome.

You make top-notch kits. :D I think the fact that you kind of have Boba's frame and posing style helps as well, the armor just looks right.

DUDE i know, i see those pics all the time, so i know what im doing when i take pictures in the mirror :P

Love the armor, vod. Quick question: How did you attach the lights to the outside of your helmet? I've got a Rubies Jango one piece I'm modifying, and adding a spot light is one of the things on my "to do"' list for it. I just had no idea how to go about doing it.

Well the light on (my) left is actually for a head lamp strap, something you can pick up for 6 or 7 bucks at the store where all the flashlights are. I literally took off the ear-piece as it is called, glued the light on, then put the ear-piece back on top, cutting out a part for the lamp to go through. hope that helps. Other people use screws and metal brackets that are C shaped and screw at the ends of the C, holding the flashlight in place; not sure what they are called though.

Army belt works perfectly, not sure which kit I like best!

Only suggestions would be some shoe polish, few washes, and a soak in tea water to dull the pouch/belt.. Very vibrant and new looking. May also want to look into knees for this set at some point, but I Love how it's came together!
