Title: Original Armorer WIP (Photo heavy)
Post by: theValkyrie on Feb 12, 2020, 09:36 PM
Started my second kit a few weeks ago. Her colors are going to be primarily tans, browns, and golds. She's based loosely on the Armorer from the Mandalorian show but is a bit more rustic. I've got the majority of my legacy chest plates banged out and will soon be ready for bondo... they don't look like much now but I have faith with a lot of sanding and hope (lots of hope) I have faith she's gonna look great!

this is my rough sketch. My soft parts are going to probably be black, with the kama being made of dyed Monkscloth, and the loincloth will be made of leather. LIke a leather apron for welding.

here are the WIP pics I have so far :)

fiberglassed the darts to give them some structural stability.

Also I'm quite happy with how the gloves turned out-- dyed them from the horrible yellow to a much more swarzy brown!

I will be covering the labels with strapping or armor later on!

Slow progress is still progress! Tonight we sanded down the darts to make the breastplate smoother. Tomorrow we'll add the bondo to fill the cracks!

I was a busy bee today!

Spent some time sanding/wet sanding today! She's smooth as BUTTA!

Also put it on for a test fit!

My bottom lame comes just to my belly button!

I also dyed my half-chaps and the fabric for my kama and cape.

These leahter half chaps will have armor riveted to them.

Also I dyed 5 yards of Monks Cloth (a heavy duty fabric used to make Jawas for the 501st).

This fabric will make up my kama, cape, and hood.

I also worked on my half bracers which will be added to my long gloves.

Well folks... I've been doing a lot of work and not doing a very good job of keeping this WIP updated (sorry)

I'm going to do a pretty substantial photo dump so i apologize for that in advance:

First of all I finished my soft-parts

Flak vest is made of a durable dyed canvas material.

My hooded cape and Kama are made from Monkscloth (the same fabric as jawa robes)
You can see how I've weathered them to give them a sandy/dusty look

the kama is lined with canvas for stability and my loincloth is made from leather.

I have been debating on adding plates to this loincloth-- I think currently it looks a little bland.

I also made my very own girth belt! I've never constructed anything like this before so it was a bit of a challenge. I'm very happy with how it turned out :)

(this is the belt pre-dye when I tried it on with my secondary belt--

I finished sanding the plates smooth-- added the lames (they come just to my belly button)

and weathered my plates. Since she spends a lot of time on the desert planet Tattooine (hence the twin suns) she has a lot more light weathering than I usually do.

(I added sand to the clear coat to give it a topographical look -- something I picked up from my brigade app last year)

I am going for a very asymmetrical look so I've painted my plates to have very little symmetry.

I will be posting more photos this evening after I'm done weathering the rest of the plates.

Amazing progress so far!!! I love the twin sun feel in the chest armor  :<3: I especially love those gloves that you dyed, it looks so good! The kama and loincloth also look great. I canít wait to see more and see it all come together  :)

So I mounted my straps and tried everything on.

While I like my strap setup I realized, after trying what I had on, that I don't like my cape/hood combo. :(
So I've abandoned the cape/hood and gone for a backplate instead.
However, I am quite pleased with how the chest plates, knees, and shins look with my girth belt/belt/and kama/loincloth.

I see now with everything on that i need to do some darting and tailoring to my flak vest-- but nothing major just to tidy things up.
The 5 beaded tassels on my loincloth are for the 5 clans of House Buurenaar Verda (Aiwha Riders, Batuu, Drexel, Protectors of Lothal, and Scarif).
I'm trying to weave some symbolism into my kit and I'm having fun whilst doing it :)

I'll update soon once I make the back plate :)

Then it's on to weapons!

(I will be purchasing the Night Owl helmet from Kamino Outpost once it's ready :) )
