Hi everyone. After thinking about it for a long time, I have now decided to go for the armorer ;D. I have started by getting a pattern of the coverall and bought dark grey cotton fabric. I have also bought a sheepskin that I will dye. I hope I will get feedback during the process.

Now I think I´m getting close to the finnishline with the flight suit :D
Today I made the collar on the fligt suit with an open V neck in the front. I still have to weather the fligt suit.

I love the Armorer too
If you want to share your patterns tell me

Oh thank you :D. I used the pattern showed for the basic flightsuit, the details are measured after visuall references and not by a specific pattern.

Some updates about my WIP.
My large forging hammer got painted in silver and the armored plate covering for the toe got painted dark brown.
I have done one of the dark brown suede-like gloves that ends in a burgundy cuff near the elbow. Still have to do some light weathering.
It´s hard to catch the right color of the items with the camera.

Thank you so much, happy to hear :porg2:
Now it´s time to start with the helmet :'(. Since we only have a small 3D printer that only can make 15x15 cm (centrimeter) pieces, I have to make the helmet of 11 pieces. I´m so excited. Wish me luck!

I´m using 2k epoxy, superglue. But I´m thinking about reinforce the helemt inside somehow
Geila Alo

Ok, thanks ;D.

(just a suggestion)
fiber glassing the inside will help hold it together and give it some added strength.

Thank´s for the feedback :D
Just love this burgundy color. There aren´t many referencephotos of the backarmor, so I wonder if I should weather it or not...
-
I would apply the same weathering to the back armor, you apply to the chest to keep everything consistent.
-
Ok, thanks for the feedback :D
-
Finally, after a lot of hours :-X. Now it just need some weathering
(https://i.imgur.com/XhF7eEr.jpg)
-
I'm not sure about the colour you chose for your Chest piece. When you look at the reference pictures it looks more metall/copper to me. Maybe you could mist some copper on top of your red.
-
Thanks for the feedback! I tried to take a better photo. I just painted it as the CRL says "Chest plate is painted burgundy or dark red". But I can consider using some coppar when I weather it?
-
I had a discussion with some App Team members a few weeks ago. Regarding the new photo (the one on the left) that was released in december, where you can see the copper better. From what I was told the CRLs may change to reflect the new reference.
I think it would be great if you added some copper on your Chest as it would add some depth to your armor.
-
Thank you for the information :D. Yes there are a difference between the right and left photo.
-
The difference in color comes down to the lighting. Copper can appear more red, more orange, or more brown depending upon the amount and type of lighting.
-
Now I have been trying two different technique to get the right coloreffect on the backarmor and chestarmor.
1. (the upper on the photo) misting kopparspray directly on the burgundy (on a scrappart)
2. (the lower on the photo) covering the burgundy total in kopparspray and then misting burgundy
The photo is taken in the sunshine so you can see the difference in the shine.
Ruus´alor J´Khara thought the V2 is the best match for the character.
Now I have painted the backarmor as the technique version 2.
First painted in burgundy (the photo is a little bright)
And then I covered it totally in copper
(https://i.imgur.com/k9GMQFn.jpg)
And then misted it with just one layer of burgundy (at this point). The coloreffect is very cool :-X. The armor get different color/shine depending on the light. I can see that the burgundy showes more in darker light and the copper shows more in brighter light.
Here is the same backarmor in different lights
(https://i.imgur.com/aBrsLBG.jpg)
I also took a picture of the backarmor beside the chestarmor thats for just now only are painted in burgundy with a overlay in copper
(https://i.imgur.com/LYiAh90.jpg)
-
Great work, the effect looks awesome!! :porg2:
-
Thanks ;D

Now I have misted the chestplate with one layer burgundy. Took a photo of it in two different lights :-X
(https://i.imgur.com/6GlCdld.jpg)
I also have been starting with the gaters. Made a pattern for the lower part first.

Thanks for the feeback :D
Today I have been working with the pleated leather bands. From the pictures I measured that the width of them should be about 22-23 percent of the gaiters upper part (legpart). I close them with hidden velcro.

In the process with building an armor, there are always coming "down periods" when you need encouragement to go forward. Yesterday I went in one of those period, feeling that I have so much left to do. My dear partner reminded me of how much I have been doing and suggested that I should put everything on me despite it´s not clear. I have not done that earlier. My facial expressions just show how justified I was

I have been starting to find a fur cape. I guess The Armorers fur is lighter in brighter light.
What do you think, could this one be approvable?
-
I think the cape looks great :like: you should not have any problems getting it approved. Don't loose hope you have been working so ! ! You should definitely be very proud of yourself ;)
-
Thank you very much for your kind words, they meens alot to me!
-
Your welcome! ;D it has been wonderful to be able to watch your kit being built. I know it's going to look amazing when it's done!!! :porg2:
-
Great progress! :like:
-
Thanks :D
Now I think it's time to finish the backside of the apron. To get the right measurment I went out from these reference pictures.
As far as i can see, the widht of the "Y" is approximately 66 percent of the widht of one layer on the skirt.
I also figured out that the angle starts in the existing seam between first and second layer and reaches to half of the second layer.
-
Oh nooo, now I noticed that my apron is to long....well I´m happy that I haven´t put on the "Y"....Now I just have to make it shorter
(https://i.imgur.com/Yhi4yUJ.jpg)
-
If I have measured right from the referencepicture I have to make my apron 13 centimeter shorter :-X
(https://i.imgur.com/oYv3xX0.png)
-
Hi all,
I have during the last few days been thinking about something that bothers me and i need guidance.
I discovered that my apron is way to long in comparison to the photoreferences of The Armorer – see photo below.
After checking the CRL I noticed that the belt has given measurements (my belt is made by these measurements). The CRL states that the Apron ” Must consist of 8 pleats/layers from the waist to just above the knees.” and that is has to match visual references as everything else. The CRL does not give any additional measurements for the Apron.
This gives the effect that since I have made the belt according to the given measurements, and if I should follow the visual references, the effect is that the apron will end a lot lower on me than on the reference photos. If i should make the apron lenghtwise to match the reference photos it will give the effect that my belt would look really wide proportionwise to the apron.
In order to match the visual references I can only see two alternatives: Should I keep the apron longer to match the proportions to the belt ( that is made to specific measurements) or should I narrow the belt to match the apron (that i also have to narrow down) - what should i do?
Please help.
-
I would ask the App team directly via the App Team Q&A as this is a very specific question for the people working on the Canon CRLs.
-
Ok, Thanks for the information
-
I agree. I will add, however, that the measurements given for the belt presume a 5’7” or so tall woman with an athletic build. For someone of smaller stature, that belt looks too wide. I wold narrow it significantly. It should be proportionate to your height and build, not Emily Swallow’s.
-
I put in the answer here from the Ruus'sol team so all can learn from it
1. The number of pleats is more important than the length. Different lengths of skirt have been approved before.
2. The measurements of the belt in the CRL are more of a guide and it is best practice to start from the measurements given and adjust them to fit you.
The recommendations are actually to make small tweaks to the belt so that it fits you better and doesn't ride so high. From there you can take the uppermost pleat of the apron, and make it a little bit shorter to fit both you and the adjusted belt better.
-
I am glad you got it sorted out. And that you don't have to make a whole new skirt. ;D
-
Now I have been working with the apron, belt, gaiters and the toearmor :-X
I have adjusted the proportion and sewn together the apron and the belt again (better proportion now), and aslo made the two "Y". Since the gaiters had to get darker, I have dyed them. I thought the toearmor were to shiny so I scrubbed them.

Hi
I have started the process with The Armorers helmet and want to make sure I follow the "must match visual references". Did they use two different helmets? I can see difference between theese two referencepictures. Which one should I follow?
-
Su'cuy, not sure which one you should use. you could try to make a mix of both? I think you would probably be ok if you did either one. You could also contact the app team if your not sure. Not super surprised that they would use two helmets for the armorer. They did the same thing with din djarin.
-
I think it’s just a difference in how far her head is tilted forward combined with camera angle. In the first photo, her head is tilted almost all the way so that her chin rests on her chest. The camera is also higher up and straight on. In the second. Her head is not tilted as much, only about halfway, and the camera is shooting slightly up from a lower angle, so that the fur gets in the way. That’s my take on it.
-
I agree with Tramp, the helmet's specific features are identical but appear warped in the first due to camera angle. If this shot was toward the edge of the screen, there'll be some distortion; compounded with her head being angled down, that results in the helmet appearing elongated.
-
Is it just me or does the texture of the helmet look different? In the first image you can really see the hammered finish but the second one looks noticeably smoother.

It’s just you. :P

After a summer pause, it´s time to start with The armorer again :D. I put a rubber band in the end of the legs of the overalls and fixed the toe plates with velcro and rubber bands. Hopefully they will stay put now.

Now I been starting with the fur. I took a sheepskin with curl and cut out a shape so its covering the neck and shoulders to the waist. It is wider at the top than the back and tapers down the back. I have colored the back brown as in the reference photo. Since I perceive that the fur has a gray bottom on the reference photos, I started by coloring it gray and now in the progress color brown on the surface

-
That looks so good! Lot of respect for that helmet. :like:
Side note, did you use a pattern for the skirt part?
-
Thanks for the feedback :D. No I did not use a pattern, only reference photos.
-
Dang. Even more respect. :sabine:
-
After the modification on the helmet, I been working with the texture. Trying to get close to the reference photos.
Since my helmet was to smooth, I put a layer of fine sand on it with glue.

Then I been sanding and putty alot.

After the first preapp I got a "fixlist".....so now I been working with the gaiters, the glove and sleeve cuffs, belt greeblie, chest and backplate and the helmet :-X.
I made the boot gaiters darker brown.
I made the short sleeves more fitted and made their cuffs more burgundy than red, the same with the gloves.
I made the belt greeblie look more weathered gold
(https://i.imgur.com/fqohAo1.jpg)
The helmet had to much texture so I have done buff sanding to smooth it out. Still have to paint and weather it.

The fur was too clumpy so I have orderd a tibetan lamb fur that I will dye
(https://i.imgur.com/TN2Lffd.png)
-
I have been painting and weathering the helmet again
(https://i.imgur.com/GP6Cvid.jpg)
I also dyed the tibetan lamm fur with different haircolors
(https://i.imgur.com/X9dAtRU.jpg)
And last I been making the attachment on the armor and put effort in making it invisible
(https://i.imgur.com/PzQnFvv.jpg)
-
I had a discussion with some App Team members a few weeks ago. Regarding the new photo (the one on the left) that was released in december, where you can see the copper better. From what I was told the CRLs may change to reflect the new reference.
I think it would be great if you added some copper on your Chest as it would add some depth to your armor.
Being that the chest, trim on gloves and sleeve trim are supposed to be burgundy by site description, I’m seeing that they’re more copper/brownish. Are these criteria going to change based on these newer reference photos?
-
So now I got my fixlist from the approval team :).
Mandalorian Mercs Application (CRBN)
Character Name: The Armorer
Hello Gunilla,
This is the Application Approval Team. Thank you for your application
for Official Membership with the Mandalorian Mercs Costuming Club.
We’ve carefully reviewed your application and your photos, and while
your costume is almost ready for approval, we do need to address just a
few points in order to finish processing and approve your kit.
• firstly we require clearer pictures in line with the requirements
• chest armour needs to be adjusted, neck is too exposed and floating
away from the body from the side.
• your helmet appears to need more weathering but the additionally
requested pictures will possibly clear that up
When you’ve made the adjustments we’ve listed, please take and submit
a new round of photos.
So now just some adjustments and Times to take new photos.
-
So I have done some more weathering on the helmet

I got my second list from the app team, some minor things to fix but one that may take some time.
1. Helmet needs less sheen/shine.
I reduced it using a matte clearcoat.

2. Apron has inconsistent weathering. Especially on the back. The bright weathering must be eliminated altogether.
I have covered the bright weathering on the apron.

3. The overall design of the chest is off. The breastplate is missing a return edge right above the ab plate that angles the piece up which diminishes done of the exposed collar around the front of the neck. What will also help diminish the visibility of your collar is your fur cape. Throughout all the references, we have found that the fur actually drapes over the sides of the collar's neckline.

After some consideration I have decided to make a new chestarmor.

Now I have 3D print my new chestarmor, put it togheter and have done some fiberglassing. When it´s dry I have to start working on the finnish on the outside.

Thank you all for the support and encouragement under this long process.
Tonight I got a message from the app team that my The Armorer is approved. It has not been easy, but all worth it in the end. I hope My wip could give some help for others.
