Hehe.. yeah.  Its another MS custom,  i think 4 of the 10 are going to be here at Mercs (correct me if i'm wrong.. Novall, Ceric, Allora, Myself).   Like i said above, its just concept.. i might change things around a little.  It also doesnt show weathering (still deciding on how beat-up i want to make it) and whether i want to use regular stickers or go the ink-jet water-slide decal route.   Any suggestions on that ?

Hey join the club. Like I said I will be buying my second tomorrow. It's a gorgeous bucket.

How heavy of a commando are you doing? Clamshell or halfshell (slightly more than Jango)?

Slightly more than  Jango.   Bicep plates, neck armor,  no cod.. doing a little something different (i just wanna beable to sit down :-D ).  Might even add a couple small plates along side the belly armor's side tabs for more protection there,  and i'm also making the chest plates a little bit shorter so i can fit in some middle pieces there (see my Armor thread for a preliminary template pic).    In general.. i'm just playing around with ideas right now.  :-D

Oogie boogie BOO ! Dead Topic Reviveth !

PROGRESS !  Got a Dremel (finnaly) a couple weeks back and i now have all the proper areas cut out.   Granted its not much overall progress.. but hey, it is what it is  ;D

I cut out the front and back grills to accommodate fans.  The rear set of circular cut outs are going to be hose intakes, and for the smaller pair i'm going to fit in 1/4" panel-style red LED's.

After i figure out the hose situation, and a couple other details, i'll get this thing painted up  :)

Ok.. ok.. i've FINNALY got it painted.  Automotive style  8)  This paint aint goin nowhere lol.    Its not finished yet.. needs weathering, a little touch up painting,  and a few doo-dads.  Namely the LED's in the small holes in the back, the hose attachements in the larger ones, and i need to actually attach the visor and ear cap (and RF stalk)  BUT.. its painted at least !! ;D ;D

Thanks Frost, but the thanks dont belong in my corner.  They should be going to Hydra.  I'm just trying to bring her design to life :)

BUT..  i have ran into an impasse.   I cant get the T-visor to sit right.  Its in there loose right now, but with the ridges inside the helmet its making my life.. difficult.    I could probably glue it in there as-is, but it wouldnt be removable, which is definately what i'm wanting.   Any of you with a MS:C have pointers in how to make this thing sit right ?

He asked me a very long time ago about adding hoses to his helmet and where I purchased mine.  I was more then happy to help and give him advise on doing the same thing.

Just for the record, I don't hold the trademark on any designs.  However, my current armor paint-job will at this point have to follow any future armor sets I make for myself in order to maintain the character and my origins of it.

Carry on with your awesome helmet thread. =)

I'd suggest doing the carbon dust thing that novall did. Gives a nice "dirty " look without the scorched look that mine has. :D

Title: Re: Roki's MS:C Bucket
Post by: Rokeim Gekla on Aug 15, 2008, 07:10 AM
Worry not !   For i shall get it blackwashed as soon as I figure out what other topical weathering i wanna do to it.   I agree with it being too clean.   But thats just one of the many other things that still need doing to that bucket.   I do have to be a little carefull with how extreme i take the weathering.   The paint is only 1 layer thick over most of it, thusly it'll all have to be topical.  :-\

Eleven eh? Bet they don't come cheap either!

Nope.. they're not lol.  Worth every penny tho. They're well detailed, and pretty tough.

On one of my helmets,  i used a light mist of black enamel,  then sprayed it with 'activator' for superglue. That made the wet enamel like watercolor.  Then I whiped it off,  and it comes off everywhere but the cracks.

I love the look of this helmet.  The only thing I would have done differently,  is even where your doing the 'same colors' when there are recesses,  maybe give it a little different hue/shadow so you dont wash out the detail.

Do the earpieces come off of that thing?

Nope.  The only thing that comes off is the piece that covers the RF stalk.

Update time !

As per the .. numerous.. requests  :P  i've gotten the helmet blackwashed AND carbon dusted.  Its definatly one dirty bucket now  ;D   I've also installed the Visor (mostly), all i have to do is drill out holes for 2 more screws and it'll be fully in there.  RF stalk is painted and ready to mount.  Aaaannnd i ordered an earcap from Stormrider.  So whenever that gets here, i'll take that and my half painted JP up to the bodyshop to get the right colors applied.  Only things left to do after that is mount the hoses, add a fan and 2 led's !

I'll have new shots of the helmet up after i get home.

The angle of the sun kinda drowns out some of the carbon dust/blackwash, but just imagine most of those shots with about 10-20% more grimeyness and you'll get the picture.    Dont mind pic #3.. as i said earlier, i havent quite got the visor pinned down fully yet.  Them mandibles are giving me LOADS of trouble *grumbles*

Well, as i posted over in my body armor thread.. i'm back :)

I've done a little work on the helmet since those pics above were taken.  Got the RF painted up, and a new earpiece painted up and installed.

Things yet to do

-  Helmet padding  (due to my oddly large noggin.. this could get interesting)
-  Fans   (again..due to large noggin.. i cant put a fan in the back of this beast :( )

Suggestions or ideas for the above items would be appreciated :)

The others have pretty well summed it up.  Tom's right about the numbers made, it was a very limited run.  Shame that MS is now retired tho :(( he did awesome work with all of his buckets.

The price was (i believe) $225 and the remainder of my soul tho :)   Cant put a price on perfection.

Minor updateage !

Helmet padding has been cut out and fitted properly, i've got superglue holding the various layers together.  Soon as i can, i'll get it more reliably secured, but for now  It Works !

What i used was some 1/2" carpet padding that i was able to snag from one of the local carpet stores.  1 layer worked for the dome, but i had to put a bit more on the front brow to keep the helmet from smooshing against my nose.     I could toss up some pics if ya'll want.  :)

I know this whole build is taking FOREVER.  And few people are more frustrated about it than i am.   But funds have been very short for the last few months,  unemployed for 6 months, now i'm at a cookin job which helps to barely keep us afloat.   I should beable to start working on things again soon tho.    With the ammount of things left (not a whole lot)  i should beable to start snagging the little things bit by bit to finish up.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PATIENCE !   I'm trying to make this whole build worthy of the Mercs,  and not slapping to together with bad stuff.  This suit needs to be good :)

Thx so much everyone.  HOPEFULLY i'll get this done soon now.

Marrow Sun Custom.  There's only a handful in existence, they're never being produced again, and if you want one, I believe I'm the only one selling mine.  $6k even, plus shipping.  I'll even throw in the visor!  (I think the thread with mine in it is still floating around somewhere... easiest to find by searching via my name).

Part of me actually prefers Roki's... maybe I'll drive up and swap 'em in the dead of night one of these days.

Part of me actually prefers Roki's... maybe I'll drive up and swap 'em in the dead of night one of these days.

I shall hereby note that my helmet is protected by an energy field that is strong enough to protect from any bombardment

4 years... 4 YEARS of the Same Exact helmet paintjob.

Time for a change !  Nothing hugely major,  just some details here and there.... i havent painted it yet,  but i have taped it off.   Extensive taping... as in.. alot...  and some rather intricate cutting out of patterns.    Paint will probably come tomorow or the next day,  its cold and damp today, so the paint wouldnt dry like i'd want it to on a nice sunny day.   Its not going to be too fancy,  all the cutouts are going to be painted black.

However.. i've taken a few pics ;)  enjoy !

That's a cool idea to use the 3d sculpting on the helmet for the Jaig eyes!

Can't wait to see it all done!

All in all, not a HUGE change.  But huge for me,  i've been hesitant for a couple years to do anything to this helmet,  but finally bit the bullet and went for it :)

The stenciling on the back reads Remo || 267.

After i untaped it all, the black was extremely black and rather shiney (used krylon satin,  not flat as my can of flat was..well...flat).  So i took some ground up charwood that i had from a previous project and rubbed it into the dry paint.  The char, being abrasive in nature, dulled it down and made it not quite so in-your-face Black.    All in all... i think it was a success :)
