Post by: Fettski on Sep 24, 2013, 08:35 PM

So far i have purchased:
Armor and gauntlets from RKD

US army shelter half
hoses for gauntlets
chest display from Fettronics
soft parts( flight suit, vest, spats, pouches, and neck seal) from Arkady
RF remote kit from Salamander King
RF top lights from JC27
decals from lucksy31
jetpack, Girth belt, ammo belt, gloves, boots- MOW
jetpack harness-Kcr7pr
Wookie Braids- woodman
Collar/cod studs-jodokast89
Resin EE3 kit from an unknown origin

Here are some of the latest pics.

shoulders are reversed in pic, the one with decal(worn on left) is painted weathered and sealed. the other is painted and weathered.

right chest, painted weathered, sealed

compared to other chest, still needs weathering by the display cutout.

Your armor looks really good vod, I'm bookmarking this so I can see it completed  :D

I've always been curious about this process though, before I found the Mercs I wanted to do a canon Boba Fett costume. So I was wondering which paints did you use to get the green, the yellow, and red?

Most of the painting is done.  The left chest is having the weathering around the display added.  the gauntlets will have the greebs added soon.  the knee darts will be added and some weathering shortly.  Soft parts should be in by mid November then i will begin weathering them and adding Velcro for the plates and getting the alignment correct.  Hope to be ordering Jetpack and Harness soon.

Here is the last pics of the armor until I get my soft parts in.  Gauntlets will be getting greebs and electronics soon.  Then I get to start the painting of the helmet.  The Remote RF is coming along and is already fabbed up, just need new electronics for the top and then disassemble for the paint up.
Things i need to buy, frame for jetpack, jetpack, boots, gloves, ee3, girth belt and ammo belt.  I really hope to have this ready to debut at Dragon Con next year!!!

Looking good! I would give all your armor a rub-down with #000 or #0000 steel wool to deaden the yellows and dull the silver a bit.  It helps to blend all of the colors together a tad and give the plates unity.

I prefer the #000 but all my steel wool pads are nice and worn out.  If you use brand new ones the #0000 might be a better bet.

Thanks, i will see if some 0000 will help.  Just got my soft parts in.  here is a bit of a test fit.  I just threw the plates on for scale

Realy nice armor Vod ;) But aren't soft parts a little too shiny? Could be a flash in camera but vest looks like it would be grey/silver?

Realy nice armor Vod ;) But aren't soft parts a little too shiny? Could be a flash in camera but vest looks like it would be grey/silver?

It is a shiny material.  It is not the same fabric but very close, its just that it has NO weathering on it and you can see so much of it.  Once i get the plates mounted on it and a little weathering it should come together better.  I havent had a chance to do another test fit since then but i am concerned about the diameter of the arm openings, they look a little tight now that i look at the pic.  I'll have to try it on again and take a closer look.
from CRL: Must be light gray in color and weathered.
The actual fabric is on the right.

Here is a very initial test fitting.  Plates will be adjusted, weathering will be added, etc.  I was working on attachment method and really wanted to get a pic with what i had on just to see how it looked.  The black spot over the chest plate is part of the wiring for the display that hasn't been routed yet.

Nice kit!

The shoulder bell looks like it needs to come up a bit. As you mentioned the chest armor is not placed right.

Your thigh pouches look a bit low and the legs are a bit baggy, you could sew the crotch in a bit that will pull the thighs up and tighten up the baggy look.

Good choice on the ROTJ, too many ESB's out there  ;)

The legs have had me pretty upset lately as a matter of fact. I am thinking about folding the suit over itself under the vest to pull the whole lower body up a little bit with snaps.

Jon, I swear to god I'll drop you.  ;D

Looking good! The chest/ab looks like it could come up a hair, as the ab is hanging off the bottom.

That's one way of going about it, but you'd have much better success sewing a panel out of the midsection rather than just bunching it up and adding snaps to keep it up.  That will lead to problems in your midsection with so many other pieces going on.  Many Fetts have issues here anyway getting a cod, girth, ammo belt, divers belt, and vest hem to all sit properly.

Decided to try a new test fit since some flight suit alterations, could use some feedback as i move forward if anything needs to be changed. Bear in mind, weathering will be after i get it all looking right. I was hoping to have the girth belt on but it is too big and will be exchanged for a smaller one this week. Once this much is sorted out, i will add the connection for gauntlet hoses in the flight suit and start getting flak vest and plates aligned.

Looks real nice, I don't see anything wrong with the fit.

Your cod piece seems to be sitting a bit low, it's touching/covering part of your thigh pouch but that's just a matter up pulling it up a 1/2".

I agree, good improvement! And I second the comment on the cod.

What have other people done between harness and backplate?  I have not tried it all on yet but this is on my duct tape dummy so it should be close.
Also is a pic of my shin tool progress. I have a feeling I'll have a Patterson chemical stirrer in my stocking from Santa.

I do love a Fett build :) Great work, all coming together nicely. I don't have that jetpack harness (but I want one) I think that once you have a proper test fit, you should find you won't have an issue.

That link is flight suit and harness.
My issue is the material at the bottom of the vest that covers the harness.  It bunches up and might cause me a problem when i go to fit the jetpack on the rail that sticks through the half circle opening at the bottom of the backplate.

Here is what i did about the vest and harness
(http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo249/jason_sgtski/Boba%20Fett/8A3E64DB-97C0-4536-8414-A2742C1A9A32_zps1pfndwek.jpg)

And here is some more fitting tests for plate alignment and velcro attachment before i had the harness openings sewn into the vest.

I still need a little more velcro under the armor and possible some snaps or magnets to ensure proper alignment after washing vest or anytime i need to remove the plates.  Once they are all aligned, I will mount the snaps for the Diamond.

Nice work my man! I hate to say it but the back plate does look a little too wide for you though :/ The shoulder bells could perhaps do with being raised a fraction too, but other than that it's looking good to me :D
Title: Re: Fettski's ROTJ Boba
Post by: Fettski on Jan 04, 2014, 07:45 AM
Here's to hoping that the backplate will look better once the harness is holding it closer to my body like it should. I'm not even sure how I would trim it down if it's not good enough. Once the flightsuit, jet pack and belts are on I think it should be good.   Good point about the shoulders.
Title: Re: Fettski's ROTJ Boba
Post by: BobaFiend on Jan 04, 2014, 08:52 PM
I think the shoulder armor looks like it's in the right spot compared to the shoulder seam of the vest, the shoulders of the vest are just a bit wide.  You could move them up a bit if you like but you won't be able to see very much of the sleeve ribbing.

All right experts,  I know this still has a bit of work to do but i had to do another round up to see where i stand.

Things i know:
Right gauntlet hose still needs to be connected.  I have a plan.
I still need to attach the diamond once the plate placement is finalized
shin tools are still being finalized
Cape is waiting for collar to be finalized and have the studs attached
wookie braids need to be secured in place
knee launchers need the little bit of paint on them
of course helmet paint and jetpack
still a little bit of weathering to do on gloves and flight suit.

Other than that please feel free to offer suggestions for improvements.

Bravo good sir! You wear your Fett well :)

Feedback:

-Your flight suit is suspiciously clean.... ;)
-Your gauntlet hose is probably WAY  too long. Mine is about 6 inches.
-I don't know what's going on with your girth belt, but something is up. We should be able to see more of it. The way mine is worn is that I put half of it over the cod, and wear the ammo belt over the other half.

Suggestions:
-Take your time with the painting. I've seen too many Fetts get burnt out from trying to do the damn thing over night. I did mine about 1 panel a night. Same to your jetpack.
-You said you still needed to secure your braids, right? I put thread through them and through my vest, so now the go no where.
-If you decide to upgrade your boots, definitely go with the MOW's 2013. They're wicked nice and highly accurate.

Good stuff though! I can't wait to see it finished :D

Thank you for the comments!!!  The flight suit has a little weathering but will get more.  The hoses are long because I am planning to attempt attaching the buckle to the jp harness. Still working the the details. I want it secure so I don't rip fabric should it catch on something. I will def take my time on the remaining painting.  I will get the braids secured next chance I get to work on the kit.

I'm sorry to say buddy, but your jetpack weathering just doesn't look a whole lot like the movie. With such good reference available for the ROTJ pack I don't think that it will pass muster that way.  Unless you still have a lot to add topically, you may need to re-asses where you are on that piece.

Here are some updated pics of the Jetpack/ backplate adjustments. Big thanks to Vultana for helping me out.  Still working on the weathering and remaining parts of the jetpack once i get the hardware parts configured.  Then finally comes the helmet.

Here was after we reshaped the backplate to fit me better. I know there isnt much to see but thats the point, no backplate sticking out the sides anymore.

Here is the Jetpack being supported by the harness. The far left stud is missing because it needed a longer screw for the cape.

It looks like just your head got caught in a Tatooine sandstorm and wore off all the paint.  :P

But seriously, looks awesome.

Looks great! I'd give your spats and gloves a little bit of weathering. I think you should also shorten your jetpack straps. Also make sure we can still see your girth belt! Bring the girth belt down to cover the top of the cod a bit more and have the ammo belt sit on the top edge. Oh and tuck that divers buckle up under your vest.

This is an excellent ROTJ Boba! Can't wait to see what you do with the helmet.

The spats and gloves will get a little bit of weathering still, they are still brand new.
The jetpack straps will get adjusted to bring the top of the pack closer, my helper needs some more training.
I have realized the girth belt is too narrow,  about half of what it should be.  I am talking to the guy who sold it to me and he should be getting replacements in this month and should do a swap for me.
The divers belt for ROTJ should be ok to stick out as it is seen in the movie.

sorry for the delay in the update.  Ive been staring at the helmet procrastinating.  I did some work and took some pics this past weekend.  Im not quite ready for my application, but very close.  Id like to share some pics.
I am aware i do not have the girth belt,it is being swapped out.
I need to finish the helmet paintjob
I am missing the 2 greebs on the jetpack, they are being painted
other than that, i think i am at about 95%.
