Title: Jakar Jasra WIP
Post by: Deadshot on Sep 20, 2014, 05:10 PM
Hello everyone this is my first WIP, thanks to my vode such as Kris Jasra, Kitala Enby, Reyn Vok'chi, Paul Vardabob, Ken, Kyle and a few others for the advice and support really appreciate it :D

I started off brainstorming with a few ideas on colours and what type I was going to be, settled on a heavily armored Mando as I am roughly 6'4 and only 16 :P

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/MandalorianBase3_zpsc1a465c9.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/MandalorianBase3_zpsc1a465c9.jpg.html)

Once I got my base idea done I started on the basics, first thanks to Paul Vardabob for providing me with a boiler suit really appreciate it man :D Dyes it black, bought some boots with no laces and some leather flight gloves to start everything off.
Also with some help from my parents built a flak jacket.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Jakesuit4_zps2f8bde38.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Jakesuit4_zps2f8bde38.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Jakesuit2_zps2afb11db.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Jakesuit2_zps2afb11db.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Jakesuit3_zpsc13a2205.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Jakesuit3_zpsc13a2205.jpg.html)

Also as I was doing a few exams I wanted to do something to keep my mind occupied other than video games and revision so I built my very first blaster hope you like it :) Cobbled it together from a broken P228 pistol, a piece of PVC pipe,
plumbing nozzle, 3mm sintra, plastic curtain rod covers, plastic parts and other various pieces.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Jakesgun4_zps0135f240.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Jakesgun4_zps0135f240.jpg.html)

So first to start off the armour I traced out the paper templates, cut them out and applied them to my flak jacket for the right sizes and placements. Thanks to Kit for helping me sort out the back.

Armou(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Camera2892009_zpsed74eddd.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Camera2892009_zpsed74eddd.jpg.html)r

I started to trace out onto sintra and cut it out, sanded the edges down to smooth them out a bit.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourCut1_zps9bd6060b.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourCut1_zps9bd6060b.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourCut2_zps32e45fd9.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourCut2_zps32e45fd9.jpg.html)

After that I started with the collar piece and heated it up to form properly, fit it into place and folded it slightly until it was at the right angles.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Collartest1_zpsa59938b6.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Collartest1_zpsa59938b6.jpg.html)

This is how far I have gone, tomorrow I will heat up the rest and form them, very excited to do this :D also I will update this WIP as much as I can when I have spare time.

Please comment and share any advice it will all be appreciated :)

Jake

P.S These images are now just pictures I had taken at the LFCC in London my first Comic Con, was a long journey but worth every minute to meet you guys :D Also got to meet Chewbacca which is not a usual thing to happen :P

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Camera2841ComicCon340_zps1dd9166c.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Camera2841ComicCon340_zps1dd9166c.jpg.html)

Also thanks to Paul who was at the con helping me with the helmet sizes, otherwise this pic would not be as cool looking and the blaster again thanks to Kit :D

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Mewithhelmetandblaster_zps346e4693.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Mewithhelmetandblaster_zps346e4693.jpg.html)

Hey everyone got a big update on what I have been up to :D
The back plates, collar plate and shoulder plates have had a coat of grey undercoat for the paints
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00173_zpsbe75eea9.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00173_zpsbe75eea9.jpg.html)

After this I gave them all a even coat of silver. ( Sorry I do not have a pic of the back plate in silver as I was already giving it the other coats of paint )

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00195_zps803e1359.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00195_zps803e1359.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00192_zpscc933e9a.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00192_zpscc933e9a.jpg.html)

And now this is where the fun begins :)

Sprayed my beige coat and did a secret technique on my armour, the shoulder bells came out like this

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping2_zpsa48948f0.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping2_zpsa48948f0.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping3_zpsd2d2981b.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping3_zpsd2d2981b.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping1_zpsfd00bf3a.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping1_zpsfd00bf3a.jpg.html)

Then I added the red stripes :)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping7_zps14cfc2c5.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping7_zps14cfc2c5.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping6_zpsf4a31001.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping6_zpsf4a31001.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping9_zps7b0dd4ff.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping9_zps7b0dd4ff.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping10_zps2ea5106b.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping10_zps2ea5106b.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourChipping4_zps666d8323.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourChipping4_zps666d8323.jpg.html)

I then applied this to the other pieces and here is the result :)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Armourcollection1_zpsb22d7579.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Armourcollection1_zpsb22d7579.jpg.html)

So so pleased with it :D Will continue it as soon as possible.

Hey again got even more progress to show :)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourCollection2_zps9b89db48.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourCollection2_zps9b89db48.jpg.html)

Chest pieces are done so so happy :D

Went to the Cardiff Con and got a pic of my current set up

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/ArmourMandalorian25_zps0c6c3aeb.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/ArmourMandalorian25_zps0c6c3aeb.jpg.html)

The thigh plates are being modified to stay up better, helmet and gaunts are still coming  but still excited :)

Update: My new grenade prototype :D The TFG-M1 or the Timed Fragmentation Grenade Mark 1 :D

Helmet update !! :D Ok so the visor has now been cut, blemishes and air bubbles sanded and filled with putty. Working now on adding custom details to the helmet, a lot of work that I am so excited for :)
Some general pics of the helmet.

Pic of the back detail I am working on :)

Some close ups :D
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00398_zpsw8un0scr.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00398_zpsw8un0scr.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00397_zpsrzlcdaff.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00397_zpsrzlcdaff.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00396_zpsegbarcob.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00396_zpsegbarcob.jpg.html) Masked for safety.
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00399_zpsoyqt5hua.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00399_zpsoyqt5hua.jpg.html)

A very big update now :) Sprayed my helmet silver then with a dusting of beige.
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00404_zpso0ylvbri.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00404_zpso0ylvbri.jpg.html)

After that I peppered the flour over the wet spray paint for the weathering effect :)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00405_zpsc0tlhhlh.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00405_zpsc0tlhhlh.jpg.html)

Then the red was applied onto the edges of the visor and edges of the ear caps.
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00414_zps8kicka51.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00414_zps8kicka51.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00416_zps74d0zbq4.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00416_zps74d0zbq4.jpg.html)

This was the best bit, I applied the red chevrons to the top of the helmet to match with the rest of my kit and added black to the cheeks and the back of the helmet. So pleased with the result :D :D :D
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00426_zpsu6oqr2yn.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00426_zpsu6oqr2yn.jpg.html)

And with a bit of help I modified the back vent for some difference :)

Looks good, the chevrons could have easily looked way to busy, but you did a fantastic job on them and they look great. It kind of gives me A New Hope rebel pilot helmet vibe for some reason.

I got the same vibes, due to the color and weathering. The beige/off-white and make it look like it just came off set.

Update !!! :D

Ok so I have been working on my blaster but I have been a little stumped.
Got a hacked up body of a M-40 bbgun but I am struggling for choice on two blaster barrel choices, need Mandalorian dakka advisors :D

The first barrel is a short stubby barrel with vent holes and a end cap

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Blaster%20pic%20short%20barrel_zpscloefikc.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Blaster%20pic%20short%20barrel_zpscloefikc.jpg.html)

The second (and one of my Mandalorian friends prefer this one) is the long barrel made from a compressor hose rod.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Blaster%20pic%20long%20barrel_zps6j3sgdow.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Blaster%20pic%20long%20barrel_zps6j3sgdow.jpg.html)

Size comparison for stubby barrel

Update :D :D Ok so after taking a small vote with some friends and fellow vode I finally decided on the short snub barrel to make an repeater blaster. And I have found a sort of metal housing unit of sort perfect for a side magazine :D

Here it is on its own, it will be filled in and modified with a housing unit :D

Update :D :D

Ok so after some work with my friend we cut off the scope mount and swapped the inner pvc pipe barrel with a copper barrel. Then using a small stick and a cooker flame we heated up the copper pipe with some oil creating a beaten, worn look on the pipe as if it has seen lots of use.

Here is the inner barrel alongside the outer barrel with holes drilled and filed.

Great stuff - posting here so I can see how things turn out!

Love the use of real pieces of metal (something I'm trying on my wife's blasters) to help 'sell' the other non-metal parts and add a bit of weight.

Like the method for drilling all those holes around the barrel - piece of paper wrapped around (why didn't I think of that?) - just about to start building my blaster (based on the 1313 Boba) so will definitely borrow that technique!

I see the notes about using flour on the helmet - are you using that in a similar way to the way that rock salt can be used to create gravel-chipping effects? e.g. dust on with water, when it's dry overspray and then rub off?

And digging the colour scheme too - the off-white/beige really works for me

Thank you :D Well the way we do it if I remember correctly for the flour is to get the basecoat paints first done (Grey and sliver) then with some acrylic for the base chips then flour for the pitting effect if I am right.

Thanks again - I think I'm going to have to try another weathering experiment (will post pics on my blaster thread) - rock salt worked pretty well to get large chips for me but I like the fine dusting that the flour is giving you - the paint looks much more like it has been eroded over many years.

I've used artist's latex-based masking fluid to get the larger marks, but will try using toothpaste since finding and rubbing off the masking fluid proved to be really hard work since it paints on so thin it's almost impossible to find under the topcoat once it's cured.

Great work, vod.  I wish my parents had been more supportive of my Star Wars love when I was younger.  They thought it was stupid.  Now that I'm 41, they think it's even stupider.  But hey, my Dad loves golf, and I don't get the appeal of that.

I really enjoying watching your kit come together, vod.  And definitely taking notes.

Back again vode !! :D Had a bit of a brainstorm at one point so I put some ideas to paper. (Had a look at a vod's suit of armour for inspiration ;) ) and created a few future designs that I will attempt to make after I have handled a personal non-Star Wars related prop :D

Hey again vode I have got a massive update on my kit, a lot of work has been put into the kit with repairing and creating new parts :D

One of the biggest changes to my kit was the inclusion of an Aker voice amp so that people could hear me properly under my bucket and to just have it sounding really awesome :D (Had too much fun with it messing about with my family). To have the amp blend with my kit I first bought an old white Russian grenade pouch.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00646_zpsntowfu2k.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00646_zpsntowfu2k.jpg.html)

Then once I had made sure the amp could fit inside the pouch I cut a hole right where the headset would connect to the amp so that I could snake the wire through the flap.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00648_zpsvfwe8u1a.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00648_zpsvfwe8u1a.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00650_zpsw6ufuept.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00650_zpsw6ufuept.jpg.html)

After I had cut the hole out I then proceeded to weather the pouch up washing it thickly in coffee with brown and black inks giving a very dirty look which of course I wanted :D

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00654_zpso9ow1hwt.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00654_zpso9ow1hwt.jpg.html)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00653_zpshr8ccxzo.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00653_zpshr8ccxzo.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00653_zpshr8ccxzo.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00653_zpshr8ccxzo.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00655_zps9lxajq8g.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00655_zps9lxajq8g.jpg.html)

One of the biggest problems I had with my kit was the lack of a balaclava. At cons and events fellow vode and friends would point out that if they stood below me (Not my fault that I tower over most people ....) they could see my face when I was wearing my helmet. To fix this thanks to my mother she made me a balaclava which reaches only up to my nose and just over my ears at the back.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00666_zps27g9g7a8.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00666_zps27g9g7a8.jpg.html)
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00664_zpsl0fezeia.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00664_zpsl0fezeia.jpg.html)

(Mucking about with the visor out :P )

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00667_zpskagmsysb.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00667_zpskagmsysb.jpg.html)

Side shot of the balaclava.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/12034391_1211380412211428_5157513058158017961_o_zps7cmjkc9u.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/12034391_1211380412211428_5157513058158017961_o_zps7cmjkc9u.jpg.html)

Padding has also been added to the bucket to make it much more comfortable to wear.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00659_zps3ickenry.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00659_zps3ickenry.jpg.html)

Of course how could I leave out my blaster thanks to my mother's partner who helped me to create my kit so happy about it :D

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/11754910_1153770397972430_7471986591221742004_o_zpsliurbafs.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/11754910_1153770397972430_7471986591221742004_o_zpsliurbafs.jpg.html)

Now then these are pics of what status my kit is currently in. The shoulder bell plates now have red chevrons to match the rest of the kit, shin guards and plain temporary gauntlets are not part of it until I make or buy a proper pair of gauntlets.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/12185065_1211380935544709_9026087145292888553_o_zps2ccczdor.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/12185065_1211380935544709_9026087145292888553_o_zps2ccczdor.jpg.html)

Your Jasraness and love for destruction is definitely improving :P
Hmmmm, apart from the obvious screw holes to fill, that looks like a pretty solid base that won't need too much modding. Got a few protrusions that I'd cut off and sand down, but I can't see much else I'd do beyond giving it character. That cannon will need character - like the Halo flamethrower that has a shark painted on - something like that, a cool paint job and/or some trophies tied to it.

It's been a while since I did this :)

After finishing my exams and with LFCC coming up (Wish I could've gone to Celebration :l ) I thought I would get back to working on my kit, specifically with my gauntlets. With a lot of help from my parents I am now starting on a fresh pair of gauntlets, one with mini armour piercing rockets and the other a single barreled repeating blaster (which will turn into two barrels eventually)

Here is the base of the first one made completely out of 5mm Sintra.

The gaunts will be hinged using piano hinges to give a secure fit, velcro and padding will be added eventually.

The armour piercing round gauntlet is being worked on by Steven, the one who has helped me from the start of my kit so that I may work on the other gaunt for practice and time.

These are the armour piercing rounds he has made from blunted darts and wide felt tip pens which will be detailed with plastic finds at the tips.

These will be covered and secured in place underneath this metal plate from an old computer and built up on with other pieces once the basics have been secured.

Done some more progress on my gauntlets.
Created the platform for the gauntlet along with a repeating blaster made from a pressure hose, copper nozzle, aluminium connector, a scrap piece of metal and two printing  cartridges, really happy with how it came out :D

Tomorrow going to sand it all down, glue the weapon on and start basecoating hopefully before LFCC.

Just checking in - while they're still in this state...

If you can, put the hinges on the outside of your arm.
Made the mistake for mine, and Nikjay's gauntlets to hide the hinges on the inside - looks good, but a can be a pain to put on without a helping hand.

Other thing - and it's a bug I'm working out on my rather heavyweight gaunts after my first-ever 3 days of trooping at Celebration - make sure the gauntlets are supported by your forearm and aren't putting weight on the backs of your thumbs - found this out the uncomfortably hard way - you'll get a numbness in the backs of your thumbs that'll last for a good few days...and that's never going to be good.

Great stuff!

Oh...and enjoy all that sanding and smoothing.

Thanks for the advice !! Yeah will now put the hinges on the outside to make it easier, also the gauntlets feel perfectly fine on my forearms and do not put weight on the backs of my thumbs ^,^ Managed to do all of the sanding tonight even if my fingers are literally killing :P

Update time !!!!

It has been a while since I did any kind of work on my kit and after finding my badly painted gauntlet I thought I would give an update.
Here is the blaster gauntlet that was supposed to have been finished before LFCC but it sadly did not happen, the paint job will be fixed eventually once I get some free time in college.

But here is something I am very excited to show :D
Five weeks ago I started college on a Foundation Art course and have fallen in love with it. It has been expanding my knowledge in artistic techniques and the best part is that the 3D workshop (that I will mainly be studying) will be letting me do various props and costumes :D Our task today was to make a body modification so I thought I would make a scrap bit of shoulder armour out of 3mm Sintra / Foamex I had lying around in the house. Here are the results :)

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00760_zpsbyempj4i.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00760_zpsbyempj4i.jpg.html)

I think I will have to re-create this properly and make this into an opposite arm pad for my kit, what does everyone think ??
Title: Re: Jakar Jasra WIP

After a few late nights I created a larger version of the shoulder plate so that it can rest properly on there rather than try to spring off.

Front

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00764_zpss9jgyx21.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00764_zpss9jgyx21.jpg.html)

Side

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00765_zps8jksklk4.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00765_zps8jksklk4.jpg.html)

Back

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC00766_zpsmfg6utsg.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC00766_zpsmfg6utsg.jpg.html)

Although because of my backplate being so awkward at the top (with the tabs on the shoulders levitating rather than sticking) and it being of not the best construction, I will have to completely re-do my backplate before I can try to attach the shoulder pad. That is if anyone thinks it fits the kit at all. :P

Personally I would roll it back more on your shoulder that it almost goes straight up and down (In the pictures it looks rolled forwards). Never seen anything like this so I definitely think it's unique :O . My only real suggestion is if you do want it to sit at an angle like that, design the neck-shield to fit more to your neck rather than the plate itself. Try creating an obtuse angle with it, instead of 90 degree. Look at that, i'm so awestruck with it that I can't even find the right words! :P
Look forward to seeing it in action.

Thanks for the compliments and advice !! Yeah its at such a weird angle because I could not fit it properly on my shoulder with my backplate all sticking out, need to fix that first before I can get to shoulder pad :D

Phew this WIP thread is plastered in dust, so sorry about leaving it for so long !!!

Hello everyone, apologies if has been such a long time since I have been on the forum for so long, been dealing with a mixture of Foundation Art, finishing my first year of Art college, dealing with personal matters and if I am honest being afraid to approach my own kit. My interests has flopped around a lot for the past year or so, dealing with Warhammer, then Doctor Who and so on and so on, but in the back of my head (more specifically my shelf in my bedroom) I would always look at my chevron decorated bucket and just lament over not not getting back to being a Mando and be with my vode.

So, since I will be having a month or two completely free to do what I want I am going to see about kicking myself up the backside and finally getting back into it all !! First going to start doing some sketching and writing up a to-do list of what I must do. Can't wait to throw myself back into the blasters and beskar !!

Ok because my old blaster got the handle and barrel cracked and ripped apart at LFCC a few years ago I thought it was time I created a new one, this time completely by myself with no help from anyone.

I started off sketching a design with the base idea being a heavily modified version of General Grevious's pistol but tooled up to look like a blaster rifle of sorts, since a regular small blaster looks quite comedic in scale to me according to my friends.
Here was the quick sketch I made of what I had in mind at the time.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Blaster%20WIP%201_zps9a4tm5au.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Blaster%20WIP%201_zps9a4tm5au.jpg.html)

Here is a very old Grevious pistol toy I had for a few years now, filled with milliput and sanded to be made into a smaller blaster when I was younger, before I cut it apart.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC03447_zps3whgkj32.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC03447_zps3whgkj32.jpg.html)

Here is the gun cut apart with the addition of other components. After my last blaster was as I said heavily damaged at a London Con, along with the pressure of Con's now putting more restrictions on props and the like I wanted to make this blaster much lighter so that security wont be too uppity about it like they were about my previous one. Due to this no metal components other than screws or the tiniest of details would be used as well as only using miliput unless needed. The overuse of miliput was the main reason for the blaster's weight due to my mother's partner's insistence on adding MOAR for a solid weight for added realism.
With this self rule in mind I applied miliput to the bare cut sections as thin as possible so that screws can easily be attached for a mechanical fitting, followed with drops of epoxy glue.
The cylindrical white shape in the centre was created using a PVC pipe connector glued to a PVC pipe end both bought from B&Q with a solvent cap glued on top. Screw holes were drilled through so that screws count securely attach the blaster and pipe pieces together securely and with less chances of the parts snapping off.
A small bottom detail of cut 3mm foamex was applied to the bottom of the barrel to cover some old damage to the gun and for a small hand grip of sorts, a small way of breaking the silhouette and making it appear different.  To top off the barrel an old torch connector piece was cut, sanded and glued in place over the tip with a bead of miliput applied all around the bare seam.

Here is the blaster components put together.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/Blaster%20WIP%202_zpsidt3npmf.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/Blaster%20WIP%202_zpsidt3npmf.jpg.html)

Feels good to get back to it all, Ramon was watching over my shoulder through the entire ordeal with excitement over the thoughts of being my Mando companion again. I am currently on the hunt for large chunky printer cartridges to be used for one or two magazine's on the blaster as well as contemplating whether to add a Sterling submachine gun styled stock on the back made from foamex plated wood, as well as possibly adding a scope.

More work has been done to the blaster with the addition of a small bar along the blaster barrel with a modified printer cartridge attached to the right side to act as the blaster's magazine. Small details were added to give detail to the magazine more chunkiness and star wars feel, like the real sterling machine gun.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC03478_zps1bh541hs.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC03478_zps1bh541hs.jpg.html)

Another addition that is currently in the work is a scope to the top. Made from half of a Tesco kid's bubblesword glued with a cut off section of a pressure hose nozzle it will be attached in place using small pvc rods drilled into the scope and gun, then glued in place. However with just two rods it will need more detail to make it fit better but I will work this detail out after I finish attaching it.

Ok so attaching the scope !!

I drilled one hole in the bottom of the scope and inserted a cut PVC rod into the scope, this will act as a solid support to keep the scope in place.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC03484_zpsmldosw3e.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC03484_zpsmldosw3e.jpg.html)

A platform made of foamex and detailed with ABS plastic plates was glued under the scope to add detail and look like the scope platform. Once it was created miliput was used to finish off and fill in any unwanted gaps and left to dry.

Here are pics of the scope now attached to the blaster.

I am really pleased with the current results, now I got to work on the stock which I have an idea for. When I was idling in B&Q like you usually do I found some cheap 1 wooden shelving supports that scaled well against me if it was modified a little and used as a stock. My plan is to attach a piece of wood to the support, pushing it into the back of the blaster after a few cuts and plating the wood with plasticard and foamex to hide the wood. This should make the stock solid and look star warsy.

Going to attempt the stock tomorrow so take care vod !!

After the armour party last weekend with some help thanks to Tak'ur creating templates I got to work today on tracing, cutting, sanding and heat forming replacement plates. The main plates requiring replacement being my horrendous backplate that loved to levitate on my back and my collar plate that was not to the correct size.

Here are the starting results of the collar and back plate that will segmented for comfort and ease.

(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/Jakelisak/DSC03534_zps6zrlumjl.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Jakelisak/media/DSC03534_zps6zrlumjl.jpg.html)

The backplate is far from complete although I feel its already an improvement than  the old one, especially since the shoulder curving sections snapped off on the original backplate.

Thanks Dha'werd,

while I am constantly feeling like my work is horrifically inadequate to be of any worth yet its good to hear people's support.

Speaking of the collar plate however I do have some bad news.... While heat forming the ab plates and tweaking with the collar plate one of the shoulder bits decided to snap during the heat process ( Was my fault, shouldn;t have been distracted for a second). Was a bit gutted but what can you do. I  cut out, sanded and heat formed a new one though it it isn't as nice in shape as the previous one.

Broken collar plate above the new but less impressive bottom plate.

Tried it out alongside the heated ab plates, it looks ok although I constantly kept feeling like I wasn't going to get it right, heating, bending, heating, bending over and over but I still feel it is inadequate. Here are pictures though...

Collar plate is looking pretty good! For the thumb width spacing you might need to increase the angle from the center to the shoulder tabs but that could just be the angle at which the picture was taking. Also, don't worry vod I feel as though a lot of us are in the same boat and feel as though our work isn't of much worth at times. However, keep trucking along. You are doing well and the more you work on your kit the more you will learn and the more you will be able to tweak your kit to get it just to where you want it.

Your new collar is looking good. Much better width than the last one. The shaping on it looks good and looks to be smooth across your torso. You are going to want to try and smooth out the top edges of your chest plates to match now, especially the outer edge of the left one. It looks like a finger would go under there which is too much.

Your paintwork is superb, good use of weathering and clearly thought about.

Your backplate piece is about 4-6" too low for how the design is intended to be used.

That central W shape is actually designed to be a rear neck guard. In the image above you can see the W shape has completely disappeared as you only see the central piece once done, as the tabs go over the shoulders.

You do require a second person to heat shape it though

You then end up with a completely curved backplate. The tabs coming over the shoulders should be intentionally large so once shaped they can be cut back into shape.

The backplate has always confounded me but now I know what I have to do, thanks Hik'aari !! Sadly I wont be able to work on it due to not having a pair of helping hands until weekend but I will continue to work on the rest of my armour.

I was unable to post yesterday's progress due to having trouble's with Photobucket but after the breast plates have been frustrating me over and over I decided to create a brand new pair to see how they would fare compared to my already painted pair. A problem that I noticed while heating parts of my armour was that my tabard was shaped for me when I was shorter and slightly wider with the velcro strips holding the plates in place not correct anymore, making placing the plates correctly slightly frustrating. Another problem I found with my tabard was due to the urgency of the previous parts to be built for my first troop a rounded sheet of very thin plastic was stuck inside to keep the plates at a straight matched angle. While this worked well with my previous body shape, now it only hindered the shape of my armour to what it should be, so I removed all the velcro from the chest section, took out the plastic sheet inside and heat formed these new breast plates.
One problem I also discovered was to do with my collar plate, the bottom section was not equal in length so I shaved one side to become equal to the other for a better fit.

Here are some images of them, if in the image they look a little off keep in mind they are held in place with double sided sticky tape that constantly moved and shifted around  which caused constant frustration when attempting to take photos, worsened due to the fact I don't have a second pair of hands to take the photos currently.

The centre sections of the breast plates were also flattened on a table slightly during the heating process, I felt it helped fit the contours of my chest with a few more small bends for a snug fit. The new chest diamond was done for fun with scrap foamex and plasticard but I think it looks nice.

Here are pics of the gut plate cut sanded and made to roughly fit the spacing between the plates. It has been maddening working on these chest plates to say the least. The double sided tape popping off, curves going wrong, heating one bit only for another to pop up. Been worrying over and over to get these plates to OM standard while also hoping to get it ready for Cardiff Comic Con coming soon.

Finally managed to get the help needed to start heat forming my back plate !! Was a relief to finally get it bent into shape. Also got a few pointers that were bringing the armour down, mostly minor things such as the collar plate's length was not equal on one side compared to the rest. The plates were heated to shape, edges were trimmed that need to be rounded and a new medallion is needed due the shape being off somewhat, will just use it for something else.

The collar plate and back plate have been trimmed down near the edges to have a perfect matching fit, a look that I really like but couldn't have done without help.  One note I should make is that in the photos some of the plates appear to be floating off in small areas. This is due to the double sided sticky tape (which will be replaced with industrial velcro and fabric glue) losing its stickiness from constantly pulling the plates off and on the tabard but when its pressed into place like it will be with the velcro it hugs the body fine.

Good to see you're keeping up with this. Just to note there is not a need to measure and get things mm correct, our bodies aren't always symmetrical so it comes down to "How it looks when worn" rather than "How its worn when measured".

You're spacing looks good, it changes at different angles so we just need to ensure it all matches when the photo is taken head on.

As for the chest plate floating I see you noted it was from the tape; I would strongly urge you to photograph it with the attachment method before you paint. As they have been attached now they wouldn't be accepted so I couldn't in good faith tell you to paint. If you can show they are shaped to you and fitted then we are good, otherwise some further shaping could be needed.

Your backplate is going to need further shaping. The very top plate was positioned too low when it was shaped, so it is going to need more shaping in the bottom half to compensate as its now floating away (Check the bottom outer corners of the top plate). The top half of it is shaped nicely, you have that edge following your shoulder and closing in at the neck, which is awesome to see.

What is of more concern to me is whether you are standing at an odd angle in your back plate photo, or (what I actually think is) that your entire back plate is trailing over to the left (especially looking at where the centre of the vest is for the attachment). I would suggest to take the bottom two plates out and concentrate on getting that top plate centred and those edges heated and shaped in. Then get the secondary plate under it, centred and shaped and finally that bottom plate. If needed you can slightly sand the top 10mm of those plates to reduce the material so it slips under the plate above slightly easier. It isn't something I have had to do yet but I am just looking at the thickness of your material and giving you the option.

Thanks for the feedback Hik'aari, I have been working on the armour all day learning how to sew and attaching velcro to all of the chest armour. Going to be moulding more of my backplate tomorrow morning then begin applying the velcro along the back of the tabard and the inside of the back plate.

Here are some photos of the chest armour now attached in place with velcro. The only problem I noticed with the velcro was the upwards pointing part of the gut plate was not sticking to the tabard due to a slight lack of velcro. This will be fixed tomorrow, its only noticeable when moving around but still an error that will be solved easily.

Dusting off the cobwebs again from this thread.

Finished my replacement main blaster many months ago, proud of how it came out.

Today I forced myself to work on some parts I have dreaded for some time. Leg armour.
Out of the blue I worked on a cardboard template and made a single piece, combining a shin guard with a knee guard similar to Clone Trooper and Stormtrooper leg armour.  Here are some quick photos of it taped to my leg.

Got an idea for attaching it properly using a mixture of hidden velcro and strapping by cutting small slots in the base jumpsuit to thread straps around my leg so that it remains firmly in place while velcro supports it and keeps it in the correct position.
