Title: Juggernaut repaint. Advice needed and appreciated
Post by: Briks on Dec 12, 2014, 01:35 PM
Yelloooo!

So, I decided to repaint my plates and helmet! Reason being, I want my mando to look "real" I liked my old look, but I just don't think it looked real enough, so repaint time! I decided I wanted to really weather this guy, "death by a thousand cuts" kind've look like he's been in combat for a loooong time.

I'm actually going on a trip, so no updates after this for a bit, but I'd like to amass some advice

So here's the helmet.

Weathering detail

So how's the weathering looking? I did heavier weathering on any edges on the helmet (i/e the visor guard and ear piece edges)

So next thing I'd like to do is add some stripes, and a few markings (but simple ones!) Any advice on weathering is helpful! I want the stripes to look like they're wearing off a little, so if anyone has tips on how to weather the edges that'd be awesome.

Why... why did you change it? Why the repaint... It was sooo beautifull... In the name of the holy emperor and Malcador, why do you commit these heresies!

FOOL I am a chaos worshiper!

Death to the corpse emperor!

In all honesty 3 major reasons

1. To pretty. Yeah, everyone loved it but was it really mandalorian armor? No. I was lookin at it and it just doesn't give that mando feeling.

2. I had no Idea what to do about weathering. The original helmet didn't have a silver undercoat so I couldn't realistically weather it.

3. IM AN ARTIST!!!!! I love destroying my work and creating something new! I really like my current design plan.

Didn't anyone ever tell you Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

*ZING!*

And anyway, now I can use the Jokers "do you know how I got these scars?" Catch phrase. Worth it.

Yes, they told me, and my reply was and continues to be that the most beautiful and best buildings all have a solid foundation.

I would have advised to put liquid masking down before you pianted the stripes. Even still, you can still weather it up nice. Get a razor and scrape any spots you want weathered. Use a variety or abrasive objects. Steel wool, scour pads, heavy grit sandpaper. Then go back with your wash. Ink or paint works great. As muchbas ive always tried to apply it with a brush or sponge, i almost always default to getting my fingers dirty  (literally). Dip your thumb in whatever youre using and give her hell. Then, you can always go back and highlight the "new" damage areas where the grime hasn't collected yet.

...that is no way to talk about a lady...especially Briks.   Sorry Briks.  Dha is right, a dark wash is going to be your friend when it comes to making this look grimy

While I liked your old colour scheme, I really like this, It's very nice and understated, Not super bright and eye catching, But also says "you wont forget me", Looks utterly bad -censored-, Are you going to add more paint? Because for once I'll say this, I genuinely think it doesn't need anything more.

Mulling over either a simple white cross on the left side (medic) or just leaving it. I've got a simple sigil I'm gonna put on the shoulder pad nothing to fancy (Bantha skull)

Glad you like it by the way, I really wanted to give that cool, but still feasible scheme.

I still think your original looked really cool. But i like this equally for different reasons. I'd say skip the cross, If it ain't broke don't fix it. Well unless you want to, In the end it's your call. But I don't think it needs it.

Less work for me!  :)

Two questions. Shinyness, it is like super reflective (mostly due to that weathering) still, some parts of the black are a little shiny, is that ok?

Two, finishing the outside, did you use any fixate on yours? Or do you know a strong fixative.

A bit of shiny is ok.  But not a lot if your bucket is supposed to be all weathered and oisk.  Although a bit of a brown wash will take away the shiny.  As for finishing the bucket.  I just put a spray on clear coat on mine (used matte, also a good way to get rid of unwanted shiny) I'm not really sure what you mean by a fixative.
