Title: Ridge Revo's first WIP
Post by: Ridge Revo on May 03, 2015, 07:01 PM
Here's my first shot at Legacy templates. What do you think?

Cool! What's your color scheme and such like?

You couldn't really see the detail in the plates very well so I traced them onto some poster board.

As far as color scheme and such, I really like the colors from my Seahawks t-shirt. The royal blue, gray and bright green would look awesome in mando armor! I also like white, but not sure where to add it in....
(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag272/trevorwhorley/6726707d264e30aca11de9da4af6b652_zpsgdf7kzz4.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/trevorwhorley/media/6726707d264e30aca11de9da4af6b652_zpsgdf7kzz4.jpg.html)

I would also like to give my plates a layered effect like these. I found these on pinterest. I think they were taken at SWCA7.

Legacy armor suits you Ner Vod! Now comes the fun part... Theres an armor party in two weeks or so in Eugene which is quite a bit closer to your area of the woods so I hope I'll see you there! Oh and you can probably get your armor plastic or metal or what not because those templates do look darn good! Color choice would be awesome to see the blue with green as your secondary and use white for stencils and what not. I've been on the lookout for that shade of green myself because that's what my yellow was supposed to be.

Templates look spot on. and those raised plates are called trauma plates. really easy to do. If you're going for legacy i suggest you go down the route of bolting all of the lames and the chest plates to leather or nylon straps, as opposed to bolting all of the plates together forming one big plate. this method will give you better movement/flexibility and greatly increase the comfort of your kit.

With that in mind if you go for trauma plating, avoid putting it on the lames as it will make moving difficult, nly trauma your chest pieces and collar, maybe shoulders and stuff too.

Colour scheme looks great as well. Just make sure you only use the colours and not the logo as then the armour comes into cross over territory and is no longer mercs approvable. However colour scheme alone is fine.

It's been a while since I've posted and haven't had a ton of progress, but I did get my plates cut out.
(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag272/trevorwhorley/5BACDFBC-D505-4CBD-A5AD-1D63D9089C9F_zpsgp21drn9.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/trevorwhorley/media/5BACDFBC-D505-4CBD-A5AD-1D63D9089C9F_zpsgp21drn9.jpg.html)

I made the lames a little larger on the top so they would have a little more room for bolting together. As you can see, I have roughly 1/2"-5/8" of overlap to be able to hide the fasteners underneath the lame above it. My question is, do you attach them to the flak vest too somehow? Or just put it on over the vest like football shoulder pads?

(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag272/trevorwhorley/AD149B56-8CF7-4C8E-92EA-12EE3C379D2C_zpsyzxwmgpm.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/trevorwhorley/media/AD149B56-8CF7-4C8E-92EA-12EE3C379D2C_zpsyzxwmgpm.jpg.html)

Also, is there a tried and true method to do the strapping??? One down the middle and one on each side like Bowfanny? Or can I just have one on each side, running from the bottom lame up to the collar plate and down the back plates? I'm sure I can do it however I want, just thought the collective genius of the forums might have some pointers.

Looking good Ner Vod,
The center strap actually holds the plates in proper spacing on my kit and the side straps are what allow for the movement you saw in my kit at the Con.
Love the Trauma plates on the chest as I was considering it for kit 2.
Also for the fun of it I addressed a question to the app team some time back which was using a Fox motor sports motocross chest armor as a mounting base for Legacy Armor and they said it was allowed because the nature of the legacy plates overs the thing entirely. That is just good for thought.
You can always run the two side straps from the front up over the top and then down the back. The center simply keeps alignment like I said before. If you need more assistance I'm going to be disassembling my main kit for repainted and can take a ton of pictures of the rebuild. I'm also using a different strap for my center strap this time around.
I'm around here or on FB.

I have read through your thread in the Legacy forum about a dozen times, but I would love to see any more pics you might have, and your new strapping system.

I really should update that thread with complete photos to show the many steps it actually takes to get a kit fully strapped and ready to wear. Too bad you weren't in the Eugene area Tomorrow as there's a helmet Armor Party and it would be real simple to get your straps set up. Also with legacy plates part of the awesomeness is to show part of the fasteners(rivets or Chicago screws) because that's part of the aesthetics for legacy.

I wanted to go to that armor party but mandatory family functions kept me in Grants Pass. I'm definitely going to the next one in Eugene!
I made a trip to Home Depot today for some sandpaper and stopped by the paint isle to check out some color choices. This is what I came up with.
(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag272/trevorwhorley/2E834C9F-E50C-4139-B579-EE34B1FAC455_zpsjfntiddk.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/trevorwhorley/media/2E834C9F-E50C-4139-B579-EE34B1FAC455_zpsjfntiddk.jpg.html)

I really like how her armor shows a third accent color through the damage. The colors I put together are Navy Blue, Eden, and Key Lime. The picture doesn't really show the actual color of the Eden very well. It's more of a split pea color of green. I was thinking my main color would be the Navy Blue, with Eden accents, and the Key Lime as the third color revealed by battle damage. Of course all of this is over a metallic chrome or brushed metal base.

(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag272/trevorwhorley/C38FCF3E-6D57-4180-A8B1-498534ACEF09_zpssclyoqom.png) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/trevorwhorley/media/C38FCF3E-6D57-4180-A8B1-498534ACEF09_zpssclyoqom.png.html)

I also like how this guys armor and bucket have an exposed metal look to it. And I love the grimy nasty weathering he has! This guy looks like the real deal!
So what do you guys think of my color choices? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Not much progress to report, although I got some sanding done today on my chest plates. I also decided that I am going to make my own scrubs now. My sewing skills are very basic, but my wife is pretty darn good, so I figure between the two of us we should have no problems. I also found these gloves at the hardware store. I know I'll have to remove the words and probably the reflective patch too. What do you think? I think after I weather them up a bunch, that neon color will be tamed down, and still fit in with my theme.

Do you think there's any reason these wouldn't pass?

I'm also looking to do some shnees and shoulder armor that would fit in with my legacy look. Any ideas?

I'd personally keep the reflective patch as it could be used as a safety precaution and as a added function to kit

Have to agree with Bowfanny on that. The neon green on those will weather naturally, too.

I got some shaping done on my kit. I still need to fine tune it so it fits together like a glove.

I have been torn between having the armor put together with the fasteners showing (like rivets), or hiding them. I prefer them hidden, but I have been told it's kind of part of the Legacy look. What do you guys think?

Update time!
Working on the back plate. Here's a few doodles. I decided to go with a smaller plate and maybe an oxygen tank type pack on the back. I think I can rig a camelback inside for those long troops.

I also worked on my shoulder pauldrons and trauma plates. I used truck straps and Chicago screws to assemble them.

I need to get a lot more Chicago screws to put it all together. It's just being held together with clamps and tape right now. What is the best way to attach the pauldrons? I was thinking about using snaps, and attaching it directly to the collar section. So what do you guys think of the latest update?

Thanks man! I am going to connect the pauldrons to the collar section of the back plate. I'll use some Chicago screws to mount them, and some small neodymium magnets on the corners to keep them from flopping around. I'm also using some larger neo mags on both collar sections of the back and chest plates to snap the two halves together.
this looks amazing!
Thanks a lot!

I got my girth belt from Sidi Ren here on the forums. Go to her thread in the supply depot for the link to her site. The link is about half way down the first comment on the thread.

For the strapping material, I am using a leftover piece of nylon heavy duty truck strap from my work. It's 4" wide, but I've been cutting it in half with my wood burning tool.

I ran this question by the app team recently, but I'm not sure they understood what I was asking, plus my reference pics didn't go through. Since Ralin Voth  responded to my question, and has also commented on this thread, I will ask the question again.
I'm considering having my trauma plates raised off my main chest plate approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch. I have two reasons.
1. I think some LED's under each plate and the diamond would look really cool.
2. I think the slight increase in the pectoral size will balance out my chest with my pizza/beer/ice cream belly! Haha!
So what do you think? Is there any reason that wouldn't work for my Legacy Mando?

I personally think it's a fantastic idea! Simply because you're beefing up your kit and keeping everything solid above and below the trauma plates.

That's a little different than what I pictured, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Pretty cool looking!

I picked up my fabric for my scrubs/flight suit at Joannes today, and stopped by the craft warehouse and look what I found!

I only wrapped them around the outside of my trauma plates and tucked them in. I will have a more permanent plan for installing them later. The glow that it gives off against the white armor and bucket is making me rethink my original color scheme. Of course if I leave it white I'm sure I'll be called a Stormtrooper everywhere I go.
~Says to self- Stay on target, stay on target!~
I think I'll keep my original colors! ;)
So what do you guys think? Do you think that the lights will "add to" or "take away" from the Swarzyness of my Mando?

I'm actually jealous of your kit now Vod! A very clean helmet followed by a very nice setup on your plates!

Love the idea of the raised plate to beef the torso, i also have a beer/pizza belly to compensate for and this seems like a nice idea. I'll keep it in mind.

The leds gives a cool look but not a fan personnaly, but great work !

It's been a really really long time since my last update! I'm still alive and progress is still being made on my kit. I still need boots and boot armor. And a weapon and some ammo pouches/utility belt. My gauntlets are on the way. April Storm is printing me some! I lost 35lbs. in the past year, so I'll probably have to tailor my scrubs a little more. Here are a few pics of what I have done.

I still have all the weathering to do also, not to mention I still need to decide on a paint design.

Thanks for the compliments! I got just enough progress done that I was able to wear it for free comic book day , though I had to borrow a blaster from my TK/Tusken buddy! I still have a list of things to finish(boot armor, strapping fixes, weathering and paint, utility belt, greeblies, etc....) Here's a few pics. What do you think?

Do your ab plates slide up beneath your chest plates?  If so I would be interested to know your strapping technique.

Thank you kindly! It's slow progress, but progress none the less!

Yes they do! They all overlap each other. Here's a few pics that might help. I used a 4" wide strap down the middle to keep the lames spaced out right. The 3/4" white straps hold the lames in and up so that they stay lined up in a profile view.

Those pictures were most helpful, but what I was looking to do was having the plates slide beneath each other completely allowing me to bend over.  Yours seem screwed into place, with the middle screw on the wide strap above each plate so it can't sink beneath the one above it.  Either way though, it's a fantastic build you've done, and I look forward to seeing the progress!
