Looking good, love the paintwork. To my eye looks like the ab plate could lift up a small amount.

Looking forward to seeing the back painted.

arise!! almost necrothread!! haha ive been posting progress up on sandhawks but forgetting main forum!! so progress>>>
did a test fit to see how everything is coming together...

i have since dyed the  girth a rusty red but adding so weathering to it has made it veer towards purple this pic makes it look worse:

soo still wondering if i could put another wash of paint thru it....
gaunts next on the list after abandoning my back plate for the timme being....grrr

so the gaunts:
IOA added a few ribs to strengthen up i dont want the paint cracking up and falling off. natural weathering is fine but when its exposing the black plastic underneath?.....not cool dude!!
blasater and greeblies added.

pretty much done after the paint was over.
now onto the next...comments etc welcome!!

Your kit looks amazing vod, and I really like your paint job!  I'm just wondering though, how heavy does the kit make your backplate (which also looks awesome by the way :) )?  I'll be redoing mine in a similar fashion this summer to fulfill brigade requirements.

thanks guys! im kinda rushing it to be ready for our local con so hope i dont stuff it up.
heres a colour test pic making sure the gaunts tie in.

as for the backplate......well that was a fail. im retrying it. as i have a shoulder that hangs a bit lower than the other one and it made it all more difficult to shape. it looks ok in pictures but its alll out of wack when i actually attempt to fit it to my back. so bunch of people cming over for an armour party. will rope some in to give my backplate a nice massage..

I know your local con is right around the corner and it is tempting to rush it. Weigh the pros and cons of each piece you have left to do and if it isn't absolutely critical don't try to squeeze it in there. i.e electronics or pieces that can be added afterword when you prepare for approval after you've received feedback from your fellow vode at the convention.

Take your time to keep to the quality of your current build. (Which looks really good!) and most assuredly keep yourself from reaching stress mode. If you've begun pulling all-nighters to make it happen, *mimics john pinette* "you've gone too far."

Take it from someone who's been there. Good luck vod!

thats good advice! i have been obsessing a bit this last week about it. its been 2 years since i started this kit and now the finish is in sight so im making a sprint for it. my wife says shes a mandalorian widow already. haha.
this armour party is going to get things back in perspective for me, as its going to be with some other 501st buddies as well helping out a new TK whos having a crisis of confidence. plus one of my mates has been working on his fett for 7 years. slowly slowly catchy monkey....

Not going to lie the first thought that went through my head when you said mandalorian widow was that there is no such thing! Your mate should be out there with you on the battlefield.

7 years...wow. That's...wow. I imagine it will be of the highest quality then.

Hmm...A stormtrooper with a crisis of confidence where have I seen this before...make sure to keep any T8-TRs off his back while he regains it! :P Good luck! I look forward to seeing more progress. :)

so update. been working steadily away. but here we go. backplate pretty much done jus going to trim the tabs so thematch up with the neck.

lower half changed up a bit.

i need to know how to keep every thing in one place. the belts all want to slide down!! Velcro?
and same for the knees. anyway the little flares are going to be shaped and painted.

and the elastic on the back of the knee plates is this fine? im not having too much luck matching the colour of the flight suit in elastic and pain doesnt seem to stick too well. im not a great sewer so thru the flightsuit doesnt work for me either.

to me it looks fine but any constructive criticism wuld be appreciated!!!!

My girth has sneaky snaps that attach to the vest, put it on and then snap them together. never needed to keep my belt in place like that however the same technique could work. I'd probably use a mix of both snaps and velcro for a belt as it'll have more weight on it with the ammo pouches and such.
And my knees have a small square of velcro just to stop them from trying to shift down or around my leg, the elastic does the main holding them up job.

Backplate looks terrible - so terrible I'll offer my usual 'disposal' services ;)

Elastic really does need to be matched or hidden. I know you said you're not much of a sewist, but I used a spare flightsuit pocket (one form the chest I think) to make a little sleeve to run elastic through rather than trying to sew buttonholes (they are a pain since I can't do them by machine) but the little sleeve is just a line of straight stitching and then turn it the other way out.

had my debut and field test today at armegeddon expo christchurch! trooped my TK on saturday with my 501st brethren, and got my mando ready for sunday morning. thought that sunday morning might be a bit quieter, so that id have more room to manuever and get used to the kit. so it wasnt quiet at all......haha got a really positive reception from the punters too. so heres some pics!!

dark alliance

crossing darth sidious wasnt smart!!

so still needs a few twaeks to get right and alot of velcro added to stop movement, but preety happy with comments and comfort of the suit.

k being the crazed nut bag i am on the eve of putting in some app pics i decide to redo my torso plates....
after some thought i am considering moving to smaller and lighter 3mm sintra plates as opposed to the 6 mm on a bigger template that i currently have opinions welcome:

so old- 6mm medium jango template and wantng to pull away from my vest everytime i moved my arms.....actually any direction despite having the whole plate and all the vest behind covered in velcro!, but look totally amaze balls and more realistic as a nice chunky armour plate....

and new: 3mm thick on a boba very trimmed down medium( trimmed almost to a small!) less weight, more movement, and a more streamlined look. but not as brutal looking. ignore the color scheme as these were repurposed from an earlier prototype, have no battle damage etc :

im pretty much set on no.2 as ive already started the paint and weathering process. but please tell me i am mad doing this as i already have a great set of plates, and im really 99% thru the build finally...

thoughts consrtuctive crits welcome!!

Honestly, the first set you had looked great.  However, if the 3mm plates sit better on you, and move better, then I say go for it...especially since you have them nearly done. heh  Plus, from an in-universe perspective, if you're spending most of your time prone, then having slightly thinner plates on your torso makes no functional difference.  They're going to be pressed against the ground the majority of the time, so I think it would work just fine.

This, by the way, is an amazing kit build. You've done some amazing work here, and should definitely be proud of yourself.

a very generous friend and fett-head has donated an original army half shelter (as used in RTOJ boba cape) to my build. As this is a special item i want to incorporate it into my kit as a half cape/ shooters poncho. i have always had a hood/ cowl/ cape ghillie thing in my concept but it kinda died as i trialled some stuff out. this is a better option as its more authentic and still has a function feel for a sniper.
however im still in 2 minds about it as its pretty close to the colour of my flight suit. any way put it on last night to see.  it needs to be attached better but i was just getting the idea. C&C needed.
