Mandalorian Infiltrator (first build WIP)
« on: Mar 04, 2016, 04:59 PM »
I was having some trouble coming up with a good design, until i went looking through the brigades. After a while, i came up with a pretty cool idea for an infiltration specialist, inspired by the Urban Assault brigade.

I plan on modifying the armor by getting rid of the rangefinder, making a different type of shoulder armor, and building a "tacpad" into one of the gauntlets.

in the above picture, it looks sort of tan, but it's supposed to be like a grayish brown color. i will be posting sketches and stuff soon. if anyone has any advice or input, i'd love to hear it.

Anyway, i'm excited about this build and hopefully i can make this happen.

Looks good, I'm looking at the Urban Assault brigade as well. I would assume from your title that you're going more for the slicer/security bypass equipment, as opposed the the "make a hole with stuff that goes bang" approach like I am

I can't wait to see what other ideas you may have, some sort of security tunneler spikes like from KOTOR or some fusion cutters might be valuable additions to an infiltration specialist in my opinion. What are you looking at for weapons?

I was thinking maybe a shotgun type of weapon for primary, seeing as how i would probably be going in first.

a couple of pistols as secondary, and a combat knife or small vibroblade mounted on one of the chest plates.

i was also thinking of using the Tacpad to interface with electronic locks, kind of like the Pip-Boy in Fallout 4, but security spikes are a pretty cool idea.

i eventually would like to make a set of "lock picks" to have on my belt or something as well, but that comes after i actually make the armor. But, yknow. if all else fails, i could blast a hole through a door with things that go bang  :P

Love me some things that go bang...

Yeah shotgun would certainly make sense. In a way, you could combine the two- if you're up against a door panel and the osik hits the fan when you open the door, you're going to want something short and mobile, overly powerful, and unnecessarily loud  ;D

So perhaps something similar to a sawed-off shotgun or two might be something to consider. Another thing might be Boba Fett's anti-security shivs, which are really easy to make and really nasty-looking. Excellent for a warrior who likes to pick locks lol

Can't forget the Pip-Boy gaunts either, that's a fantastic idea. I've seen a lot of armor threads with gauntlets using cheap-'n'-easy LCD displays, might want to take a peek at a couple of those threads and see what you can dig up.

I've seen those here before, only thing is you really have to mod it right to make absolutely sure it's unrecognizable as a smartphone. But yeah, that'd definitely work. If you go the display route I believe they're fairly cheap as well

Phones are hard to get approved. A few Mandos I know have suggested using a digital frame, like this keychain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L3NVQXI/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_5?colid=2FP1BNSK4LRI&coliid=I11APVGLTJC8UX

^^ That to. If you do use a phone, it really has to be heavily modded, which may not be worth it in the long run for the time and effort

I'm not home now, or I would post sketches.
For the shoulders I want something similar to the scout armor in halo 3

I will, of course, use an original design, but I wanted to give you guys kind of an idea of what I'm going for.

 Thoughts? Suggestions?

You may run into a CRL issue with those, I believe shoulders may have to be attached in some fashion to the flak vest. Of course, you could always flip them over so the long part points downward and attach them like that, I don't believe there would be any problems with that.

i had planned on making them a little shorter than the scout shoulders, and moving them up a bit so they dont look like oversized bicep plates

oh, and i have a bucket made, minus ear cups. pics to come later today.

Shoulder armour does not need to be attached to the flak vest. However it does need to cover the deltoid area and not the bicep, so just ensure they are raised far enough and they should be fine.

Helmets do not need the earcaps, however if you plan to leave them off, make sure they are completely off. Or if you want to just leave the rangefinder off that the place where the rangefinder normally sits is completely covered.

Minor update. Tried my hand at Pepakura and made a helmet. something looks a little off to me, though..

it could just be the fact that i left the top part of the visor off, but it seems lopsided or something. That, or i'm just being picky. i have to wait on the weather before i go trying to fiberglass it or anything, but progress is still progress. I'll (hopefully) be drawing up some nifty stuff to post soon, but since i lost the pen for my WACOM pad, it's gonna be a bit slow.

anyway, second opinions, tips, concerns, etc. are appreciated. thanks in advance.

Seems to me like the helmet is entirely too long for your face. Very much like a Deathwatch helmet. If that's what you want to go for, by all means go for it, but the WOF helmet templates always seemed much better by far to me. I am, however, a sucker for the classics  :P

It could also have been off if you were making it with regular printer paper, that could be easily solved by using card stock or heavier paper. I also transferred my paper templates to cereal box cardboard, then made my pep mockup with that and hot glue.

But if you do keep with that template, I'd take an inch or two off the bottom. The entire thing just seems disproportionately tall to me. If you do that though, make sure before and after you cut it still covers your entire face and head.

The only other thing I could think of is that you don't have earcaps on the pep helmet, which could make it look taller and thinner. That'd be a minor thing though

Definitely looks a little long, might be that throwing you off, as it seems to fit. Will definitely need ear caps of some form though, that will stop some of the elongated look.
Pep domes are often very slightly off - it's usually fixed when applying the filler as you can use the filler to even it all out.

I agree that the helmet is a little long. If you go to Fierfek's pepakura file development you can download a nice Boba helmet which I'm using for my pep helmet.

Not sure if its death watch or not, as it was just labeled "clone wars." I might try a different template, or see if I can make one some other way.

Yep that sounds about right, the Deathwatch helmet is a Clone Wars helmet, you can tell by the ends of the T-visor coming to points at the end instead of being squared off. You could certainly keep that aspect with a standard Boba helmet, just cut the pep files and fill it so that it comes to that point
