I have started my helmet build (bloody finally...), or rather the mock-up therefore. Dome is a skateboardhelmet.

(Didn't really think this through, shooting against a white background, did I...)

It was a bit wide (first pic), so I slimmed it by redoing the tape, but now I think it's kind of too tall. Again, since this is the mock-up this should be of little concern for the final product (hopefully).

So, vode, what do you think so far? Hopefully I'll be better at updating than my last few threads...

sounds like a great idea vode, what do you have planned for the back half, to assist in sitting in prone comfortably?

Yeah that'd be interesting, or make it shorter, but then you'd have to figure out how you'd protect the back of your neck hmm, maybe like a raised collar or something? Or you could do like a leather back half, but that may change the era your helmet is allowed in

I was gonna add regular backing, but now that you mention it, I should probably give it some thought.

Testing the helmet out, I can lie prone quite well as is, so a shorter back would be ideal. I Would have to remove material from the sides and possibly the front to make it look good. I have been thinking of wearing a shemagh-style scarf, so that could certainly help protect the back of my neck.

Would doing a leather Snowtrooper style mask that wrapped all the way around be too out there? Something that you could snap or magnetize in the front so you can drop it and show the T-visor, but wraps around the back permanently to allow you to keep it open like you have it. Not sure how that would affect the era though, as mentioned.

Oh i like that idea, very sniper like, itd probably add a cool extra layer of camo also. Since the more its broken up the better it blends in the the enviroment

Lol, didn't even notice that! What makes it snow is going to be the colour scheme. And since I live rather far north it would feel appropriate

I do like this idea, but I'm too scared to experiment too much before becoming OM, so I'm going to hold back on that until further notice. I'm also open for the idea of alternate kits :)

Yes, I was going to make my own, either straight up knitting a thing or sewing a shemagh-esque scarf.

As of now, I have added backing in the form of just a piece of paper and have cut it to an appropriate length, I will be adding a pic here in a sec.

EDIT: Okay, so "a sec" turned out to be closer to two weeks, sorry about that.

So obviously this iteration won't do, I am going to make a straighter line between the earpiece and the back

My jaw and chin aren't showing so this should be fine when I make the finished product

Looks good so far, only point would be the line from ear to back, but you mentioned that already, so I don't see anything else :)

(Please don't be mad at me if this is necroposting, but as far as I have gathered from the rules regarding that this should be fine since this is a relevant update. Again, please don't be mad, is only game)

I have now bought not-quite-sintra (different brand, probably good enough for my build) so I can finally start fixing my beskar'gam and buy'ce up. Now, this material is rather thick, 5 mm to be exact. Now I think this should be perfectly fine for the purposes of the general shape of the bucket, but then comes the topic of the brow and face plate. I got this gut-feeling that it will be too thick and make the whole thing a bit misshapen and weird.

Any thoughts on this?

I counter sunk my rivets in the build I'm doing right now for that single layer of 6mm. A little bondo and we're in business.

Awesomesauce, we'll se how I fare in about two weeks when I get back to where my tools are.

How flimsy is sintra as a material in the helmet? A future fellow clan mate of mine said it felt a bit unstable for anything other than greeblies, what do you, as an (I assume) experienced builder?

2-3 mm sintra can be quite brittle if it's dropped enough. If you feel it's weaker than you'd prefer you can always back it with a fiberglass layer in order to give it rigidity. I am an experienced builder yes. My preferred builds are helmets, and lots of them. I'm up to about 70+ helmets at this point. I only retain about 10-20 for my collection though.
