Vest and Waist Sash

I have a black flight suit, and am working on a blue vest.

Can I use the left over fabric from the vest to make a waist sash?

Per the CRLs, a sash is good. I'd just worry about color separation between the vest and the sash since they're made out of the same material. Typically the sash or girth belt meets the bottom of the vest, so using the same fabric for both might make it look like they are the same garment.
