Finished Build (OM App and Sniper Brigade)
« on: Sep 04, 2017, 03:54 PM »
Just finished up a long awaited photoshoot for my scratch build armor. Took long enough considering Harvey and work. But after all of that action and drama, finally got this outputted. I am applying through my Clan's pre app process and will hopefully get my stripes this time. Additionally, I took the advantage of satisfying the requirements for the Sniper brigade and adding a flamethrower to the kit. I know that snipers are specialized, but my specific build thrives off of the theme of "flames". Hopefully this is satisfactory to the brigade's requirements.

Needless to say, here are some photos from that shoot. I hope you all like them, and I hope this will get me OM and SB.

Probably should of stated this in the post. But these are NOT the App pics. Those were submitted to my Clan's pre app board. This is just a photoshoot that occurred alongside those pics.

Oh man I LOVE your rifle!  Did you build it yourself?

:o :o :o <--- me right now as well. Is that a DLT-19X? I LOVE the DLT-19 machine guns, they look so awesome.

Yep all hand built DLT-19x with some modifications from the battlefront model.

I used this video to make the DLT then got more creative with adding the "x"

Very good tutorial on building a scratch DLT.

Thanks for the comments

Oh... I watched that video, it was really well done! he actually shows you how to do it instead of fast forwarding everything.

This is looking great. That DLT-19 turned out fantastic. I subscribed to that channel you linked as for future reference. What a great find!

Very nice photoshoot. I'm glad you sent the pre-app pictures again. I really like the updates to your kit, Elan.

Hey everyone, thanks for all of the feedback.

I just got around to finally messing with my videos. Here's a little something that can't be shown on a still photo.

I have an electronically actuated rangefinder assembly that is controlled by an RF transmitter inside of my right gauntlet.

Also that DLT-19x has a built-in circuit that plays the sounds of the  rifle straight from Battlefront.

I hope you all like these "technological" enhancements.

Engineering is fun!

The two links below show off the animated gifs of the rangefinder.

These here are what is under the hood.

Aw snap, just figured out how to post gifs on the forum. This may be easier than clicking each link.

Truth! And I love the wireless-ness of the rangefinder control. Also, the DLT-19x sound is pretty dope, it's a nice metallic punch that speaks of a massive amount or power screaming out the barrel. A satisfying punch (but it's ROF isn't very satisfying, thus why I use the DLT-19 or TL-50, mebbe I should build on of those...).

Agreed. How did you put together the wireless servo? I have been looking to get one for my helmet as well but I am not the best with electronics. How easy/difficult was it to make?

Well, erm...

I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, and a lot of the stuff that I do can get a bit complicated.

However, if you are interested in getting to know electronics, I suggest looking at adafruit.com

There are a lot of tutorials on how circuits are made up and can inevitably aid you in making anything arduino based.

My specific circuit is arduino-based driven by two separate FLORA chipsets (one for the gauntlet and one for the helmet). Each chip has an RF transceiver connected that communicates through I2C comm (getting RF compatibility with I2C is extremely annoying).

Was it easy for me? Yes and No. Yes because electronic hardware is not too hard to understand, and once you establish/understand the principles of Ohm's and Kirchoff's Laws it gets real easy. No because programming I2C <-> RF leads to a lot of tiresome troubleshooting that eats time. But then again that is what engineering is all about.

Anyways here is a pic of the RF circuit used.

Looks complicated. I'm thinking of using a Raspberry Pi in my gauntlet, so we'll see how that goes...
