Roush's soft stuff wip

It's not much yet; but using the stickied girthbelt tutorial as a guide I went to Walmart and pieced together everything I need to build one for my kit sans dye. So I thought I'd get a running work log going as I plan on starting actual assembly in the next day or so.

Pieces I've acquired

All in all I've spent $9.99 with tax so far on the belt

Got around to starting my belt and here's what I've got so far

Step 1: measured myself and wrapped my washline cord around something that matched the length (in my case 2 stacked totes)

Step 2: duck taped the line together & slipped it off the boxes. (In my case the cord got tangled coming off so I cut it in half, straightened them out and applied duck tape to both sides on both ends

Thanks alot, hopefully the rest of it will look good too

But here's another shot of the next step.
3. I used 2.5" wide red striped burlap I found in Hobby Lobby's home decor trim section to make some backing strips to help hold the individual lines together. I'll continue to lay strips down the remainder of the belt. Then further anchor the strands with another length of burlap overlapping the strips that runs the entire length of the belt

4. Here's the long strip that runs the length of the belt that helps to anchor the vertical straps

5. I forgot to get a picture before I covered them; but I looped the elastic through the buckles and machine sewed it to the belt. After that I glued more burlap down to hide the straps

Got more soft stuff today. My flight suit is a set of red kap action back coveralls, my gloves are mechanics gloves I've had that I'll de-logo, and my boots are from funtasma and I currently use them for my swing pilot. And yes I know I need to hem the arms and legs to start

Took my flight suit to my seamstress and got measurements to shorten the arms & legs and take it the hips and in-seams

Doing a little more work on my gloves. I removed all the logos so they'd be approvable

Thanks man, the girthbelt was off another OM's tutorial and with dye im up to about $15 total on it so I'm very happy. For my flak vest I'm following a tutorial on the dented helmet forums to make one with the same seamstress that tailored my flight suit

I've been sitting on my girthbelt for too long and in my most recent flurry of activity finally got around to dyeing it and my gloves

By the time things were out of the dye bath there wasnt enough light for good photos so I'll get some once they're washed

So the belt took a little damage from the wash machine (I forgot to set it to gentle) but weathering aside heres the finished belt
