I had been debating on building this ever since I saw Syko Voss' build on his carbine version of this blaster but never found the motivation to entirely scratch build a blaster. Fast forward to a few days ago and I got asked via Instragram on if I would commission it for a guy working on his Boba Fett 1313 kit. Despite my perhaps better judgement, I said yes and now here we are, scratch building a potentially complicated blaster with nothing but hand saws, a heat knife, and a dremel. Feel free to follow along on this crazy train of a WIP as I am sure I will have plenty of learning opportunities along the way. The plan is to essentially build 2 at once, if I have enough materials laying around. One for the client and one for myself which I will then attempt to mold and cast once I get the hang of the process on a few simpler items. Wish me luck and feel free to chime in with any potential tips/tricks. The craziness starts this week!  lol

Depending on how you're planning to build it // materials to use, that grip and trigger will almost certainly be perfectly matched with an airsoft or other form of toy Luger pistol. Building the gun past that however I'm not sure on what to use as far as replica parts instead of building your own lookalikes

Yeah the grip is definitely reminiscent of a Luger. I will however be pretty much building this from the ground up so that detailed/textured grip part is most likely going to be irritating to make, to say the least haha. Until then, I have some progress photos of this build! After a little bit of trial and error I finally got my template to the correct size. I have essentially been able to finish the scope, still waiting on a scope flip cover piece to arrive in the mail, and I have also completed the barrel. I hope to be starting on the grip and blaster base tomorrow. I am still thinking doing the grip and body as 1 piece, the top rail, and the bottom rail portion each as their one pieces but we shall see.

Scope - this is a copper coupling, pvc, part of a broken flashlight, and sintra for now. I am looking forward to getting to scope flip cover attached when it arrives.

Maybe I'm wrong but it looks like that might be a heavily modified A-180. Either way, I look forward to this build!

Glad to hear it! To play devils advocate... Or was the A180 based off of this version of a blaster that never got released and they wanted to put such a sweet design to use. Food for thought!! Lol

Update time! I built the base for top rail mount (ended up cutting the slot on the bottom to deep and had to attach some 3mm sintra to fix it up), the back 'hatch' part that slots over top of the rail and cut out the base for that will be the scope mount. Next step for these pieces is to sand the underside in order to groove them so that they rest on top of the barrels evenly and without a gap. The plan is to put sandpaper on top of a same size diameter pipe as the barrel and use that to sand in the groove in order to make sure it's the same size.



Next major step is cutting out the handle and blaster body! Stay tuned

10/11/2018 update - I traced the handle outline onto an inch thick board of (cedar or pine?) and got to work. I used an electric jigsaw to cut out the majority of the pattern and then used a dremel with a sanding bit to get the finer details. For some reason the wood had some issues with wanting to splinter/peel up in real small sections but that should be pretty fixable with some Bondo or spot filler.

Once I got the handle/base cut out and sanded, I added grooves to the base so that the barrel fit snuggly without leaving gaps on the sides. I used a dremel to get the depth right and then made sure it was the correct size using 60 grit sander paper wrapped around the same size diameter PVC pipe.

Thanks vod and nope. I will be wrapping the handle in sintra to mimic the 2 different textures seen on the concept designs. So cutting those designs into sintra is going to be a blast....... lol

I have a slow going build at the house- making it out of a Jyn Erso A180 blaster and some spare parts from other blasters.
It’s probably my favorite of all the Fett blasters.
I know you said you wanted to build from scratch, but just as an FYI there are some  Luger P08 replacement grips on eBay for around $20. (Plastic Replica grips)
I am all about scratch built, but I still prefer real grips and optics whenever possible.

Thanks and yeah, the 1313 blaster definitely has a pretty sweet look to it. As for the grip... Using a Luger grip would be great if only the handle of the 1313 blaster was all 1 pattern. Unfortunately it is 2, a diamond pattern and horizontal stripes on the back. Trying to make this as accurate as possible and unfortunately there does not appear to be any easy fixes lol

Thanks for the compliments and feedback everyone! I have an update on the build so far.

I began drawing/designing the detail design pieces and have been cutting them out of 3mm sintra. Some detail screws have also been added to a few parts.

More detail pieces cut. I slight f'ed up the piece on the left where the circular part goes. It doesn't fit as flush as I would like it to, leaves a little gap on the left hand side unfortunately, so I am going to be making another one. The little switch there will also be movable once I do a little bit of sanding to the sintra piece on top of it. The barrel tubes have also been glued together and it is currently drying (photo not included) However, it's getting there!

Wow! It has been a pretty long time since I have posted updates here. My bad. I have made a lot of progress since the end of October. Enjoy! My apologies in advance if this jumps around a bit but I couldn't remember which photos I uploaded from my phone and I also don't want to dump to many pictures in here all at one time so I attempted to pick and choose progress photos ha.

Below is the scope mount. The base is  piece of wood that was the same width as the top rail and I cut 2 pieces of sintra out, glued them where I wanted them, and then attached them more permanently with those screws. How the scope mount is currently, it slides neatly over top of the top rail and can be adjustable where it rests.


Here I added more greebs to the blaster and cut out holes to insert those 2 LED lights


I added a few more greebs (the yellow bits near the energy clip) and also drilled out a hole in the handle for the ring placement area.


Added the front under barrel section (in hingsight I probably should have made that all one piece with the body/handle but live and learn!)

Front end:


Here I began glueing the barrel onto the base and also attached some barrel side bits made from wood. To attach, I drilled holes in both the barrel and on the underside of the wood pieces which I inserted small metal rods into. The rods were glued in place and then I added more glue around the rod/underside of the wood bits and attached them to the barrel.


Blaster primed to see what imperfections still needed to be fixed.


I can hold it now!! Added more detail pieces, the white parts on the underpart of the barrel were a pain to get even. Whenever I heated up the parts in order to form them to the barrel one edge would warp slightly and it wouldn't line up properly. After a couple of reheat attempts and cutting new pieces, I finally got it to fit right.

All together it feels pretty sturdy (hopefully) and I am excited that I am nearing the end of the build. Next step after finishing this is figuring out how to mold it and make some copies!

lol Thanks for the positive feedback everyone and I did indeed haha  I will be practicing on the vibro dagger I made and then once I am comfortable with the process will attempt the blaster. Current plan is to mold and cast the base blaster by itself and the scope and mount will be it's own separate piece as once I have it molded and casted an actual scope cap can be attached to it.
