I cut the thighs down a little over a half inch all the way around and shaped them for a better fit. Knees and shins as well

Got a coat of paint on everything that is ready for it. I think I need a second coat, then a light sanding, black wash and clear coat.






Tomorrow I start the jetpack build.

The weather hasn't been very accommodating for building the last couple of weeks so the jetpack has been on hold. That will change this weekend as we're getting some true SoCal weather and I plan to get the jetpack built. Look for more updates soon.

Got the rough assembly of the jetpack done. I still need to fill in the gaps around the rocket and thruster openings and do some body work. But this major piece is well under way and I feel a lot better about this costume going forward.



I also got the rest of the base paint on the helmet. It still needs all the weathering and detail work but like the jetpack, now that the main paint is down I feel better moving forward.

Jetpack was a major hurdle for me too, it is a great feeling to get that piece together.

Helmet tattoo shapes look good on the dome, but I presume you're going back in with black to separate the cheek ones into the two separate "lightning bolts"?

Is the grey you have used on the dome and back of the helmet an undercoat? Or you are using this colour as the main coat? My understanding is this area of the helmet should all be black (hence asking if grey undercoat to weather through black to it)

I'm going off the 501st CRL as its the only one with any detail (RL just says "match reference"). So the helmet is mostly dark gray as I've painted it. I will be applying a heavy black wash to all the armor to darken everything. And yes the split on the red cheek paint will be there as part of my detailing. I goofed it when I painted it and didn't want to mask it all again just for that strip.

I think the back and dome are supposed to be the same color as the cheeks; black with gray weathering. In any reference I'm seeing they are the same color.

That was my thought too that the grey is a sort of undercoat that, with some strategic weathering, could be used to get that fade effect on the helmet.

Otherwise, I'm seeing that the dome and back panels should be black like the cheeks with some weathering.

Are you planning on doing the blue paint showing through as well?

I ask as thats mine and its a black base, there isn't any grey

I've also painted Hik'aari's which is 501st cleared and that doesn't have grey either 



Hik'aari and the canon team know what they are talking about as they have studied the build allot, especially Hik'aari as he was going to be the CRL for 501st except its just never come about yet.

Spent some time digging into screencaps and I think you are right about the helmet being black. Dangit. Guess I’ll be taping and painting it again.

Got the helmet repainted the more accurate black.



I also got the jetpack mostly finished. I had to reset the center cover so it sat flush against the PVC tube. Then I filled in the gaps. I just need to sand it all smooth, put a coat of primer on it and see what else needs to be done.

Now that DST is in effect and we get an extra hour of daylight in the evening, and the weather is looking to cooperate, I can get the armor finished and ready to mount. I just need to weather and black wash everything. That should be happening this week, along with construction of my vest and neckseal.

I also got the girth belt sewn and the ammo belt cut and sized. I want to reinforce the vacformed plates with some 3mm sintra before I start painting them. That will be happening this week as well.

And finally my flightsuit should be modified by weeks end as well. I have a lot on my To-Do list but its starting to come together and I'm getting excited to get it done.

The flightsuit fairy visited last night and sewed the long sleeves onto my flightsuit shirt. So that's done. I just need to get my vest done. I want to wait until that is ready before I do the finish work on the armor, just in case there are any adjustments or trimming that needs to be done.

Got some work done this past weekend.

Vest is done and ready for weathering. Its hard to see in the photo but the vest ends just below the ab plate. Also the armor isn't in its final positions yet but will be properly aligned.




I was also able to get the jetpack all prepped and painting started. Should have the paint finished tonight.
