Crusader Era WIP (First Kit, New)
« on: Sep 09, 2018, 01:24 PM »
Hi all! I'm Ridil and I'm new here. I am just starting on my first kit and wanted to do something different from the Modern Era. I'm basing my Mando off of Rohlan Dyre, but with my own twist. I've been having trouble finding armor templates or ideas as I am a girl and a bit smaller. My armor material of choice is Sintra. Here's an idea to start from (hoping the Imgur link works):

I have a ForgeProps Demagol Helmet already, however, I am not sure how to put the front and back together without there being a seam in the middle of the helmet. I also have no idea what the safest way is to cut a hole for the visor without damaging the ABS:

I also have several weapons pre-made from a previous incarnation of my Mando costume. I have a carbine, a small pistol, a kal dagger, and a template for a standard beskad sword:

For the soft parts, I have a two piece black Under Armour set. I was looking at boots, and I found some pretty cool Ren Faire style boots from a local business. They are expensive, but I don't know if they would be appropriate since the laces are on the side:

That's all I have for now. I am hoping to get this all done by the end of the year. Any of your ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi ridil, let's see if w can't answer some of those questions to start your concept is late crusader rather than modern (that would be jango/boba) now your demagol..... handsome bucket by the way needs a little trim round the edges to clean up the join. It's suggested by the maker that the back should be permanently affixed to your balaclava and the front should remain removable. The suggested attachment method of front to back is to use rare earth magnets (these puppies are a lot stronger than you might think.... i've used them in my gauntlets and can attest to that.) The best way to cut your visor would be using a dremel with the cutting disc/wheel attachment. I would suggest drawing your visor shape onto a piece of paper first so you can adjust it's position until you're happy with it. Also before you apply any primer or paint give the whole thing a light buffing with some fine grade sand paper to key the surface... this will promote the adhesion of the primer to the bucket and will reduce the chances of it peeling or being pulled of by any masking tape you may use. There may be other methods of attachment but this is the one suggested by forge props. Hope this helps. ;) your concept looks great as do your boots. Keep asking questions and good luck with your build.  :D

So I've done some research over the past couple of days and decided on how to fix the seam in my helmet. There is a type of glue I can make out of ABS mixed with acetone, which dries quickly and sands nicely. I am currently awaiting a sheet of ABS that I ordered for practicing with. I also found some really nice Russian ammo pouches from WWII that I can use:

If anyone is interested, I got them from an Army/Navy store in Texas. The website is omahas.com and they have tons of stuff like flight suits, pouches, etc.

While working on the helmet for the past couple of weeks, I figured that I would save money and Sintra if I just bought a sword for my Crusader. I do realize that most beskad swords are single-edged, however, I did find a few double edged swords while looking through other forum posts. Keeping with the short blade of the original beskad, I found this:

I am thinking that I could paint a little Mythosaur skull right where the hilt meets the blade, seeing as the tusks are already on there. I am not sure if this is acceptable for the costume standards, but I am researching the topic.

Hey all, it's been a while, but here's what I've completed so far.  I've got a full armor set, so here's a few pics.

Here's some pics of my helmet, which was one of my main concerns, but seemingly turned out fine.

All of the designs, excluding the Crusader symbol, were hand drawn by me. I reference SWTOR for most of them, but they are all original. The issue I am having now is that the leather straps are not holding my thigh and knee plates in place. They keep slipping down my leg, as I am wearing Under Armor. My question is, how/what am I supposed to add to the plates to keep them stable? I've tried the thin, non-skid stuff you put under carpets but they seem to bulk up the plates. If the plates are too bulky, I cannot clip the armor plates on. Here's some pics for reference. All plates are magnetized.

Any help or ideas will be appreciated! Thanks.
