Mavik Arctic Armor

I started  work on the armor for my new set. The plates are steel plates I had from an old kit that are the same size as my primary kit. I also received the snowtrooper shoulder bells and  knee armor. For gauntlets I will be repainting the set of Aprilstorm ones from my primary kit since I am receiving new gauntlets for that set of armor.

I stripped the old paint off of my plates today and put down the base coat for these plates. I will be weathering this set with some acrylic washes and airbrush but I don't intend for it to have the typical paint chipping down to the metal

Nice work so far. Looks like the older paint came off clean. And if it didn't, any that shows through can just be more weathering.

I like the shoulder bells. I plan on printing first order ones later for my kit.

+1 on the shoulders bells!
Once I decided to do an arctic kit I knew I wanted snowtrooper shoulder bells.

A bit delayed on the update but I have gotten more work done on the armor. I painted the arrows on the chest plates to stick with a similar design to my primary kit.  Then the next part was a bit of an experiment but I am pretty happy with how it turned out even though it is very subtle.  I new I wasn't going to have exposed metal on this kit but I still want it to have that age and history to it. I used the toothpaste weathering method but instead of a completely different color I airbrushed two slightly different whites on top of it.  My thinking is that will give it the look that it has still been through a lot however it is constantly being touched up.

Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of the same knee I weathered.

I think the picture above demonstrates the differences in the white paint the best. Again it is very subtle but it is still there after some more weathering.

Finally I began some weathering. I used some washes and a very little bit of airbrush, and now I am using small amounts of oil paint for some details and to help keep it consistent with the helmet weathering.

I like the arrows on the chest. That’s a nice touch to carry over.

You can see the evolution just in the stripes and paint!

Long past time for an update, I have all the hard parts weathered and assembled at this point.  Unfortunately the weathering is getting a bit washed out in the photos, but I don't want to do too much more so it doesn't look too dark in person.

I also got the strapping done for the cod and knees. For the knees I glued some snap plates into them.  To do the cod I used a method I have typically done in the past. I cut a belt  and snap and mounted the belt to the cod.

UPDATE: We mounted the plates to the vest unfortunately that still needs a bit of work. All of the plates under the collar seem to be sitting a bit low to me (sorry about the poor lighting). I also will probably rework the girth belt to something that is a bit more substantial. I didn't realize the kama was coming to far around but I do like how everything came together for the legs. I also think the shoulders need to be brought back a bit.
