Thank You!

The final version of my flight suit.  I didn't realized how dirty that mirror was until after I took the pictures.  I will be cleaning tomorrow.

Awesome work on the flightsuit! Keep up the good work!

Thank you!  With all the holiday's I haven't had much time to work on this one.  SO much research goes into every piece, I'm dreading the painting.  I know it will be worth it in the end.

Superb job on the flight suit!

Thanks Rilal!  Your continued support helps me keep going on this one.

Update!

I heat formed my plates!  Well the collar, chest, ab and top backplate.  I'll need a second set of hands for the lower backplate but my clan has an armor party coming up so I'll see about getting some help there.  I'm sure someone will be game to lend a hand.  I also patterned, cut and sanded my shoulder plates.  They still need to be heat formed but they are ready.

Apparently I never posted when I cut out the plates, but yeah that was done weeks ago.

So I've missed a few updates here!

I did a bit more fine tuning of forming the plates

Another day I pulled out my belt blanks and patterned my thigh armor

Because of my shape I had to keep checking that the belts were level as I was taking measurements for the front loin and but flap pieces.  Apparently I need almost three more inches in the back to get the two to hang at the same level.

Another day I cut, sanded and heat formed the thighs

Today I actually sanded the labels off the outside of the boot (No pics yet).

Next thing I plan on working on for this kit is actually patterning out the loin/butt flaps

Looking great! Glad you're back working on this

Thanks!  It kinda got tabled as I had picked up more duties in the clan and then was finishing up my second personal kit.

So update, I patterned out the front and back flap.

After staring intently at pictures of Ursa I came to the conclusion that it was roughly thirds to get the overall sizing right.  So after taking my personal measurements I divided them into thirds to get the over all shape.

Then I traced it out.  I made the pattern for the bigger one and drew  a line on my pattern for where the cut off would be for the shorter one.

Then of course I had to test it before cutting into my nice leather so...scraps it its!

Then a quick test fit. I only cut out the one that was the longer size for the back.

As you can see it seems to be about right.  I still need to test it with my thigh plates to ensure that its the right width and length as it should be just a bit shorter then the thigh plates.

Front was too long but I knew it would be since I cut the long back one.

Long time no post in this thread.  I had cut out all the pouches at an armor party and the actual leather for the front and back flaps.  I then proceeded to set them aside as I started a new job.  Slowly but surely I got more work done on this.

Then I while later I got the holsters cut out.

I learned how to use a v-gouge and a beveller.

Afterwards I taught myself how to dye leather.

I patterned out the straps for the front and back from the reference material.  When looking at the pictures the front straps are clearly thicker closer to the belt in the front.  When comparing it to the buckle they are thicker then the width of them.  I might have them  little to thick right now.  I need to try them on to see how it compares on me.

Do I tend to work on things in fits and starts?  The answer would be yes.

Dyed the straps for the tie downs for the holsters

Added the little keeper to the back of the holster for the strap to slide through

Then I chose to do magnets for the flap closures.  I added some glue and felt and went to work.

And you can't see them from the side so success!

Now to decided if I want to do the yellow strip out of leather or a bit of Sintra

Looks great! Much kudos on doing a Canon character, always hard. I'll definitely be using the chestplate as inspiration while I pattern out my chestplate.

Guiltily looks at the date of the last post.  Guess I should post some progress pics yup.

So what has happened here?

Well, lets start with the oldest stuff first.  I conferred with another merc about how to go about making the buckles for this.  We conferred and I took some measurements so we could figure out how big it needed to be.

I got all the edges of all my leathers burnished with beeswax.

I got some leather paints to test different yellows

Painted the stripes onto the pouches. Took three/four layers to get the stripe to show up the correct yellow.

Then a while later I got the flaps and back belt painted yellow

Front panel and front holster strap test

And test fit with armor

I also trimmed down the thighs another 1/4"

I sewed snaps onto the flightsuit but didn't take any pics of that.
