Mandalore the Preserver
« on: Mar 24, 2012, 11:53 PM »
I know that I am new to the forums, but I have really been ramping up in costume/helmet/armor creation over the last few months. I have aquired a few tools, and learned how to use a few more.

My goal is to create a completely Canon costume of Mandalore the Preserver fromt he Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. I will gladly be posting my progress as this moves along;

Current Model is a direct export from the Game files, processed into the Pepakura Designer Program and unfolded.

My mediums will be the following:
-Pepakura - 110lb Cardstock
-Resin coat, interior and exterior
-Resin Jelly exterior
-Bondo Final smooth
-Tinted Plexiglass from US Plastic (Gray)

Processes
-Orbital Sanding
-Wet Sanding
-Table Saw ( For the Visor Cut)

Progress so far:
-Design scaled to proper size
-Design Printed and Cut Out
-Helmet Assembled

Current Step:
-Fiberglass coating the model ( Will Provide Pictures Soon)

Good work Vod. I don't think I would have the patience to do that.

As an added note, I had to cut away a portion of the inner respirator I had added in, so that my chin could rest forward and the helmet could seat right. As you can see in the picture it is not fully centered on my head

Latest update on Bondo and shaping. I am working with the front of the helmet first. From the side it need s a bit of work, but the shape should correct a bit when it is tacked to the front visor. I will be ordering the plastic for it soon.

I am working from the Top down on this costume, I have the collar printed out and partially cut, after the helmet it will be glassed and bondoed as needed. Feedback is appreciated. The right portion of the under eye visor needs to be cut away a bit more to match the right and the helmet. THe side view was taken before the cut away on the front. I will add more photos once I have ground away.

Looking good! I don't think I've ever actually seen one of these at a con, so you may be the first!

Looks pretty good. I'm excited to see where this goes. :) I do have a couple critiques though. The dome is still a bit too angular for my tastes. And for the respirator, the bottom looks a little warped to me. I feel like it might be easier to get the right look with a small length of PVC pipe. Just my two cents though. You're definitely off to a good start.
