Looking at the top picture now, it looks like one the Mantis sniper rifle from Mass Effect.

Now that you bring that up, I'd like to counter and say that it looks more like the Viper.

You're right.  The Mantis was the starter one that was boxy.  The Viper looked more like an SVD which made me prefer it.

Yeah, same here.  My main pet peeve with the Mantis was that it had that odd curve in the middle that felt out of place.

As am I!  :D

But back on topic, I got a sink cut out from that sheet, and it's looking like it's the perfect size for the gun.  Here's a few pictures of where I think it should go.  I'm leaning towards having it be on the right side, as if it were functional it would obscure the ammo indicator light and run the risk of burning your arm  on the left side.  So, if it wont go on the left I figured I'd set down a circular greeblie in its place.

On the right side:

On the left side:

After I get the reciever extension made and attached I think it'll finally be ready for bond-ing and painting :D

Thanks vod!

The greeblies have been attached now, here's a picture of me holding the pew rifle.  Sorry about the quality, my real camera ran out of batteries.

It's finally complete!

Note how I can remove the forward barrel segment.  This feature is for ease of storage and cramped conventions that call for more of a carbine than a full length rifle.

Good call!  I'm going to do something very similar with my Verp for the same reason.  A removable extended barrel to add to my sniper look.

Vor'e!  It'd be a bit tricky to do it the same way I did with a verp though, I assume you're just going to have interchangeable barrels?

Kinda.  A pipe the same caliber as the one on there with a segment that fits snugly inside to keep it on the pre-existing barrel.

That sounds like it should work pretty well.
