Gave up on magnets keeping them closed. I have something similar to this on my old Boba Fett gauntlets (I know it's not accurate, don't care). For a mando, does this look passable, perhaps with a little paint?

That should work fine, as you said I would paint it with your gauntlets so it looks more as if it was designed that way and not added on after the fact.

It's always good to have something that's different, AND looks good. Now what would look cool is if you recessed the area where the tabs sit, so the whole piece is flush with the surface when they're on you.
