Changed my approach to the dent, may need a rethink for the whole area
More detail needs to be added and refinement

Here's abit more on the blaster scar

(http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh619/beskysupercat/image_118.jpeg) (http://s1254.photobucket.com/user/beskysupercat/media/image_118.jpeg.html)

I still need to get it to blend into rest of helmet paint, may need to add more silver then try paint it so it looks realistic. Maybe a border of fine carbon scoring then to paint
What do you guys think

Looks amazing.   For the blaster scar, you might get a more realistic look if you paint it "charred" and drybrush the silver, that way it would look like it charred and the raised surfaces have rubbed the charring off a bit over time?

Thanks vod, I've been thinking of how to blend it, I'll see if I can do what you've suggested

we are working on a project and tried to figure out how to do a blaster scorch that looked like it had been there a while and that is how we are going to try it.   we're going to paint it normal, then weather the whole thing, then a black smudge where the blaster hit, then drybrush the base color over it to get the raised areas like the scorching has been rubbed off over time, then weather THAT so it doesn't look like fresh paint over the scorch.   it's more work, but I think it's the right general direction.

Thanks heaps vod, I'll try what youve said

Looks good. Back panels look great.
Have you considered a blackwash of the blaster acar? If you take a utility knife or xacto blade and score the dent like a boba, a black wash will cling to the scratches and really make the dent pop. If you need to, you can touch up the highlights after the wash.

Bit the bullet today and ordered a jetpack from nme props. I've got plenty of time to sort out my colours. Got some ideas on upgrading the accessories on the pack. Will need to work out how to attack it to the back plate

If you're gonna do it right, pick up a jetpack harness and some jp hardware. Otherwise there are budget options that can work as well. I love my harness. I can easily have anyone just lift it off the hooks whenever I get tired. The trade-off is that it takes two people to suit up.

Did you go with the rocket pack, or the arena pack from NME?  I've got both and love them.  Great product.

You probably saw my DC-15A and changed your mind.  ;)  Either way, I look forward to seeing some pics!

It's NME. It'll take some time, but the product is solid.

I will hit everything imagine able with my DC. That's just the nature of it. A shorter rifle/carbine/blaster might work out better if you don't want to be a walking weathering machine (your kit and others).

Looks good, vod.

I made my own GirthBelt as well for my first kit. I ended up sewing all of the ropes together, but they ended up coming apart over time (10 invasions in, maybe?).

For additional stability I would recommend sewing some backing on the belt for additional stability. I wish my homemade one had this, as well as my one from MOW.

I just used a meat tenderizer on a rock from my garden to get a really nice tattered look as well as a blowtorch to scorch the edges a bit followed by some black chalk and being crumpled up on my basement floor for a week.  ;D

What type of glue did you use?  Depending on what you kind, it may come loose once you hit it with some water.  I ended up just sewing my girth-belt together.

no luck with the imperial customs......so now i need to work on another pistol, dont know how it works as i could get a e-11 in from doopy doos....that was in kit form though. i do like the look of a de-10, might look for a capgun bushranger style or similar to a colt navy.....something
on a positive note though, my jetpack came in this week, ill post a pic when i get home. its a nme boba style. ive started sourcing parts to upgrade from dakota on tdh, getting toe spikes from him as well, waiting on cape to come in, hopefully not to long . ive got to get organised, lots of bits and pieces everywhere

So WTH .. ?  is the package just sitting there ? Is it getting Sent back to me ?  :o

Is there someone else over there that I can send Replacements to , then they can get them to You .. I know for a fact that I've sent the same blaster to another
member in Australia .... That Sucks bad ... I'm sorry and will work to get you what you paid for ...  >:(

Oddly enough, the shin tools intimidated me the most, but when it came down to it, they're really easy!

You should be able to knock them out no problem.

Thanks vod, I'd gotten a set ages ago and they were pretty osik. I was reading some posts on dented helmet and saw some parts used are still made, or close to it
I though Bugger it I'll source these pieces. I'll research some more. The weather here is getting better so dome painting can go ahead
I tried sourcing a nut to go on jetpack beacon at local hardware joint.....no luck. Only hard metric or imperial with course thread, I need a imperial with fine.....another job for next week.
I need to cut the hatch on the jetpack, then work out a way to attach the thrusters and add support
Still waiting on the toy Mauser to turn up......ill try convert to Luke's pistol or a power 5...... I'm a little obsessed with these two at moment. I'm not a big fan of hans dl44. For main weapon I want to make a variant of e11 or something like the death troopers have

The day's weather wasn't so bad so after mowing the lawn, I skipped (for now) cutting the hatch plate on the back and opted to paint the body and rocket of the jetpack

No hurry vod. Purgatory is .......Miners Rest, Victoria, Australia. Real anal state
I've got doopy doos kits in no worries, had issues with a dc10 from ConDar Ward......I couldn't get that one
Any plans on the comMando bucket

ComMando bucket mold should be ready by the end of the year (fingers crossed). I haven't had issues with australia if you fill out and send the customs forms with the package(I don't recall the number off hand). It's a little extra leg work before shipping, but it can be done. ConDar's was likely an issue because it was not a kit, but who knows. Victoria and I think Queensland are the stingiest about that from what I remember.

Painting the jetpack similar colours to fetts RoTJ, just started with the yellow, needs more coats to be solid, as its drying it getting darker. Initially it appeared to be a bit bright, not sure if it's same shade as RoTJ, after I'm finished with yellow I may try getting a more accurate colour

(http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh619/beskysupercat/image_12.jpg) (http://s1254.photobucket.com/user/beskysupercat/media/image_12.jpg.html)

The ROTJ JP yellow requires multiple coats to achieve the opaque bold yellow of the canon prop. There are close colors available in rattlecan and most model paints.

Thanks vod, initially I was thinking of having orange where RoTJ is blue, then felt it was too much orange, I wasn't too happy with the weathering. I was thinking of green and orange, or grey and orange.
I was also thinking of a jetpack that was off the shelf and issued to the protectors, or maybe colours of a specific unit as boba had two packs. Was also told that jango had blue and yellow. I thought bugger it I'll go with it's an off the shelf job. Basically I was undecided and Jett Drexel pointed out about jangos being like rotj. I liked the yellow colour on fetts too

Orange may make a return on one gauntlet

Mi'ix did a slight twist on the classic Blue, yellow, white, red paintup.  I have to say that those colors scream protector to most.

i only ask about the girth belt bacause if it's natural fiber it should take a dye nicely... if you get problems with it taking colour then RIT do a range of dye's for synthetic materials (readily available on e-bay) as for colour if you're still undecided how'bout purple?

looks pretty good as it is mate i'm assuming you'll be weathering it as well which will darken it. you could also try soaking it in coffee, gives it a natural brown disscolouration without obliterating the original colour. ;)

The girth belt you have looks like the exact same one I used for my kit as well. That thing apparently despises dye. I had an incredibly difficult time getting it to keep it's color and mine turned out about the same maroonish-red color as yours. In order to get it the color I wanted, I actually ended up applying spray paint to it in order to try to match it more with the rest of the red from my kit and it turned out rather well with the 'base' coat of the girth belt already being a darker red from the dye.

Nah I haven't done anything in photobucket, just add pics as I upload, no reorganising at all
All my pics are gone, my photobucket library is empty, no files at all

Small update, nothing big. Used a different dye on girthbelt, this one was for Synthetic materials, I choose light brown. I might try a darker brown or try adding red to it.

G'day mate, I used a brand called  "idye poly" , I also used vinegar and salt, put in a pot and boiled it for about an hour....it's alittle but dark, I might try to lighten it

Post by: jett drexel on Jun 23, 2017, 08:45 PM
was it wet  in the photo? if so it will lighten considerably as it dries. plus be careful cause every time you put it through a process it degrades slightly an the last thing you need is for it to start dissintergrating. lol

From memory it wasn't dripping wet, maybe a bit damp, it is alittle lighter dry but not much lighter

How do like Mow's gauntlets? Are you going to fiber glass yours on the inside? I hear some people do over on the TDH,.
I just ordered a set of his ROTJ ones before he gets out of business,.

I've heard of people fiber glassing them to help reinforce them. I've also heard of people fiber glassing ABS to reinforce that as well. After many years of trooping I find it unnecessary and I tend to "over build".  So I'll reserve judgement when I get them. I love shapeways products! I've got some of them on my TIE pilot buckets. I may get some for my gauntlets as well.
With my ROTJ set they will be green this time with similar custom detailing like I did my red ones now. I just wanted some larger more movie accurate style  gauntlets, my boy will get my old ones for his Mando.

Completely agree. The time, effort and attention to detail you have spent on this is something I can only hope to inspire into some of the recruits we get. It shows that with the right push the possibility to create an outstanding kit is there.

That's true about the possibility of creating an outstanding kit. set a picture in your mind of what you like or want....that's the standard to reach, keep learning or trying until you reach that level.
I look at the kit....look for the story. The weathering, layers of paint, dirt and other stains all come together to compliment one another help bring your kit to life
There was an award that someone got on here afew years ago " just walked off set" that stuck in my mind....that's the bare minimum standard to reach. I'd like to create a believable kit

I wish I could store and distribute this thought process and approach. The weathering does indeed tell a story, how it has accumulated, where it builds up. What environments has your character been in, what parts of the body will touch/brush/bump into things and which are protected by natural curves and valleys in the armor.

yeah, I think half my approach is a bit of a result from obsessive compulsive disorder.

ROTJ Red would probably work, but the BRLs talk about the only tertiary colors being allowed sparingly are light blue, purple, gray, or white.  In that sense, purple would be the best bet.

IMO, the purple would give you some pop and take you away a little bit from the Fett copy and paste like me.

Agreed, allot of people miss the subtle points of the accessories and soft parts, its all about going that little extra.

Also agree that the leg strap needs tightening, but remember to give a couple of fingers under it for slack or the leather will stretch over time ;)

For the duel blasters question there is a protector called Fenn Shysa (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fenn_Shysa) that has Jango like twin blasters, so there is justification for it  ;)
Second on lower back would be a Marshal call, not seen one stowed like that in references

Really great job, dude!

Your soft part test is REALLY on point. I especially enjoy the weathering around the ankles. I recently washed my flightsuit and I need to re-weather it so I'll be taking a page out of your book for sure.

As inconsistent as the references are, I would shy away from having a blaster on your lower back and stick with the drop holster or just a belt style holster almost like the Nemrod holster on ESB Boba. Speaking from my experience, you're already going to have a lot of stuff going on back there and I can't even reach that far back with my kit stuff on to begin with!

Thanks mate, I'm currently watching Return of the Jedi, next up is close encounters of the third kind....🤔 I wonder if I can replicate the flashing light sequence at the end. Just in case, I may be wandering around the bush at night in my kit, bit of luck I might run into a UFO offering me a ride, and if so I hope it's to a galaxy far far away, and not a intergalactic enema 😳

They are, I'm surprised how light they are. Made of aluminium, some reason I thought they'd be a little heavier. The gauntlet darts are sharp too 🤕

Think I'll work on these first

Yeeeeeeees! Keep at it vod! You work is awesome and exactly! You can always make an official Protector kit and then add on those extra bits that you love. That way you can have a normal version and a Mythos version of your kit as well  ;) haha

I was thinking of removing the bottom and middle bits, add scorch to the top right mark
Title: Re: Brett's protector wip
Post by: jett drexel on Nov 24, 2018, 12:36 AM
Don't remove em just some heavy carbon scoring around the dents should balance it out you could also add a bit of rust to the bits that are bothering you this will stop them standing out so much and also gives the damage the appearance that it's happened over time instead of all at the same time.

Weathering on the shoulder bell is looking great. As for gauntlet colors, I vote 1 green and 1 red.

I like the idea of the mismatched belt pouches. :)
I got a hottoys deluxe fett the other week, the one that had pre pro stuff with empire fett. I saw the mismatched pouches and thought it looked cool. Hard part is Trying to match the red, Scarlett is to pink, needs some orange in it I think

Thanks mate, that sounds like a good combination, allow me to mix the colours up a fair bit. Need to work out how to make them more different...different from each other, different purpose, options etc
Any suggestions?

Indeed as for style, I think you are on the right track will pulling from Jodo Kast's gauntlets. He definitely has some cool gadgets. You could always add anothet blaster to the outside edge similar to how the gauntlet blasters are set up on the Open Seasons Mandos. Also, I would suggest leaving more of that blue tube on the gauntlet greeb. That would allow you to add attachments to the back of it potentially like hoses or cables.

Also yeah lol that pouch came out way to red. Perhaps use that 'tan' dye you have over top of it to make it a reddish brown color? That should be pretty close to the Pre-Pro Fett pouch colors if I am not mistaken. This makes me want to add a cloth belt pouch to my rig as well. If only I had the space..... haha

No worries, that'll be ok, I haven't worked out the shade of green I'm going to use, so I can fill them in and repaint. It's more the size, the rkd one was too tall...couldn't really sit comfortably

That's straight from a spray can, British paints brand, I'll cover most with a humbrol grey airbrushed on....or if too lazy a primer grey using a spray can ....rustoleum brand

I do make lists....but don't stick to it....discipline is another issue  ??? When I write it down I get ideas, then distracted visualising them, think I may need something to organise the ideas, a folder to organise the details
Might try break into two groups
1 Keep working up...attack the flightsuit and torso area
2 play with other stuff
A third area....electronics?.... finding that more appealing than painting at moment

Thanks mate, with the scoring, I reckon it was the paint more than anything. It's black, but it seems more like a dark graphite, has a oily look to it. I was tired of the Rotj colours on the jetpack. Empire fett is more my fave too....but like mismatched gauntlets.

Forgot to state before to Jaster....There's a little bit of Jodo Kast inspiration in the kit as well...has a lot of great details. Good example of how to have a "quality" kit very similar to Boba Fetts but also distinguishable

Sounds like you have good taste Brett.
My kit also took inspiration from those 2 versions of Fett and from Kast as well. I mimicked part of Kast's belt rig to blend my voice amp into my kit without having to hide it in a pouch. Plus doing so has given me the ability to leave the res light exposed on it and as well all know, everything is better with lights lol Keep up the awesome work man. Some top notch quality stuff in this thread

I forgot about mythos fett as well....another source of inspiration. I liked mythos fett as it is still Boba at the core, but a few things were added. I think the additions worked well, can easily believe he may have needed those things for a hunt/ adventure. I think sideshow do a great job...another one I liked was the gammorean executioner....how cool would that be to see one of those in a movie
I agree to a point with adding lights, it's true they add a lot to a kit. I'm not a big fan of super bright lights....not a walking Christmas tree  . If it's meant to help you see ....fair enough...but with other parts of the kit, I'd go with subtle...just a hint to draw the eye
I haven't really done much with voice amps yet, did get a kit....but think I used bits of it on some other thing.

Yes, yes, yes, poncho all the way man. That's how my cloak is cut but with the jetpack you can't actually wear it poncho style but being able to add that half draped across the chest look is fun

I'll have to check out what reds I have, if any still around. Might use the esb flame unit. I'll have to strip and clean the airbrush ....see if it still works, been left outside for over a year. Might use red, black, silver, gold on the bits and pieces....see what I've got around, sort out some electronics

Besides looking pretty cool,a poncho can help differentiate the kit from Boba, could possibly be used to hide the actions of the hands too

I do have a Clint " man with no name" poncho...it's big on me...if I use that as a pattern I'll have to adjust the measurements. Research some good material that'll hang pretty cool, like in pics/ comics etc. I reckon a light soft material, dull flat look
Wonder how linen would go? I've no idea with fabrics

My kit was made in almost the same idea. I really like the look of the classic "Boba" but wanted to make it my own (mixes of mythos and some other stuff...) When it was ready I jumped on the Protector train...but not until I thought I was ready.
Your kit is amazing and truly an inspiration. I'm sure that if you stay true to your vision, take your time, and have fun it will only get better!

Thanks mate, still trying to get ball rolling. I've got a few things I'd like to try to do once the time is right....weather wise.
I think the protectors are cool....not a fan of the new protectors though. I like the "supercommando" term applied to them.
If I do join a brigade it'll be the protectors. I'm the same with boba looking cool, as does Jodo....and wanting something different to both....a distinct cool looking bad shebs character...I think a poncho is a step that way,weapon/ blacker could be another another way.  I like boba having his braids, suits him. I'd like to have something different....no lightsabers or chest diamonds though. Was find something different or no trophies at all. At this stage I'm leaning towards that ...I'm still open to it if I can find something different....or even how and where I can wear what ever it is....I'm half thinking if my character got lucky in a bar one night....could he have ....a bra hanging off his range finder..🤔Don't think that'll pass.

What parts of the brigade requirements dont you want to add? If you dont mind me asking
At moment the trophy part....or maybe find something else that's different to Boba

Hahahaha hanging a bra off of your range finder  :boba:

If you want to think of something interesting and unique check out some other canon Mandos back stories. Since my kit is essentially Fenn Shysa, one of my trophies is a braided gold and green rope with a gold disk meant to be the cloak and broach from the Suprema - the imperial responsible for killing Tobbi Dala - Fenn's closest friend, to signifying getting justice for Dala.

Something like that might fit your character well.

I'll have a look when I get the chance, been a bit busy last few weeks. Whatever way I go, it'll be very similar to a protector...plus or minus a few things. I'm sort of thinking about some extra kit he may have for various missions etc. in the end I think this'll be more on display than trooping...so a few extra weapons, soft backpack with thermal dets, extra set gauntlets ....maybe a few extras like bandoleer ....been looking at dred priest character....he's pretty cool

in the past I've never really liked the Rotj flame unit, as it was big and bulky. I've always preferred the smaller esb style....and the stripped down look. After looking at the Rotj and making it a bit smaller....I'm strarting to like the look. Now to find some cool looking pipes and nozzles, join the two halves and clean it up and paint....still need to cut the shells down so they actually fit me
Finalise the design .
May need a led similar to the one fett has on the rear of his gauntlet 🤔 Or maybe a push button switch. Since I'm still using Kast style rockets on the top/sides, I thought I should move the flame control switches

As someone that has multiple kits with different lengths of flamethrowers, I can tell you that the longer it is, the more annoying, uncomfortable, and in-the-way it is.  I highly suggest keeping it the same length as your gauntlet itself, maybe just a slight protrusion.  The concept looks really good though!

Thanks for the advice, I can see it'll add ....headaches.. 😕 I've thought of using some metal in the build and anticipating the gauntlet wanting to rotate so it'll need to be a snug fit. Sort of thinking of making it a bit slimmer as well.  Still working out where it'll actually sit on the gauntlet, would I line the top back edge up with back of gauntlet or the back bottom edge 🤔
At moment I'm thinking just the barrel extending...nothing collapsible with the housing...did think of having the front section of the housing having the ability to slide back a bit....servicing or something. No idea yet..
Been thinking of trophies and adding a little more
Also thinking up plans for jetpack...colours. Colours still mainly green, but I'll add in black, white, and metal
Weapons are still on the mind....few plans there, also a nemrod holster
The helmet and jaig eyes ...black ones and other helmet details
Kill stripes added later...if I make it to protector...what ever number I am will be the kill stripe number.
The enthusiasm is back....just need to start ball rolling, organise myself

With the jetpack and trying to do a metal look on thrusters...I reckon I might try a darker metal look. I think a darker shade would help bring colours together

Thanks mate,  I saw a pic on dented helmet or may have been delucks designs. There was an old pic of one of the shin tools with a blueish decal ...got idea from that.
Going to have try work in some weathering, and a few things I hope to work on next few days...

Yep....hopefully I get time soon to do some more. I'm running short of some paints. Got a few other greens but they are darker and too green. Might have a plate or two that are slightly different green
i really like how the Fett / Protector colours look together.

Been looking at the plates last few nights....not 100% happy with the colour. I used straight humbrol Matt 78, I think I might try a lighter shade...add in some white or light grey.

Everything is looking really good!
I think that dulling the green with some light grey is a good idea...

Thanks mate, mucking around a bit today. Getting a bit of texture showing. The plate needs a lot more work and clean up, I'll do a certain amount then leave until I do similar with the other plates....then try get a fairly uniform look

Thanks guys...hhhmmm I'm not real happy with it so far, I like the texture that showing on the plate....but I don't really like the colour, I think I'll try finding a place with some more humbrol paint....76 or 78.... and lighten it a shade or two. Maybe one plate slightly darker

All that said, it's looking really terrific!

Need to find some 78 green then start again

Thanks vod. I like the black. I don't plan on having freshly painted on black.. the look I'll try to get is old, faded and worn. I'll look at the humbrol #67 thanks Jett. The dome needs work and repaint. The weathers a bit crap at moment, prob won't get to paint for a bit....

Thanks guys, I don't like the green....or the grey beneath it. They blend together abit too easy. The weather is gether better so I can slap on a better paint job, the last one was half hearted trying to get motivated.
The sigil I'll use save colours...may add abit of black to outline and add something small subtle like Fetts

Sort of wondering what the hose was for...compressed air  to shoot the darts and whipcord 🤔
Been thinking about the hoses recently as well. I have some hose for a large compressor but feel it's too thick. Might try find some silicon hoses. I know there's some offered for cars but not sure about size and colour
Few more pics

Hose connector added, some clay used to try illustrate idea better.
I'm thinking where the rubber band crosses the flames/ launcher I may need to turn down the shafts diameter to allow it to sit lower. Also thinking of adding some copper piping as well...another small detail. The grey clay will be replaced with some thing else more permanent. Maybe a hose at rear attaching to hose connector

Thanks mate, what do you reckon about the colour combo. I think I should paint the whipcord housing or hose connector yellow- orange, bit less black. The housing needs weathering, currently it's just a flat black undercoat. Might add in some brass 🤔

Yeah i really like the orange..... it does a great job pushing the weathering forward. Maybe you could make a whip cord tip that looks metal ?

I've got to try match that colour  ???, orange on both the whipcord and connector?
With the whipcord I was thinking of replacing the tube in the cut out area with some type of tube/ shaft, and continue that to the tip. Also thought of winding some cable around it and attach to the tip.
What do you reckon the second tube is for on the bottom of the whipcord housing? ( on the Rotj version)

Coming into this a little late, but I absolutely love the Twin Engines of Destruction reference, not to mention the evolution of your gaunt from concept to essentially reality.

The hose on both my Protector and Fett are the braided hose, but my protector is an empty hose, while Fett has some black cable run through it.

Thanks Mi'ix , Twin Engines is awesome...best comic with fett in it I reckon. Artwork is great with lots of inspiration...feels Star Wars too  there's a lot of work yet to be done on the reality part too
I'll have to source some braided hose of the right size

G'day all, I've no real updates to show, still working on ideas, waiting for some metal stock to arrive. Thinking of using a few different metals for what I'm thinking.
I'm having some trouble finding some silicon food grade braided hose for gauntlets...also been reading some jango threads too. I'm thinking of a coloured hose rather than standard Boba style, not a solid colour but thinking something like a smoke / tinted look. I've read the jango guys have dyed theirs, one used shoe polish and I've also seen some aluminium braid hose that's been cheaper than silicon food grade braided hose...I'm a bit on the fence regarding the aluminium braid hose....could look good 🤔 With weathering
What do you guys think?
Also since I have two sets of gauntlets...(allowing for mismatched or matched colour) I was thinking of adding some ideas from jango's right gauntlet onto the red/ winecoloured one. The bit I'm thinking is the two darts jango has, could I add something like that rather than a light . With the light / led on the yellow one, I'm thinking of shiny metal surrounds of replace with laser pointer

**An Even minor update...just grabbed some hose, got some 8mm and some 6mm, thought I'll use 8mm for the top but and the 6mm for the two that attach to the whipcord

Here's a question regarding gauntlet hoses...the left gauntlet....most pics of boba Fetts left gauntlets don the have any hoses, I think the early pre pro or super trooper did, I think jango also has a hose or two ....if I'm asking a custom style flame unit am I ok to add a hose or two to my set up?

The colored hoses, go a long way to help sell the weathering look.  Our very own Jaster Fett achieved a similar look by using RIT dye on his braided hoses.  Took a couple tries, but in the end, they turned out lovely.

Yup! Add some hoses!  ROTJ is about as hosey as Boba gets.

Nice I was reading on dented helmet the jango guys had used rit dye and had mixed results... I'm not trying to match a colour so it should be good. I'm only thinking of one hose on the left gauntlet....at moment anyway 😯 Could be used to hide some cables

Going to replace a few details on thrusters with aluminium replicas, bought some needle bearings to hopefully help thrusters to rotate
Realised I need to install the vent that goes here

Found this pic I forgot to upload when I did the start of left ear, here's early stages of top of right ear. Need to trim the right side down and remove the black areas to get shape, then mark out areas to shape next. Getting the angles right and aluminium removed is time consuming. Then a clean up to be all shiny...🤔 Had thought of a pitted look...as in sandblasted.

Here's a question regarding cape or poncho, is there a specific length. I'm currently thinking of a poncho but if I can't get a good look I was thinking of half cape around knee length. Was interested to see in brls that the cape is optional....I didn't realise that
Also is there any colour restrictions for the ears? Or just the fett variations?
Abit of experimentation
(https://i.imgur.com/gEvZK04.jpg)
I wanted to try stay away from a fett esb cat scratch....but wanted to continue the damage over the right eye....have to see how it ends up
(https://i.imgur.com/D1E4eQP.jpg)
These are just rough ideas for weathering, may paint over or add to with more layers of paint
Title: Re: Brett's protector wip

I would say a knee length poncho would probably be a little too long - I would go mid thigh at the longest and honestly probably even a little shorter.

As for the ear caps, I don't think there is really a color restriction per say but it has to fit the overall aesthetic of the protectors. Can't be a blue if nothing else is implemented on your kit of the same color. That being said, my ear caps are tan - though it isn't a primary color it goes with the rest of my kit

Thanks mate...I think the cape will be tricky, be hard achieving the look and selecting material. At moment I've got an old army surplus tent...green canvas
With ears I do like the tan colour, it's a colour not seen on rest of kit. I'm sort of thinking a flat black or a dark grey....charcoal colour. Something to add a bit more to a sinister look.. the ears will be aluminium but roughly covered...may leave left one bare metal and right with charcoal grey plus decals

That's true, I'm thinking it'll help distinguish it abit more from Fetts, I reckon I'll try a charcoal on right...the black stickers on Fetts I'll add, the paint over, remove and they'll be silver( shiny aluminium) instead

Update on the anodising attempt....failure . Will try again with a slightly different set up. The acid I used dissolved my alligator clips ....and I didn't used aluminium wire. Maybe that effected things 🤔 I'll continue trying.
During the week I think my focus will be on jetpack. Sorting out ideas for thrusters....joining together and movement
Also been watching season one of mandalorian again and have idea / question regarding the right bottom ear....thinking of adding a small light/ torch to area where fett has a symbol....not sure if there's a small enough led that'll do the job. Have a few other ideas too 🤔 May have to make a second set  if I can make the first ....just thinking of something abit different. For the rf topper a switch between standard and kasts type.

Maybe a little bit of progress with anodising
(https://i.imgur.com/txyehPD.jpg)
I used it dye frost grey, might next time use black. Used a scrap piece that I'd stuffed up. At bottom I used a file to scratch away the coat to show aluminium underneath. I'm making some progress. I've also found if I leave the piece in the drain cleaner solution for a while, little bits of the surface gets eaten away....natural weathering and will blend in with my helmet better. Having a super clean and shiny ear(s) would look out of place

Mainly at bottom angles. They need to be thinner/ sharper, and just adjust width of the central vertical bit. Because I shaved a little off the top, it altered the width, now the address that.

I mean.... this is for a custom kit so you can do whatever suits your fancy dude lol

That’s true, I won’t be using those tines as they’re warped. I haven’t tried heating them up to straighten though. 🤔For what I’m wanting to do I think parts will need to be altered or redesigned. Actual rocket itself may be used. Using it to help visualise what needs or could be done

Some pics of some goodies...and ideas for the gauntlet of death. Progress on right ear cap. Waiting on a smaller diameter end mill before I go further
(https://i.imgur.com/W6pguNz.jpg)
The two clips are for attaching grenades to belt....have to decide on which one though. I'll use black wire to attach them and also use abit in whipcord....maybe
The file is to give rough idea for a blade...not too big, more a stiletto type
For the right gauntlet I'm thinking of including ;
- flame units / dart launchers as seen in "twin engines of destruction" comic.... boba fett style
- usual small darts
-whipcord and a dart below it
- extending knife/ vibro knife
- thinking jango style blades
Also wondering what the black object above small darts could be.....laser would be too hard to fit

That'll keep me day dreaming for ages ....while I work on other bits

Thanks mate, was mucking around and broke a cheap file.....either I have hands of steel or it was very cheap -censored-...so taking advantage of my hands of death I mocked up an idea
(https://i.imgur.com/RNpBHIJ.jpg)
Not quite a blade, maybe I'll go with some sort of injecting device, similar to Tor viszla in open seasons comic, when he stabbed jango. I could use darts at distance and this thing at close quarters
Added in the fett survival knife....doesn't look that bad and a rough experiment paint job

The concept on the gauntlet is interesting. I would caution you on using something metal, sharp, and pointy on your kit. It could hurt you or someone else.

You could try a rubberized piece or something plastic.

The file used in the pic was used because it fit the hole, the file broke in my hand and the thought crossed my mind. I understand what you mean about being careful of harming others, it's just a mock up and it calms the mind down thinking and visualising how things could work.....it won't be spring loaded thats for sure
I think you should make some metal tines for the jet pack grapple hook  :D :D :D
To be honest I am thinking something like that, for what I'm thinking I need to make new ones...just for it to move by itself
Thinking about painting the rocket with same .....rough approach I used for survival knife....paint and leave outside for a while  looks well loved

Thanks mate.... at moment it’s powered by my forearms of death 😂
I do intent to hook it up to a servo... and even have a Jodo kast inspired setting.... nozzles rotate to horizontal for those who haven’t read “twin engines of destruction” comic
I was lucky with the shaft being the exact size... now to sort out the workings

Was having alook around in the goody bin last and found a few things I collected and planned on using
Found a small breathing chip...pulses a LED...and also a laser diode. The battery clip still had good batteries in it, and the clip in just slightly wider than the Patterson squeegee piece. I was planning on making it out of aluminium ...so I'll just get a slightly wider bit of stock, and may make a few. I've got another idea for the anti security blade...but I'll leave that as a suprise for when skills get better
Pulsing led...will pulse the laser diode, just hard to see

A lot easier than anodising....the bolt was cheap too

It looks like your test turned out pretty well!
All that's involved is heat it up and quench in oil
Couldn't really sleep last night so looked around at things to do. Found an old light for the beacon, hooked up to a remote to allow switching on or off, need to work out where I'd put the switch now, and type of switch for when I get thrusters to rotate

Also found this cheap small screwdriver set....thinking I could remove the internals and use as hip/thigh pouch filler....maybe a med kit or toxin/ anti toxin tool kit
(https://i.imgur.com/PwBabmC.jpg)
Also a small servo and a tiny motor with long screw ....hhmmmm wonder what I could use that for 🤔
(https://i.imgur.com/GDecfpU.jpg)
Bit of clean up work around the range finder pivot point, the rf stalk is a little thick and prevents the cap sitting flush and the resin wasn't 100% flat. Filing flat to allow the stalk to move freely and also looking at installing a servo. I'd bought a low profile ones few years ago but didn't really get around to installing

I got that off TDH years ago...I think it was one of JC27 kits...there are other flashing kits out there. You can get flashing LEDs now, not sure if they give the same look though. I've seen LEDs with tiny circuit on the anode or cathode leg that made them flash, can't find a tiny circuit board that made a LED flash...all cheap too

Yeah, when you apply for the Protector brigade its required to have the logo on at least 1 shoulder. However, you become a normal OM without the brigade status you can add it later if you want to stagger your applications if you want to just be an OM first while working on the protector upgrades

Protector sigil is, at the very least, required for the left shoulder piece.

At the app team level, you can apply with it on your armor, so long as the armor you are portraying looks like a Protector.

Thanks mate, had to cut out another one, first one split, wondered about gluing it, just as easy cutting another one
Started shaping it abit today...hard to see any details though

Lines indicating area to cut out, and width...not sure this pine will be strong enough

A lot more shaping needed

At moment I'm thinking of using same scope set up as esb ee3 rather than jodos, something similar anyway

Looks very nice.

Using Jodo's scope gives you a little bit different look than just the standard EE-3, but that's just some food for thought.

You could always double scope it like I did!

I'll have to have a look at your set up

I know what you mean, I'd like something different to Fetts....but I do like the empire look. Those extra bits suggest something . I don't mind Jodo's look....maybe use as a base and add something more.
I'm still sorting out the weapons ...got modded e-11, this ee-3, got a dlt-20a ordered from April storm....so that's my sniper rifle. Thinking the ee-3 is like a bigger bore....harder hitting weapon, and e-11 general room clearing. Still planning on a pistol like Fetts sacros k-11.... not spear gun type though. Also have a-180 and power5/ dl44 too....
After all that...the actual scope may change, the set up will...thinking of adding something to suggest an electronic targeting that links to helmet.

Alittle bit more done, able to get the wood stock and resin pieces to fit together. Not finished and far from perfect. Need to trim the stock, shape the resin to fit as it should. The rest of the stock still needs shaping but it gives me an idea of size. I think I need to shorten the stock. It feels like it'll be comfy to hold at hip. Maybe it's the stock shape...but feels bit just a bit long when held up at the cheek. Thinking also it'll be different with chest armour and helmet on.
Makes me think about scope and accessories

Thanks mi'ix, I've shaped things alittle more, not perfect but looking better

The rest of the stock needs shaping now. Interesting how it feels compared to a pistol grip....e-11 style.
Dragged in my future cape/ poncho from the wilds...left it outside for over a year, so may see some work on that soon
Quick shots with gauntlets sitting on it

I'll have to trim it on one side as it's too wide on me. I cut it using Clint Eastwood's man with no name poncho...I'm not as big as him... hence the poncho with no name is too big

It's just green canvas that's been left hanging on a fence out in the sun and rain for roughly a year
Everything is looking great!
Thanks mate, I should look at painting plates soon

Thanks vod, may not really do anything yet with that bit of canvas, I'll get the shape worked out, then weather more, few extra holes and scorch marks

Thanks mate, been lazy lately so nothing new. Have been thinking of how to achieve the cape/ poncho look. Might have a cape and a separate poncho....for the times I need to get dressed up

I have both as well but I honestly never actually use the poncho. If you essentially design your cape to be a 1 shoulder style, you can pretty much achieve the look of either one you want in case you want to mix up the look.

For example this is with the same cloak:

Still going to use the Jodo style ee-3 and modded e-11, just an extra ....mythos style
Got from April storm, parts may change, some may be metal,  moving parts and real screws

Thanks mate, something abit different, was the stock I was using on my modded e-11. Might use it on this one and look at a folding stock for the e-11. Once I start doing some more. Been busy with a few other projects, and new car/van ...🤔 Ship

May take a little while, I've only recently packed it all away....🤔 Think I may work on the dlt-19 or dlt-20.... what ever it is, been that long I've forgotten what it is

Thanks mate....I don't think it'll hit me
Reckon I'll leave kit packed away, I'll dig out the bits for the dlt-20 and start with that. Been playing with some spray paint recently. Not sure if I gave any silver around. I've got a gloss black primer....might need to find a place open with paint.
I can't really recall what I was thinking last time I had the kit out, I reckon I was influenced by Jodo Kast a lot.....🤔 Jodo Kast ee3 rifle...grenades ....coming back now
I'll start with the weapons

Makes me think of attack of clones...with jangos gear stacked in room

Yeah...Kast is cool
Going to play on this
(https://i.imgur.com/f3HTL8P.jpg)
Clean it up, fix a few bits and get it done. Was going to get it to open but I think I'll just glue it closed, add the greebs etc
Mi'ix you mentioned about making scope more like Jodo's ...did you mean the mounting method? Or scope?
Title: Re: Brett's protector wip
Post by: Ru'Stor Rawr on Oct 09, 2021, 10:03 AM
that's a great start you have there and Kast is definitely cool.

IMO i would make sure that the scope is elevated over the barrel leaving an obvious gap between the two, as far as the look of the mount I would try to resemble it, but does not need to be exact, same for the look of the scope as well, get as close to the look of his scope as possible, it will differentiate between the EE and the J3

Thanks mate, I'll have a good look into it when I get to making progress on it.
Been flat out with other stuff, but been thinking about stuff and starting to feel inspiration and ideas for some parts of my kit.
Mainly thinking of jetpack and gauntlets....and a bit around gloves, power 5 .
Jetpack may get a bit of a repaint, continue with rotating the nozzles, maybe a light added....and some more metal added
Gauntlets....hhmmm....more weapons hidden it there somehow...besides finishing them off ..add hoses etc
The power5 to be repaired..and maybe modified

Starting small, started exploring abit with power 5
Removed the " sight".... going to install a laser, remove the bit of barrel. Custom for faster draw

Need to raise it a little, might replace square bit...or place a shiny piece of aluminium there. , bit of contrast.
