Title: Kama?
Post by: Aden Banto on Nov 21, 2015, 08:42 PM
Is there any right way to make a Kama?  If so could some one drop a picture of what the designs look like?

Thanks

Basically it's pretty much just a rectangle on a belt, sometimes with a slit up the backside for mobility. Kama length is up to you. Plenty of people make theirs more complicated, but that's the basics.

So it doesn't matter how much of the leg it covers?

Not really. Kama design is very flexible - as long as it looks good and fits your kit well, you should be fine.

Usually a kama will go from your waist to to roughly knee length. Some people like it to be above the knee, some below. Some like their kama to wrap around in front more similar to Rex while others like it to end further back. The slit in the back is optional as said before and the length is of the wearer's choice.

My kama is basically a trapezoid so that the bottom of it wraps around more than the top. My profile pic has a very good view of this. I do have a slit up the back, it goes about 1/3 of the way up.

Is the kama attached to your girth belt? What's the best way of attaching it?

I have a loop running along the top for a belt to run through, the belt is hidden by my sash and pouch belt. There isn't a best way, there is a best way for you. How are you thinking of setting up your midsection? I've seen people use multiple ways to do it.

I was thinking of attaching it to my girth belt with velcro. Are 2 piece kamas allowed? I was thinking of having one piece of fabric hang a bit past my knee ( it would cover my side leg and the same on the other side. So basically 2 piece kama....

Yes you can do a two piece kama. The problem with attaching it to a girth is that a kama is open at the front while a girth is a backside closure item usually. Pictures help explain your plans because explaining in words sometimes don't hit that 1000 word count of a picture. Even a rough sketch would help.
