Title: Rhoteus Zort armor kit concept
Post by: Rhoteus Zort on Jun 25, 2017, 05:13 AM
(http://i.imgur.com/3b7OXUc.png)

My goal is a lightweight modern kit that is easy to move around in and easy to get on and off by myself.

The picture is more or less what I am going for. I may do small adjustments but that is pretty much it.

I hope to do this on a fairly tight budget.

I want to eventually roll the kit into a Spec-Ops Assassin brigade build.

HELMET:
B3P with appropriate work for custom kit and removed stalk.
Visor will initially be a welder visor, upgraded to red later.

FLIGHTSUIT:
Flightsuit will be a two-piece double-sleeve. Short sleeve top will match the bottoms. Long-sleeve compression garment worn underneath completing the sleeve length.

My current choice is medical scrubs, fairly inexpensive and of course they match color and material. And a compression shirt I have on hand.

VEST:
I plan on making a minimal open-sided vest from duck cloth and strapping.

NECKSEAL:
Balaclava or a similar garmet tucked into the flightsuit or vest as necessary.

PLATES:
Boba WOF pattern
6mm PVC board
Velcro attachment to vest

GAUNTLETS:
Half-bracers
Hard-cover
Smooth, no weapons or mounts.

WAIST COVERAGE:
Loincloth
Sash and holster belt.

GLOVES:
Full-finger.

BOOTS:
Must consult app team.

WEAPON:
Modestly sized Blaster pistol

And that is all I have for now. Please comment or let know if there is anything I missed. Thanks all.

You've got a solid concept.  I like that you're keeping it simple to get OM.

After wearing my costume for so long, my advice for a both high mobility as well as putting it on and off yourself.
1. Practice! It used to take me 30 mins. Now it takes me 15 minutes.
2. Make sure that your Vest is easy for you to take off and put on. This is the one thing i cannot truly do by myself and require assistance with for side-zippers. My suggestion is to do the zipper(s) towards the front.
3. Keep all your plates attached to the armor, if you're doing snaps. Trying to put on/take off by yourself is a pain. If you're doing magnets, i also suggest keeping them on the vest unless you sow the discs small pockets to automatically go back in the same spot for quick take on/off.
4. Knees are one of my major problems, so going with snaps and loose elastic, as opposed to velcro and tight Elastic is my preference now.
5. Have your cod piece really high, and easily removable. I utilize two snaps to put it on... and that's it. :P

Hopefully this helps, offer some input. Love the concept, and look forward to seeing it come together!

Today it starts.
I got a B3P, my scrubs, and some duck cloth on the way.

I figured it gets me doing merc stuff quicker. I can fancy everything up when I go for brigade.

The vest is going to be designed for side-entrance or even just tossing it over the head and tightening the straps. Hopefully I can get in and out of it pretty quick.

Any comment on helmet size?

Tossed on some paper shoulders to see what it looked like with a little more bulk.

Once you have your flak vest and plates, size will look just right.

Thanks all. I will start working on the helmet ASAP.

This thing is huge compared to my other buckets. I just could not tell how the sizing was. Usually I'm in something fairly conforming, like a field hockey mask.

The scrubs in the pic are what I will be using as well. I need to do a little fitting, but not much. The pant legs will need shortening.

I can also start the vest and plates once the app team gets back to me on my vest questions. Trying to confirm that my vest plan can be approved. I'm pretty sure they will say yes, but cannot afford to make it and then be wrong. So confirm first.

I'll be ordering plate material too. I'm thinking a 2 by 4 foot sheet of  6mm PVC board should be more than enough.

Overall, this build seems to be coming together rather quick. Goal is still an approved kit by Fall convention season.

Ok....it's getting close to build time.

Just need a few more materials for....

blaster, belt, holster
waist sash or girth belt
armor plates, gauntlets, knees

That should be it, I should have it all. Then onto a build.

Yeah, I'll definitely get pics for the build topic.

Right now I am going over Gauntlet options. Looking at what there is for non-clamshell designs.
