Title: Back plate
Post by: Moab on Jul 31, 2017, 11:25 PM
Hey all, I'm currently struggling to mold my back plate. I have finished molding everything else but this seems to be the trickiest. I've chosen to have a single piece but it won't mold they way I'd like. Would multiple pieces be better/easier? or does anyone have some tips?
Cheers!

Back plate is always a major pain and is nearly impossible to do alone.  Come out to an armor party, bring some sintra and a heavy shirt like a sweatshirt to help insulate you from the hot melty plastic a bit, and we can get you sorted out quick.

Otherwise my best advice is to heat small areas and work one small area.   Get the whole thing a little closer, then go back and start over, get the whole thing a little closer, then go back, etc.  It's very slow work when you do it alone

What Zoph said. It seems to be a team effort to get a back plate molded somewhat easily ;)

Hopefully you'll be able to make it to Vancouver for an ap sometime soon!

Also, welcome!

Ya I'm learning the hard way that doing it solo is pretty hard. I cut out a bit behind the shoulders and it seemed to be a lot easier to mold in stages without creasing everywhere. (I'd post photos but my computer is being real weird lately)

One of the Ruu's I chat with is putting together a tutorial on it, I'll maybe give him a poke to see if he can get it sooner rather than later :P
