Title: Bo-Katan from Rebels S4 build
Post by: GoldenCat on Sep 04, 2017, 08:06 PM
Hi to all of you! I should say that I'm a bit new to the whole armor building and I would appriciate any feedback. I will add more story and progress pics a bit later, I started writing this and realized it could quickly become a very long reading that won't look good at the first post. I will try to dissasemble my post to parts and post it piece by piece with pictures.

This are the best shots so far that show her full armor - front view and from the back. Also I added Filoni's art from SWCO, it has a good picture of the helmet.

Last year I tried to make TCW version of Bo-Katan's armor, it didn't go as well, I was planning on making big changes to what've done. I recieved a great comments, but it was reeeeaalllly bad, I won't even add a picture to the post but you can check the costume here - https://www.instagram.com/p/BK8TnYRDmpE/?taken-by=nastasiyafun
Then some things happend in my life and I gave up on crafting for a few long months.

The urge to finish the costume hited me while I was watching a livestream from SWCO. I spend a day writing everything I needed to upgrade or build from scratch. But then the trailer for star wars rebels was released. At first glance, I thought the armor is pretty simmilar to the TCW version, yes, some diffences, but overall it seemed close enough. This is when it struck me to do this costume. For the next couple of days I reviewed all screenshots with Bo from the trailer and realized how wrong I was. The only things that I could use from TCW version are the wig and the knees. Oh well. I asked a friend of my from our clan if he had any tips for starting the build and if he could give me some materials. I was supplied with 2 lists of 3mm sintra each about 1mx1m. And as of now this is just a right amount I need for everything except for helmet and some parts of the thight armor - I used my previous armor parts and upgraded them quite a lot.

The helmet.
I took my first, not-right-even-for-TCW, helmet cut the visor as closer to the rebels as I could. Then just a hard work reshaping it closer and closer to rebels version and undoing the mistakes I made in my first try to do something.

What I want to change later: rangefiner (this one was rushed, doesn't look good and based on Sabine's rangefinder, waiting for good references for Bo), painting (I chould aim for not so bright blue and want to add a proper weathering, but it also depends on references) and ears. Right now my ears are combination of what you can see on Ursa's helmet and on Bo's.

Earcaps look fine for an improvised set!
Keep it steady. It might be a tedious build, so don't rush it. Good news is, Rebels pics and reference materials should start showing up pretty soon, with the new season coming this October...
So yeah, have patience with this one!

Well, it's already a long build for my standarts, usually it don't take me longer than a 2-3 months to finish the costume, and here I am stretching this from april. - I'm not really rushing things. It might look like this in the next couple of weeks because of two things - I've already done a lot of work, so I will post a lot of things at once - it doesn't mean that I crafred it over night. Also I want to have this costume at wearable stage by the end of the month, because we will have a big event in Russia. This will give an opportunity to test things "in the field".

Аеее добро пожаловать!))
;) когда-то нужно было начать in-progress для структуирования процесса.

Gonna keep an eye on this build! I absolutely adore your Lana Beniko.

Thanks, I hope this costume will turn out as well as Lana's.

I forgot to post it before, here is my album for reference pics- http://imgur.com/a/Rxsdm.
So, today I bring you - chest plates! In comparrison to her TCW armor these plates are much flatter. And I thought it will be some kind of problem when I started the build. Lets just say the shape of her TCW chest armor is more suitable for me. But there's nothing fun without a bit of challenge. Some wip pics - it is me figuring out the right shape and proportions to make a pattern.
Sometimes it's hard for me to stop and take more pics step by step because at the start of the process I don't know how things will turn out. This is why my wips are usually very quick. After I had a right shape I made it into patterns. Of course it's not wise to cut sintra right away. I started with patterns on some type of heavy paper, just to adjust dart placement and the overall shape. I used a few tutorials from the forum so I won't dive into explaining too much - you can easily find it in topics. Long story short - editing shape, sanding, sanding, sanding and etc. Also I like to always see what exactly am I doing, so between sandings I usually put some neutral color over the part. So this grey is not the color the I will use for the armor! Shouldn't forget to make a place for the lights on the armor and edit the shape a bit, but this is going to be done when other parts are also almost done, I will work from how they look together on the vest.

While crafting the jetpack I decided to do a big analysis of the entire costume. I collected all the clips from the trailer to have every possible screenshot with Bo-Katan. You know how much content we have right now? 15 seconds from two trailers  But, thanks to trailer style, in those 15 seconds are 12 different shots with Bo. That's super awesome.

My analysis is styled like a CRL and based on Bo-Katan's TCW armor and Sabine's S3 CRL. I hope my English is not so bad and I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Thank you! Yes, I actually noticed that Dave probably wanted her armor to be closer to Boba's, because on his art from SWCO her armor isn't from Rebels or Clone Wars. So what we have right now is sort of combination of Boba's outfit and Bo's from CW.

And this is what I have right now after another crafting weekend. The belt is done 99% and there're a first layer of paint on the armor.

____

But guess what - just after publishing my analysis I found out a few great shots with Bo that clear a few of the questions I had. I'll update the post soon. I'm so greatful for the full shot from a side - so many good notes from this.

I also looked closer on Ursa's gauntlets. There is a sort of seem on the inner side, it could be used for openning on the gauntlets to those ho need one. Right now my gauntlets don't have an openning, because my wrists can easily fit in.

Thank you all for those great words

some mistakes in english might be here, it's past midnight here, sooo don't blame to much, ok? :)

Right now I'm working on the soft parts and the jetpack, while waiting for a right gray color to arrive at my doorstep by mail. For now, no awesome pics to share, I'm afraid.. But here is one blurry shot of me trying up the chest parts to see if they fit right.

And I have two questions for you to discuss.
1) The main color of the  flightsuit. In comparrison to Sabine's flightsuit it's the same or even darker color, just shinier, while the vest is completly black.
(https://i.imgur.com/hSeqb5d.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/rS4vTnS.png)
And I know it's okay if the main flightsuit color for Sabine is black (it's written in the CRL).
So the question here - Does dark gray/almost black is going to be okay for Bo, of course with the vest being darker, as black as the blackest night?

2) This one is a bit tricky.
At first I thought that she only has a shin armor on front, and at the back there are just straight black boots that goes over to the shin. But then I found the image that showed Bo from the left side and I'm no longer sure that this is the case. I lighten up the image and found out that on the back of the boot there's something dark grayish, like another part of the shin armor. And researching this style on other costumes I found out that it might not be the case either.
Why it's not a complete shin armor that covers the whole leg? We can see the complete armor on the female Mandos from clan Wren and there're no seems that indicated that the piece on the back of the boot is separate for them as well.
And I couldn't  find a good image, but I noticed that many costumes in Rebel have two layers on their boots - one that covers a foot and other that covers the shin. So my idea here is to make this two layered boots with foot layer to be black and the shin layer to be dark grayish and then mount the shin armor at front as it should be. This might sound a bit confusing, but it makes sense while looking on the ref. pics. So please, let me know what you think!

And hello to you all once again ;)
I updated my analysis post - http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=139856.msg1788693#msg1788693
I used glow text to highlight everything I added or changed. Also I replaced some of the images because I took more clear screenshots and found new references.

As for my build, I started painting! Yay, love that part. I'm repainting the helmet, already fixed my rangefinder and ears to match the new ref pics. As soon as I finish with weathering I'm going to upload more clear and detailed photos. I don't really like sharing the progress step by step because I don't always sure if I like the result, so my progress thread is might seem so rushed.

Right now my to-do list:

My deadline is next week, because the con I want to attend to sort of test this in the field is at the end of September.  I feel quite good with what've done already and so badly want to wear this!

Thank you! I realised I never posted the back plate progress before. I made a template myself from paper first (sort of try smt, fix it, try again and etc.) and then moved it to sintra. Here is how it looked:
After I bent it over my shoulders I saw that it wasn't so fitting, so I decided to do two darts like this (https://i.imgur.com/M3m6PIX.jpg).
And it turned out quite well  (https://i.imgur.com/SgP83MM.jpg)

Also about the jetpack.. It's a real pain for me ???. I made my TCW jetpack from scratch and it looked fine from a distance, a very far distance...When I made it last year, I soon saw that it was too tall. So this time I needed a brand new jetpack - Bo's jetpack is a bit different version of Boba's Z-6 jetpack. I drew this illustration of how I need to transform my exicting jetpack into a whole different model. (https://i.imgur.com/QdN7frz.jpg)
And I tore my previous jetpack to pieces, like all I had left was the main wall and three tubes. This is my progress on the jetpack for 1,5 week.

There so much yet to be done, I'm a bit tired and I actually want to do a full painting and see how it works. Because I believe so many thing could be covered by weathering. And if I don't like it in the end - then I'll fix whatever needs fixing.

UPD:
Also a question - I'm considering to use for the boots my standard Imperial officer's boots. I tried to see how the armor will look, it seems okay, I think.. Should shorten the boots a bit, but overall it's good?? Let me know what you think because if I'm going to use them on Bo it means that I won't be able to use them for my Juno anymore and I want at least a second, mb even a fifth opinon..

Remember how I wanted to finish everything at least to a wearable state by the end of the September? Well here I am! (at least I'm close to it, I still have 2 days before the convention). Today I tried everything on myself for the first time - yay! It helped me to remember all the small things I left for the later and never finished. So today I'm finishing some details. But here is how it looks right now:
I'm thinking about placing the jetpack a bit higher, and I need to add straps on the thigh armor, attach those small trapeze pieces to the boots. Btw, the boots. I love them, I made my shin armor from two pieces - one back dark gray piece and the other is the main one on front and I think it's looks like it supposed to be. Also don't mind the colors, I have bad lightning near my mirror, so it's harder to see that the suit is lighter that the vest (the vest might seem a bit baggy but I just need to iron it).

I'm going to fix what I want today, then wear the whole thing again and I hope to post more pictures today later or at least tomorrow morning.

And Update ^^
Here is how it looks now (don't mind the wig, I was trying to take off the helmet and realized that the wig won't hold very well, like no awesome shots taking off helmet right now):

I'm going to leave it like here for the event this weekend and then wait for the episode to air.

Thank you all for your kind words!

It's been a week since the convention where I was testing this costume for three days. I was so worried about the costume, that for some time I debated if I should wear it at all. But I love that I sort of take everything under control the day before the convention and crafted the head band.
What more can I say - so many things to change and improve! But for now let me share a few pics with you, sadly this darksaber not mine and on some pics my wig is a mess because it was a constant "buckets on" and "buckets off".

My main concerns:
- mount a jetpack higher
- maybe shorten the backplate a bit
- shorten the chest plates and with this everything below them will go higher
- craft westars so then I could modify my thigh armor to be smaller, but still have functional holsters.
- mb completely re-sew the suit, because I think it should be more grayish.
- on the third day I couldn't find my neck seal, so I would like to make a collar on the suit to never face this problem again.
Of course, for all the changes I will wait for the episode to air. Just a week of waiting, but then - back to work! I still have a few questions regarding some of the armor parts, but they're going to be solved with enough ref pics.
With the help of photoshop I made a small comparisson to help figuring out what I need to change. And how much I hate this cartoon style with small torso and long legs.. This is where my problem with proportions came in. My upper body is shaped differently and that's why my chest plates are big. And my legs aren't so long, but I wanted to have functional holsters - this is why my thigh armor is so much bigger that in the ref pics. Here are some adjustments that I think I can do to make things more screen-accurate.

Reference time!
I was offline for a few days and only today I found out how much content we now have, even if the episodes will air next week. And it's more than enough for me to start on some changes I wanted to make, but first I need to make a change to the list of those changes xD
Some good screencaps:

And something I have been waiting for a loooong time:

Changes^^
- mount a jetpack higher
- shorten the backplate a bit and add a dark gray area to it.
-  ?? shorten the chest plates and with this everything below them will go higher
- craft the westars so then I could modify my thigh armor to be smaller, but still have functional holsters. And overall fix the thigh armor to be more accurate.
- No re-sew. Her suit appears almost black as mine, so I will only make a decant gray color pattern.
- Make a collar.
- EXTENSIVE WEATHERING. Sorry for caps, but I'm looking at this images and can't wait to do all the damage  xD
- Helmet ears should be fixed. No circles, those details are more of squares with circled tops. And lower part of the ears is painted dark gray.
- Belt: Small detail on the buckle, also the larger belt have small lines on it, to simulate a girth belt.
- Make a missile for the jetpack. It seems like most of the episode Bo won't have it, but I think it should be made for approval.
And this is it. If you have any more suggestions, I will be happy to hear them :)

Updating my breakdown of the costume ;) I started weathering the helmet and fixing my thigh armor to have more accurate parts.. And I realised that my old analysis needs update after the episodes. And because I'm adding new ref pics, new text, I decided to post it in a separate post. Also check the "jetpack" part, I made a missile an optional item and I want to know what you think!

Wow, you look awesom. Your work is very impressive.

Thank you all <3

Here is a small fun thing. I've mentioned that at first I wanted to do TCW version of Bo Katan, made something very rushed, and when I finally decided to right my wrongs the trailer for season 4 of Rebels came out and my TCW build evolved into Rebels. I just found a folder with photos of my progress, so I decided to do a collage from day 1 to the latest update. I repainted the helmet again and changed a visor shape a bit. For now, it looks better- just love the weathering on Bo's helmet!

The evolution of this build is astounding.
Incredible work!!

Thank you, I hope it will be even more noticable when I finish with my changes ;)

Some progress pics I never shared before:
At first, I think I haven't talked about my wig, I took one old yellowish wig, tried to dye it once a few years ago - it didn't work, and I tried to dye it again this summer and came out with this ginger-red color that I think can work for Bo here. So here's how the progress looks: (https://pp.userapi.com/c837129/v837129127/648b9/v5l_0WKkEcw.jpg)
One more photo for shoulder armor in early stages, I spend so much paper trying to figure out where should I place the darts to make the armor as close to the actual shape as possible, so mb it will be usefull to someone -
 (https://pp.userapi.com/c639421/v639421429/64a71/JfzigTWI1-8.jpg)

Thigh armor and blasters.
Let me start with a big analsysis of the thigh armor and especially the holsters on it. When I made those only based on the trailer, I think their construction is simillar to the ones she has in Clone Wars. And it was a huge mistake, because later I practicaly tore them to pieces and made a new ones. Two images below show the most important part: the holsters are fixed on thigh armor in one point only and can freely move. For example, as she walks, holsters stay vertically, while the base moves with the leg.

How I've been changing it? I tore to pieces the armor, very lousy shortend it and made a more accurate shape (see first image for comparisson, on the left - old shape and size, and on the right - new one). Then I added another piece of sintra to holsters from the back side and then secured it on the base of the armor using bolts. If you don't make them too tight, the holsters can move on the armor as needed.
(https://pp.userapi.com/c639421/v639421429/64a4c/mXG5vEyLG8A.jpg) (https://pp.userapi.com/c840636/v840636127/23f4c/m3oD39KZrNw.jpg)

As for the blasters, I made them from sintra using pepakura files, there're lots of other examples of this method so I won't dive in to it. I'm more interested in the design, it's quite a shame that Bo don't have anything personal on her westars (like Sabine) and their pattern is standard to all other mandos in Rebels (Ursa, Fenn Rau, Tristan and etc..)

So this is how my almost finished blasters and new thigh armor look like, I'm quite happy with the result -
(https://pp.userapi.com/c837237/v837237088/79358/2-AEdZF8gLg.jpg)

And now updates on everything else.
--Cod. I just cleaned up the edges and made the parts less curvy on sides (https://pp.userapi.com/c639421/v639421429/64a43/An6Gvqdi0iQ.jpg)

-- Belt. I made it wider (see images for comaprisson with a piece of the old belt), on a wider part I made lines to imitate the girth belt, as it look in the episode.

side note: I just noticed her pouches, they're interesting, should fix mine in a couple of days - (https://pp.userapi.com/c841235/v841235127/36ed7/WvRTLwWKtFA.jpg)
-- Back plate. As I've planned, I shortend it and fixed the coloring with weathering. I think it looks way cooler right now, kind of happy that it should actually look like this, because I didn't like my first, plane blue version..
(https://pp.userapi.com/c841039/v841039608/37254/9PyB4CRUneY.jpg) (https://pp.userapi.com/c841230/v841230608/34cf0/MYRmQZqwTS4.jpg)
-- Chest. Slightly shortend these two pieces by 1 inch or so. Also I had to work a bit more on the darts, because on some photos from the con, you could still see them. Shouldn't be any problems now.
-- Knee armor. Slightly worked on the shape and made a more accurate coloring and weathering. The first photo is from an early satges of my build and on the other photo you can see a comparisson between two versions.

I know, I should place it all on me to show how it all looks together, but I want to fix the suit and the jetpack first. Slowly (at least for my taste), but I'm getting there. For some reason I want this to be p.e.r.f.e.c.t.

Thanks! And - I want to say again, I appreciate any feedback, so if anyone have any thoughts of what else I should improve - I will be happy to hear it all ;)
Today I finally made up my mind on what I want to do with the suit and the vest, so I started the search for the right materials. Hopefully, I will find what I need in a few days, so I could fix all the soft parts this weekend, and (finally!) test it all on myself.

By the way, today I found this cool picture of the model for Bo's head band, I'm leaving it here, just in case anyone needs it someday. Source- https://imgur.com/gallery/MbswKJN

So far you've been doing amazing work on this kit.  And I don't have anything constructive to add to what you've been doing.  I'm confident, having read your entire WiP, that you've got a great handle on not only how to build a great kit, but also how to break down the source material to actually build it.

If I do see anything that could use improvement, I'll happily pass that along.  In the meantime, I'll just be watching for more updates.   ;D

Happy #MandoMonday!
And here I am with another update ;)
At first I worked a bit on my wig:
I also made a whole new vest, and I'm so so happy with it! I mean, sewing is a nightmare for me, I wanted to order the vest and fix the jumpsuit a bit. But the company where I wanted to order this, had set the price too high, so I decided it was a time to face my fears. So here are two photos of the progress (as you will see later I also fixed my suit)  :
(https://pp.userapi.com/c621700/v621700023/385a0/LkTHrmR1byE.jpg) (https://pp.userapi.com/c621700/v621700023/385b4/3WbzZ-8O5AU.jpg)
Here's a pic of the progress of the boot armor, I made it a bit longer so it can curve as shown on concept.
And here's the good part! I talked about how many things I've changed and that I didn't have time to test it all on myself. Well, here it is. Everything I could think of - it's finished. I'm so sorry about the lightning on photos and the wierd angles I tired to compensate it with my camera, but it helped only a bit (I want to take photos of the suit and the vest tomorrow in the natural lighting so you could see the right colors). And well, I took all the photos myself, it was a bit hard to place my camera on something high enough and far enough from me. So this is all I've got right now. New vest absolutely saved me - the spacing right now is much better!
(https://pp.userapi.com/c639917/v639917023/61c7f/F-aENcgkedI.jpg)(https://pp.userapi.com/c621700/v621700023/385e6/OlTlYOffLJo.jpg)(https://pp.userapi.com/c639917/v639917023/61c43/H3iDlInwvws.jpg)(https://pp.userapi.com/c621700/v621700929/398b0/hbNZkgbO3KQ.jpg)(https://pp.userapi.com/c639917/v639917023/61c57/K9dpvQWQr_k.jpg)

At first I only tried the armor on myself and only when the armor was on me, I tried my best try in make-up xD

And how could I missed anopportunity to take a photo with a porg ;) (https://pp.userapi.com/c639917/v639917023/61c6b/Q7UJ7BGLlSM.jpg)

Your kit is looking simply fantastic.  The only thing I'm seeing off-hand that needs any adjustment is your cod - you need to make sure that the top of the cod is covered by your belt.  And well done on facing your fears - you did a great job sewing.  And I absolutely love War Machine's upgraded look.   :P

Why should I fix the cod? I think this is only for custom kits and with canon kits you should look at reference pics. And here we are, the cod ends before the belt ;) (http://s11.radikal.ru/i183/1710/21/f174ec88fa80.jpg)

I was looking at some various screen-shots from the Rebels, and the ones I saw suggested that the belt covered the top of the cod.

Digging in a little further, it's less clear.  heh  Some references seem to show that there's a separation between the two, others show that the top of the cod is covered.

For now, just keep up with this awesome kit, and I'll see about getting a definitive answer to you as soon as we can.

Edit:
The consensus is that the cod butts up to, but isn't covered by, the belt.   :)

Alright ;) thanks. Btw it's really funny to see this exact example of her tcw armor for cod reference because this a screenshot from the episode when all Nite Owls and Bo Katan were missing one part of the three-piece cod
And well, if we're talking about episode screenshots for references.. Only in rebels I spotted so much problems with animations.. Sometimes her blasters just move through the armor, or the knife extends from the other side of the gautlent.. :-\

I've talked with a few people from Red Fist Clan and they also gave me some advices on the armor. So here's a short list of fixes I will be doing the next couple of days:
- Shoulders and collar/backplate armor shouldn't overlap
- Cod shape
- Shorten the distance between chest and collar (this will also result in expanding the distance between armor and the belt)
- Repaint the jetpack (noticed a few details that I've missed)
- make suit collar a bit darker
- fix thigh armor attachments
- slightly work on boot armor for better spacing

I fixed what I wanted and made a first step - send the application for Rebel Legion. I'm afraid that some photos could be blurry, because I was taking photos of myself - I will try to find better pictures and then post it here and mb even go for pre-app. So here's close up shots of the entire armor.
First - this is my close up photos that turned out better that the full-body shots:

No word from RL yet, it's a new costume without CRL so I understand why it takes longer than usual.
I've been doing some minor adjustments, and well, here all sides in helmet and without it. Also photos of the westars, I forgot that I didn't posted them finished. Going to send this pack to our Ruus'alor to see if there is anything else...

P.s. Can't even look at pics from two months ago, so many things stand out immediately! That's what I don't like about later stages of the in-progress costume, you take lots of cool photos, and in a mounth you've change the costume so much - it's much better now, but those photos are not as cool as before.. Well, it also means that as soon as I'm finished, I'm going to take even more awesome photos 8)

As of yestarday my Bo Katan is approved by Rebel Legion!
With MMCC it's a bit harder, no crl yet, so I was recommended to wait for the end of the season because something might change. Then there will be CRL for Bo-Katan and I'm good to apply. I don't see how this could change much, mb one more episode (it's rumored that Bo will be in the season finale) will clarify my question about the missile on the jetpack though...I do have some thoughts about maaaay be remaking the jetpack.. just maaaay be if I'm really bored xD
For now I can just sit and wait and post more photos  :P

Hi to all of you again ;)
I forgot to post some of my references that I used and I want to have everything posted in one place, because it's easier to find.
Basically those are parts of the concept that was released before the episodes. But in the episode of Rebels Recon you can see some of it in a better quality. More ref pics is good - but pls be carefull, because some parts of the concept conflict with what you see in the episode. I will post a comparison later.

And I'm back with crafting
The costume wasn't good enough for the 501st and they helped me notice things to improve - so here I am!
1. Backplate
(https://pp.userapi.com/c831508/v831508892/91ecc/3rEWNETpSg8.jpg)
Also was a bit too wide for me and touched the shoulders when it shouldn't have. Cut it along this line from both sides. Going to make the part on the back more accurate, but a bit later.
2. Correct shoulder shape. Left - fixed, right - how it was before. The top should curve from the middle of the armor and I trimmed it a bit for sharper edges.
3. Chest plate
I'm making a diamond way larger because I've noticed that most armors with chest like this have larger diamonds and the chest looks shorter. And again I shorten the chest a bit more. I'm fixing my coins slots - they should be a bit wider and shifted further inward for proper proportioning.
I also adjusted the lower chest part to properly fit and for accuracy reasons.

Preview of how it's looking now, soon I'll update this photo because I'm started painting the parts I've fixed. Yes, I'm going to repaint all armor for more a c c u r a c y.

Also I'm trying to mix the right blue, I use mainly the official palette - it's so hard to pin point the exact blue from the episodes!

You seem to be doing pretty good vod! Getting the perfect color from the episodes would be really tricky though, since the color will change based on lighting and such. I think as long as you get close enough it should be good.

Thanks! I also aim for 501st approval and they are very picky about this.. I sort of found smth in between - a bit lighter/grayish of what I have right now.

I dyed the wig again! And now it has just the right red-ginger tone to it - love it! I had time today to cut and form my new headband - now it's ready for paint and I'm veeery pleased with how it looks.

 thank you so much for your comments, they really mean a lot to me.

The Clean Slate Protocol was initiated this weekend - I've made lots of small adjustments to the armor, because of that and because the colors/weathering wasn't as accurate as they can be, I removed previous layers of paint and did the whole thing again.. It was hard, but I think I've managed to catch the blue tone right this time.
I'm going to do most of the weathering today or tommorow and then post pictures ;)

The colors recommended by 501st:
https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/2140-C
https://www.pantone.com/color-finder?q=Cool+Grey+11+C (this is the main gray, there are also some details that are painted darker)

As I'm trying to wrap my mind about Rebels ending - it won't stop me from crafting.

First, I made my holsters less wide, reference and a comparisson (left - fixed shape, but not repainted yet, right - the old one):

Fixed the back:

And repainting all the armor:

This just an example of what I'm trying to achive with weathering, it's hard to take photos of those chest plates not on my vest:

also that's my new blue and dark-gray color in the natural light:

I noticed that diamond looks small again.. Oh well, I will try those on my vest today and we will see...

Impressive! Chugging along nicely it seems. That new slimmer holster looks great! As for the diamond, even if it is a little small once the armor is back on the vest at least that would be a pretty simply fix compared to everything else you have already done!

Well, I've tried it. This shape could've work for a custom kit mb, but not for Bo-Katan. So I'm trying to do smth with it that will fix the problem. Hoping that it won't take longer than a day to fix.

Also, forgot to post it here before: I've ordered the Darksaber from The PachStore - should be shipped soon *__* Going to add more detailed paint to the hilt once I have it.

Your WIP is still going strong and impressive !

How did you get these paint results ? (The sort of faded use rather than brutally ripped paint) ?  asking for a friend

Thanks ;) I was considering using masks for weathering, but I feel so much better doing this the oldfashioned way. That's why for most of my weathering I just use a thin brush and a slightly lighter acrylic paint with water - it works like a charm.

Progress time:
Fixed the chest shape - took a while and it looks like Frankenstein's monster from the inner side, but everything is all good otherwise. My plates wasn't wide enough at the top and well, I cropped too much of plastic when I was fixing the diamond. I also made new coin slots. This time I want to believe that I won't fix them any more.

Also, as you may see, I've painted most of my armor. Of course shoulders were so much fun to paint.

And shin armor was also quite educating - I couldn't quite get this soot effect on the burned part... So I decided to burn my armor as well. Nothing to grand - just spend a few matches but I love how it looks now.

I didn't want to glue the headband each time, like I did before and like I still do with my headpiece for Ahsoka. So this time I added the rubber to the headband: one part to the sides so it holds tight and the other - to sew it to the wig.

I've also mostly finished with the helmet, there is just one detail left and then I'll post what I have ;)

What is left:
- Resew the attachments on the west and on the flightsuite for my new shaped armor.
- Work on the jetpack (started it this weekend, but still - lot's to be done)
- I want to dye strips on the thigh armor a bit darker
- Finish the gauntlets
- Weathering on the headband and on the hand armor.

Hi again ;)

I think I'm really close this time. Last week I worked hard on the gauntlets and the jetpack. If the gauntlets were easy to fix - it's a whole different story with the jetpack. Had to dissemble it almost completely and do the whole thing again on an old carcass. But it turned out quite good, I think.. And also I've finished all weathering on the other parts. And I think that's it (and mb it's the third time I'm saying this ), Might work with some adjustments, but nothing too major.

P.s. In some relatively "free" time, I started my White Robe Ahsoka   Some in progress shots:
I wonder how the work on CRL is going.. Don't want to wait to long with it :P
I won't have any time during daylight this week to take good pictures, so I woke up today in 5am to take a few shots in the daylight before work - it was really rushed, but I'm sooo happy with how this looks. A bit of preview (uggh I'm a mess in the morning, should pay more attention to the wig next time)  :

After my rushed test fit I made a few side by side comparisons and took some notes.

Yesterday I've stroked the lines on the jetpack a bit, rounded edges on the knees, fixed some shapes on the gauntlets:

There are just a few things I would like to fix before I took new photos for approval. But I'm really pleased with this build even now.

This weekend I took some time to finish everything I wanted and also found a time for not so rushed photos. This is natural lightning from a window on a sunny day and I'm very happy with the results. Sadly I can't wear make-up and the wig while I'm in helmet - what's the point if it's hot, and the wig will be a real mess after it. So I think I'm going to use the bucket when I'm too lazy to do all the make up xD But I love this costume.. Can't wait for the Darksaber to arrive (whispers insanely "my precious"). Also I'm reeeeally hoping that we are going to see the CRL soon, I'm so excited to submit this costume (of course if everything will be up to the standard).

I know I commented on your instagram as well ha but still, impressive work. I really like that jetpack as well. Also, I am sure this is mentioned somewhere on this thread but that is a lot of pages to scroll through again ha what is the device on the side of the right gauntlet supposed to be, just a gauntlet blaster?

Thank you :) There is another build for Bo, there are twice as many pages, I thought my build was kind of modest xD
There is no particular use for it, I always thought those were an antennas of some kind? But I believe the initial goal was to make Bo's armor similar to Boba's. And he has something like this on the left gauntlet from esb version - it's used as a flame thrower housing:

Thank you  :)

About the gauntlets.
I've found a place where you can order pretty accurate gauntlets for Bo-Katan or Ursa Wren, just in case someone will be interested in them - https://www.facebook.com/stormprops/?hc_ref=ARS47qi_xck5HuzcpMfK19FvQ3xne3CNzVJTTOdhAsafpRrGuQXnnLZ7EQBa748KXO4

so far I only see one missing detail, but it's easily fixed (there should be another rectangle on the inner side of the left gauntlet)

April Fool's day is over, but I'm here to bring something funny xD I promised a while ago to post everything I've noticed..
Let's start from the begining.
How does the large heads in the cartoons can fit those helmets so fast and easy. I'm so jealous of this special ability.
Also seconds apart - but the jetpack attaches differently to the backplate.

Going forward, this is so far the best thing I saw.
Forget whole helmets, let's just use masks instead
(https://pp.userapi.com/c846322/v846322958/16167/fdZ9M5eQu8k.jpg)

Same scene, different view. I think it's not pleasent to have a blaster inside your leg. But it could come in handy if you like to shot first  :P Also - boot armor falls through textures, but it's pretty common and I will come back to it later.

This is it for the first part of the episode. Watching the next one:
Hey! I've found a new scene when you can see the whole jetpack for a second. Sadly, next shot and the missile is gone.

Another special ability - the cod can phase through the leg. You can walk way more easily now xD
(https://pp.userapi.com/c846322/v846322958/1613f/GM0SOngQ2jw.jpg)

I've posted this before, but I'm missing the jetpack missile, of course I'm going to mention everytime you can see it.

This one I'm leaving here because you can see how much the armor can deform when someone moves in Rebels. But hey, If you haven't noticed before, also the knife can extend.

As for the armor. I like that you can actually see - armor doesn't fit very well. Also, if you are interested the inside of the Bo's armor also painted. You can see the other side of shoulder.

Ouch, I think it hurts
(https://pp.userapi.com/c846322/v846322958/16121/BHkpo56Xr-8.jpg)

yay, the knife can extend... to the other side of the gauntlet as well xD It's important to not cut yourself when you hand moves.
And it's normal again
(https://pp.userapi.com/c846322/v846322958/1610d/hHWRqG1G9OI.jpg)

It's so easy to walk when your boot armor can fall through textures. SO MANY TIMES
(https://sun1-2.userapi.com/c824700/v824700815/f0c1e/pE4uSAPiROI.jpg)

Thanks for your time ;) I hope this put a smile on someone.

Happy MandoMonday! My Darksaber arrived a week ago and it's amazing. The Pach Store did a great job, it has Flash on Clash thing (I chose Ice blue option, but it's more dark-green actually that fits with the effect of lightsaber clash we see in films) and two soundboards - one with Darksaber sounds and the other with regular lightsaber sound.
It's great, but it needed a lot of detailed painting. I've just finished it  and tried my best to match sreen ref pics. And I can't look away from this beauty.

Hi to all!

It's a start of the convention season for me again. Already had a wonderful opportunity to test updated costume in the field. Was really glad to meet amazing Sabine and Satine - when you are a canon character, of course you would love taking a photo with your supposed sister. (also it's so strange how different the wig looks depending on the light and post editing)

I was hoping to finish lights by that time, but never got past that gauntlet I posted before. I had two weeks and I've finally done all I wanted - again xD

1. I actually repainted most of the armor again - I saw the photos from the con and decided that the blue should be a slightly different shade, but I think you won't notice the change even..

2. Did some side by side photos of my helmet, compared them to the references and really worked on getting the details of the weathering right. Even noticed a part that I always thought as a light effect not weathering. But after close examination of the references it was confirmed. There is a large gray-ish area at the back of the dome.

3. LIGHTS! I'm the christmas tree now xD Really should have been a bit more careful doing those, but I like the result especially on the headband and on the chest.

Wanted to have new photos from each side by now, but I made a mistake and didn't change ISO settings for those - they became really lighted ??? But I have another con tomorrow! So I will probably have some time to take a few photos there or sometime before ;)

Bam! Unexpected update! Thanks for comments and Happy, MandoMonday ;)

My previous shots:

Since then I made lots of minor changes (again). Apart from comparing weathering details with the reference a few more times, I've started making new pouches (although they still need lot's of work, but it's a first step). Need to work on the edges and add a few seams because stitching detail on the box flaps should be visible for level 2 approval in 501st.

I'm in the middle of removing the straps from my thigh armor - it's a common consensus that those are part of the flightsuit as the areas on the hands and legs.
Really wanted to take new pics with updated costume today, but my sewing machine broke  ???

As for thigh armor I've also made a thin cut/slot down the middle of the armor to where the holsters attach. For a long time I was thinking that it was just a line there, but it's not.

I really love my new rangefinder and it's wide metalic stalk. My last stalk was made of metal too, but it was too thin to be screen accurate. Let me remind you - it's a scratch build, so the stalk is actually a door handle xD It was a great find for two reasons: 1) metalic stalk has much lower chance of being broken than the plastic one (learned that on experience); 2) because it's a door handle - I had no trouble making a secure attachment to the helmet.

Hello to you all =)
I am currently fixing up a few things and thought I might update this topic.

Firstly, I've made a few changes way back in autumn:
1) Added stiches to the pouches for more realistic look.
2) I've removed the straps from my thigh armor - it's a common consensus that those are part of the flightsuit as the areas on the hands and legs.

3) Already said that I've made this cut out line on the thing armor, but I didn't have an image then:

How it lookes now and on 501st CRL (yay, got approved with Infamous level :P):

And before I submit my application to MMCC, I want to make everything to the point I enjoy.
I really don't like some of proportions of my gauntlets. I wanted to have a printed ones for a while and working on those as of now.
They do have some flaws due to an error in printing, but I'm almost done making them more smoth.

And I was really unhappy with my electronics. I didn't know much a year ago when I did it, but right now I have a bit more skill. I'm replacing everything with smaller, brighter and thinner diodes. So far so good.

Just send today's pictures for approval ^^
I've updated my album with all armor pieces and side by side photos if anyone wants to look at details of each armor piece - https://ibb.co/album/dvK78v
Something I'm very happy of is the new gauntlets - they turned out awesome. I'm almost done adding lights in those.

It's an April Storm's model, but i didn't have all the parts printed and did some myself using sintra. Also, I needed to hide all the seams and remove the possibility of ever have these to open, because it's a very bad design from Rebels xD In the cartoon the seams are partial and serve only as a decoration.

You should be able to have the hinges/seams in them, or getting them on and off will be a little rough...

Luckily, that's not a problem, at least for me ;) My previous gauntlets were done the same way. I'm just highlighting the wiered design choices of the animated armor  ;D

Good luck with your app! :)

Thanks!
