Title: Flightsuit!
Post by: ThomasFett on Jan 06, 2020, 07:20 PM
Hi all, would anyone mind just checking these coveralls? https://www.screwfix.com/p/general-purpose-coverall-navy-blue-medium-48-chest-31-l/125fh
Would they be ok once I've sewn up the pockets and such?

Also, due to wanting a specific colour, is it ok to dye the suit to get my desired colour? If so, has anyone done this before?
Thanks in advance!

That sort of suit is generally accepted in the Vok'Chi. Depending on the fit it may need tailoring to make it more snug than they usually are, we're looking for a close fit, not too baggy. Colour wise, if your going to dye it another colour, be aware that if it's polyester you need a specific dye I believe, and the base colour will always be blue if you use the linked suit, so bear that in mind when selecting your dyes. You will also need to cover up/remove any pockets, pouches that may be visible when the plates are on.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not entirely sure on what the fit will be like, haven't worn coveralls in a while. I'm not very knowledgeable on tailoring, but it's all the fun of learning new things.  As for the dying I'm not too sure about that either, it all depends on the design I have I guess, but I haven't got a firm idea just yet.
Removing pockets and such should be easy enough but will you not still be able to see where the pocket has been stitched up?

so with those in particular, it's an 80/20 polyester cotton blend, and it's already a dark navy color. this will essentially be impossible to dye, as removing the existing color would pretty much destroy the material it's made of. if you want to dye a suit to a particular color, try and find one in white or tan, preferrably in at least 50/50 polycotton.

Ah yes I see. After a little more research and a look in the halls of knowledge I think I'm gonna purchase a flightsuit from this store: https://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/outdoor-workwear/boilersuits-overalls.html
This is because it was recommended. As I'm not sure what my design is going to be yet it all depends whether I'm gonna need to dye it. One of my designs involves a dark grey suit so I may not need to yet.

I think some of those on that site are 100% cotton. Is that better?
