Title: Wad'e Tay'haai build
Post by: J'arron Vau on Jan 28, 2021, 11:32 PM
Hey folks,

So my plan is to build the best Wad'e kit I can. If I go off the description in the books, the attached art piece commissioned by Wade Scrogham (the dude Traviss based Tay'haai on), and my best guesses as to armour types (the Cuy'val Dar are modern era and most of the Cuy'val Dar action figures use repainted Jango and Boba bits), I'm hoping to have something as close as we're ever going to get without visual representation.

And although I like the look of the black strapping on the leg armour in contrast with the grey flightsuit, I'm going to assume since there's no CRL and Wad'e is not a canon character, that the standard CRL rules about armour strapping apply.

Wish me luck. I might be biting off more than I can chew  :D

I commend you for blazing the trail!

A couple things to consider with this character.  Do we have official LFL images and/or artwork for Wad'e?  If we do, can we see the costume from all angles?

You're absolutely right about building this kit and making the adjustments for the CRL, but without the above things, it's really tough for us to write a CRL/BRL for Wad'e Tay'haai.

Should that stop you from trying?  Absolutely not.  Knock out the build and make sure you adhere to the CRLs and you won't have any issues with having an approved kit.

We do not :D

We have nothing but a few passing references in the Republic Commando series about his beskar'gam being purple like the bes'bev he carries on his belt, the fact that he has an ancient bronzium spear, and the knowledge that as a Mandalorian of the same era as Skirata, Jango, Bralor, et al. he'll most likely have similar armour.

There also may have been an action figure, like the Skirata and Bralor ones, but I can't confirm.

The sketch is one that Wade Scrogham, the inspiration for Traviss's Tay'haai character, had commissioned based on his discussions with Karen Traviss.

Thanks Mi'ix. I saw him listed under the acceptable characters for the "Legends Brigade" here http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=79146.0

and I think he was under-used in the books..... so I want to build it  :like:

Hey! Go for it!

There is probably some info I need to update in there, tbh.

If the standard CRLs apply, then the black strapping is still approvable as long as it's black leather or black nylon/polyurethane webbing.  It's only ELASTIC that has to match the flightsuit, and even then, flightsuit-colored elastic is only allowed on the knees.  If it were my build, I'd use black leather straps to match the ammo belt.

Ah yes, you are 100% correct and I need to re-read the CRLs and pretend I was never a Ruus  ;D

Good. The straps appeal to me.
