Title: Question - "Basic Gauntlets" Canon Approval question for TCW DW
Post by: Fitz Kal'ad on Jun 08, 2021, 03:14 PM
I have a question about:

We have multiple recruits building Canon TCW Deathwatch commando Grunts/lientenants/Airborne.

Up until recently there wasn't a very accurate set of Gauntlets for the male version with the raised front platform available. I've noticed that there is a new file on the MMCC's store front called "Basic Gauntlet" that appears to be a fairly accurate representation (minus the Comm/Shield Generator device). (big thanks to the individual that donated that file, it means I don't have to keep modeling the one I was making!)

The set appears to have visible built in hinges however. (I've been told that that type of hinge would not be approvable in the 501st)

I want to make sure this set with the hinges will be approvable for MMCC canon TCW Death Watch "male" kits before I tell my recruits yes/no.

Oya Vod!

Thanks for the question.

I think a good start is the review of the CRLs (from http://mandalorianmercs.org/death-watch-grunt-tcw-season-2/), which state as follows;
Quote
Gauntlets
The gauntlets are a completely custom design.
They are a set of clamshell cylinder gauntlets.
There is a notch on the top which is approximately 3-inches wide and 1-inch long.
In front of it is a long box that is ½-inch high, 3-inches wide, and runs ½-inch from the edge of the elbow and wrist of the gauntlet.
Another ½-inch box fits on the top that is approximately 3/8ths of the length of the original box.
The edges all fade with a 60-degree edge except for the top that is a 45-degree angle.
There are two small rectangles on the top outside of each gauntlet.
They are flat silver/light grey in color and slightly weathered through.

Using the 3D print file offered by the MMCC would satisfy the requirement for those gauntlets. The hinges shouldn't be an issue for approval here with the MMCC, as it does specifically say that clamshell style gauntlets are a requirement. This would mean that hinges are ok.  The fact they're built in to the gauntlets means that you would have to find a bit of wire that fits through the recess section where the hinge comes together. I've seen some folks use metal cloths hangers wire and it fits with minimal need for drilling.

Hope this helps!
