Title: Clear coats that don't dull chrome?
Post by: Senra Qiin on Jul 30, 2021, 09:29 PM
As the title states, I can't find a clear coat that doesn't dull my chrome.

Not sure if it helps, but the chrome's brand is Rust-oleum and I've already tried the Krylon clear coat. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.  :D

I've heard that the main way to go is a 4k clear coat, but that gets a bit expensive, and part of the process that allows it to maintain its shine means it has to be used within a day or two of cracking the seal, so you'd want to have all your chrome ready to clear coat at once. Never done it myself, so maybe wait to see what others who may have done it say.

Edit: or just go polished metal  ;D

So I personally haven't done it but I know some people who do chrome stuff that swear by Future Floor Polish (Pledge Floor Care Multi-Surface Finish in the US).  It gives it a clear coat with out taking out the chrome.  It can be brushed on or run through an air brush if you've got one.

Just throwing that out there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I decided to go with Mod Podge after testing out the options, and it worked surprisingly well! I figured Id mention it here just in case others had the same question. :) Im finally on the home run of this kit!
