I'm an aspiring Star Wars/Mandalorian/cosplay fan out of N. TX.
I have this as my concept so far:
I'm also planning to have some green highlights or stripes on some of the black parts.

So far so good. Honestly, I would mod the Nintendo blasters a bit beyond just filling the screw holes. Add a scope maybe? Or some greeblies. SOmething to make it look more Swarzy and less Nintendo. It's a great base for a Star Wars pistol. But, just like the Thompson and the flare guns etc, it needs some dressing up to make it fit in universe.
-
very cool, i got mine today as well.
-
The domino on the diamond is interesting. What's the story with that?
-
I don't know if I'd leave the domino white with black dots, just screams non star wars to me (unless someone knows an in universe refferance of domino's being in star wars)I don't know if I'd leave the domino white with black dots, just screams non star wars to me (unless someone knows an in universe reference of domino's being in star wars). It’s one of those things that since Voss pointed out, I can look away from. But if there isn’t an in universe reference, I think if you changed the white of the domino to the grey color in your battle damage, then it wouldn’t distract from the rest of the armor.
Oh and as for your blasters, I’d say file down or cut the front sight off and then add some small scopes. It would give them the Cad Bane feel then with his blasters.

Overall, very nice start so far.
Have a good one,
Hagen

Is indeed a good start ;D. Personally, I kind of hate scopes on handguns, never got the point of it. I'd second filing down the sights, and maybe just add a few little greebles so that those of us in the mid-twenties and older bracket won't look and say "hey, duck hunter guns" :P. Otherwise solid start, and I like the battle damage on the torso plates; it has a nice worn and used but not beaten to haraan look.

you've never done pracical or precission pistol shooting then. hitting targets at rifle range with a hangun.
-
Nope, all of my ranged shooting has been done with a rifle ;D. I was intel; we didn't get handguns. Hell, we barely got any ammunition. I qual'd with an M16 out to about 300 yards in the AF, but my limited pistol experience has been in the 50 and under yard range.

So Far My Friend your amor is on its way!
-
I love the plaque on the nintendo blasters, but they still look like nintendo blasters
-
I would put a generic scope on both...

Rather than create an entire new thread, I figured since I am still working on my first build it would okay to resurrect this one since it's fairly short anyway.
I've moved three times since I originally thought I'd start some armor but I'm now in a better position to actually make something and have an itch to get rolling after seeing some Mercs and 501st at Dallas Fan Days a few weeks ago.
I've misplaced or outright lost most of my previous progress (some trash can armor parts mainly) so I'm going to be starting pretty much from scratch now.
Here's the design I'm going with so far:
I think I'm going to have a green stripe on the chest and on the helmet as well. Kama may end up being a cape. Also thinking of going Recon or Assassin eventually.
I'm actually going to do a concept action figure of the design first so that I can get a good idea of if it looks good 3-dimensionally before committing to a full build.
Sorry again if this post breaks rules by bringing this thread back.
-
I'm liking the green strip idea. I think it would look pretty good with tbe right amount of weathering
-
Okay, here's another version of the concept with the stripes and kama added and Photoshopped over a black series Boba concept figure.

For weapons (since I'm thinking Assassin as my specialization) I plan on having a retractable blade that come out of the side of the left gauntlet, poison dart launcher on the right, and a blaster hidden under the kama. I'm also thinking that I'll have a jump jet on the back for quick getaways.
I'm also fiddling around with the idea of having the right gauntlet have a built in datapad sort of like a PipBoy from Fallout, but SWarsy and based on 70s tech.
I still don't have a name yet...
-
For the jump jet, I'm thinking of taking the best aspects of several different jetpacks from video games and merging them into a streamlined design.

I think that that is a good idea but to be careful with making it too recognizable to other sources outside of the SW universe. The crl's are very strict on cross over aspects. However, if you can make it work, which I'm sure you will, it can look really awesome. I'm also really loving the paint concept that you have going on. Can't wait to see some progress, vod

Here's my Jump Jet design so far:

Good to see you on the forums. I was the merc in the black and gold armor at fan days, and if you want your local clan we are all over in the Murraan area, which is right here > http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?board=122.0

cool jet pack design ;)
-
Are there rules on materials I use for the jet pack? I'm thinking of using EVA foam mats for the main portions of the body for weight and durability. I ask because I think I remember reading something about it not being okay for armor parts.
-
Don't think EVA is able to be used for anything
-
From what I've read and seen, it's not acceptable for anything
-
Ah okay. Thanks. I'll seek another material then.
-
Just some modifications made to my design (size and buttons).
I've decided that the buttons on the pack will be like the rocker switches on Darth Vader's chest box, but a little smaller.
Since I can't use EVA foam, (I guess I should have realized that) I plan on using card coated in resin and backed in fiberglass for this and probably my armor as well. The stuff I'm using is called chipboard, which I think is a bit thicker than the 110 lb cardstock others use. I haven't been able to find a measurement of cardstock's thickness, but I have some of the 110 lb that I've used in the past for pepakura and it seems a lot thinner than the chipboard I'm getting. I've been drawing up blueprints in Inkscape and I'll hopefully have a prototype ready to laser cut in a few days or by the weekend.
-
I like this :D
-
I've been collecting supplies lately.
I've got the cardstock/cardboard I'm going to use for the hard parts and I'm collecting some electronic components for some lights and decorations.
Put together a Boba style chest light setup, still working on the Arduino coding to run it though.

Hopefully I can get to at least cutting out my armor plates this week and finishing my mockup action figure.
-
Decided I should figure out if the templates I have for my armor are the right scale. They look alright to me.

Don't forget the collar plate, helps get the plates in the right spot. Trust me, was one thing recommended to me. It looks like it might need to be moved up, but on the sunny side they don't look too wide.

Here's the jumpjet in 3 dimensions as a 1:12 action figure part.
