Title: Naasad Tal's WIP - NEW BLASTERS - 8 Jan 2016
Post by: Naasad Tal on May 13, 2010, 02:59 PM
Hey guys, Im still new here but I have made some headway & thought Id Share where im at. I havent come up with a name for him yet & I havent totally settled on a design, But I started on my Bucket last night & wanted to show it off

after talking with you guys & staring at the 2 pics I have decided now to proceed with this design...

& here is the progress I made last night. I found some templates & started cutting them out on poster board & this is what I came up with...

I need to lengthen the bottom about 1/2" to cover my face a bit more & I thought about using 1/8" ABS plastic to make it out of but thought it might be a little tough to get the dome to come out right. I might also just cover my Poster Board form in Fiberglas, Resin Or Bondo (depending on price at the time), let me know how you guys feel about these materials

I'm gonna be starting on my Armor this weekend, so any advice there would be a huge assist.

The Flack Vest I think I can handle on my own but have NO idea on where to go for my Flight Suit so if someone could point me toard a local place to find one (for cheap) I would appreciate it.

anyway thats where I am at this point, my goal is to have the majority of my suit donw by the last day of PhoenixCon but we all know how plans go sometimes.

Hope you guys enjoy & I would really appreciate ANY criticisim, advice or tips that you guys can provide.

Thanx for lookin,

Chris

My best suggestion if you do the first one is you put a lot of your own flair into it because I've seen that picture passed around quite a bit.

I love the desert camo colours especially down here in Arizona. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Get your basic parts done and then start working out the detailing from the picture. That is a beasty awesome set btw, I've seen quite a few people talk about doing it, if you pull it off, kudos to you mate!

Thanx for the comments...the body is gonna be wood with some filler over it to make it not look like wood. the small cylinders under the barrell are going to be 1" dowels & I havent really figured out the "revolver drum" yet.

Try PVC Pipe (my personal favorite) for the cylinder

That looks like Vash the Stampede's revolver from Trigun. I know a guy who sells that for thirty bucks on eBay.

OK guys...After much deliberation & thought I think I have FINALLY picked out a Mandalorian Name:

Name: Naasad Tal (NAHS-ahd tahl)
Meaning: Un-Blooded (Ya I know...simple...but rememebr the KISS adage "Keep It Simple Stupid")
               Naasad = None, Not Any
               Tal = Blood

Let me know what you guys think

As far as build updates goes I am still working on my blasters & I started my Lightsaber Hilt last night so I hope to have some pics up soon...

Thanx,

Chris

you can seal it with resin. You can sand it after it dries to get the smooth metal finish as well. I find that model airplane putty is awesome as well super lightweight and very durable. Takes paint well and you can sand it also.

Hey guys, sorry for the late update...I made some progress on my kit with my Armor Party on the 13th, but was on vacation last week & didnt have access to my computer...so here is where I'm at so far...

Bucket, chest & shoulders...

Bucket...first layer of glass layed, need another kit to finish it
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/BucketinProgress1.jpg)

Chest & shoulders...need to be shaped & maybe trimmed down a bit
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Armor-Inprogress1.jpg)

Back Plate...DEFINETLY needs to be trimmed down & maybe reshaped a little
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/BackPlate1.jpg)

...so that's where I am now. I should be getting the extra $$$ that I was SUPPOSED to get last payday, when I get payed again on Friday & then I'll be able to get my soft parts (Flight suit, fabic for jacket, etc) & T-Visor ordered. let me know what you guys think.

Thanx,

Chris

The backplate may be a tad long. But it looks to need widening/less bend on the bottom before i'd cut. Have the fit right first, then alter the look.

Ya thats what I meant by a little more shaping...it looks like it doens quite come in close enough on the bottom, I'll get it fit better before I start triming it down though...thanx for the comments guys!

OK so I have been thinkin about my rifle & here is the idea I have

the one Im going to make is the bottom one...

this is what I have so far...

...coming along slowly, but it's coming along...what i have planned is to build up certain areas on the gun to give it some depth then Im gonna wrap the hand grip in black suede & add a "cheek pad" out of black suede to the butt stock. It is gonna be a sniper converter & I will be able to add an extra barrel (about 2 extra feet) to it as well as a silencer (both will be mounted to the main body) as well as some wrappings around the whole gun to diffuse the look a little. I have a red dot site as well as a scope that will both get put on the gun as well as a few other greebles to Star Wars it up a bit.

...anyway let me know what you guys think.

Thanx for looking,
Chris

I like the rifle, but it looks a little too Halo to me.

So to fix that, add a backwards scope and some greebs. :P

But its looking good so far. Keep it up ;D

No doubt those guns look cool but, they dont look Swarzy in the least bit. I'd rather see an unmodded Nerf (must be modded per CRL's) over those. Not because theyre not cool but because theyre not in universe. They look to Halo as previously mentioned. Honestly, I would look at some common or even EU Star Wars weapons (use a site like wookieepedia). You dont have to copy one butlook at them and how they are designed. Then redesign your creation.
Title: Re: My Mandalorian Build - Bucket & armor progress made...FINALLY!
Post by: Cdr. Ch'ren Jud'se on Jun 24, 2010, 11:43 AM
ok A'den, i don't really see how those are not better than unmodded Nerf :o I mean, i get the blast suprsor looks a little haloish, but that can be changed easily, to a laser supprsor... Then he and add a few EL wires to the center, so it runs down to the muzzle. Then, just add a power pack to the side of it (almost like an RC's carbine) and then it would look very swarsy
Title: Re: My Mandalorian Build - Bucket & armor progress made...FINALLY!
Post by: Hondo Karr on Jun 24, 2010, 11:56 AM
No Ch'ren, that wouldnt make it look more Swarzy, you need to go study as well...  8)

I say unmodded, and that's jokingly BTW, Nerf because at least those have SOME Star Wars credit from overuse. The other gun looks other serial which is a CRL violation.

You could easily, i'd think, mod what you have so far into a Verp. There are a few threads floating around that you can reference for that.

Thats actually what I was thinkin that it would be once I was done, a modified Verp of sorts...like a said it still has a LONG way to go before it's what I want...with the list of mods I have in mind it was going to look nothing like the one in the pic, so I'll keep working on it & show pics as I go, hopefully once I get it done it'll pass the CRL's

thanx again guys

I play Halo a lot and I'm not seeing it. Given I'm no expert, but those do not remind me of Halo. Given they do not scream Star Wars, but that doesn't mean they can't be used as a base. Best weapon to try and replicate is the Verp and I'd say the sniper version of the DC-17.

Post by: Naasad Tal on Jul 01, 2010, 02:08 PM
ok guys kind of an update, but not really as im redoing some things I had already started...

had to redo my bucket cuz after the first layer of glass the original was WAY to small (the bottom of the visor cuts right thru the middle of my eyes, should make a good one for my little mando, shes already wanting one)...so here is the new one, did a 10% increase on the WOF templates & now it is big on me but after glass & lining it'll be just fine...I need to rework the dome then I'll be glassing it tonight
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/NewBucket1.jpg)

& now my re-designed rifle (thanx guys for catching the CRL violation before it got to far), I used the original rifle as a base as I have already got a start on it & have come up with this design, which is kinda my original design & the Verp in a bastardized version of themselves, the foregrip is free floating under the barrel & the there will be a small dowel next to the main barrel to add effect...more greebles will be added & im thinking about adding a 2nd smaller scope to the front ot the barrel behind the silencer & there will be a big magazine sticking straight out from the other side...hope this works for getting past CRLs

Hey guys...just wanted to give you a quick update. over the weekend I got my vest started, I need to get the Velcro to finish it up & to attach the plates (once I get them shaped...come on Chris, you slacker ;)) anyway, it's not much but it's progress
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Vest2.jpg)

Laid down the plates on it for size comparrison, need to redo my collar to fit the vest's neck line a bit better...

Still a long way to go, got a few plates still left to cut out (namely my shins, knees, boot, collar & back pieces), let me know what you guys think!

Also before any one asks the sleeves are missing for a reason...the shoulder plates are going to go on the upper part of my Trench so in the interest of comfort & work load I left the sleeves off my flack vest.

Thanx,
Chris

Hey all...not a big update but I got bored the other day & finally put down on paper what Naasad will look like

Here is what I came up with...

At the meeting on the 17th I was talking to a couple folks & they  thought I should go with a sleeveless Trench, so that is what I've done. I will be putting the sleeves on my vest after all & the shoulder bells will peek out from under the trench. I also have my sniper rifle & one of my blasters in there. I plan on having a smaller jetpack, built for quick bursts of speed as well as flight.

Not much but let me know what you guys think...

Thanx

These are cool! Are you just taking the bottom of one and putting it on top of the other? If so, ingenious! Love it and will have to make some, if so...

But I want to show then off so last weekend I decided I want to make a bandoleer so I can proudly display my creation. Cool beans and I love how your dets turned out. best thing about them is when they go off everything in the 20m blast radius smells pretty, as well as begin demolished =)

but to be serious , those are awesome

ok guys...one thing you need to know about me is that I am NEVER satisfied. as such I was working on a design for a female friend in colorado & the design i came up with for her peaked my interest so much that I had to draw one up for myself. I am still going to be a desert mando (we both will be), but the Duster wasnt really screaming "Desert Mando" at me (although I still plan to make it & use it as an upgrade later on). this is the design i have come up for us, our armor will be different & the wraps will be made out of different materials to seperate us slightly but I wanted us to kinda look the same, not carbon copies but similar, A Mando couple if you will (its part of our backstory).

so here is my new design, my blasters & rifle will be still be there.

& the one I drew up for her (I'll let her do the WIP)

let me know what you guys think about the designs & how you feel about Mando Couples dressing similar

Thanx for looking

ok guys...time for an update, not much but here you go...

Here's my armor as it stands, all pieces are shaped & most have been painted with a coat of silver (the rest will come when I get some more $$$), I had to re-shape my shins & boots so that's why they arent painted yet. I was able to get some "battle damage" in my chest & back too.

would love to hear your thoughts & critiques on how it looks (dont mind the BDU blouse, it's only there for sizing purposes in the absence of a flightsuit...which I'll be ordering THIS WEEKEND!)

the tips and corners of plates look like they could use a tch more shapping, but who am i to talk? i dont even have plates yet  ;) the top outside corners of you back plates jumped out at me the most. im lovin' the paint job. :D
Title: Re: My Mandalorian Build - updated 1 Sept - Vest & armor...DONE!!!

I'd try to close the backplates spacing by about 1/2 of what it is. Other than that it looks pretty good. Either add alittle more shaping to the outsides of the chest plates or thicken up the vest by using some batting to make it thicker to fill out the plates better.

ok guys...sorry for the long delay in posts/updates & this is not going to much of one (basically just to let you all know I aint dead!). I havent been able to work much on my Kit lately (losing your job & taking a $4.50/an hour pay cut will do that), but I have been working slowly on it. Have been bondoing & sanding my bucket the last couple days & my blasters will probably be done by Friday. I also finished my sniper rifle (which can be seen in the armory here, http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=30951.0 (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=30951.0)). Unfortunately I will not be able to make my deadline of Oct 16th as my fundage is desperately low atm, but rest asured I have not given up on this & will continue to plug along at it. I hope to have some progress pics to share of my bucket soon & when I get my blasters finished I will post those in the armory as well.

Thanx for looking,

Chris

ok guys, another brief update (no pics yet though as I still have no access to a computer) since the CRL changes ive had to change the material for my jacket & loin cloth/girth belt, im going to be using a  dark brown "fashion denim" for all items. ive started work on my gauntlets & did a quick test fit of my girthbelt/loin cloth using some black duckcloth I had from my starkiller costume, I'll get those pics up as soon as I can. I couldnt decide what items I wanted to put on my gaunts so I put em all on, below is the load-out for them:

left gaunt:
-wrist comp (will have full QWERTY board with mando'a letters replacing the english ones)
-dart launcher in front just behind my wrists which holds 5 darts
-net launcher mounted on bottom half of gaunt

right gaunt:
-poison kit holding 2 syringes (no needles) & a few viles of different colored liquids
-another dart launcher in front with another 5 darts
-on the bottom of this one will be 5 mini rockets
-oh and of course your standard issue flamethrower (Boba style)

I also have my gunbelt planned out. Ima do a double Han Solo style rig, with 6-8 pouches split evenly on either side of the front buckle, on my right side ill have 2 dets, on the left will be a droid caller as well as some other random greebs, attached to the back "buckle" will be a stormy style canister which'll serve 2 purposes: it'll be my flamethrowers fuel tank, but will also be a place to stash my shades when im not wearing them ;)

ok that's it for now, not much, just wanted to get you guys opinions on my plans & let you know, im still working

thanx for looking,

Chris

ok guys, here they are...the pics I have been promising...

Test fit of Girth Belt:

Belt Design:

Gauntlet progress made:

Droid Caller (threw this together in about an hour):

the girth belt was just some black duck cloth I had & wanted to see what it looked like, the finished belt/loin cloth will be brown, but lemme know what you guys think of the girth belt placement, I think that the belt itself needs to be narrower & the loin cloth needs to be wider.

Also would like some feed back on the belt design, it is going to be made out of leather for the gunslinger look I have going on

& as always, any critiques & advice is welcome on anything I post up here...I should be able to get more regular updates as I have a relatively steady means of computer access.

Thanx for looking,

Chris

Ok guys here we go with the progress & completed pics ive gotten since I posted an official update...

First, my helmet...still in progress but makin progress...
Still gotta ways to go, but if I can get over my fear of it, maybe I can get it finished up (or mostly) this week. I got the welding shield for the visor as well as the ear pieces & all the other odds & end greebs im gonna use on it

Next, my right gauntlet...
Just gotta attach the feed tube for the flamethrower...the left gauntlet still has, a aways to go yet

Now, my gunbelt...gotta small design change (compare to above pic)
Still gotta get the pouches (how they comin Josh?) & gotta mount the dets & flamethrower fuel tank

Got some new "toys"...a hold out blaster which sits in a cross draw holster on my gunbelt
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/4-8B604119-687108-800.jpg)
& I was thinkin one day "I got close range covered as well as  reach out & touch someone, but no mid-range weapons", so I redesigned & rebuilt my rifle, & without furthet adeu, I give you "The Beast 2.0"
I moved the "windage computer" to the left side with the canister, put a removable power pack on the right & it now has interchangable barrels, still got the 36in one to reach out with, but it also has a 13in for a more verp look & feel...my adika wanted to pose with it...
...how could I say no ;)

& finally got my flight suit...
Also got the fabric for my trench & girthbelt/loincloth thing, got those knocked out  & did a quick test fit...

Still gotta ways to go, but as I said, still makin progress...lemme know what you guys think, as always comments & critiques welcome

Thanx for lookin,

Chris

Jedi robe? --> Jedi Mando?    That's the first thing that crossed my mind, ner vod. I LOVE everything, but I hope there are altercations planned for the robe....  well, if the App team thinks it's too close to jedi mando, that is.

Especially lovin' the gaunts and verp.  :)

Thanx for comments guys, as for naasad being a jedi mando, hes only force sensitive, full jedi mandos are not allowed by the crls. I guess with the hood  & the colors of my kit my jacket does bare a resemblance to a jedi robe but its not...My guys a gunslinger/assassin who works mainly in the desert & the jacket is a duster with a hood (see the first pic on the first post for my original inspiration)

Again, thanx for the comments & I hope to have more pics up soon

Why is it every time someone see's a robe they think Jedi...
First off it has no arms/sleeves, second why is it only Jedi can wear robes?
Where is this rule written?
Do you see a light saber?
Do you see him waving his hand?

Lets all work together to get over this ridiculous stereo type.

Chris You have done an amazing Job when I saw the picture with the robe I thought WOW! That Looks Cool! you continue to out due yourself as always. Keep up the good work you Kit is looking amazing and you'll be Official in no time. "even with the robe"

I thought, "hooded trench vest" first, actually. But Solus has a point.

My favorite part is definitely your gauntlets. I was considering something like that earlier, and now that I've seen yours, I'm pretty set on that idea. Keep up the awesome work! :)

First off (1) The gun belt is amazin ! Where can i get one ? (2) The Verp look's great . (3) Weathering is spot on ! (4) Love the robe etc ... But i would go with a cod piece , other wise your kit look's Great , Plus i think your attention to detail is brilliant , well done . I look forward to seeing this finished  ;)

I'll disagree with Thomas and Corr... first thing I thought when I saw it was Jedi-Mando... mostly because of the hood and the color. It reminds me of the deviant art pic of the hooded Mando with the lightsaber eveyone on Facebook likes to recolor as their RP character.

Overall, I think it looks really good however, I definatly think it's too fabric heavy.

IMHO I would ex the hood but thats up to you. At least take a few inches off the bottom of the coat. And add one of those slits in the back at the bottom to give it a more trench coat look.
Other than that its looking good.

The pick is the "arctic assassin" pic from deviant art (its in the first post on this thread), but I think as it was suggested originally A'den that, ive added my own flair to the design, as for the colors, im in the desert gotta do desert-y colors

I appreciate all the feedback so far, keep it coming guys!

He posted here for all to see so there  :P

I understand the idea of using fabrics for a variety of things such as enviromental camo. However, a straight cut, singleo color cloak wouldn't do that as well as something multicolored. I also understand the use of it to keep cool. However, 1 in Arizona except for this year's Fiesta Bowl Parade, in armor it's going to make the heat issue worse, not help deflect it and 2. "in universe" the armor's sealed and self cooled.

The more armor that shows the better, the more armor that's covered by fabric the less Mando it looks. I think if you added a cod and lost the loincloth that would help. Loincloths while way more comfortable than cod plates seldom if ever looks as good.

Cyrus' comment on the trench and hood are good idea's as well.

I need to disagree here , i think the robe look's good ! but i said before it need's a cod piece . Plus if there is either thigh's , knee's and shin armour it will look sweet , boot plates etc ! Im liking this  ;D

Just wanted to clear up a couple concerns that some folks had...

1st, the heat in AZ...the material is a light breatheable linen & doesnt add, much if any, extra heat or weight to my kit

2nd, the amount of fabric...yes it is alot of fabric, but it could worse, I deliberately chose not to do sleeves for this reason. As for using it to cover up armor, thats the point, on a desert planet (where my character works) like say, Tatooine, the native populice (tusken raiders, etc) wear layers to protect from sandstorms & the like, my jacket serves this purpose as well as concelement in a crowd, even though the armor may be conceled for the most part, it is all still there & when I submit my app, I was planning on doing the pics without the jacket so the armor can be evaluated for what it is.

3rd I absolutely hate the cod piece so I want to keep the loincloth,  I know, that it adds even more fabric but I think that it adds a little extra over the top uniqueness to my kit

I actually will make 2 of the  changes to the jacket that Cyrus suggested...ill keep the hood but maybe shorten it (although the pic is without boots & with them on the bottom of the jacket is about  2in off the deck) & then ill do the slit up the back, itll go from the bottom of the jaclet to about my waist

Thank you all for the comments & advice, I truly appreciate everything being said aboug my kit whether its good or bad, so please it coming

& to Kel T, the gunbelt came from my own head, with a little bit of  inspiration from Han Solo's...but im glad you like it ;)

At least you have a plan lol.

I did a Tuskin based Mando for my son. Gave him a kama and loincloth (bleh   :-X ) but, it works with the kit. I also gave him a shemagh which rides around his neck but could wrap the helmet as well.

One thing about fabric... it's a tricky beast.... heavy fabrics look by far the best, more "realistic" to the movies but, they add alot of heat. Lightweight fabrics for capes, kama's and loincloths are certainly more comfortable but, they tend to look "costumey" or "Halloweeny".

Maybe try shortening the loincloth to no longer than midthigh. I think that will help alot too. It's at or below the knee's now.

Thanx PJ, Ive had so many ideas & plans go thru my head with this whole that most nights I cant sleep cuz my brain wont tuen off...ahhh costuming ;)

shortening it may work, I have done some heavy weathering to the loincloth & I think once I get it on with the rest of the kit it'll work out, I did actually end up shortening it about an inch due the weathering

Trench coats don't have hoods, which might be why some viewers are skewing towards "robe" or "cloak" instead of "duster" or "trench coat." I mean, you can call it whatever you want, but a real-world trench coat has a very specific look that this doesn't fit into. Also, I really like your paint job but it seems like, especially with the flash, the plates kinda fade into the vest. Maybe you could add a third color to make the plates "pop". It looks like your stuff, armor and soft parts, is well made, so I'm just trying to help you go from "good" to "wow"

I have been obsessed with a video game so I haven't seen your thread recently. Sorry :( but I have to say I love the update.  I really love seeing the progress of your kit.  I think it looks sick even with the fabric. When I think of lots of fabric layers that look good I think of Tuskens, Jedi, and Star Killer.  Keep up the good job man  ;D

Not for nothing but your kit is looking great.  You can tell you really knew what you wanted, going into it and only made minor compromises to make it look better as you came along.   :o I really dig how you worked, your insulin kit into the gaunts. :o  Great Idea

I look forward to seeing the completed kit.  Keep up the great work

Thanx for the comments guys, I love hearing all the comments & yes it is a scratxh build (surprisingly enough), alot of planning has gone into this build but I think once its finished all the work & time will be well rewarded

....so here we go with another quick update...I threw everything (minus the gaunts) on with a pair of boots (not the ones im gonna use, those will be tan), but I wanted to show what the actual length of the jacket looks like...

Gonna be going over to my own personal seamtress on wednesday to make the suggested changes to the jacket, so id like some input on the length. PJ, I think I will shorten my loincloth a bit after looking at this pic I think it needs to come up just a little

Looking forward to your comments

Chris

I love it as is. I know you said you will wear tan boots, but these black one look good.  Do you have knees? I don't remember if I have seen them before, but the jacket covers them up if you have them on.  I like the length of the loin cloth personally.  The jacket does seem a tad long, but if it doesn't drag on the floor it seems fine.  If you do decide to shorten it may I suggest keeping it between knee and mid calf level. I love what you have and can't wait to get you official. I want to troop with you all suited up so bad.  Me and you know how to rock the browns and tans :)

Thanx guys! Yes Thomas  you gave me that scope & yes V, I have knees, just didnt have them on in the pic. As for the length of tne jacket I woulda only shortened it an inch or so (I love the long trench), when I put up the last full pic, a couple people were concerned that the jacket was too long, but I was in bare feet in that pic & wanted to show you all what it would look like with boots on. I think ima leave the length  on the trench the way it is...while im waiting on my vaca $$$ to show up, im re-doing my gaunts & I might change my boot armor a bit as I dont like the duck bills.

Trust me V, im dying to start trooping too, im almost there & the wait will DEFINITELY be worth it!

Overall it look sgood, I like it better than the first pix. The loincloth would be nice to see trimmed a bit but, you made it look much better by weathering it. That hood is still causing me an aneurysm though lol.

Lower armor w/ our beloved duckbills...

Thanx V, those boots are stand ins till I can get tan ones (need $$$ & I wont have it in time for the 13th), I think the custom boot armor will look considerably better with the tan boots

Both styles cover up your laces and add some protection to the foot area so either or is fine.  I guess go with what feels more comfortable to you and what stays on the best.

You'll have better flex with the custom... & wont chop your toe when you kneel.

At long last EVERY piece of armor is DONE! The final pieces? My gaunts...

Right gaunt...Flamethrower
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_181152.jpg)

Right Gaunt...Poison Kit/Dart Launcher
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_181311.jpg)

Right Gaunt...Mini Smart Missles
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_181334.jpg)

Left Gaunt...Top (closed), Wrist Computer/Holo Communicator
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_182042.jpg)

Left Gaunt...Top (open), & yes it is functional, its a translator, but also gives date & time
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_182112.jpg)

Left Gaunt...Net Launcher
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-08_182154.jpg)
Also hidden inside the left gaunt is a retractable garrotte wire, for those up close, silent kills ;)

So thats it, all armor is finished! All thats left is a few little "housekeeping" items (weathering, few small tweaks, etc.), should be ready for pics by Wednesday

Lemme know what you guys think!

Thanx for looking

Chris

An idea you could do that wouldn't take long... paint them different colors, like the bright colors the buttons in the movies were. Then later you could paint the Mando letters on

Still left to do:
Tighten gauntlets
Secure Shoulder Strap
Attach boot armor (somehow)

Ok guys, upgrade time! I need your opinions. I am going to be swapping out my gaiters (the leather coverings under my lower armor) for wraps & was wondering what you guys thought would be a good color choice for them. I am torn between tan & brown. I've asked a couple friends about it & they for the most part are leaning toward brown, but I was thinking that that much more brown would throw off the rest of my look. In case you need a refresher here's a pic of my kit in it's current form
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/Mobile%20Uploads/2011-05-14_131212.jpg)
here's a list of other upgrades/changes I have planned to  do:
Going to swap my boots for some tan ones
Jump boots similar to Cad Banes (no jet pack for me...not with a trenchcoat ;))
Get a proper neckseal
Redo/shorten my flamethrower tubes
Replace my wrist computer, with a more "high tech" version (gonna build a cradle for my phone onto my gauntlet
Going to make a shoulder cape/sarape/shemgah thing that will hang off my left side clear to my knees (it's will also wrap around me kinda like a poncho)
Gonna do some wookiee braids to hang off my shoulder when I wear the sarape thing

Well that's my plan for the near future. Pleasent gimme your opinions onr the wraps & be looking for pics to show up here again soon

Thanx,

Chris

Phones or I pods cannot be used on gauntlets, it's against CRLs.

Phones or I pods cannot be used on gauntlets, it's against CRLs.

Not even if it's completely covered except for the screen? I was thinkin about something like  this craft foam pipboy
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/PipboyTut-Pic1.jpg)

Mine would NOT be craft foam, it'll be the same plastic I used for the rest of my build, I might line the inside to protect the phone, but that's it.

I've read all of KT's Republic Commando books. They have gauntlet mounted datapads & im wondering if that's not the same as my phone

If you're doing it that way, then you might get away with it. here is the Crl wording in the don'ts list,

8.No contemporary technology unless hidden or cleverly disguised.  (Examples:  Exposed IPods, Iphones, Cell phones, Calculators, PDAs, or Palm devices)

Yupp, I know it...I'm very much a "by the rules" guy, I always do my research before doing anything on my kit (ask any of my command staff ;) LOVE YOU GUYS!). When I first was planning my gauntlets, I knew I wanted a wrist computer & I had asked mandalore about doing a phone on my gauntlet & he sited the same thing & told me if it was not noticeable as a phone, it'd be ok. It wasn't till I saw one of our  own members working on her own pipboy based off these pics that I thought to use my own phone. Don't worry, it isn't going to look much like a pipboy when I'm done (don't want any crossovers either ;)).

Thanx for taking the time Remo, I'm not 100% sure on everything & if I DO miss something, it's nice to know that you guys are there to put me straight. I will build the thing & make sure to post pics of it & clear it before actually attaching it to my gauntlet.

Thanx for the help & advice so far guys, keep it coming & be sure to watch here as I make the changes to my kit.

Chris

Awesome! Thank you Jerek, that's more or less exactly what I had in mind. It's not an iphone (thank god), but I think that properly "dressed" my phone will work very well I think & that thread gave me some ideas I hadn't considered (namely the chunky buttons). Not to kick a dead horse but, you can still use phones as long as they are disguised.  I have my Iphone in mine but it actually slides into the bracer so you only see the screen.

Thought I'd show you guys this before I actually started working (in case I have to tweak it). It's got an opening at the top that will be how my phone slides in & out (should also be able to slide my phone up enough to clear my camera so I can take pics myself). The circle area is where my holographic communicator will be relocated to. Lemme know what you guys think.

Oh, P.S. I will be adding large chunky buttons & knobs to swarzy up the cradle & disguise the phone even further

Thanx for looking

That's the bees knees!  I think once that is on a gaunt base, then you will be good to go.  In my opinion, it should pass since you do a good job covering up the phone and the piece itself looks Star Warsy.

Next, is my 3rd gen comms gauntlet (got a new phone which was too big for my old one), new features include a redesigned net launcher (the boba flamethrower looking thing), twin grapple lines & whip cord housing that will eventually get a whip cord for static pics...also got a friend to work up some "wanted" posters for me

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/2013-06-01_17.46.26.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/2013-06-01_17.46.26.jpg.html)

& the last of the pic updates for now...Nassad's new "face"

for those interested, I did a WIP for the new bucket here...feel free to check it out
http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=70189.0

As for future upgrades on the table I have...
- repaint of armor to match new helmet
- redo wraps
- new vest
- survival pack with water source (for desert ops brigade)
- upgraded shoulder strap/bandolier
- sawed-off shotgun style back mounted weapon
- back mounted custom beskad

Aso hoping to keep this thread better updated so as to keep you all interested

Thanx for looking!!

I too am saddened by it's retirement, I spent several long & at times INFURIATING months sanding & filling & sanding again. It has bore me well thru many troops & has been autographed by some amazing men & now it's time for it to join them on the pedestal on which I hold the men themselves!

sorry for the double post, but this weekend (my weekend is monday & tuesday :P) was VERY productive!!

First I wanted to see kinda what the new Bucket was gonna look like with the armor on (mainly wanted to see if it was going to be too big on me)...threw on my vest & sarape...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20131231_103153_LLS.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20131231_103153_LLS.jpg.html)

...I think it's gonna work juuuuust fine ;)

next, in preparation for our clan's annual Potluck/Photoshoot this Saturday, I stripped down & repainted all my armor to better match the new Stalker (namely added the black layer that wasn't done originally)

...old paint...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20131231_165201.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20131231_165201.jpg.html)

...stripped plates...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20131231_210355.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20131231_210355.jpg.html)

...new paint (still needs to be attacked with sandpaper for a more lived in look)...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20140101_172028.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20140101_172028.jpg.html)

LOVING the new paint so far & I think it shows how far I have progressed in my skills since I started on this journey!

As for my list of upgrades still to do, I drew up a concept idea of the pack I want to wear for when I submit my app for the desert operative profession...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20131229_030747.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20131229_030747.jpg.html)

...this will attach to the new wider bandolier Im going to be doing & it will carry a sawed-off shotgun style weapon as well as a beskad...

Here are a couple ideas I have for the sawed off...

the first is a smaller version of a cip-quad...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20140101_230820.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20140101_230820.jpg.html)

The 2nd (& my surrent favorite) is a tad more recognizable...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20131229_041416.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20131229_041416.jpg.html)

for the beskad, I was thinking of useing this sword which I had made back when I was doing my Predator costume stuff & I've been looking for a reason to use it...will redo the wrap to match my current weapons
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/CompletedSword.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/CompletedSword.jpg.html)

...told ya I had a productive weekend ;)

also on my list of upgrades to do is:

- a new vest (this will probably happen before anything else)
- new wraps (2nd priority)
- upgrade the bandolier (will look something like the one on Starkiller's desert outfit)
- adding BOTH of my RC pistols in holsters on the back of my belt
- probably going to add a few more knives somewhere
- do removable whip for whipcord housing
- figure out my "facial tattoo"

Well that's it for now, I've got some commissions I need to finish up (NEVER shoulda gone down THAT path), then I'll be really getting into this list as well working on the GF's armor so we're all ready for C7

Thanx for looking!!

had a Photoshoot this past weekend & thought I'd share a couple photos of the new Bucket & Paint in action:

The clan Cadre (we have 2 Ruus'alors)
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/IMG_36434018543844.jpeg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/IMG_36434018543844.jpeg.html)

myself & our Ver'alor

you can't really tell, but I have my Sarape on...people kept telling me to move it out of the way & after moving around the mountain it ended up hanging around my neck like a cape

I gotta say I'm super happy with the new look & I hope the upcoming changes will turn out as good!

Thanx for looking!!

so, it's been a bit since I updated, but now that Phoenix Comic Con is over I can focus more on the upgrades. I made a couple changes to my survival pack & I also drew up what my new look wil be...

New survival pack Concept...going with a pack I found at a surplus store, I ended up getting one for my Umbrella/Stargate kits & liked it so much that I wanted one for my mando survival pack...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20140413_015147.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20140413_015147.jpg.html)

New Shin armor...I've decided to join the ranks of Shknee users...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20140611_134023.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20140611_134023.jpg.html)

& finally here is the concept of my new look...think Resident Evil: Extinction meets Book of Eli with a little Tusken influence
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20140413_040429.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20140413_040429.jpg.html)

not much, but at least I'm still working...I'm gonna hopefully get my upgrades going full steam ahead cuz I wanna see this new look come to life.

Thanx for looking!

I also have started on my long journey to bucket epicness, something I've been meaning to do for the last almost 4 years...I have a LOT more electronics planned for my bucket, but for now...I HAVE FANS!!!

Still got a couple things to do for the kit...here's the list of what I still need to do:
New Bandolier/pouches
Survival pack
Water Resevoir
Holsters for my RC pistols
New comm gauntlet (yes, another version will soon be popping up)

Thanks for keeping up with me as I go thru this overhaul & keep checking back as I get closer to my new vision for Naasad Tal!

Thanx for all the compliments ner vode!

At the recent Diamondbacks game troop, I was asked to hold a vibroaxe for a fellow costumer & several people suggested that a staff weapon would work really well with my new Desert Wander/Nomad look & I tended to agree. While the Vibroaxe is cool & all, I like to do things a little differently & I opted for a more exotic (yet still "in universe") staff weaponfor my kit & knocked this out in about 3 hours...

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20141008_155003.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20141008_155003.jpg.html)

I always thought the Weapon Leia carries in her Boush outfit was kinda cool so I decided to make one for myself, I think this 7ft electrostaff fits very well with my new look...what say you guys?

Since adding the shoulder holster for the shotty, my shoulder strap doesn't stay up on my shoulder very well. I've tried a couple different things (small strap sewn into the shoulder of my vest between the front & back collar plates & a collar of sorts that I wear around my neck that loops around the strap) & nothing seems to be working, but last night at work I came up with a solution that may work & it's so simple that I feel dumb for not thinking about it sooner...a keyhole fastener! they look like a shorter version of the chain lock slide that you put on your doors & I use them to hang my Republic Commando pack (see why I feel dumb fo not thinking of it sooner :P). Gonna give it a shot & see how well it works -fingers crossed-

Thanx for looking!

Please forgive the double post, but I'm sitting here bored at work & trying to come up with an idea for my new comunication gauntlet (got a new phone & it doesn't fit in the current one).

I have a couple ideas, but I am thinking about making the new one based off this concept art of the pip-boy from Fallout
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/PipboySketches-1.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/PipboySketches-1.jpg.html)

I'm planning to modify the design substantially, but it will be similar as it works with the desert wanderer/nomad look that Naasad has going on right now. I really like the plate on the back of the hand & the circular design will be perfect for my holo-comm. I'm also planning to have the wire leading from the main substructure to the handplate & it will be attached to a slicer chip for hacking computers & doors.

The weaponry I have on my current communication gauntlet will retain their places on the new one & include a net launcher, Whipcord housing (will eventually get an actual whipcord), twin Grappel lines & hidden Garotte Wire.

Lemme know what you guys think & as always, thanx for looking!

Greetings ner vode! I apologize for not posting in a while, but it's time for another upgrade update!

I just got approved for the Desert ops brigade & wanted to share the current state of my kit with you all. Below is a pic from our recent clan BBQ/Photoshoot (pic credit: Tony Julius)

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/IMG_45698102471485.jpeg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/IMG_45698102471485.jpeg.html)

The hose coming from the helmet is a camelbak drink tube which connects to a water bottle on my back that is part of my Desert Ops Survival Pack. It allows me to get a drink without the need to remove my bucket...below is a pic of my helmet with the canister & hose connected as well as a pic of the inside so you can see where the camelbak mouth piece sits (Yes, I can reach the mouthpiece so I can drink without removing my bucket ;))

& here is a pic of the pack...Shotgun, Beskad & Canister are included in the package & I LOVE the way it came out

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150108_180814-1.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150108_180814-1.jpg.html)

I am VERY happy with the way my kit is looking now & I am getting closer & closer to my final vision for this stage in evolution of my kit!

I still have a couple things left to do to reach the end of my kit's current evolution, list below:
- new bandolier
- new holsters on gunbelt for my RC pistols
- new comm gauntlet

The goal is to have everything done for Celebration in a couple months & i'm on a good path to do so! Enjoy & as always, critiques & comments welcome!

Thanx for looking!

Thanx for the compliment Takisir & feel free to borrow away...that's why I posted it!

In case you're wondering, it's a camelbak hydrolink quick connect that attaches the hose to my helmet & the drinking tube is an off brand product that has a universal screw-top lid that can work with most standard water bottles...which is what the canister is.

Post by: Naasad Tal on Aug 19, 2015, 05:48 AM
Ok first & foremost, I appologize for not updating sooner, I have been busy with ALOT of other thigns & rela life gets in the way from time to time...without further adieu, away we go...

So recently I've had this idea about giving my mando a little more "post-apocalyptic" feel than it already has (most recent pic below...PCC 2015)

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150529_122547.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150529_122547.jpg.html)

I've come up with a new poncho type covering that has alot of fabric around my neck, but what I'm having a hard time with is a gunbelt that looks post apocalyptic-y. Russiya came up with an AMAZING design that looks like something that someone lost in the Jundland Wastes would wear, but I don't want to completely rip off his idea, so using his design as a base & pulling from some inspiration that I always seem to come back to, I came up with this design...

(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150818_061129-1_1.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150818_061129-1_1.jpg.html)

My original idea did not have the chest strap/bandolier that it does now, due to the weight, I had to add that in order to keep my belt in place just above my hips, however, after seeing Russiya's belt, I REALLY wanted to get back to my original idea. This new design incorporates several belts (this idea was borrowed from Starkiller's training gear costume) with the widest sitting on top of all the others & hanging low on my left side. The widest belt would also have ALOT of the mauser pouches that have become so prevelent amongst the mercs. Sadly in my new design I had to abandon one of my main pistols, but I am trying to figure out a way to incorporate it back into the new design.

I have more upgrades in the works which include:
- New vest (should be in hand tomorrow thanx to Sidi Renn)
- New leg wraps
- Trauma plates
- New gauntlets (built from the ground up)
- I may also be redoing my survival pack

I would love your feedback on my new gunbelt design & also on my current plans for my kit.

I'll try to be better about updating...thanx for looking!!!

Why not just keep the two thigh holsters? Otherwise you could put your other pistol at the small of your back. I like the slanted belt idea quite a bit!

I'm liking the poncho thing I think if you do the larger neck pice with some sturdy leather to keep a nice shape and the drape of it with a thick weave of some sort it would turn out awesome

I'm liking the gunbelt idea. Desert designs should inspire a sort of gunslinger/Pancho Villa/Josey Wales kind of vibe.

thanx vode, I'm still undecided on the new belt design, my biggest thing is that my belt is pretty heavy & I don't want to have an overly sophisticated way of keeping it up. right now my bandolier does that job very well, but with the new design, I'm afraid id constantly be fighting with it no matter how tight I make the belt

First, progress on my current upgrades...got my vest in from Sidi Renn & started sewing the velcro on. right now its just the front plates, I still need to do the shoulders & the back.
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150821_180249.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150821_180249.jpg.html)

I also got started on my new gauntlets...all thats left is to weaponize them  ;)
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150829_184323.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150829_184323.jpg.html)

& now in keeping with the ever evolving look of Naasad Tal, I have drawn up what I think is the final version of the new covering Im going to be doing, I also drew in my trauma plates:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20150905_113027-1.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20150905_113027-1.jpg.html)

I plan to have a base layer that fully covers me front & back clear down to the knee, then I'm going to have a second layer in front that partially covers the base layer, then I will have an opening cut in the base layer for my new pack to go (pics of the new pack in a bit), I will also have 2 "tails" that hang down from my shoulders on either side of my pack on the back. The new cover is also going to have alot of fabricaround my neck which will double as a hood similar to this:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/148065959e36c66315073def39fd02f3%201.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/148065959e36c66315073def39fd02f3%201.jpg.html)

Now for the new pack, I am trying go for a more post apocalyptic look with my kit & I have always loved Leia's boushh costume (I already have the elctrostaff she carries), so I decided to once again turn to Boushh for inspiration & I am going to build a version of her pack seen below:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/BH-boussh-backpack.jpeg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/BH-boussh-backpack.jpeg.html)

So that's where I'm at now...lemme know what you think

Thanx for looking!

So...Looks like it's been a little while since I posted here & i first wanna say thank you all for the comments & compliments, it makes me happy to know that after all this time, I can still inspire with my build & hopfully the next wave of upgrades will prove to be more of the same.

& now onto the update...

I have reworked my new design a tad to include 2 holdout blasters & one main pistol this time around...new design below:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20151207_174632.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20151207_174632.jpg.html)

With this recent Blaster ban, it got me thinking that we will probably be seeing more of that as Disney likes to stay PC & I'm totally ok with that, I think I'd rather have no holsters than empty holsters. So with my new gunbelt system (which will pull double duty on my Starkiller next year), the holsters & pouches will be modular so they can be easily removed for when I don Starkiller.

I also plan to make myself new blasters, my new "Twins" are going to be 12in De-10s (something I have always wanted) & the main pistol is going to be a 15in modified version of this (bonus points if you can recognize it)...
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/trigun-vash-revolver-machined-aluminum-trigun3.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/trigun-vash-revolver-machined-aluminum-trigun3.jpg.html)

The plans for new my backpack haven't changed so that will be the same, but let me know what you guys think of the current upgrade direction.

Thanx for looking!

Got my new poncho done today & wanted to share it with you all.

I took apart my hooded trenchcoat & sarape, then pieced them together into this new poncho. the "hood" on this one is actually a long, wide sleeve that I can pull up over my helmet/head. There is also an opening in the back that will allow me to expose my canisters once they are complete. Lemme know what you guys think!

Wow   :o I'm in awe. I am making the exact opposite of a desert mando, I live on the Gulf Coast, so I decided to do an aquatic mando. I have to say as far as inspiration goes this has jumpstarted me! There is so much you did that I was trying to figure out how to put into plans. I can't wait to get back to it. Thanks for the inspiration! Oya vod!

Love the hood-new poncho, Vash the Stampede pistol & the Boushh pack. Will your water bottle be connected on the Boushh pack? I'm in my design phase still, totally going to use shknees.  Great looking kit!

Pardon the double post, but I've got a couple updates to share,

First...my new DE-10s, always wanted a pair of these, just never got around to making them, till now:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20160127_152753.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20160127_152753.jpg.html)

& second, I FINALLY got the design for the main pistol something that didn't irritate me the second I looked at it. In fact, I rather like it now...it is a frankensteined mix of Vash's gun & a TOR pistol I founnd a pic of...this thing is going to be HUGE! **note** these are just the templates, the barrel & cylinder aren't in place yet:
(http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/R1-Alchemist/20160207_144631.jpg) (http://s130.photobucket.com/user/R1-Alchemist/media/20160207_144631.jpg.html)

Still working on the belts & pack, but lemme know what you guys think.
