After a few months of sitting on my shebs planning out my armor I finally came up with a template that worked.
(Original Design: http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=50786.0)
And with the amazing help of the Wampa clan at yesterdays armoar partah got the hardest part of my armor made: the chest pieces!
I didn't get around to sanding or bonding them, but I will be doing that tomorrow before work, so expect finished pictures.
Here's a frontal pic (with replacement Wampa diamond piece):

Better look at the side:

Looks Like a Good Star Vod ;D
Love the Wampa ;)

Love the Wampa ;)
I forgot to cut out a diamond piece, i'm going to tomorrow but for now I figured he would be a great replacement XD
-
looks awesome!! cant wait to see them in person saturday!! I should have mine to atleast cut out by then and maybe mold XD Are you going to sand and use the bondo to make them look flatter? they seem a little boxy then i thought you wanted but maybe thats from them just sitting on the floor anyways lookin great!!!

With mando's: boxy = foxayyyy~ 8)
XD but in all seriousness they came out exactly as I wanted. The edges just need to be sanded and bondo'd but im going to do that with you Saturday!
Also cut them out, but dont mold them until Saturday! (If I learned anything yesterday at the armor party its that I would have messed up a bazillion times without Mereels help XD but I remember everything we did, so I will be able to help you out and get everything perfect!)
-
yeah was def gonna wait for help on the molding XD
-
I dont have a heat gun, but I can get your to the very last steps before heat-guning.
-
thats fine it will make me wait and do it right instead of rushing through it XD check ur texts btw!

I only put my phone down for one second.

Those chest pieces look very cool, I'm definately liking the boxy look of them.

Thank you, I wanted to stay away form being curvy, as I'd like to stick by K.T.'s version of Mando's ^ - ^
-
Those plates are looking excellent. Thanks for the patterns! Maybe I can be awesome, too, someday. :P
-
That plate design is super cool! I want to make a new kit just so I can make my own! ;) Awesome work.
-
That is an excellent style for female armor. Excellent job! ;)

Thank you so much guys.
I'm glad to be getting such positive feedback from everyone on here about them! I wish I had taken pictures of the step-by-step I had gone through since there seems to be an interest. I already gave my original templates to Arch (who is totally more awesome then I could ever wish to be!~) but if there's anyone who wants to know what I did, I'll whip them up again easy, and photocopy, just message me.

I'm stoked to see this come together! :D
-
Good start ;) .
-
I really love the chest plates as well, it's great to finally see that concept of yours starting to take shape! Will be watching this for sure. (And maybe I can sweet talk Arch into just laying out those templates and taking a picture for me...)

Thank you!
Ill make up some new ones quick and send them to you later today after work when I start my sanding. The more people who start to use this style, the better! ^-^
-
How is the glue holding? Did it dry alright?
-
Vira, do you mind if I take your template and make a PDF to share? This way, people can print their own!

Go right ahead, it saves me the trouble of doing it myself XD
and its holding together beautifully Mereel. I cant wait to get sanding and bondoing! =^-^=

Arch, you rock!! Thanks 8)
-
Nah, Vira does for figuring this out. ;)
Here's a PDF of her template (http://www.pleadingbrilliance.com/external/mercs/ViraPlates.pdf). It should be pretty darn close to 1:1 with what she originally made when printed at 8.5 x 11" without page scaling. :)

Just printed it out, and it covers my plates perfectly. You did awesome in uploading it Arch! (and saved me tons of time! <3)
-
Finally got around to taking a picture of me with the plates on. I dont have the pieces bondo'd yet, but their sanded and I plan on getting to it at some point XD
What do you guys think of my spacing? (keep in mind their held up with scotch tape in the pic)
Dont mind my Derp face, my father made a joke and I always derp when I laugh XD
(http://i45.tinypic.com/swzhhz.jpg)
-
seeing it bigger then just from the cell phone the spacing itself looks good that one edge on your left side (bookshelf) seems to be out im not sure if its just a lack of adhesive or if you need the heat gun?
-
Now that you pointed it out my bookshelf does have quite a bit of lift when compared to the bed.
I think it might just be the lack of adhesive though, since I had tape on the other side, but not that one.
-
I don't understand the term bookshelf, but things are looking good!
Your spacing looks pretty good for a rough fitting, but I think your ab plate might be a hair too big. I think you could lose a little off the bottom, but it might just be the angle of the picture.
Great progress!

Ill definitely take your suggestion since that's the one thing that was taped secruly.
Also im a chronic dyslexic, so everyone that knows me just refers to left and right as places in my room as according to where my computer sits, so Bookshelf = Left, and Bed = Right >//<
-
its all out of love <3 =p but seriously it looks great im excited to have another armor day.. we can get those daggers done!

Love my shebs XD and yeah, the daggers and my Wampa teeth!
-
Love the Bookshelf/ bed idea ;D as a dyslexic myself I can appreciate the problems with left and right. my personal favourite is right and the other right LOL ;)
any hoo size looks good ;D and yep your bookshelf chest plate at the bottom outer edge looks like its flaring out a bit ??? but could just be a taping issue ;)

I looked at it again with tape, and it is flaring out, so im going to take care of that with the heatgun and I should be set to bondo.
and I cant tell you how many right roads i've taken when i've meant to take a left XD
-
The angular torso plates are very flattering. Do you plan on carrying the look over to your other ones?
-

Yes, Im a big fan of angles. My plan is to have it all the way through, I have a link in my first post of my concept design if you wanna see how its going to look once its complete.
-
Ok so once again I am a day late and a dollar short. That being said.... I love you kit concept and I have saved you template. My daughter or I my use it for one of our kits. Needless to say I am book marking your thread to wath your kit come together. ;D

Any progress Vira?

Aww, I hope I hope you show me this pics after if you use it!!
Any progress Vira?
Yes, I have my ab plate, and my collar piece now, plus I found a flak jacket! However I got in a car accident earlier this week and have broken my thumb, and sprained both my wrists so my main focus has been finding random greeblies and the search for my flight suit or clothing that can be turned into a flight suit.
-
Of course we will send you pics!
As for flightsuit..... hubby & I are using medical scrubs. :D We were told it was ok to use them. They come in such a wide variety of colors aand if you can't find the right color easily can be dyed!
-
Sheesh. You alright?
-
Sheesh. You alright?
Same question.

Scrubs have a nice look to them, but I still prefer a flight suit solely on principle.
-
Due to my dimensions the scrubs were the best way to go for me. Also to be frank restroom breaks was also thought about when making my decision. However I did look at flight suits first.
-

I know! I've been meaning to find a matching pair of scrubs, but cant find long sleeved ones for the life of me! Like Byrek said, I like flight-suits just because they are so much easier, but the lure of actually being able to pee without having to take off everything is pretty great with the scrubs, not gunna lie.
Sheesh. You alright?
I will be fine, Thankfully it was a clean break and I just have to have a cast on for the next 4 weeks until my bone heals up. And because of the sprain on both i'm not allowed to lift more than 10lbs, nor am I allowed to make scrubbing motions (no sanding for me), so that makes me pretty much useless for the next 4 weeks >-< But otherwise i'm fine and thankful.
-
Thats good to hear!
Well atleast you have one gauntlet done! Lol
And the bathroom situation, I always wondered if you split a flight suit and sew them together with a zipper that wraps around the waist, That way instead of having to take everything off you just zip off the bottom bit.
-
I almost would say that's more effort than its worth. For men it would be a simple mod, but for us women we require more clearance, which means almost completely ripping it apart and making it a two piece anyway. I'd have to google to see if anyone has attempted it before.
-
I'm really thinking about using these chest plates for my mando. Leaning more to this now.
-
I'm really thinking about using these chest plates for my mando. Leaning more to this now.
I encourage you too! their flattering to all shapes and sizes!
-
I tried to print out the templates but I can't seem to get them to come out big enough. I have a rather large chest and small frame. So I'm not sure if theses are me.
*sigh*
-
If that's troubling you, you could always print out one of the men's Jango templates and add in the dart yourself. That way, you get complete control of the size of the chest plate.
-
humm, thats a good idea.
Thanks :)
-
No problem! ^-^
-
Since my left hand is out of commission, I haven't been able to do much, but Suna came over today and we both got some work on our kits done!
I finally got around to bondoing. I will be sanding them down sometime this week.
-
Those plates look really cool.. :o
-
Looking good, Vira. :D
Since my left hand is out of commission
What happened to your hand, by the way?
-
loving how they're turning out!!!! cant wait to keep working on it all!!
-

Thanks! ^//^

I broke my thumb in a car accident the end of last month. I've been casted up since then lol
-
Looks great!
-
Looks Good ;) I see lots of sanding :P
Hope the thumb is ok ;)
-
Looks Good ;) I see lots of sanding :P
Who needs hand therapy when I have so much sanding I can do? Haha, but yeah, I really caked it on, I kinda regret that, so i'm going to be having a fun time sanding XD
Do you think a dremel sanding tool will work, or do I have to use my hands? XD
-
Personally, I'm scared to use my dremel for something other than cutting since it provides less control. But since the bondo is on so thick you could sand down most of it then go back and hand sand the rest. Well, once you're all healed up :)
-
a Mouse sander would be better ;) i have used my dremel but it can bite in and make a hole :(
-
Niabi's right, a mouse sander is what you want, Dremel will take a long time. Looking good though.
-
Vira, my dad just bought a new mouse sander, which I kinda steal for the most part, so you can borrow my old one if you if you want.
-

I would absolutely love that! I get my cast off tomorrow, so I will text you sometime this week about coming by!
@Karvas, Niabi, & Misstor.
Thank you for the tips!!!
-
Sorry for the inactivity everyone, but I am happy to inform you all I am getting off my winter lazy shebs and working on my armor again. My plan is to have almost everything (if not everything) done by late June.
I have so much to do still @.@ but next week is supposed to be beautiful so I can do more sanding/painting.
Here's what I have so far (picture not including soft parts)

your chest pieces look so much better all sanded and primed!!!

I agree XD I cant wait for next week to prime everything.
-
I know if you still have that extra sintra im going to try and get as much out of it as I can next week XD. I am going to buy a back plate probably this weekend XD

FUUUUUU- I love this armor >.< The chest plate is AMAZING. I cannot wait to see the rest of this build!
-
I was just wondering the other day if you still existed. Good thing you do ;)

If you like it, Arch made a template of it off of my original design for everyone to use!

I do exist XD and I will be very very active from this point on out.
-
Yay! Vira's back! :D Your kit is looking awesome! Hopefully we get to troop with you soon.
-
Scratchbuilt armor looks great, but those Shubi plates aren't gonna pass.
http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=63711.msg943816#new
-
She knows =( sadly they were bought a while back. The post says they aren't officially banned till Aug 1st but would need some major mods to become official. We were going to work on that and hopefully get them to a place where they can become acceptable =]!
-
Your armor is looking great so far! I look forward to seeing how this will turn out. ;)

I know! I was so sad about that when Suna showed me that article, but what I am going to do is get it all done before August 1st (the cut off) become official and then make my way updating that armor out. I hate that I already bought it from them >-<
-
Alright guys, updates and opinion time~
Here's my main pieces all primed, the rest are as well, but not pictured lol
(http://i43.tinypic.com/2q2hft1.jpg)
and my now formed backplate does it look good to you guys? It fits well.
my brothers in the military, and said he had no more use for this, so I was wondering, are these allowed?
-
I think it works...
Just check up on the CRL's to make sure.
-
I'm pretty sure I have seen things like that on other peoples kits before. I think it would look neat, and would go fairly well with your color scheme.
And one thing about the backplate, the bottom doesn't seem very symmetrical. I may just be the picture, but i would go at the bottom left side and try to get that divot out. Other then that though the top of the backplate and everything else is looking great!

-
Awesome, im excited to use it since like Mereel said it matches my color scheme, and doesn't have any tags/logos on it.
Also I will take another stab at the bottom corner of the backplate.
-
I can help Thursday if needed.. mine could use some more help too XD
-

-
Nice work Vod ;)
-
Whether it's CRL-passable or not, one thing to keep in mind with that Alice pack strapping/suspenders you have is that it's very recognizable in the real world as unmodified Alice pack strapping. Not sure I would recommend using it for that reason. Star Wars tends to be less cordura/nylon (with the exception of pilots) and more natural leathers when it comes to strapping accessories. This is getting down to aesthetics, though, I believe, so it's really up to you. :)
I really like this style chest plate; I'm excited to see how it fits on the body. Back plate looks good, too, with the new forming.

If it makes it any better, I will be using it to hold up my karma, so the only thing you will truly see is the front of it.
I will see how it looks as it all comes together and choose from there ^-^

Everything's coming together nicely, approvable by PortCon? 8)
-
That's what I want! Its Suna and I's goal. However were getting stuck on a few things, but we will hopefully be able to overcome everything.
And a shout out to everyone, if you know a tutorial for approvable hard bracers, id appreciate being linked to it!
-
I'm not sure about a tut, but what are you looking for?
Also when are you guys free over the couple weeks leading up to Portcon? Maybe I can help out a bit.
-
Vira was looking for some form of leather bracers or some quick gaunts to have at PortCon.
My schedule is a little bit tight.. the fact that I have 3 1/2 days off in a row for PortCon is
unheard of, but I think Vira's schedule is more open. I do know we are working on stuff this
Sunday, Thursday and I don't know after that XD.
-
Like Suna said, Were both working together this sunday and thursday, but I am free every day but fridays.
So whenever you are not busy, just throw me a text and ill come over or you can join us at my house. I'm only a 30minute drive.
-
If you have a dremel and a screwdriver or a rivet gun, you can pull together some toilet-brush-holder gaunts pretty quickly! :)
-

I actually just got a response from someone, so I should have gaunts by the 17th at the latest. Now the biggest part is getting all my soft parts up-to-date which will be the easiest thing for me. (unlike the painting, which Suna will attest to that I suck, and not just a "Oh it didn't turn out quite how I imagined" but a "Wow, I hope I have enough sandpaper for this.")
Hopefully we both will be ready for the official title by PortCOn!
-
Yes, I will be helping you paint Sunday =p.. I think after this weekend we will be doing pretty good!!
-
Go go go!
-
Go go go!
Go go going XD
-
Text update.
I have gaunts!
I have everything base coated (yes I know, I know, im being lazy with this one :P)
Flight suit needs to have arms and crotch taken in, but otherwise good.
Already have shoes, need to buy gloves
Vest is already to go
Need to make velcro armor placements on vest/flightsuit
-
Pix pix pix!
-
Pix pix pix!
Going to a concert tonight, but I will make sure to take tons of pictures tomorrow morning and post them up ^-^
-
I'm a' waiting on those pics! :D (Yes, yes, I've been creeping from the sidelines.)
-
I'm a' waiting on those pics! :D (Yes, yes, I've been creeping from the sidelines.)
I got one from PortCon, but it is very crappy. Im currently waiting on Bio to post the good ones he got of me XD
-
Alright everyone, I have pictures!!
THINGS TO NOTE:
You'll notice that I don't have gauntlets or ear caps on my helmet, this was intentional since at the time the gaunts didn't fit and the ear caps wernt colored, however that is now fixed! so just pretend they are there XD
Also you may notice that my belts are loose and my vest is flying away. That will be fixed as soon as I add more holes.

-

Yeah, thats was just the velcro being loose, I found out lol
-
are you sure? they sat too high before.
-
Just tried it on again, your right. I will have to fix that.
-
That's looking really good! I'm loving the way you've painted it.
A few tweaks and you'll be good to go :D
-

I'm super pleased with the way my paint came out, I was afraid it would look really bad for awhile there XD
Im so close to official I can taste it.
-
IMO, your kama doesn't really fit in with the rest of your kit. I mean, your armor and the rest of your soft parts are really weathered, desert-y colors. And then you have this bright blue kama. It kinda sticks out, and not really in a good way. I'd either make a new one that matches your kit better, or weather the current one so it doesn't stand out as much.
Also, you should definitely buy a couple more pouches. Just having the one looks... Off.
-

I kind of agreed with this, but after a while the blue kama's kind of grown on me.
Also, I think your vest is a bit baggy on the sides. That'll need to be taken up a little. You're doing great! Keep it up! ;D
-
She didn't add it to the list but the purple kama will be weathered soon XD
-
A few things. First, make sure your vest is tucked in and try and tighten your belts up. Also, your flightsuit is flaring up around your knees, make sure to lose the bagginess. Then once you get your helmet fixed you won't be far off. ;)
-
I second the pouch thing. If you need some, I have some brown mauser pouches kicking around.
-
Thanks Chro! But I think im going to see if i can find another set just like mine. My original idea was to have two sets, but could only find one in time.
Your right everyone, I completely forget to add grime to my karma, and after looking at it, I realized it makes my booty kinda large, so ill be making it smaller.
But thank you everyone! I will be fixing everything soon!
-
I don't believe I haven't commented on this thread yet! :P
...bookmarked!...
Looking good Vod! I really like the angular plate design, (IMO, I prefer customer plates as they show our individuality! ;D)
As others have said, dirty up that kama and it will match with the rest of your kit! ;)
Maybe adding some "boba pouches" in addition to a couple more ammo pouches like you have will help to take up some of the open space on the belt!
Then tighten things up (looks like you have a handle on this too), get those gaunts and you'll have a sweet kit!
Keep up the excellent work!! Can't wait to see more!
Oh yeah, no offense meant here, but, just for reference it's "kama" not "karma"
(Karma: Destiny or fate, following as effect from cause; Kama (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kama): an accoutrement attached to the wearer's belt. Often described as a belt-spat or half-kilt... Sorry couldn't resist :P)
-
Haha, no worries. I know the difference, but when im typing, I tend to change it to karma on accident XD

OK, In that case... now I really couldn't resist this one... ;)
Keep up the awesome work Vod!
-
Oh gosh, now ill never get that outta my head.
Im going to be singing to this the whole time I work on my stuff now.
-
Your kit looks awesome! the way you made the chest plates are genius btw i might need to try that for upgrades. Mine are from a mannequin so they don't sit as well on the ladies if you catch my drift, but it was ok to get me approved.
Can't wait to see it completed!

Happy singing!

Absolutely! I love the way they fit, and they were so easy to make. Arch actually made a template for the plates, you can find it here! Its great cause if you need to make the template bigger, you can just enlarge it.

Brilliant! thanks :)

Vira's plates totally rock. :) It's a good idea to try them out on poster board, first. You may find that you want to move the "dart" around. I understand that Vira's updated the design a lot since I made that PDF template from it! Her plate angles aren't quite as pointy as mine ended up. Vira and Suna's plates are subtly different, and they look great!
Vira, I really love how your weathering came out! I didn't have a chance to properly fangirl over it at PortCon. :) You've been making a lot of excellent progress!

Looks real nice vod ;)
One thing im seeing is your plates looks a bit wonky ??? one chest plate is touching your collar :(
when you do you app shots make sure everything is sitting perfect ;)

Yeah they were attached by velcro (that I hadnt sewn yet XD) thats why you have that wonky-ness. For apps I will absolutely have them in place.

Looking really great Vira :) Keep it up and hopefully I'll be able to troop with you soon!

Hello!
I was recently reading one of your threads and saw that you have some awesome designs for female chest armor. Unfortunately the links in the thread to the templates are broken. Could you email them to me?
Thank you,
Corrie.
