Title: Tek Sa'an - Soft Parts
Post by: Tek Sa'an on Aug 28, 2012, 10:47 PM
After a few weeks of being on hold with my armor, I finally have a flak vest to put it on. I enlarged the pattern for the flak vest from The Dented Helmet and printed it out at work on our 60" printer. I don't have pictures of the process, just the end product. My mom was kind enough to work on it for me as she is a professional seamstress (which I absolutely love!). Anyway, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Here's the front of the flak vest. This is duck cloth with batting inside. The neck seal is a separate piece.

The back is held with sew-on velcro.

It fits nicely and is very sturdy. This will be dyed a darker color in the future, too. Just wanted to share. More pictures to come.

Awesome vest! I think it's a touch baggy in by the arms, which is a common problem.  I would suggest, if your mother wouldn't mind doing a touch more work, some darts in the front of the vest could to take in the last of the baggyness. You've got a great foundation to build your kit on there though!

Thanks, Ralin. I think I will mess around with the armor on it a little, you know, just to see how things fit on it. I may have her tweak a few things, though.

Flight suit purchased from Lucas McCoy. It will be altered slightly.

My cape so far. It's 30 x 34, dark green duck cloth. I weathered my helmet on it earlier, so it's all wet in this picture. It'll look better when it is dry. The bottom was sprayed with black paint, but I may add more to it. I used similar techniques used by TK409.

More to come.

Started working on a girth belt. Kind of crappy, but it'll work for now. Plus, it'll be dyed a dark green (probably) and most of it will be covered. Maybe I'll buy a real girth belt later. I'm using the TK409 technique, but adding more than 4 rows of thread to hold the rows together.
