Title: Jaa'det 1st Beskar'gam... NEW WIP
Post by: Jaa'det Otxoa on Sep 21, 2012, 11:37 AM
OK, so I am trying to get started on my Beskar'gam and I have come up with some concept art for the armor design and color scheme:

Full body front concept and design/color scheme:

Alternate color scheme:

Just to clarify things a bit more about Jaa'det "Night Wolf" Otxoa (still working on a back story but here are the basics) is a scout/sniper, from around 16 ABY, known for night assaults especially on heavily wooded planets. (I said it was the basics!  :P)

This will be a scout-type medium/light beskar'gam (planning on a more streamlined version of the bikerscout "backpack" with a functioning integrated hydropack), custom plates, asymmetrical design.

The Buy'ce will be based on a Jango 2-piece (once I can get may hands on one) with either a Biker Scout or ARF trooper style visor... **Opinions please**

I will be making the plates out of 4" PVC drain/sewer pipe and will be using a 2-piece BDU shirt/EMT pant combo instead of a flight suit just because I'm on the tall/skinnier side (6'2" with a 42" chest) and the flight suits are huge when they fit in the length ???, debating on using the sage green or black for that part, the thigh pack is actually a piece I got for my birthday from ThinkGeek.com: Grab-It Pack Gadget Holster (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/c616/)

Looking for opinions on the visor style and color scheme :-\

Let me know what you think!!! All opinions are welcome!!!

Like the colour schema vod ;D very nice

Dont think the grab it pack is a good idea as it is very recognisable as a RL item

also im not a fan of the one leg with full armour the other not  ???

as for visor ideas hit the helmet board there are some in there that will give you a great idea ;) mandalorianEwok did one that was awesome ;)

Thanks for the suggestions Naibi!
I may use the GrabIt pack as a pattern and make a leather version from the bag of scrap leather I have or go with Boba style belt pack, I found the WOF templates.

And I checked out mandaloriaEwok's Hunter WIP, that may be more of what I am going for as far as the visor goes  ;D

I am going to work up a couple more variations of the armor with a bit more symmetrical design (thigh plate under the pack, full armor, light armor variations) The idea is that, as a sniper, only one shin & one thigh are exposed and would need to be armored, minimizing the number of plates where it is not needed and adding larger ones to the more exposed areas (gladiator style):

Maybe I should just drop the thigh plates?  :-\ Any suggestions on using the green or black flightsuit?

OK, After considering Naibi's suggestion I drafted up a couple more revisions... and I must say I like the progression ;D

- Changed the GrabIt Pack to Boba pouches
- Added Kama & Girth belt
- Added additional thigh plate
- Added antenna to replace rangefinder
- Modified visor to ARF style instead of bikerscout
- 2 variations of the flight suit color

the asymmetrical armor looks similar to the TK "knees"... sorta TK/Boba hybrid :-\

This one with the Sage Green Flight suit & black pouches:

And this one with the Black flight suit and natural pouches:

I have the pattern for the flak vest and neckseal, will probably get started on those soon, Will also post the back concepts to illustrate modded bikerscout pack/hydropack better

Looks better. Also you will want to add a bottom clamshell to the lefthand bracer.

Now that Vod it looking cool  8)

I like the black flight suit one But on my screen it looks more like a Dark Gray and i think that that would be better than Black.

I'm with Niabi, it looks dark grey on my screen too, but it looks good like that!

I like your design, but I might see a flaw in your chest armor. As long as you've designed it, you're going to have very little torso flex. If you bend over, I fear the lower portions of the chest plates might bend or even crack over time. It's an awesome design though, and I truly hope you can make it work as-is!

I also like the redesigned bucket more than the original. I'm partial to antennas though instead of rangefinders, and the ARF visor definitely looks better.

Keep up the good work vod!

Vor'e Vode!  ;)
Great suggestions! I had originally made the jumpsuit dark gray to show some dimension in illustrator, but I do agree I like the dark gray look, especially since the plates will be a bit darker graphite color and the orange will be more like a copper metallic color.

I will have to see how the chest plates work as far as flexibility goes with the extended lower "horns". ???
I may have to modify the design a bit to see where they land when I bend, once I have my flak vest made up I will be mocking up the plates out of card stock or cardboard (before I transfer them to the PVC pipes) to see how the flexibility is and if they stab me in the side or not... being impaled by your own armor would be bad  :o
I will get more pics up once I get to that point, gotta look through my 'Duffle Bag 'O Fabric' to see if I have the muslin for the vest & neckseal, otherwise it's off to wally world to hit the clearance tables.  :P

I'm BAAAAACCKKK!  ;D

Got a few things together and here is the current progress of my WIP... Soft parts!:

The gray is close to the color I am planning on using for the flight suit but is not the final 2-piece to be used...
I pretty much wrapped up the neck seal and flak vest from some fabric I had laying around the house last night... Both parts were made using the tutorials on TDH for the Neckseal (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/neckseal-101-pic-intensive-23563/) and flak vest (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/flak-vest-tutorial-draft-your-own-pattern-9926/)...

The Neckseal is a modified version of the pattern used in LadySewforus' tutorial
- First one made was way too small at the base of the neck so i had to add an angle to it for a better fit, also added a v-notch in the front to allow it to cover under my chin better with the buy'ce on... (I will post more details soon)
- Just need to finish the Velcro fasteners on the back.

The vest you see is after about 3 rounds of customizing/tailoring (shoulder caps were too large...scaled down, shoulders too wide...modify shoulder width/arm holes) just need to finish the tailoring on the vest for a good, snug fit around the sides and sew in the Velcro fasteners on the sides.

I have also ordered a Rubie's Jango 2-piece that should be in in a few days as well as starting on the patterns for the plates...  ;D

...More to come...

Update time!!

Decided to get the torso plates made last night...
I used the WOF XL Jango templates scaled down to 98% and overlaid my custom pattern to create the templates, printed all front torso plates, cut the templates out of posterboard and taped them to myself... too wide  :(

So, back to the drawing board, resized the collar chest plates and upper ab plate width and voila!
Believe it or not it is actually quite flexible! and the good thing is NO POKIES!! ;D (at least for now, I guess I will see once it is in PVC  :P)
Once I snapped the pic I realized another thing... time for a new flak vest as the one I have is definitely too short!

So far I do like the way the plates are looking, even though they are a little longer than standard plates I like the look as it gives a leaner look to the beskar'gam, being that I am tall & lean it actually works with my body structure and reminds me of the TOR Beskar'gam (Like Lucas McCoy's) which is somewhat the look I am going for!

Let me know what you think of the sizing / spacing (I know the spacing is a little off due to taping it to my t-shirt)

McCoy's armor is from SWG... Not TOR... And I don't think he's got the same love for TOR as he has for SWG...

But I like what you've got so far...!

Minor update...

Please excuse the rough sketch here  :-[ but his is the concept for the back view (back plate design):

And the final template for the back plate/kidney plates designed using the WOF templates as a guide (with modifications to match the styling of the chest plates):

I also have the shoulder bell template cut out of poster board and will be cutting these out soon and posting pics for a sizing check!  ;D

 Thanks Vod!

Yeah, well I usually convert the entire thing to vectored image in Illustrator so I can do the tweaks easier, but wanted to let everyone know I'm still workin' on it!

I have pretty much my entire kit in various stages of "Doneness", I really want to get my Buy'ce completed first, Soft parts, Plates, accessories, with at least 1 weapon (Blaster pistol almost done) in the middle, then the other at the end!  ???

OK, got the template for the backplate made...

So here is my best attempt at shooting it, please excuse the wonky kidney plate and really bad photography here!  :-[

...wow I need to clean my mirror, LOL!  :P

So how does the sizing look? It may need to be moved up so that the neck line is a bit closer to my collar, I will know better once I rebuild the flak vest, right now the bottom tips of the kidney plates sit about 3" above the top of my belt.

An additional note, segmenting the kidney plates actually adds some nice lower-back flexibility to the back plate!   ;)

OPINIONS PLEASE?!?  ;D

Considering slightly modding it by either covering or replacing the top flaps with leather ones just to change the look up a little bit so that it doesn't look like a "stock" Think Geek pack!

I has pouches!  ;D

Threw together a couple Boba belt pouches using the WOF templates on TDH (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/pouches-pockets-spats-oh-my-23218/):
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/SidePouchesFt.jpg)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/SidePouchesSide.jpg)
Nice thing is that the fabric was "pre-weathered" (I found a 600 thread count sheet in the basement that looked like it was used to drag wood around )

I am also currently remaking my flak vest out of the same fabric, my first attempt was too short and the fabric had too much give (It's being modified to fit my stepdaughter who is Shriekhawk age in the Verd'ika Corps (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=61064.0))
The new one is Jango length with the Boba shoulders (Kelan Ord style), I am currently adding the original fabric that I used on the first flak vest to the sides to allow for a bit of flex at the side attachment points.

Next up... Flak vest! ;)

Finished up the sewing on my flak vest last night...

Front with neckseal:

Detail of the side closure I had mentioned in the last post, the lighter material has some give which will allow for a bit of flexibility once I get the velcro sewn in...  ;D

More softparts!  ;D

I was trying to figure out how to make the Kama and came across LordNikon187's Stalker WIP (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=57653.30) and how he made his girth/loincloth, got me thinking... ...How about making a girth/kama...

...And so I took another old ruined, I mean... ...Er, "Pre-weathered"... ...bedsheet and came up with this!  :P

That kama looks good man. My personal opinion is that it would look better if you moved the two panels closer together at the back, to close the gap. Like Kelan I'm not a fan of the idea of adding a third panel. I think that would detract from it :) Keep up the good work!

I may do this... I would require that I relocate the belt & buckle out about an inch each and relocate the tabs that overlap in the middle to hide the holes from the rivets in the leather.  ???
Aye, methinks larger panels covering the back would look better! Still, looks awesome :D
I was wondering though, how did you do the girth belt? Is it just layered strips sewn together?
The girth belt is made the same way I made my neck seal it is actually 1 piece of fabric sewn into a tube then ironed flat at the bottom edge, sewn down at 1 1/2", overlapped 1/2", ironed, sewn 1 1/2" up from bottom of fold, repeat, repeat, repeat...
kinda looks like this from the side if you fold the flaps up:
/|__/|__/|__/|__
I will be putting a link to a separate WIP for the Girth/Kama combo on here once I have time to do it...  ;)

Thanks for the feedback Vode!  ;D
So I revised the girth belt a bit last night to tighten the gap in the back up about 2"  :P
(I pulled all the rivets out of the leather parts and offset them out about an inch, then moved the tabs on the ends in about an inch  or so)

...And here is what I came up with:

...And with the back panel:

I think I'm leaning more towards leaving the back panel out as Kelan and Segutai suggest for a few reasons...
1. It still feels like a tail
2. When sitting it drags the back down  ???
3. What's the matter? You don't think i have a cute butt?

Think I'll post a poll to see what the general consensus is

You could just use a butt plate.   :)

McCoy's armor is from SWG... Not TOR... And I don't think he's got the same love for TOR as he has for SWG...

But I like what you've got so far...!

Poll is cool and all, but ultimately, it's YOUR kit bud!  ;)
Thanks Vode!
Ultimately I will go with my gut about the rear panel (actually pretty much already have  ;))
The poll is more to get opinions...   ...which is what I feel the point of creating a WIP should be!
I love getting feedback on my progress, especially since I'm not exactly around the corner from any of my clan members to attend any armor parties!   :(  I feel that feedback & constructive criticism always help to improve the overall product!  ;)
No matter the outcome of the poll, I'm the only one who knows what I like and what feels comfortable for me!  ;D

You couldnt be more right!

Minor update: Plates!! :D

So while I was watching paint dry ??? I figured I'd work on tracing out the parts of my Beskar'gam that I have templates for (torso and back plates)...

So I took all of my posterboard templates and taped them down to the 4" PVC drain pipe and traced them with an Ultra fine-line Sharpie:

Once I was happy with the tracing I pulled the templates off and chopped all the pieces out with my jigsaw:

*Repost from my Buy'ce thread*
Cutting & flattening:
- Once I cut the basic shape out with my jigsaw I used my heatgun to start flattening the visor, here is the basic procedure I used:
First a few tips/hints:
-- Heat on a smooth concrete floor or a piece of clean sheetrock (sheet rock is smoother and won't transfer any imperfections that may be present otherwise )
-- Use gloves! Decent weight leather work gloves or "Ove-gloves" work great! ;) These are the gloves (http://www.harborfreight.com/riding-stable-work-gloves-medium-99581.html) that I use:
-- Take your time! Don't rush it, if you try bending a piece that is not evently or thoroughly heated you will end up with cracking
-- Keep it moving! I'm sure everybody has heard this over and over, but it's true... Don't leave the heat gun in one spot for too long or it will burn/boil!
Now how I did it:
-- Start at the middle from the outside, heat from the centerline out, slowly pulling the PVC into shape as I was heating
-- Once I had the piece fairly flat I heated the entire piece until it went limp
-- Sandwiched the soft PVC between 2 pieces of clean sheetrock (this is where I found out that any imperfections will be pressed into the soft PVC!  :P)
-- Stand/sit/kneel or put any decent amount of weight on the sheetrock directly over the pieces as they cool for about 30 seconds to a minute
-- Looked at the piece to see if it need to be reheated and flattened anywhere, and repeated the previous 3 steps until the piece was perfectly flat
this is what I came up with  ;D:

I'm sure alot of you are asking "So why flatten them if you're just gonna end up shaping them anyways?"... :-\
Well, symmetry!, I can place the pieces back to back now and trim them together to get all of the pieces perfectly symmetrical (I know Boba/Jango weren't "perfectly symmetrical... but, then again, I am not them! :P)

So off to the next steps:  ???
- Trimming/cleaning the pieces
- Welding the backplates together
- Shaping all of the pieces

OK, so maybe I meant "melding" or "joining"

But plastic welding is possible... Look here (http://www.harborfreight.com/welding/plastic-welders.html) :P

Although in my case it's more like this (http://www.lowes.com/pd_23541-138-308213_4294822076__?productId=3457816&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=)

Yep I pretty much decided against the "tail" after re-working the closure, the split in the back actually touches at the top instead of having the 2" gap! ;D

UPDATE!!!!!

So I have a pretty good update here!  ;D

- Chest/Collar plates trimmed
- Cod Cut & trimmed
- ^^All of these^^ shaped!

Here is what I have:

The cod is a combination of the Jango/Boba patterns (width of the Jango with the bottom peak of the Boba cod), I have also formed the top plate to add a little more dimension instead of the flat "plate on plate" look (inspired by Kelan's cod... more detailed pics to come as I work on it).   ;)

One thing I am debating... should I attach it to the underside of my girth/kama (velcro or snapped) or should it have it's own belt?  :-\

The chest plates are going to be mounted using flat-head 3/8" #8 machine screws mounted through the top of the plates and into grommets on the flak vest, the heads will be hidden with a second "overlay" layer that will give the plates a little "beefier" look  :P

(Sorry for lack of detail pics... it was 3:00 this morning when I took these  ??? I'll get more up as soon as I can)

So Lemme have it... opinions? critiques? ideas?  ...Bring 'em on Vode!

OK... Update time!!!! ;D

First off... I Has Shoulders!  :D

And... As requested... The torso plates have been shaped, re-shaped and re-re-shaped... ???

and here they are...
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/TorsoPlatesFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/TorsoPlatesFt2.jpg~original)
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/TorsoPlatesAngleRt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/TorsoPlatesAngleLt.jpg~original)

Mind you that I am not wearing the flak vest, and the bottom pieces weren't taped down, but a few things that caught my eye...
1. Lower ab pieces need to come up
2. Bottom edge of upper ab piece needs to be trimmed to allow ^^this^^
3. Trim about 5 mm off the outer edge of all ab pieces to even out gaps to about 15 - 20 mm
4. Slight re-shape of the lower edge of the breastplates to bring the lower arms closer to my body

So waddayathink Vode!! OPINIONS PLEEEEEZZZEEE!!!  :P

Trying to figure out what materials I have on hand to fill the gap between the top plate and the cod to act as a base before adding Bondo for shaping! ???
Oh yeah, and the chest plates have been re-shaped... Will post pics once I have the ab plates trimmed!  ;D

OK, minor update...

I managed to make a rough dress form from some packing foam blocks I found in the basement so I could work out the resizing of the ab plates easier ;D

So here is the result after trimming the top of the upper ab plate and changing the angle of the notched corners of the lower ab plates:

OK, Been trying to collect a few more parts & decide on what style knees I'm going with... But I also started another thread which will be a future upgrade for this kit:
*NEW* Boba Fett Chest display project (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=65213.0)
I'll be basing the display off of Scur's "Boba Fett Chest display project (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=159.0)" with some custom tweaks (Blue LED's & 7-segment numeric displays, modified connections, etc...)

I also finally got the expanding foam to finish up my codpiece, so updates will be coming soon! ;)

It's Cod Time!

OK, so I finally got around to getting some spray-foam to work on my codpiece some more.

Well, It started off pretty good, I cut some wedges out of scrap PVC to hold the top plate at the height I wanted and taped it down, as I knew the foam would want to push the piece out a bit from using the stuff in the past (waaaaay in the past)
Initially all looked good after about 15 minutes of dry time, so I left it to dry and picked it up the next evening...
I removed the tape from across the front... Off cam the tape, then I heard the slow creaking of the expanding foam and this is what it looked like after about 5 minutes of creaks & pops!  :o
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodOverfilled.jpg~original)
Talk about an expanding cod!
The thing blew up like a balloon (the inside and top both warped slightly and the top plate was pushed out a good 10mm from the PVC internal braces I put in there! ???)
So I proceeded to start trimming down the foam and instead of removing all of the foam and starting over I cut out the foam on the lower peak (there were large air pockets here anyways) up to the front of the internal braces. I then cut out the foam between the braces and removed the braces.
OK, shape started returning to normal but the top plate was still a little too distorted, so I shaved slivers out of the remaining foam wedge to correct the shape using a fully extended snap-off razor blade.
Once I was happy with the shape again I re-taped the top plate down across the widest part of the top plate to the codpiece and from the peak of the top plate to the peak of the cod and re-foamed the front making sure to leave the channel that was between the braces open to allow for internal expansion and prevent the warping again. :-[
This time it worked like a charm!
Here is what it now looks like after trimming it up:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodFoamShaped2.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodFoamShaped3.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodFoamShaped1.jpg~original)
I left a 2-5mm lip on all edges to give the Bondo a good surface to bond to once I get to that (hopefully this evening)  ;D

So the moral to the story... Be careful when foaming your cod or it will blow up on you!

Little bit of an update...

So I got a round to putting the Bondo on the codpiece, I also found that after letting the trimmed foam sit for a few days that it actually started to shrink a bit, so I had to add a bit more to the front, let it dry for a couple hours, re-trim then immediately Bondo
(I believe that exposure to air/humidity caused the shrinkage, the Bondo should seal it up to prevent this! :P)
So here is the current state of my codpiece:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondoLt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondoRt.jpg~original)

So now I just need to smooth out the sides, fill any divots and re-sand...  ???
Title: Re: Jaa'det 1st Beskar'gam... NEW WIP
Post by: Jaa'det Otxoa on Jul 24, 2013, 03:44 PM
More cod updates!

So I finally got around to sanding the cod... I apparently didn't put enough on the bottom peak and ended up with a pretty good gap:  :P
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondoSand1Rt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondoSand1Lt.jpg~original)

So here it is now, second coat on, I applied it as smoothly as possible to try to achieve the sharp lines from the peak of the upper plate to the base and on the corners as well as getting the angle on the upper edges even from left to right:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondo2Rt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondo2Lt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondo2Ft.jpg~original)

I also have some progress on my "Flightsuit"... I'll be going the scrubs route as I just happen to have 2 pairs of pants and a shirt all in the same color!
Here are how they look prior to any modification...
Pants:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightsuitUnaltered1.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightsuitUnaltered2.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightsuitUnaltered3.jpg~original)

and top:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightsuitUnaltered4.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightsuitUnaltered5.jpg~original)

This should give you a pretty good idea of how baggy these things are! :P

I have since altered the pants...
and here is how they look currently after about 4 rounds of altering, test fitting, too tight in the thighs to waist, adding additional panel in the backside, test fitting, finding that the crotch seam is too short, expanding the crotch by an inch and finally fitting where they don't want to slide off my shebs when I crouch!  ??? :-[ :P

And to prove that I can actually crouch:

The first time I tried crouching I thought I might pop the center seam :-\ so I double stitched it and added a reinforcement panel:

And here is the crotch seam expansion that I did to make sure the waist band stays on my waist!

I will be adding a Boba thigh pouch to the left leg since I have my grab-it pack for the other leg and will be making the double sleeves on the shirt using the other pair of pants, then I will be de-coloring and dyeing them dark gray...  ;)

Until next time! ;D

Good job on the pants!

And being able to crouch with just the pants is something... With the whole kit on, that's another thing...!!
* but hey, you're better off than I am anyway, I can't even crouch with my flight suit, even without my armor...

Don't worry about the flightsuit body being baggy, that'll be hidden by the vest and allow you to move. Just make sure the arms are nicely tailored and you'll be good ;)

Thanks Kelan, I just figured that I wouldn't want to bust a seam if I had to bend down to grab something!
I figure the cod will restrict the movement a bit, that's why I went with a Jango/Boba hybrid! ;)

Yep not too worried about the body, since I probably wouldn't' be able to get it over my head if I tailored it anyways since the fabric really doesn't give any! I will be somewhat tailoring the sleeves since I'll be going with the double sleeves on this one. ;)

Quick update...

Cod is ready for paint!

Got the cod pretty much finished last night and is now ready for primer!

First, a quick bit of info on getting the sharp lines on the edges/corners in the Bondo...

When I was rough sanding the edges near the upper part of the sides where the top plate meets the cod itself I noticed that the line was pretty wavy... ???

So my OCD kicked in and I made this simple device... a sanding block
Yep, just a scrap of 1x2 with some 120 grit stapled around it...
It let me get a longer, straight line to fix the edge by being able to rest flat against the side and dig into the corner better, like so:

And here are the results:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondo3Lt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/CodBondo3Ctr.jpg~original)

So next I need to get another can of primer and see how it looks!  ;D

Thanks Vode, I'm happy how it came out! And Byrek, yep, I've heard of glazing putty, thanks for the tip, but unfortunately (as I stated in my Buy'ce build) my "Fun-dage" for this project is pretty much nothing and I'm trying to use materials I have on hand, so the imperfections will be integrated into the weathering as well as using enough coats of primer and we-sanding will minimize alot of the imperfections!  ;) (I hope :P)

Good plan, hiding imperfections as weathering is a great "cheat" to use.

Well I was browsing the boards yesterday and came across this little tutorial by AngryBoba (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=64100.0) for an iPod touch chest display...

Sooooo, I though to myself... "Self, you have an iPod nano, does it fit behind your chest display in any direction?"  ???

So I grabbed my iPod and test fit it behind the display window, and guess what? It did cover about 99% of the windows ;D (1% was lost to the border of the screen on the 4th gen iPod Nano's 2" screen) when set at a 45o angle!  8)

So I looked at the sequence that AngryBoba used and found that it was the same as the one found here on the TDH boards (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f25/esb-chest-display-sequence-43686/)

So I jumped onto Illustrator and built a customized sequence to match the angle of the display openings with glow (LED's usually have a slightly brighter center), light on / light off overlay sublayers so that I could create the individual images for the sequence and export each frame to .jpg files.
After that I brought it into my video editing software and worked out the timing based on the TDH sequence then exported to an .mp4 file for my iPod...

And here is what it looks like:

I used a scrap piece of the stock J2p T-visor and taped the iPod behind that
(Yes, I know... the edges of the window are rough... still in progress, this was a test!)

To get the 4 second video to loop I did the following:
- Import the video into iTunes
- Right click on the video and select 'Get Info'
- Select the 'Options' Tab and change the "Media Kind" to 'Music Video'
- That video will now appear under the 'Music' list in 'Videos'
- Now create a playlist with only that video in it *
- Connect your iPod and transfer both the video and playlist to your iPod

* to get the sequence to loop with minimal "blinking" between loops I had to set the video start/stop points in iTunes 1 frame from the beginning/end:
- Right click on the video and select 'Get Info'
- Select the 'Options' Tab and set the 'Start Time:' to "0:00.1" and the 'Stop Time:' to .1 second from the end, in other words, if your end time was 4 seconds set it to 0:03.9 (this is technically more like 3 frames but it works)

To get your iPod to loop (using my Nano's OS, the iTouch is different)
- Go to the home screen -> Settings -> Repeat
- Select "One"
Now when you play your playlist it will play the video file you select in an infinite loop!
Here is a quick video demo of this process:
(Don't forget to turn off the repeat settings when you're done otherwise all of your music will play one song over and over again!)

More soft parts updates! :D

Well I got my top for the "flightsuit" done last night, adding the double sleeves!
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightSuitTopAlteredFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightSuitTopAlteredSd.jpg~original)
This started as a basic scrub top, the sleeves started as a pair of similar weight scrub bottoms, here's how I made 'em...
- First I removed the sleeves from the scrub top
- Next I split the inseam of the scrub bottoms and ironed both legs flat with a fold at the side seams
- Pinned both legs together aligning the side seam and bottom cuff
- Used a "modern fit" long sleeve shirt, flipped the sleeve inside-out and aligned the wrist cuff with the bottom cuff on the pinned pant legs and traced the inner seam of the sleeve onto the pants (the ankle cuff becomes the new sleeve wrist cuff so no seam allowance is necessary) I also marked where the armpit and shoulder seams meet the body of the shirt.
- Now take the scrub to sleeve removed earlier and match it to the mark for the shoulder seam and eyeball it to align with the armpit, now trace the curve marking where the scrub sleeve ends, now use a large french curve (or eyeball it like I do :P) to match the lines from about center sleeve to the armpit mark you just made.
- Add a 3/8" seam allowance to the inner arm sleeve and armpit to shoulder peak marks
- Lay the fabric on a smooth, flat surface, smooth out and pin the layers together along the inside of the seam edges so that when you trim the pieces they all end up the same size ???
- Now make the upper sleeve...
- Take the remaining fabric, split the crotch seam from front to back, removing the waist tie in the process, fold along the side seams and iron flat aligning the edges of the waistband, then lay the 2 pieces together (you may have to remove the pockets if there are any) with the outer seam (folded edge and the waist band) together and pin together
- Measure a mark about 11" from the top of the waistband (the waist band becomes the short sleeve cuff)
- Align the shoulder peak of the outer seam of the long sleeve with the mark you just made, aligning the outer folded seams of the 2 sleeves
- Trace the Armpit to shoulder seam to the fabric then make a mark on the waistband about 1/2" down from where the the long sleeve overlaps and draw a straight line from that mark to the armpit mark, pin along seam marks and cut
- Remove all pins from the new sleeve pieces and flip all inside out
- On the long sleeves sew the inside seam only from the armpit to about 4" from the cuff
- On the Short sleeve split the waistband hem back about 3" and unfold, sew the inside seam from arpit to end of unfolded cuff, re-fold cuff and sew hem back down
- Test fit the short sleeve for length, if it is too long just flip the hem up, iron flat and sew along the hem in 3/8" increments until you get to the top edge (3 times, this will create the concentric rings like you see on my short sleeve cuffs ;D)
- Flip all arm pieces right-side-out and pull the short sleeve over the long sleeve aligning at the arm pit and shoulder peak
- Flip the body of the scrup top inside-out and slide the sleeve into the sleeve openings
- Pin the sleeves in place starting with the armpit and shoulder peak and sew the arms to the body
- Once both sleeves are sewn in flip the whole thing right-side-out, you're almost done! ;D
- Now just iron the openings at the end of the sleeves (Cuff split) using a 3/8" seam and sew flat
- Add a wrist closure of your choice (drawstring, buttons, snaps, Velcro, whatever you want ???)
Now try it on!!

And here are some shots with the vest on:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightSuitTopAlteredVestFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlightSuitTopAlteredVestSd.jpg~original)

Thanks Vode! ;D

And I am planning on taking in the sides on the flak vest a bit (will need to taper the sides in at the waist a bit)  :P

AAAANNNND... An update!

Let's start with the knees...
I decided to base my knees off of my custom shoulder bells, I took the original pattern and stretched the "wings" width and height wise a bit and added cuts to allow the bottom edge to be contoured a bit...

And here is a shot of the knee before and after shaping:
*please excuse the blurry shots... I forgot to clean the lens on my phone! :-[*
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/KneesLg.jpg~original)

Here is how I did the "folds" using 2 1x3's as a vise:

And shots for sizing:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/KneesLgFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/KneesLgSd.jpg~original)

Well, after looking at the knees for a few days I thought they looked a bit tall, so I compared them to WOF's Boba knees and found out mine are about an inch taller!

So I measured down an inch on the center section and made a template to recontoured the sides and traced these marks out on both knees...
Here is the before and after:

And for sizing:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/KneesResizedFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/KneesResizedSd.jpg~original)

Still need to reinforce all the seams from behind and Bondo the gaps, but I like the sizing and the shape!

I also got the base for my gaunts completed! ;D

These are based on the SWG gaunts with some slight modifications to match the styling of my kit...
Since I will be eventually going for Spec Ops: Sniper in the Brigades I wanted to make sure that my Beskar'gam is kept as sleek as possible including the gaunts, so this is what I came up with:
Parts prior to shaping:
The bottom of the clamshell was made from the bell end of the drain pipe so that the line from the bell remains as a design element, then the edges that will mate with the top of the clamshell were pressed flat to about an inch down so that the piano hinge will lay flat and the fastener side mates better as well.

So a quick tutorial on "folding" PVC... ;)
- Basically once you have your pipe flattened and the pattern cut out mark where you want the fold line to be.
- Now I made a vise by using 2 pieces of 1x3 with a couple of screws to hold them together:
- When you are aligning the stock on the edge don't place the bend mark exactly in line with the edge of the vise instead offset it in relation to the thickness of your stock (3mm stock, offset by 1.5 - 2mm):
- Once your mark is aligned with the edge of the vise heat the PVC until it is completely pliable (USE GLOVES!!! :o) then flip it up on it's edge on a smooth flat surface (I used a piece of scrap coated fiberboard) and press down evenly:
(Keep in mind this is for a 90o bend, if you need a different angle cut the vise edges an the appropriate angle to be bent to.)
- And here is the shape of the bend when completed:

...And the shaped components:

And the test fit: ;D
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/Gaunts06Out.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/Gaunts07Bottom.jpg~original)

Another update!  ;D

Soft parts!

So here's the current status of my soft parts: ;D
- Pants fitted
- Shirt modded with double sleeves
- 1 Boba thigh pocket added to pants

And some pics (minus neckseal... It's done I just forgot to put it on )
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/SoftPartsFitTestFt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/SoftPartsFitTestLt.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/SoftPartsFitTestRt.jpg~original)

And the soft parts "To Do" list: :P
- De-color and Dye "Flightsuit" dark gray
- Re-fit flak vest
- Get suede/leather gaiters and "armor plate them"
- Mod Grab-it pack with PVC armor plates
- Find/Make belt and pouches

I'm looking at these (http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/french-leather-double-ammo-pouch.html) for the belt pouches and planning on dyeing them to match the dark brown that my shoes are...

And something like these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/370830479136?var=640094148043&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) for the gaiters

So what do you think?

If anybody has any suggestions on where I can find the gaiters or pouches any cheaper, or are trying to get rid of some, it would be appreciated (although I think the prices are pretty low :P)

Thanks Vod,
The sleeves are long on purpose, they will tuck inside the gloves to keep them from coming out under the gaunts ;)
As far a RICC goes, I'm hoping to be done by then, and would love to come out as an OM! ...Just gotta have the funds :-\

Ok, quick update...

I was able to retailor my flak vest, so o was originally going to take in the sides by completely resewing them ??? ...then figured that a second row of velcro would help the sides hold better!

So that's exactly what I did!

Thanks vode!

So I decided to try my hand a dyeing last night...  ???

Soooo... I was using RIT liquid dye with the bucket method:
(wasn't going to use one of our good stock pots to do this... my wife would kill me!! :-X)

And here are the results...
Yeah... um... apparently the fabrics were 2 different poly-cotton blends :-[
The sleeves (made from another pair of scrub pants I know were a 50/50 blend (and apparently so was the fabric the thigh pocket was made out of), but apparently the pants and the body of the shirt was a 60/40 blend so it came out darker :P

So the next step is to dye the poly part of the fabrics, I found that alot of people have mixed results with the iDye, but apparently the Dylon brand is supposed to do real good on blends, so I'll be picking a couple packs up this weekend to see if I can get this sucker evenly colored! ;)

If anybody has any suggestions on how to even out the poly coloring I'm open to suggestions! ???

Updates!! ;D

...Well, update... :P

Got the backplate mostly shaped...

So this is what I started with:
(Prior to final trimming ???)

So now I have to join the 2 halves together, so I made 3 2" wide joining plates, marked them with a centerline and marked their positioning on the backplates so that I could pre-drill the holes for the rivets (yeah, glue might hold but I want to make sure this sucker doesn't budge so that when I put the body filler on it I don't get any cracks)
Once the plates are matched outer face together and the rivet holes drilled I roughed up the joining faces with 60 grit sandpaper, glued the plates in place (PVC cement) and clamped them:

After they dried (about 10 minutes) I flipped the piece over and repeated the procedure, to make alignment easier prior to laying the halves together I aligned the halves while flat and taped the seam on the outer face so that when it gets flipped open to glue the seam is as tight as possible.
(You can see the pre-drilled holes here just prior to gluing the other side of the plate down:

Once that half dried (another 10 minutes) I drilled the holes all the way through the joining plates for the rivets and riveted the plates together:

Now I had a full backplate and was ready to form it, like my other plates I used various size/diameter metal ducts, silencers, water filter housings, pretty much anything that would give me the desired shape to form the PVC to, along with some hand shaping to clean up the edges and the "folding" technique I've used on other parts I came up with this:

And a test fit:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTestFit1.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTestFit2.jpg~original)

So there are a few little issue that I need to address before mounting the "Scout pack" first of all...
1. The "wings" on the lower corners have to be flattened out a little more (It feels like I wearing a Recaro racing seat on my back with the tight fit)
2. The shoulders don't align with the collar:
To fix this I think I will be modifying the shoulders of the backplate (chopping & re-shaping slightly ???) and using leather or PVC plates to join the collar to the backplate...

So whatcha think Vode?? ;D

Solid chunk of progress, hope you get the dyes to perform for you well.

Think you've already made a point on anything I would recommend tweaking, looking forward to seeing additional progress.

Dying is always tricky, and most costumers will have a story about how it produced some weird or wacky result. That backplate looks really good though :)

Yeah, and as far as the dyeing I'm gonna try my hand using iDye, I just need to find an old enamel pot to sacrifice!

Another update...

Tweaking the backplate...

So here's a pretty good illustration of how off the collarplate was from the shoulders of the backplate:

I got the alignment by placing the backplate on and marking the inside corners roughly with a pencil then actually measuring it to average the left and right sides:

Then I traced the shoulder piece to some card stock as a template to determine where the chopped piece would meet the side once aligned to meet up with the edge of the collarpiece:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFix03.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFix04.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFix05.jpg~original)

And while I was originally just going to cut the chopped piece down I accidentally got the pieces I chopped off of the shoulders mixed up and guess what?
When I put them on the opposite shoulder they lined up perfectly! :P
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFix06.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFix07.jpg~original)

So after using the same technique I used to join the backplate halves I re-attached the shoulders and cemented and riveted them in place:

And the test fit:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFixTestFit1.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFixTestFit2.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateShoulderFixTestFit3.jpg~original)

So how ya like me now?? ;D

Thanks Vode! ;)

Aaaand I have some more progress... ;D

Starting on greebling up the gaunts!

So I was on my way home the other day and spotted this on top of a "free pile" on the side of the road...
...So naturally I started by cutting it up! :P
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt01.jpg~original)

Once I took the halves of the remote apart and trimmed it down I grabbed the "Scope/Sight" from the BK toy I used for my RF/COMM on my bucket, trimmed off the pivot mount and trimmed the remote for a tight fit...
...Right Gaunt thus far:

For the other gaunt I was looking at the charred tip of my old O2 sensor and instantly though "Mini Flamethrower", since I am going for a very streamlined look this works perfectly! So I took a piece of 1.5" copper pipe I had left from making my scope, split it and bent it into a P-strap and found some leftover parts from my Nitefinder to add as an extra retainer clip:
Left gaunt so far...

Oh yeah, and I added the hinges to the gaunts if you couldn't tell from the pics! :P

Whatcha think??

Is the sky blue? Wait... don't answer that... I know, No, it's actually just a reflection of the water off the atmosophere... ???

But the answer is yes! ;D I have some spare green LED's that I can wire up from underneath to backlight the display that will be activated by one of the buttons on the remote. ;D

OK more updates...

I know, been a while (Had my daughter's 2nd bday last weekend and was making Super Grover 2.0 capes for the kiddies! ;))

So you remember the lower half of the Support bracket for the mini flamer?

Well here's what I did about a week ago with the upper part attached with some scraps of PVC:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/LtGauntBracket01.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/LtGauntBracket02.jpg~original)
And in place on the gaunt:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/LtGauntBracket03.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/LtGauntBracket04.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/LtGauntBracket05.jpg~original)
The gaps and missing corner will be filled with Bondo to smooth things out a bit better prior to the final mounting...

And last night I was cleaning up the rough edges from the support plates added to the knees and was staring at the left gaunt as if I had writer's (builder's) block :-\ , then started wandering around the basement looking for anything that would work as a greeb for the flamer gaunt... ???

Well, I found a cable grounding block, then RF cables, an old PC Power switch & indicators, A couple BNC connectors, the failed thermal switch I replaced in my dryer and a battery pod from a set of LED Christmas lights.
After about an hour or 2 of tinkering and dismantling this is what I came up with...
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt02.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt03.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt04.jpg~original)
and an alternate arrangement of the "fuel chambers"

Now keep in mind nothing is screwed down or otherwise mounted so things are a bit "wonky" here... but what arrangement looks better? I'll be using the switch to activate the 2 LED's as well (as if I could have a non-functional LED anywhere on my kit!)

Thanks Thaxos!

So I mounted a few of the greebs that I knew I wanted in certain positions (Custom support bracket, copper flamer brace, "Dart mount"
and then wasn't too keen on the original layouts... they seemed a bit too busy on top! :-\

So I pulled everything that wasn't mounted and started to lay everything out again...

I re-positioned the "Distribution block" to the side of the gaunt behind the flamer mount and rerouted the cabling for the dart throwers and the repositioned activation switch through the upper part of the custom support bracket, then filled the open back portion with another Nerf greeb...
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt06.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt07.jpg~original)

So do ya'll think this layout is better?  ???

Thanks Vod, and no worries about freebies here, I worked hard to scrounge those greebs up, between rummaging through leftovers at yard sales and toy swaps and keeping track of the parts I replaced on my car that's some hard work!

I have updates!!  ;D

So first just a quick update on the gaunts...
- What I did here:
1. Final layer of Bondo and sanding/shaping
2. Mounting the rear guard plate (and notching the cable guide to fit)
3. Sanding the logos off of the guard plate

(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt09.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt10.jpg~original)
I was also trying to figure out how to mount the "distribution block" to the side, since it had a recessed lip with little surface area for the glue to grab on to I cut a piece of PVC and made a plate that fit into the shallow recess and epoxied the plate to the block:
Once dry it was mounted using PVC cement directly to the side of the upper clamshell! (Sorry, no pics  ???)
So this gaunt is pretty much ready for primer! ;D

And on to the backplate...
So in my original concept I have a Biker Scout style pack, so I happened across this broom vac/dustbuster thing with some pretty interesting curves and shapes to it sitting in a "free pile" on my way to work, (hey, don't judge... I warend you this was a budget build!)
So I took the dust bin off and roughly chopped the side down to fit the curve of the backplate (Really rough, like almost not really close :P)
Well after many hours of shaping, mounting, remounting, adding bracing, changing bracing and greeb searching this is what I have!
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePack1.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePack2.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePack4.jpg~original)
The greeb on the right side and the fuel hose on the left are actually hiding the bolts that hold the center mounting brackets to the housing.
I still have to fill all the gaps with Bondo and glue the top cover plate to the housing, build the "targeting microcomputer that will be mounted on the right shoulder and run the wiring for it into the body of the housing before I can get this thing into primer...

So how's it look?? ???

PROGRESS!! ;D

Sorry I have been off of the boards for a while (between my folks being up from AR and getting the house ready for a week before they did! 2 Ren faires (one of which I won the cosplay contest for guys over 18 with my Jedi costume! :P)

But I have made some progress! ;D
(These may not be in the exact order that they were done but you will get the idea! ???)

So the first is cleaning up the seams on the backplate/pack, I decided to hide all the rivets with Bondo...

Round 1:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePackBondo01.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePackBondo04.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePackBondo05.jpg~original)
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePackBondo02.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlatePackBondo03.jpg~original)

And round 2:

I also installed the battery box for the "Targeting nano computer" that will be mounted on the right shoulder of the backplate...

First was to cut an opening for the battery box that was a little wider than and slightly shorter than the battery box:

Next I cut a cardboard box to protect the battery box and allow me to remove it from the backplate to replace the batteries and also maintain access to the power switch, then taped it in place under the fuel pack:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp05.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp04.jpg~original)

and with the battery pack in place:

Now, with the battery still in place I filled most of the void with expanding foam:
(This was all done prior to/during the bondo work! :P)
Next was all the previous Bondo work done...

Now you may ask "What is this Targeting computer you speak of??"

I'm glad you asked...
    ...This is it:
Well, the beginning of it anyways, this is the template on the box I'm using for the holes to be drilled for the LED's

And after the holes are drilled before being fitted with the light string:

Here's the light string after being shortened from almost 6' long!

But prior to wiring it up I had to shape the bottom to fit the curve of the backplate (it won't be glued in place in case I need to rewire it for any reason, I'll be using machine screws to hold it down):
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp08.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp09.jpg~original)

And with the lights installed with hot glue:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp11.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/BackPlateTargetComp10.jpg~original)

Lights ON!

And a quick vid:

I also got some polyester dye and re-dyed the flightsuit...
            ...in a crockpot!!!

Think it came out pretty much exactly the dark gray/charcoal color I wanted:

Still have some additional progress on the gaunts with electronics for the LED indicators and the viewscreen, but sadly won't make my original Halloween night deadline (I'm not gonna rush just to get it done, i want this to be the best kit it can be!

So what do my Vode think???

Am I doin' alright with the ideas? Also, any suggestions on how to mount the backplate would be appreciated!!! Harness?? Velcro?? Magic??

Quick update...

Backplate pretty much ready for paint...

So here's what I've done since the last post:  ;D
1. Mounted the "Targeting system micro computer" on the right shoulder including the "power converter" cable connection
2. Added detail to the exterior of the micro-comp including the connector for the data cables to the right gaunt
3. Shortened the cable to the  battery pack for the LED's in the micro-comp and soldered in a quick disconnect
4. Re-purposed the 2 little green "fuel cell" greebs I had on my flamer gaunt and turned them into cable/hose guards for the fuel hose and data cables

Overall shots:

Hose/cable routing:

Modified battery cable from inside:

I also filled the gap between the cable guards and the shoulder using Kwik Plastic:

Well, I think this thing is pretty much ready for paint!  ;D

Time to finish up the wiring on the gaunts and get these suckers into primer!  ;)

Smoothing out those rivets was definitely the way to go! It looks so much cleaner now :)

Everything else is looking good too :D

Thanks Vode! ;D

Trying to get this thing done before the end of the year, most parts are ready for paint  just need to figure out the best way to mount the back plate (thinking a combination of a harness/velcro will be the best) and get the alignment where the collar plate and the back plates meet on the shoulder to line up so I can make the pieces butt together and then attach them with leather plates over the shoulder .

And some more electronic fun...

Worked on the right "targeting" gaunt a bit more and added some lighting...
Off:

On:

The reticle is based off of the one from my blaster's scope (been slightly tweaked to display a better kill shot on the target!) and uses the same method for obscuring the image while the light is off (cut a piece out of the original T-visor from the J2P and mounted just behind the green lens)
A momentary pushbutton switch will be mounted where the hole is on the keypad and I am making a custom 3 AAA inline battery holder (since apparently nobody uses 3 AAA batteries in a straight line )

So, you like?? Oh yeah, any suggestions on the backplate mounting would be appreciated! ;D

And got a small update...
Wiring and primer!!

Got the wiring on the Targeting gaunt done:
Since no one locally carries 3xAAA inline battery holders  I had to custom make one...  :P
It was made from a RadioShack 2-AAA battery holder (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062246) like this:
I just used my Dremel to cut the "bridge" end off, then split it in 2 down the middle, then I made the middle retainer from a scrap piece of the page guards I used to bridge the seam in my bucket together and shaped it with my heat gun to the same shape as the edge of the battery holder halves, cut it down to fit and glued it into place with E6000. The LED's are from a broken lightsaber left from my stepdaughter's Jedi training birthday party we threw a few years back and was pre-wired in parallel, just had to wire the battery leads and switch into place! ;)

And the gaunts after the first coat of primer:

That's it for now!  ;D

Thanks Ner'vode!

I put a couple updates on my FB page for Jaa'det (http://www.facebook.com/MMCCJaadet)

So without further ado.... UPDATES!! ;D

After allowing the first coat of primer to dry well I wet sanded and added a second coat of primer then a coat of silver (using Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Aluminum (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-2X-12-oz-Aluminum-General-Purpose-Spray-Paint-249128/100670427?N=bm2%2FNtk-All%2FNtt-rustoleum%252Bspray%252Bpaint%3FNtx%3Dmode%2Bmatchall%26NCNI-5#.UpNolMRwp8F) spray paint:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt06.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt11.jpg~original)

The next step was toothpaste masking applied for the weathering and the base color coats, the flamer gaunt follows the color scheme of the rest of my kit so it is based in Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Semi-Gloss Black (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-2X-12-oz-Semi-Gloss-Black-General-Purpose-Spray-Paint-249061/202071351?N=bm2%2FNtk-All%2FNtt-rustoleum%252Bspray%252Bpaint%3FNao%3D48%26Ntx%3Dmode%20matchall%26NCNI-5#.UpNw98Rwp8E) and  the targeting gaunt I chose to go with red for a few reasons,
a. Wanted it to look a bit "kit bashed" as if the gaunt was from a fallen comrade's kit and the color was kept as a memory to them
b. a nod to the Fett man's color scheme (gotta pay homage somehow ;))

and masking removed:

After a good wipe down with alcohol to remove any residual toothpaste from the masking I taped off the gaunts for the second color...
- The Targeting gaunt I left the side rails and connector of the keypad masked and used toothpaste to mask off the keys and painted the background flat black, I also removed the lens from the scope primed and painted it gold
- The Flamer is getting the orange stripe scheme that will be carried through to the rest of my kit and is on my bucket

After paint with taping removed:

and after removing the toothpaste masking and a wet sand with 220 and 400 grit on the flamer gaunt:

more detailed shots of both gaunts:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt07.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt12.jpg~original)

I still have the black/brown wash to go and may go back with one more coat of orange to fix the cracked finish on the flamer gaunt after a good smoothing out but I actually kind of dig the way it came out!?!  :-\

Opinions? Comments? Suggestions?  ???

Bring 'em on! :P

Appreciate the comments Ner'Vode!

So I decided to keep the cracked orange  ;D and add some additional weathering with 60 grit sandpaper to add the fine scratches then the black/brown wash last night and here is the result:

Targeting gaunt:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt08.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt09.jpg~original)

Flamer gaunt:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt13.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt14.jpg~original)

All that's left is:
- One more run of fine scratches on the gaunts
- Clear coat both gaunts
- Make retaining clip for the targeting display bezel (Partially done)
- Mount the reticle display image to the gaunt and lenses to the bezel
- Mount LED's into place on the targeting display
- Mount and wire switch/LED's on flamer gaunt
- Mount all hardware on the flamer gaunt
- Add Velcro tabs for closures and pad/line both gaunts

These should be done soon (as well as another piece you may have seen plates for in the other recent pics ;))

Stay tuned!

Thanks Vode, I liked the effect myself! ;)

However that was short lived when I added the clearcoat  ???
for some reason the clear coat reacted with the semi-gloss black and it cracked as well :o... This time it wasn't recoverable :'(

So I masked off the crackled orange spots, wet sanded with 220 and 600 grit sandpapers, wiped doewn with alcohol, redid the toothpaste masking and went over it with a coat of flat black paint I had...
... so far so good, paint is dry and no reactions! ;D

However, on better news the flamer gaunt is finished!
The reticle image has been glued down to the gaunt, the LED's mounted from below and the scope bezel reassembled (lenses) and mounted...
I ran into an issue with the shade layer not wanting to stay glued down :P so I used a couple pieces of leather lace to hold the shade lens in place which actually work out better because there was a small gap under the edge that let the light bleed from under the bezel which they eliminated!

and here it is!
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt10.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntRt11.jpg~original)

You may have also noticed some extra plates in a couple of the previous posts and wondered what they were???
Well, early on I was told that the 'Grab-it Pack (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/c616/)' I was planning on using looked to earthy or recognizable
So I decided what better way to make it more "Swarzy"?? Armour plate it!!! ;D

Original:

Kandosii, ner vod. Kandosii.
Thanks Vode!

I see a zipper pull...:)
And Corey... :P
I gotta hide my twinkies somewhere! and no zipper pull would make it very difficult to get to them!! ;D

Well I was able to successfully fix the finish on the flamer gaunt and re-clear it with no crazing this time! ;D
So I started adding the electronics now, first thing was to remove the masking and mount the LED's and switch pod with some E6000:
All parts are pre-weathered and cleared with satin clearcoat, prior to starting the painting process on the gaunt I masked the area where the switch/LED pod was to be mounted so I had a clean surface to bond to (bonding to paint NEVER goes well for me!)

Next, for the LED's I drilled a hole from under the shield at the back of the gaunt and routed the leads for the LED's and the switch through to the inside of the gaunt.
Then I gutted a little flashing LED reflector my kids picked up at a fair (and broke :P) to use to activate the LED's
I de-soldered the LED's and the switch from the board and wired it to the leads for the switch and LED's:

Then I used the same double AAA battery holder from Radio shack for the power source, split it and mounted it with E6000 as I did on the targeting gaunt:

I also did some weathering on the other metal greebs...
Here is the copper strap to hold the flamethrower nozzle after being degreased in salt water:
**OOOO, SHINY**

And then after salt/venegar soak and taking a torch to it! (This was fun!! ;D)

Then after the protective satin clear coat:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt20.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/GauntLt21.jpg~original)

And the dart emitters after black/brown wash and satin clear coat:

And, as promised, a quick vid with an overview of the gaunt and showing off the lighting! ;D

So is this passable?? Think I'm definitely going to have to be adding some plates to the gloves (For protection from the flamethrower ya know!)

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! I wish I could apply my detail to sewing into making the fun stuff. It seems to allude me when it comes to adding SW details to my armor. You have inspired me to remake my gaunts. They are bulky, boring and need a revitalization. What is the base material?

Keep it up! Love the paint job too!

Wow, Thank you very much ;D

I'm sure you can get that detail in there with the greebs, my thought process is pretty much this...
1. Does it look like a functional part?
2. Does it look too "earthy" - if so MOD IT!
3. Does it look like anything similar to what is in any Star Wars Movie, show, comic, illustration, etc??? If so you're doin' it right!
4. Does it match my kit?? (Sometimes this doesn't matter if you have a good backstory for it... ;) Like the reasoning for my targeting gaunt ;D)
5. Can I make it light up??
Well, you kinda get the idea...  ??? :P
When looking for greebs realize that almost anything can be modded and adapted to your use!
I've picked up greebs anywhere from toy swaps, to old models/toys, to scrap material, to parts I've replaced on my car! Most of which were free!
Just know that in some cases less can be more, look at the bracers used in TCW... very simple, but effective and purposeful!

As far as your question about the base material all the plates are made out of 4" thin-wall sewer/drain PVC from Lowes (http://www.lowes.com/pd_24140-1814-PVC+30040++0600HC_0__?productId=3133147&Ntt=sewer+pvc&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dsewer%2Bpvc&facetInfo=). The Gaunt build started on Pg 7 about 3/4 down the page with the knees (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=55853.msg999804#msg999804). I have some decent documentation on the build process, if you have any questions on what I did, don't hesitate to ask here or via PM ;D

Good luck with the upgrades!

Getting closer here! ;D

So I finally got my Velcro in to mount the plates on my Flak vest!  :P
I got about 8.25' of 1.5" wide mil-spec sew-on Velcro (20 x 5" long pieces) from Ebay and started cutting, trimming and mounting the "hook" side onto my plates with E6000! ???

Then, starting with the collar, and working my way down from there to keep the spacing even as possible sewed in all of the corresponding "loops" onto the flak vest:
(I would sew in the loops for the collar, mount it, test fit, align next pair of plates marking where the corners lay on one side, then mirrored the measurements for the positioning of the loops, test fit again and continued repeating until all chest and shoulder plates are mounted)

And the test fit: ;)

A few things I saw once things were mounted
1. Shoulder bells need to be flattened a little bit to remove some of the bagginess at the shoulders (and probably brought up a few mm)
2. Chest plates are mounted with only 1 strip of Velcro currently because I needed to figure out if the "tusks" needed to be reshaped...
            ...they do :-[
3. So, reshape the "tusks" to lay a bit flatter and add more Velcro!
3. Lower ab plates need to be brought towards the center about 5 mm to even the gap

Think that just about covers it... ???

So... comments, critiques, suggestions???  :-\

It would help your shoulder problem a LOT  if you added some padding to the shoulders on the vest.  Just enough for them to sick outa bit from your arms.  This will also prevent the bobble head  look when you add your bucket.

I think I have some extra camp foam that I can cut to shape an put inside the sleevlets as well as slightly flattening the shoulder bells (they are kind of "pinching" the sleeves at the moment :P)...

Ask and ye shall receive! ;)

Mods from the last pics:
- Got the "tusks" sorted and additional Velcro added for them
- Reshaped the top peak of the upper ab piece as it was jutting out when looking at the kit in profile
- Relocate the lower split ab plates in about 3mm each to match the gap between the pectoral plates

Velcro additions/relocations:

Small update... :P

OK, while I was sewing on the Velcro for the backplate I realized that I never did another test-fit after reshaping/repositioning the plates ???

So here are a few shots (Please excuse the hazy pics, I forgot to clean the lens before taking the pics :-[):
Front shot showing the improved spacing of the lower plates:

And finally a shot showing that the plates are actually not stabbing me when I bend or crouch! ;D
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates8.jpg~original)

Sorry no pics with the backplate installed (I ran out of thread to mount the 2 largest strips of Velcro to the vest :P), I'll get those up as soon as I'm able to get some more upholstery thread to hold the Velcro onto the vest (Should be tonight  ;))

Stay tuned! 8)

Not that big of an issue...

If you look at this Jango (Arturo Delgado's kit, which is arguably the best Jango out there), you'll see that the space between the collar and chest plates is significantly smaller than the space between the other pieces...

It's a good observation on Niabi's part, and if you can easily do something about the spacing, you could pull them a bit apart. But if not, I don't think it's a deal breaker.

I gotta say, I've been watching this thread for quite some time and the amount of detail is simply amazing!  I personally cannot wait to see this kit in person completed.  With that said, I have to agree with kelan. Although a bit more space would be nice, I think it looks fine the way it is.  Now get that back plate attached and start painting!  ;D

Thanks Niabi, I did notice that after taking the pictures, luckily it is all velcroed in place and I have a few mm of wiggle room! ;)
As far as the width, I was going to trim the corners down at a slight angle to match up with the outer corners of the chest plates as well!

Thanks for the reference pic Kelan! Although I do intend to space it out just a little more, the gap between the chest plates and the collar is intentionally less than the other plates (although it's not supposed to be quite that small ) as I remembered that Jango's are not completely even for flexibility purposes just as shown in your pic!

You've done good work, vod.

Thanks for the encouragement Vode! I'm working on it, I promise  :P

I just tend to be a bit of a perfectionist (that is probably why I have test fit each one of these plates probably a dozen times while sewing on the Velcro "loops" to the vest to make sure they are in the right position, which was an obvious "FAIL" :-[)

I was able to get the upholstery thread for the lower large Velcro patches for the backplate and for the kidney guards and get the loops sewn to the back of the vest and got a test fit in doing chores for a bit with the backplate in place with no issues, I was thinking I may need a harness for the backplate but between the fit of the vest and the Velcro I'm using it doesn't seem necessary! ;D

So hopefully tonight I'll be able to trim down the corners of the collar, flatten out the shoulder bells just a bit more and mount all of the plates for a final test fit once the E6000 dries on the kidney plates! ;)

Ok after taking the suggestions given I have made a few final tweaks to the plates prior to this thing going to paint!  ;)

So here's the list:
- Got the Velcro glued to the back plates and corresponding pieces sewn to the vest.
- Reshaped the shoulder bells, again
- Trimmed the outer corners of the collarplate to match the chest plates.
- Re-spaced the chest plates to fix the gap between the collar/chest plates!

Thanks Vode! I'm hoping to get this thing wrapped up soon! ;D

As for an update... It's Paint time!

About 2/3 of the plates got final sanding to smooth out the rough edges & corners and their first coat of primer around 1:30 in the morning the other day!
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates14.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates13.jpg~original)
I think they look a lot nicer all one color ;), still have the collar/chest/ab plates to sand and prime (hopefully tonight)

Also got my half chaps in, sort of... they sent the wrong ones! I was supposed to get a pair that were suede and closer to the color of my shoes, but I have the seller looking for the right pair to exchange them, but until then these should work!

So pretty much the only elements of my kit that are actually "missing" (haven't been made) are the ammo belt and side/cross draw holster for my DL-33!

Time to kick this thing in the shebs to get app pics in soon! 8)

Vor'e Pesh,  ;)
The Half chaps were actually way too small (felt like I had a constrictor wrapped around my leg), so I am trying to get another pair that are the right size and hopefully can get a used pair so that they are "pre-weathered" :P

In other news, all the plates are now in primer! ;D
I got the chest/ab plates final sanding and primed them the other night! (sorry, my phone died and I forgot to go back an grab some pics ???)
But last night (This morning :P) I wet sanded the knees and shoulder bells and put a second coat of primer and 2 coats of aluminum!
and here's proof!

I just need to clean up a slight bit of wrinkling on the side of one of the knees, let em dry next to the heater for a couple days and start on the toothpaste weathering and base color them in orange! ;D

;D ??? Getting closer to app pic time! ??? ;D

I'm a big fan of the orange, my friend!!
Thanks vod, I saw that you went with some in your color scheme too! ;D
Thought it fitting after I read this post (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=33436.0) while trying to decide on a color scheme (besides it being my favorite color)

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but in the spirit of helpfulness, here's the link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mandalorian_armor (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mandalorian_armor)  You'll need to scroll down quite a bit, but it'll behoove you to read the rest of the info along the way.  If the link doesn't work, here's the quote of the meanings during and after the Clone Wars era:
As of the Clone Wars, these colors were known to have significance:
Gray=Mourning a Lost Love
Red=Honoring a Father
Black=Justice
Gold=Vengeance
Green=Duty
Blue=Reliability
Orange=A Lust for Life

These are the widely accepted meanings, though it must be noted that some Mandalorians simply prefer the look of a certain color and don't really care about its meaning.  Also, Journeyman Protectors are expected to have green as the primary color, and other canon characters naturally have their own set paint schemes.  I hope that helps.

Also, do not take this code to mean that you must stick to a single color. It is more visually appealing to combine colors that mesh well together.  Try to find colors that  A.You really like/want on your armor  and B.Have meaning pertaining to your character's personality.  Also keep in mind the color of your flight suit and other acccessories to ensure that your costume looks professional and appealing.

Somehow I've missed this. I've seen that bucket in your pic aroun a few places.... Those plates look wicked sexy.
Thanks vod, glad you found my WIP! Plate design was from probably about 5 years ago, just never got around to actually making them, now that they are actually real I can't wait to get 'em finished!

...Speaking of getting 'em finished... :P

Cleaned off the toothpaste weathering this morning... ;D

Et voila...
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates17.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates18.jpg~original)

Just need to add the Black stripe design to the Left knee, add the fine scratches/scrapes and dirty them up for these to be complete and ready to be cleared. I'll hold off on clear coating the shoulder bells until I have the sigils for my clan and specialty (will be applying for Spec Ops: Sniper Brigade once I get my sniper Verp built).

...Getting closer, one plate at a time! ;)

Vor'e Vod!  ;D

And borrow away! Considering it's a method I've seen elsewhere on the boards  :P
Just found that toothpaste seems to work best for me... plus it leaves the plates smelly minty fresh!

 Yep, minty fresh...

Well...
...now it smells like Aluminum base coat :-X

Still need to wet sand the backplate and get more primer to get a second coat of primer on it, then get the aluminum base coat on that as well!

But there is progress!! ;D

First few pieces done, then I ran out of black paint!
Just got another can of black, should get the other pieces (besides the backplate that I need to grab another can of primer for :P) should be done soon! ;)

Nice work vod ;) Looks Great
Thanks Vode! ;)

Got the masking removed from the pieces I painted the other day, aaaannnd voila!

I was also able to get some more black paint and got the rest for the plates I had the silver base on masked and painted black...
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates23.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates24.jpg~original)
I am trying a different approach on these plates since I was having the weird reaction with the black semi-gloss and the aluminum paints (which are both the same brand, RustOleum Painters Touch 2x) the black on these is just the $.98 WalMart brand paints sprayed on in alot of thin coats, and NO REACTIONS!!! :-\
Yeah, I know, the first 3 pieces were gloss black and the others are flat black (I apparently grabbed the wrong can when I was at Wally World :-[) but they are all going to be sealed with the matte clear coat so the paint underneath won't really make a difference!

Still need to grab one more can of primer so I can get that second coat on the backplate and get it painted with the aluminium base coat... ???

...That's all for now!

Update time!!! ;D

So I was able to stop and pick up some primer (Decided to try the RustOleum Automotive primer this time) and got the back plate wet sanded and re-primed!
So hopefully this will have the Aluminium base coat on by the end of the weekend!   :P

And I got the orange graphics taped off and painted successfully!!!  ;)
(Look Ma... no bubbles! :P)
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates27.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates28.jpg~original)

and with the tape removed:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates29.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates30.jpg~original)
Got to let them dry for a few days before adding the light scuffs/fine scratches and adding the weathering (the paint is taking longer to cure due to the temperatures around here ???)

I also got a couple other goodies in today, I'll have to get some pics later and show 'em off! ;D

Well, looks like I'm getting closer to the final assembly! 8)

One last question to my Vode... Debating on painting the backplate orange with the black accents, as a contrast to the front plates, or should I just keep the black with orange accents??   :-\

Help please!!! ???

Thanks Vode! 8) I'm glad to see that the original design from my concept drawings came through too! ;D

Well I got the masking off of all of the orange and must say it looks better now! ;)

Time to dirty 'em up with some high grit sandpaper to get the fine scratches and add the black/brown wash and seal 'em up with a few coats of matte clear.

Then there's the back plate...
It's now got the aluminium base coat and has been drying for 2 days, it's ready for the toothpaste masking and black base coat as everyone has suggested! (Thanks vode ;)) It will have both orange and green accents (moss green color from the cheeks on my Buy'ce will be used on the "fuel cell" and the hose pass-throughs on the shoulders)

Shame on me :-[... I still haven't been able to show off my new goodies I got in, they pretty much round out the missing parts of my kit!  8)
I'll have to try to get some shots of 'em tonight if possible! ;)

So I pretty much just have to find an attachment method for the knees and a holster for my sidearm and that should pretty much be it!

Considering that or Leather, will be a cross-draw holster on my right side, plus I want to try to avoid wear where the plastic touches plastic, so I'll probably go with the leather to avoid it! ;)
(and, YES, I can reach across my chest with the plates! ;D

OK, so it's coming along slowly but shirley (Yes, I called you Shirley!)

Got all the painted pieces, except for the shoulders and knees , scuffed with some 120 grit sandpaper to get the fine scratches and they're ready for weathering...

And I wanted to bring the green from the cheeks into the armor... so I added it to the chest diamond since I thought the silver in the middle just looked unfinished :P
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates35.jpg~original)

I also got the toothpaste masking on the backplate and the black topcoat on!!! ;D
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates33.jpg~original)

And here are my goodies!
*that could really be taken wrong!*

I got some ammo pouches from eBay:
Since the lighter browns don't match at all I'm going to dye the lighter brown black and weather them a bit so they match a bit better!

I also got another pair of half-chaps! (Pair #3, sorry for the dark pics, my phone was pretty much dead so the flash wasn't working :-[)
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HalfChaps1.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HalfChaps2.jpg~original)
These are actual leather and match my shoes much better and can be weathered much better! ;D
I still have the last pair I bought but they were a little bit too small for me, They were a pair of brown suede with velcro closures in really good shape, slightly used, if anyone is interested I'll be posting them in the supply depot before putting 'em back on eBay, (or you can PM me if you want more details before I do! :P)

...Onto the next step!

...More weathering and paint apps to come!!!  ;)

Vor'e! Vindar            (Shirley )

And I got a bit more work done here...

So these are the ammo pouches I got from eBay...
They don't match exactly and I thought they would look odd if I put them side-by-side on the belt because of the coloring and varied weathering so I was going to dye the lighter brown leather pieces black to make them match better. :-\
Well the more I thought about it that still wouldn't fix the fact that they are made slightly different and I wanted the ammo belt to be symmetrical...

So I started with this single pair:

And used a utility knife to split it into the 2 pouches:

After cleaning up the edges a little bit with a pair of scissors I wanted to sew the edges back up but I don't have a leather sewing awl ???
So I grabbed my drill and the smallest drill bit I have and drilled a bunch of holes about 2 mm apart starting at the top and used double threaded black upholstery thread and a glovers needle to sew the cut edges back together (To keep things aligned I drilled the first 3 or 4 holes and sewed them shut tightly then proceeded down the side 3 or 4 holes at a time, threading them as I go, until I got to the bottom ;))

And then they were 2...

Now they can flank the other 2 and I don't need to mess with the weathering (which I actually liked in the first place)

I also added the color layer to the back plate:

Masked:

Unmasked (except for the toothpaste :P):

I still have a few details to add to the paint job (Warning symbols for the fuel hose and electro-converter) and also need a greebly or 2 on the top of the fuel cell so it doesn't look so blank.

Well that's all for now ;D

And the idea for splitting the pouches actually came on somewhat out of laziness :-[
...I really didn't feel like dyeing with shoe dye :P even though that would have been easier and quicker...
...so my laziness was counterproductive!

But I did make these in Illustrator... ;D

Vor'e Vode! 8)
And Pesh, I think it would be a bit of a trek for ya... but sure! Just be warned, I'm not sure if I know ALL of my tricks yet either!

Aaaaannnnd theres more!!!
Here's a test spray of the stickers I made with the matte clearcoat (Just to make sure that the inks don't run or react to the clarcoat)
Looks like it works to me!  ;D

So I picked what looked like the best size symbols for the 2 locations, cut the stickers ("chipping" the edges in a few spots) and put them down:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates39.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates38.jpg~original)

Once I got thos details in place something was bugging me about how blank the top of the fuel cell looked, so I found this for a greebly when I was washing the dishes:

So I drilled a 1" hole in the top of the Fuel cell and popped it in place as an intake vent:

Once I was sure it fit I went ahead and painted it up (I also found another greebly to go next to it as well):
These will be glued in place and weathered before clearing the backplate. ;D

Oh yeah, I was also able to weather all the plates except for the backplate:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates43.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates44.jpg~original)

The reason I wasn't able to weather the backplate was because it is drying after having to touch up a few thin spots and paint the inside of the mounting spots for the new greeblies... but I did add the fine scratches to it! :P
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates45.jpg~original)

Well, that's all for now, gotta get some more matte clear coat, mount the new greeblies and wrap up the weathering on the backplate and the paint apps should be done!
d= ;D =b

:-[ Awwww shucks Vode! :-[

Y'all are gonna make my buy'ce to small for my noggin' with compliments like that!

Well, I pulled out some of the leatherwork tricks this time...
I have been somewhat dreading making the cross-draw holster for my DL-44, primarily because I've never designed or made a holster before ???
So I pretty much attacked it like all the other parts... time to make the pattern! (Sorry, I forgot to get pics, will get some up later)
- The pattern was pretty much as simple as laying the gun down on a cardboard box, using one of the straight edges to line up with the top of the blaster just under the scope and roughly mark the points where I wanted the holster to fit snugly or wrap around (tips of the muzzle, corners of the radiator to where the trigger guard meets the grip and then the rear point of the sight rail and grip. then pretty much played connect-the-dots to make the base for the pattern.
- Next I copied the pattern over and measured the width of the blaster at various points to figure out how wide to make the top and bottom sections
- Once I had everything figured out I did a test fit with my cardboard mock-up and tweaked where necessary (like cutting out around the switch on the left side)
- Now that the pattern pieces were sorted I transferred the pattern to the leather... unfortunately I didn't have a piece wide enough for the top piece  so I decided to divide the top up into sections to be riveted together later to match the pattern, besides I like the layered look it gave it.

To make the corners tighter I cut a V-notch along the inside of the leather along the corners the riveted everything together with a combination of 1/8" pop rivets and 1/8" leather rivet (pop rivets went where the connection was more mechanical and would not be seen:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/NiteFinderHolster02.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/NiteFinderHolster03.jpg~original)

I have to re-do the top of the snap and add an extension tab to make it a little easier to pop the snap and will probably tea or coffee dye the leather to grunge it up a bit! :P

But I'm pretty pleased with the results ;D... What do ya think???

    ...And, go for it bud!!

One thing I did forgot to mention was that the belt loop was made wide to avoid the holster from twisting down on the belt! :P

But I may have to re-do a couple of them because I got some bubbling on a couple of the pieces :-X

Ah, well, back to the grindstone... ???

I never clear coated any of my armor................. it's funny though cause i have a rivet from my pauldron that rubs my collar piece, and it's only worn it down to the primer coat.. not through it. looks mighty realistic too..  so for me bumps and scratches are just free weathering lol

The main purpose of the clear coat (besides protection) is to even out the finish on the parts, some were painted with gloss black and others were painted with matte black :P
The matte clear coat evens it all out to a nice evenly colored finish! ;)

Oh yeah here are a couple shots of the greeblies installed and weathered on the fuel tank (the whole thing also has 1 coat of matte clear too!)
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates47.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates48.jpg~original)

So I was trying to figure out how I was going to mount both the boba pouches and my holster and got to looking at my Jedi belt for inspiration:
I figured that if I use a 2 layer belt I can slide the boba pouches over the under belt (2.5" wide) and then mount the ammo pouches and holster to the top belt (1.25" - 1.5" wide). So I'm about to order a leather strap to use for the under belt and use a nylon belt that matches the one on my grab-it pack for the outer belt! Just gotta decide if I want dark brown to match the other leather that I'm using or black??? :-\ :P :-\

Vor'e Vod! And that was the direction I was leaning anyways, should have the brown one today! ;)

Much appreciated Vod!

Speaking of the holster... ???

I was trying to fit it onto the web belt and realized that the belt loop is actually too small for the buckles to fit through!  :-[ :P
So I did this:
Adding the snaps will let me snap it over the belt without having to worry about the buckles...
... I also added a tab to the snap for the tie-down strap to make it easier to open! ;)

And I also attached a belt to the codpiece with some leather backers:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates49.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates50.jpg~original)

And a test fit:

I also got the knees done... Riveted the slide adjuster on using some leather strips and added a heavy duty elastic straps from a pair of shin guards I picked up at a recent toy swap, again riveted down with leather backers to prevent tear-through. I also painted and weathered the rivets ;D
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates51.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates52.jpg~original)

And the test fit:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates53.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/FlakVestPlates54.jpg~original)

Just waiting on the dark brown under belt to wrap that up that piece and some weathering to do on the half chaps
(should be pretty easy considering I have some dirty snow hills outside I can go tromping through!)

Yes, it is a guitar strap! Picked it up on Ebay for less than $10!
(Hey Kelan, it's brown Canadian leather! ;))

The reason I used the guitar strap was because it is pre-dyed through and through and is 2.5" wide, exactly the size the the belt loops on my Boba pouches!

I just removed the adjustable strap and trimmed the ends to match (one was slightly rounder than the other :P). then I found the center point and added 4 - 13mm (1/2") wide belt loops spacing them evenly from the center so they line up with the ends of the ammo pouches and hold the upper strap in place at the ends. The upper strap is 2 adjustable nylon tie down belts that I added the buckle to and riveted at the middle with an aluminium plate to hide the open ends:

And the test fit with the cod and kama/girth belt! ;D
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/AmmoBelt03.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/AmmoBelt04.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/AmmoBelt05.jpg~original)

So All I should have left to do is:
- Assemble the backplate
- Add padding to the inside of the gauntlets (to keep them from twisting :P)
- figure out how to attach the gaunt cables inside the upper sleeve of the flight suit
- Re-glue the edges down on some of the Velcro patches
- Weather the holster and half-chaps

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!  ;D

 :o :o Fierfek, its a train!!!!!

- figure out how to attach the gaunt cables inside the upper sleeve of the flight suit

and to prove it here's my gauntlets:

:o wow thats some great looking work there vod ;) Love it all
Vor'e Vode!

Well those last couple things...
- figure out how to attach the gaunt cables inside the upper sleeve of the flight suit
- Re-glue the edges down on some of the Velcro patches
- Weather the holster and half-chaps

I figured out the best way to attach the cabling was with snaps...
So I added snaps to the inner sleeve just behind the center line and about an inch from the shoulder seam backed with 19mm x 19mm pleather backers
(I also put a dab of e6000 on the fabric itself to keep it from fraying):

I then made tabs to hold the tops of the cabling out of the same thin pleather material with the snap tops on them:

And with the parts in place:

I also had a bit of fun with weathering the holster ;D...
So I had it ride around in the snow left in the bed of my truck to and from work (30 minutes each way), sat on the dash in the sun all day, rubbed on the tires covered in sand/salt mix, thrown in the bottom of the log carrier while I brought wood in for the woodstove, then washed with a very thin black/brown wash (a couple dabs of brown and  a dab of black to about 1/4 cup of water, dabbed and smeared on with a paper towel) and is now sitting on the dash again!

So I'm pretty much ready for pre-app pics except for one thing...

...I forgot to make handplates!!! :-[

Well, hopefully will be able to get those knocked out pretty quick... :P
I'll try to get some pre-app pics up this weekend so y'all can tell me if I missed anything or have any suggestions! ;)

I want Pics  :P
Soon! ;)

Sorry guys... been a bit delayed, my wife has been in and out of the VA hospital/Doctors offices/Chiropractor for the last week with mystery muscle/organ pains so I've not had alot of time to get the pics...

But I did manage to get the last parts of my kit almost done while my wife and daughter were resting:  ;D

Cut, shaped, and test fit for sizing:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates01.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates02.jpg~original)

On to aluminium base coat:

Black base color and orange top coats applied with masking:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates04.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates05.jpg~original)

I just have to do the black/brown wash and clear coat, then glue the velcro to the bottom and make an elastic/velcro hand strap to hold it down!  ???

Thanks Vod! She's doing much better now! ;)

And I got the hand plates weathered and clear coated and made the hand strap for them...

The strap is done similar to the way I've seen done on the 501st boards using a solid upper elastic strap then a bottom strap that velcros under the wrist
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates07.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/HandPlates08.jpg~original)

I also decided to make a couple braids for my shoulder:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/Braid01.jpg~original)(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g174/moonknight75/Star%20Wars/Madalorian%20Mercs/Beskargam%20Builds/Resized/Braid02.jpg~original)
These are actually my own "padawan braids" from a loooooong time ago (as in, they're my own hair :P)

Oh, and as requested...
Full kit pre-app pics! ;D

Your right chest plate looks like it's overlapping just a bit on your collar plate. Might be the angle or might be that you just need to pull you vest down a bit on that side.

For the weapons pics, just take a picture of the weapon by itself or a close up in your hand.

Now, that being said... This is an AMAZING kit very well planned and extremely well executed. The color choices, patterns, choices of fabric... Very very well done.

I have some shots from my DL-33 WIP of just the blaster I should be able to use (or should I be holding it while kitted up? :-\)
I will probably re-take the pics tonight because the aren't as sharp as I would like... and the AF on my DSLR decided to not work until I took the outside shot  :P
I'll adjust the collar gap on the left chest plate, and rotate lower right ab plate, attach the braids better and take the series over again and submit my app! ;)

Fantastic job my friend  8)  I'm very excited to see this kit finally together, won't be long before you're an official shark!  Just a suggestion, the outer sleeves of your flight suit could come up about 1-2 inches to give your elbow a little more breathing room.  Now that's just a suggestion and I don't think you'll get dinged on it, but I think it would make your arms a bit sleeker.  Either way, I love this kit!

A picture of just your weapon will do just fine.  I laid mine out on a sheet to take the picture.  No need to hold it.  :)
Thanks Corey, I have shots from my blaster WIP that will work then! ;D

FANTASTIC work, my friend!!! I'm loving those hand plates, very good way of attaching them! Should be seeing those kill stripes by your name in no time!!
Thanks bud! The attachment method was mainly because the gloves I'm using were $80 and I didn't want to damage them! The palms are TouchTec leather and allow me to use my smartphone without taking them off... or I can change the gloves to lighter ones during the summer if I want to!

Thanks for the suggestion, I kind of prefer the longer upper sleeve as it will keep the hose/cables from getting snagged, if the app team says anything about it I can easily shorten them though! :P

This is a great build! I really admire all of the scratch building that has gone into this. As i'm going through the pages of your build I keep saying "THAT'S BRILIANT!!" or "NO FRACKIN WAY!!!" It's been an exciting read  ;D
Thanks Vod, Glad you had fun with the thread...

I actually caught myself going back and re-reading the whole thing seeing how my kit has evolved along the way with help from everyone offering suggestions and support. This is exactly why I am proud to be part of this club... family... ;D Vor'e to everybody who has helped, offered inspiration and encouragement!

Well, I was going to retake my app pics last night but once again my DSLR decided to eat the last batteries I had before I could take the pics! ???
Even my point and shoot batteries were both dead! :P

Well, going to pick up a pack of batteries tonight and get those plates sorted and retake my pics so I can send in my app!

Wish me luck!!! ;)

Congrats Jaa'det!

It was a pleasure watching your build come together. You always put in the little bit of extra effort that really counts when making something great. The decision to approve your armor was an easy one.

Looking forward to seeing what's next for you!
