Post by: dcubed121 on Dec 13, 2012, 08:38 PM
finally made it down to get some expanded PVC.  I decided to throw out the fibreglass stuff.
Started on some mock ups for chest(used existing pieces) and leg/thigh.

Yeah it's way too big for you...

I think you should shrink it to look something like this...

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone.

Hopefully I can resin some of the pieces today. Assuming the weather cooperates.

i wanted to run something by everyone before i started glassing the back pieces.

as it stands the back armor is segmented and each piece is overlapped by the one above it by a few inches(2-3).

should i leave it as is or cut out the overlap and have the pieces sit close together but with a bit of a gap between pieces?

I decided to remake the back plate as one piece.
I will resin/ glass it as one piece then cut it to get the segmented look.

Also resin glassing on hold until the temperature goes up a bit. The wifey does not want me doing it in the garage because it is very aromatic.

Came up with some shoulder/bicep pieces.  The plan is for one overlapping set that starts on the shoulder And runs down the bicep.

It was finally warm enough to resin. Got one coat on the back plate, shoulders and part of the chest.

If I may give a lil advice with your shoulders. Make sure your gaunts and bicep plates are spaced enough. You don't want what is called armor bites. If the two are to close they will pinch. As for the back doing a segment style will help with bending. I like it so far will be watch your build. Keep going.

Thanks for the input. I have been consideeing removing the last plate on the shoulders.
I need to walk the line between looking like heavy armor And still keeping most of my range of movement.

One other update. Iam redesigning the chest piece. After reviewing the reference material, I've decided the diamond is not present in that period and the chest piece should be one piece not two.

If anyone has anything to refute this please let me know.

I've decided to consolidate everything into one thread. here are the updated pictures.
-note-the chest will be split in two for a better fit/ease of movement

A question for everyone on weaponry. Are miniaturized versions of vehicle weaponry acceptable. i want to make sure my idea is OK before i start cutting up the stuff i bought.
I want to make the shock wave generator that is a Basilisk droids main weapon.
so basically the "head" plus a rear section.

so trying to re cut and fill the bucket to meet the new design failed miserably. too much bondo and i cant get a good, clean ridge for the forehead.
i decided to rework my original model and reprint/fiberglass.
i accidentally came across a slight variation trying to get the model to line up.
what does everyone think?
