Title: Ad'ika Armor WIP
Post by: Dar'manda on Mar 22, 2013, 08:37 PM
Test fit of the templates.  I think they are a little big but I need your thoughts.

They look pretty good to me. Maybe a fraction too wide.
Where does the bottom of the ab plate sit in relation to his belly button?

Almost on top of the belly button

Length is pretty much spot on then. It's a bit tricky with the ad'ike as when you start making it the size is just right, but by the time you finish it they've grown and it is too small.

Yeah,

I think I will cut it, shape it, and fit it to see how it wears.  Knowing him it will be about right by the time I am ready to submit him for OM.

Armor for the chest has been cut.  I will be shaping it soon but I think it is a little wide as is.  I doubt the shaping will make enough of a difference so I will have to bring it in a little.  He also needs a helmet pad so he can have some sort of a neck.

Hope you didn't take too much off... They may seem a bit large because they're flat, but once shaped... Anyway let's see what you came with!! I'm sure it's gonna look awesome, just like your own kit ner'vod!

Hope you didn't take too much off...

1/4th inch each side, roughly and thanks for the compliments.  Pics after work.

Ok,

Trimmed just a tad and shaped.  The left side looks a little wide but I was having a hard time with tape and alignment so it is at a slight angle.  A little more off?

That looks great. One suggestion I have is to make the edges of the chest plates and ab where they are adjacent the same for all parts. At the moment that part of the chest plates has rounded corners, whereas the ab plate has more angular corners. Make sense?

It does and I can do that.

Armor for the boy is done.  That backplate looks off but it's the camera angle.

Thanks,

We went much lighter on his weathering than I did with mine. He's 11 so he hasn't had time to get it really dirty.  Not bad for a trashcan.

Duct tape sucks for trying to keep this up.  I think the plate sizing is about right.  I am not sure about the vest shoulders though.  I also noticed that the back plate needs to be adjusted near one of his shoulders to be level with the other side.

Thoughts?

Crunch time,

Aside from some sagging in the belt area and maybe a too big loin, any other glaring issues before we take application pictures?

I have a couple of things I need to address before I send him in for OM status but I think it came out well overall.

Looking good vod!!

I would suggest you tidy up the belt area (as you mentioned). If you could get the girth to cover the top of the kama and the loin cloth, that would help the over all look a ton...!!

But it's a great verd'ika kit that's for sure!

Looking good ner vod! The color scheme came out great and sporting "Buttercup" is a nice touch  :D
He looks like he can handle the "heavy weapon" you just made. OYA!

I love it!  I can't wait to get pics with him and Josh together.  The little red Mandos will look so cool side by side.  Josh has grown since his last troop so I hope his kit still fits him.  We should arrange a photo shoot with the little guys  ;D

I plan on tightening that area up a bit to resolve those things.  Hopefully we will be sending app pics this weekend.  If nothing more, con next week should be a blast.

Lol, this is killing me.  Spacing is perfect until he starts moving and then things settle and close ranks.  I think I need to close up his clips on the sides to keep things tight.

Josh's armor moved around a lot in the beginning when it was just held on by Velcro. So I ended up drilling through the armor, vest, and Velcro. Then I added pop rivets and everything stayed in place and in alignment. Josh's vest can be adjusted but we do tighten all the straps to keep it snug against him. That all helped keep things in place.

Hopefully you tightening the vest should do the trick. I think he is looking so cool :)
