Title: Z-6 jetpack made from scratch
Post by: Merr-Sonn on Apr 24, 2013, 03:39 AM
Recently, some of my friends have asked me to do the Z-6 jetpack.
Previously, I made Z-6 for my son. The effect was quite good:

After analyzing a number of reference images, plans, drawings I made technical drawings with my own solutions.
 Objectives of the project:
 - Moving side nozzles (adapted for use servo)
 - Removable rocket with automatically opening wings (or adapted for use servo)
 - Flashing beacon
 - Size: width 16". No 15" or 16 "75. Size of 16" is perfect for all users.

This is first photo of my jetpack. Really :). Of course it is hidden in this stuff :).

Can't wait to see the progress on this. The talent you showed on your helmet build was top notch so I'm sure this will turn out to be stunning too!

Today afternoon I received parts which were cut by laser plotter.
I made technical drawings and for plotting all parts are vectorised in Corel Draw.

Niabi. Also 1litre of cola and 3D glasses ;D ;D
Byrek. I want to make molds, because my 2 friends ordered Z-6. If You will want jetpack, it will be possible after CEII.
One of ordered jp MUST be ready before CEII (BF ROTJ version). So I'll show You it in real.
Now I offer only my T-rex helmet (also in dented version) and (in future) mando pilot helmet. I'm preparing it for me for CEII, but some of vode are interested to get it.

Contrary to appearances, I worked on these xmas balls without singing xmas carols.
Xmas Eve spirit I reduced to the one glass of Ballantine's (40% of spirit) .... :)

So... next step. Yesterday I received first part of pieces made by "my" turner. They are made of alu and polyamide and are waiting for silicone to make molds.
Some news in corpus of jp. Alu tubes are put on corpus for try.

This is simply incredible!

I have a question or two xP

So are you using Sintra as your main construction material? And also the parts you had cut, did you have them directly cut out of the Sintra(?)? And where did you take it to have them cut? Was it just a "good ole person I know" type thing? Or was it a business?

I appreciate your time in answering my questions, and I look forward SO much to seeing your continued work on your J-pack. Keep the updates coming and I'm sure the community will keep trying to wipe drool of their keyboards xP

Hi :) Thx for Your opinion. Nice to read it :)
I'm in hurry because this JP I'm making for my friend who is going to Essen . So it is possible to see it in real :).
It is just prototype so it is almost finished. Some finishings, smoothings etc will be made later. Molds of corpus I want make in october. Molds of all other parts I have now :). Fins for rocket I've cut of alu.
So, Main material of corpus is 2mm polistyrene sheets and 16, 18, 22mm pvc electrical pipe, also 100mm pvc pipe of ventilation systems (OBI, Leroy Merlin, Praktiker or other hobby markets), also I use alu tubes. Sintra is OK for internal fastenings. Sintra is not good for me because it has to soft surface. As glue I use SuperGlue. Prototypes of some parts are made by my friend. He is professional turner. All parts which were cut of 2mm polistyrene sheet are cut by laser cutter. It is cut by one of advertising companies in Torun. All drawings for cutter I prepared in Corel Draw.  Alu tubes are standard 70mm tubes.

More ? Hmmmm, so here are some pics of finished jetpack.
This is a "trial" version for CEII and some conventions. Then I want to sand the body and prepare it to perform mold.
The result of two days of intensive painting :D

Prudii, I love You too    :P ;D

Now my aerograph is out of order. Shading I made using spray paint. It looks not enough good. I know it.
When I'll do mold of jetpack's corpus and cast it, I want to paint it properly :)
Also some details must be made, e.g. head of beacon light must have holes, etc.
