Title: My various costume electrical guts...
Post by: Kebii'tra Verda on Jul 11, 2013, 04:08 PM
I figured Mandalore would be the first to post, but I feel honored to have the first topic in this section. :P

Simply put, my bucket is a work in progress as I'm always finding new and better things to put in it. But as it stands right now, here it is:

RIGHT SIDE:

Here we have the guts of a Radio Shack amplifier. I disconnected the speaker that came with the case and wired up my own speakers that sound through three vent holes in the cheeks on either side. My current microphone is the element from a dynamic (no phantom power needed) el-cheapo microphone. It serves its purpose but it is a bit big. I'm looking into a replacement soon.

Also you can see one of my two new mini squirrel cage fans. They do cool effectively, but they are quite noisy. I'm either going to get an in-ear headset with an external mic to hear people outside my bucket, or I'm going to relocate them to the back of my bucket with "ducting" to still give me the airflow I want and need.

LEFT SIDE: (sorry it's blurry!)

This side has just the other squirrel cage fan and the battery and switch for it. Again, might be moving it to the back of the bucket...soon.

PILOT BOX:
I needed...something to accent my pilot box, so I wend on eBay to see what I could find for lighting, and I found flashing, multi-color LEDs.

The cool thing is that they come like this...no construction needed. Simply connect it to a 9v battery and switch and they flash on their own.

I've got another LED bar graph project I'm working on and I'm just waiting for the components to come in, so I'll update with that when it's ready.

CRYPES VOD!   ever hook a capacitor on your ear like that?

also....exposed circuit...eh-might be a good idea to get some insulation on that board...the silicone insulation spray I mean, I've had circuits fry from perspiration and all it takes is one component to get fryd and it can throw the whole thing off  :-[

I appreciate your concern, however I have had this same setup in 3 different helmets for the past two years and I have never had a problem. :) I usually do have a piece of foam covering the electronics, but for this picture I took it off to show the component.

I found a schematic for a very interesting electronic component. if I can get it to work right, I will be putting it on my center diamond. More details to follow...

Foam works, though I would recommend a plastic covering to avoid accidental shorts and in case of the unlikely event of a capacitor failing.
