Hi guys and gals.
I'm in the stages of building my armour (only one gauntlet so far, pepakura) but planning my soft parts. I may ask stupid questions so please bare with me.
Flightsuit I'm just gonna buy one from an army surplus store. Being tall and skinny o may need it tailoring. When I buy it I'll post a pic and get opinions.
Confirmed Soft Parts:
Flak Vest - When ready to I'm going to order a K'raam Xrati vest in white.

Tactical Gloves

Tactical Belt - I'm going to remove non storage accessories/loops.

Boots - I will be adding guards over the laces.

A few more questions regarding soft parts. Mainly are these suitable.
Flight suit - is this ok?

Gloves - cover any logos, and you should be set.
Belt - I dunno, could look too earthy. Leather is best. I'd check with an app team member; it may depend on how earthy the rest of your kit looks.
Flight - zippers need to be covered or removed (so they are no visible), and arms and legs will probably need to be tailored (because everyone's do), but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Boots - cover laces and any logos and you're good.
-
Gloves - yeah appears to have no logos but will cover if so. Was just checking fingerless ed acceptable?
Pouches - Are the leather ones above yo earthly? I was thinking of putting 6/7 together on a leather belt?
Flight suit - I think this suit has leg adjusters on to tighten then. If not I'll get them tailored. The zips only one of concern is the thigh one. All others would be covered I believe.
Thanks for the info. I'll see what the Approval Team guys say, if they read this.
-
Yep, fingerless is ok. Those leather pouches look fine to me - the more the merrier ;D
You might try a kama or thigh plates to cover the thigh zipper.
-
May remove the zip on the thigh not sure I want thigh plates I'll see what happens.
Thanks again for the info Vod.
-
All your parts are fine. If you don't have thigh plates to cover the leg zipper and hold the leg material tight, you'll definitely need to remove the zipper or hide it under thigh pouches, and tailor the legs a bit most likely unless you have legs like trees.
-
So even the tactical belt is ok too?
-
Yep, plenty of official Mandos with one. Just no cellphone pouches.
-
With the tactical belt being ok to use, does that mean drop down leg holsters are too?
-
Yes, but leather gear is recommended. Nylon web tactical gear is not very Star Warsy.
-
I'm gonna give making my own leather posts a go, if it looks crap when done I will go down the tactical web route. I'm just not 100% confident I'm my leather working ability.

Farm it out. There are plenty of folks on here that can work leather, and would be willing to do a custom job.
-
I'll give it a go myself first. If unsuccessful I'll farm it out. Thanks vod.
-
In the process of making a dip down leg holster. Using a ring binder as its core, covering it with a fake leather etc. For the leg strap, does that need to be the same colour as the flight suit or the holster?
Also are elastic vents suitable to use as girth belts? I plan to have on under my ammo/voice amp pouches?
-
Few bits still to sort but managed to form a holster from a ring binder.

What the stand in gaiters? Can they be used under shin guards/in place of?
-
Like half chaps? Yeah, you can use them with or without shin armor.
^Like that, right?
-
Thanks Ref. Yeah essentially these. Tho I'll likely add the shin plate to them. I have skinny legs and hoping these will hold them in place better.

-
I would try and find something more form fitting to the leg.
-
There likely is. I have a pair I use for hiking, tighter fitting than those. Just used that as a reference image. I could always try junior ones fir tighter fit?
-
You don't want anything too baggy looking. Shin armor will also help hold it down and not look so baggy too.
-
Ok. I got my flight suit for Christmas. I think the only thing I need to take in is the sleeves. All thoughts welcome.

-
Just bumping this as I'd like thoughts on the suit before I take it to my local seamstress.
-
I just read your posts. When I was reading peoples comments about the zippers on flight suits it gave me an idea. Unstitch the zippers you don't need, jag the edges of the area to make it look like a tear in the suit, & then sew it up to make it look like a repair. It should give the suit a worn look & some battle damage.
I forgot to mention, I like your idea for the holster. I may have to use it.
-
The coveralls look good to go as is, just take off the dickies logos and maybe the back pockets unless you plan on covering them with a kama. The zippers on your chest will be covered by armor. Gauntlets will cinch down the sleeves around you forearm and your gaiters will tighten down you lower leg slack.
-
Thanks for the tips vode. Logos already removed. I'll remove the back pockets. Do the pen pockets on the sleeves need removing? I'll leave alterations til I've got the gauntlets and leg bits. I'm deceivingly skinny.
-
Leave the pen pockets and get some tools to put in them. I say don't alter it since only upper arms and thighs will be loose.
-
Are there any examples of tools I can use?
Thanks again for the tips.
-
Look at Boba's shin tools for inspiration or store some darts or something in them for a dart launcher.
-
Ah I get you. Thanks vod.
-
First attempt at a faux leather pouch.

Will likely replace these with real leather of funds allow.
-
Are these boots suitable?
I'd be adding foot guard and possibly shin guard.

Sure. I severely doubt your feet will be able to breathe in them, but they should work, yeah.

Flak vest has arrived.

Ammo pouches arrived today. Austrian army StG58 ammo pouches. Fitted then to an old leather belt and added the holster.

Are elastic waist belts suitable as girth belts?
-
CRLs want any elastic to be concealed unless it is for knees and the Boba thong. You can use an elastic waist belt as a base and cover it for the girth belt. On a side note, could you PM me or just give details of how you turned a 3ring binder into a holster?
-
Tried sending a PM, not working for some reason, might be my phone.
Thanks for the info. I'll just get my friends wife to make me a girth belt. I was just looking at other options.
I did a tutorial on the holsters. Here's the thread. I saw the general idea elsewhere.

Any other questions regarding the holsters just ask.
-
Thanks, I'll get to work on some of those on Monday for my set of blasters.
-
Slowly naturally weathering my flak vest. Currently just wiling my arms and legs off when I finish work.

Decided to go down the WW2 gaiter / leggings route. Bought some repro ones and died them black. Had to order some black laces as they wouldn't take the dye.

Cape test fitting. Is this suitable coverage etc? Anything wrong approval / crl wise?

Dyed and painted. Just needs tears and hole damage and more weathering.
