Title: Event Suggestion for Oct
Post by: The Red Mandalorian on Jul 03, 2014, 04:57 PM
I haven't read in depth our rules here, and I am not familiar with who all is in our local command structure, so if we have a member who is the "event organizer" for BC I apologize for not suggesting it to that person first.

My suggestion:
V-con 39 will be held 3-5 Oct, www.vcon.ca at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford hotel.
For those not in the know, It's a small literary Sci-Fi con, the longest running con in BC, it doesn't hold a candle to Fan Expo, in fact it's kinda boring.
What it does have is a small loyal group of people, with a very welcoming atmosphere the way con's first started.
The fun really is in the evening with the room parties and social get togethers, good people good time.

This would be a perfect con for our local growing Mando's to meet up, and get to know each other.

With all the flash of Fan Expo it didn't allow us really any time to come together and allow us to really meet each other and talk, with V-con's size and closeness we could achieve this.

The only requirment is to attend and enjoy each others company, there will be other SW members present, and maybe even the Ghost Busters group, they are good people.

What say you?

I like this idea, however I'm so poor I can't even afford bantha dung, (I live on the Island and with ferry costs, hotel fee, food stuffs,...).

I can be penciled in though, but I cannot promise jack or -censored-.

If we can get enough vode's interested in hanging out and enjoying themselves at this event, we can initiate an adopt a vode campaign.
Transport, food and housing for a couple vode's shouldn't be a problem.

Well I hope more people can get behind this.  I could also see going just for the day, (a long -censored- day at least).  LoL

Aye, I'm not sure which part of the island we'll be on in October, but if it works, I can always drag a few people along with one of the cars.

not sure if I can get the time off work, but will try.   my boss is taking a month off for their honeymoon starting the first week in october so we'll have to see how fast the place falls apart

my wife and i have our room for the con and our con passes . i think if you go to the site right now the cost is 45.00 right now for the weekend.

I have been co chair and ops for this con for many years and it is a fun little con . And if we want to run a fan table we get to free passes for the weekend included with the table . so those that can not scrape enough bantha dung together  am sure we can give you one them passes .

I live in Coquitlam/Burnaby so if we go it'll just be a quick drive down.   I put in for the day off, but we'll have to see.

note. if you can only make it in the evening, you should not need a pass.  Room parties and the social room is usually pretty inviting.  There is no emphasis to wear armor, the goal is to meet hang out, talk shop have fun.

Nice timing on that.  It is almost certain I won't be able to get any time off that weekend and highly likely I'll be working 15-hour shifts the week on either side of it :-\   That's work for ya...  never slow when it's convenient to be.
