Title: Mandos in the Okanagan?
Post by: CamBedore on Dec 25, 2014, 03:45 PM
I was just curious as to how many mandos there are out in the okanagan area? I live in Kelowna and would love to find someone in the area who has some experience in armour making to help me get started.

Hooray! Finally another Okanagan-er! ;D I'm just over in Summerland! :D Sadly, I'm kinda the only one around here, and I don't have anything but a helmet :P But I do know what I'm talking about most of the time ;)

Oh, and welcome to the Mercs! And a Merry Christmas :)

We certainly should! I've been meaning to get going on my kit here pretty soon, just have a few more ducks I need to chase into order ;)

Have you got any ideas for what kind of kit you're gunna build?

Im thinking a jango style kit minus the jet pack. I haven't fully decided on what I want exactly just yet. I just ordered a pre viszla helmet today that will be my first step towards my kit and am super excited about it  :P

Sweeet! Love the Viszla! 8)

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! And remember: This forum is full of helpful people! Read through all the WIP threads in the armor boards and ask questions if you don't understand something! Everyone is here to make sure you make the best possible costume! ;D

Welcome to the forums vode.
While we have few Mando's in BC, I always recommend hooking up with the local 501st, of which there are several in the Okanagan.

Sounds like a great idea. How would I get in contact with them from what I can tell from my quick search they don't have a forum set up like this that makes it easy to reach them. I may be wrong I just took a quick look.

Hey vode, welcome to the Mercs! It's great to see more activity out west, good luck with your builds.

If you have any questions that I can help you with feel free to PM me.

Cheers
Tact

I've got one of them on my facebook, if you want you can message me and I'll hook you up with him :)

Otherwise, you could go to the 501st Badlands Garrison (http://www.badlands.ca/forum/index.php?sid=4423a3d2981830105938a61f87fb2bd0) forum. I haven't had need to do so yet, but you could ask there for contacts to the Okanagan members. That way it's through a forum instead of your facebook, if that matters to you ;)

In Kamloops here, would like to find a way to get in touch with some locals! Just starting my journey - bought a new dremel kit and a heat gun today, ha ha. Eyed up all the giant gallons of Resin at home depot but had to tell myself one step at a time.

Would be great to have some connections for Mando'ade road trips. And bbqs!

I like the way you think Cyrika! Do you have a workshop? I live in an apartment so its not exactly the best place to work on anything that involves chemicals or paint haha.

My kitchen is my workshop currently. I have a buddy who has a garage we're outfitting to make into a workshop, but that'll be slow going with electrical upgrades (and his wife's stuff everywhere...). It would be difficult to work on your stuff in an apt setting - luckily I have a suite but even that is just patio and limited space.

Let's see if we can come up with something, or put some "ambition" to my buddy so that his garage is in working order. Fanexpo is just around the corner, then there's ComiCon aaaaaaaaand that movie or something being released this year  :D Time frames and deadlines are good for making things happen.

I work at a car dealership and have been going in on weekends to use some of the mechanics tools and the space but its not ideal since seeing as there are expensive cars that can get paint over spray on them that i would rather not have to pay for if they are damaged. I would love to try and find a place to get together and work on some stuff maybe have a mini armour party with you, Serim and myself in the near future. I'd like to have a good head start on my kit by the time Fan Xpo comes around.

I grew up in Kelowna during my teen years. Check out outerrimgarrison.com and get to know some of your local 501st!

Available this coming week (yes, full seven days!) to make a trip out to the O.K. area if something can be arranged for a work party. Emphasis on the party, and a little dash of work? I have my kit all cut out, but I've yet to delve into the bondo slinging.

Let me know? My schedule is open every other week (7 on, 7 off is a beauty rotation) and it's easier to go to the 'nagan than it is down to Vancouver. That will have to wait till better weather I think.

Saturdays are my only whole day off but I would be game for getting together. Unfortunately I don't exactly have a great space to work especially with multiple people. Also I don't have a ton to work on at the moment I have my bowcaster build attempt and am waiting on the arrival of my helmet which if it gets here this week I will have plenty to keep me busy.

I, unfortunately, have nothing to work on at the moment  And I probably don't have the greatest place to offer as a shop since it's about an hour South of Kelowna (pretty far for the both of you), though from what you guys are saying it may be the best option for armour parties... :-\
If you guys wanted, we could at least meet up and get to know each other? Could sit at a Tim Horton's, or something, draw up plans, discuss what you guys are working on, share pics and threads, ect.
While I don't have much of a kit, I can claim a fair amount of knowledge of the CRLs, how to build things, or where you could find tutorials/templates for what you want to do, so I can help out in that respect! ;D

I would be up for that Serim it would be good to have some help with a well thought out plan before getting too carried away. And I'm always happy to meet fellow Star Wars fanatics like myself :D I just got word about my helmet it should be shipped by this weekend hopefully so I don't have a ton to work on at the moment but I do have my bowcastor to work on. Hopefully we can work something out  ;D
