Armor Concepts / Droids, no or go?
« Last post by MagnusTheRed on Jun 23, 2019, 01:05 PM »
Ok. So I am not just wanting to be a part of the Marcs, but also have joined the R2 Builders Club and started designing a droid. Do Mandalorians use R Series Astromechs or is that sort of a new thing? If droids are a go, I think I can theme my droid around my armor as well, but also have themes from my droid in my armor.

Awesome man!!! How did u attach the scope mount (11 mm rail?) tu the support? Just the screw? This is an awesome work!

Thanks Vod :) I did build a rail from aluminium fitting for the scope, with screwholes for it. Sits like its glued on, the rail itself it glued onto the pla and has two steel bolts that are glued in deep into the guns core.

More updates!

I finally had the time to make the armour plating, cut from 20 gauge metal I bought at a metal supermarket. It feels awesome with the weight and feels functional! :)

The sizing took me a couple tries. I'm almost 5'6", however i had to use the 5'4" template from the dented helmet. I'm happy with it though! I also redid my helmet colour and went with the steel colour and brass/rust.

I will be assembling a jetpack eventually which i want to craft out of the same 20 gauge and then weld together. Same with the guantlets. The cape i'll be using a really old IKEA beige window drape. thick material which i think will look awesome once i weather it properly.

Images above are just the paint weathering, i have since gone back with coloured/dirt water to give it a grimy look.

All the armour plates are industrial velcro'd on which i may end up permanently stitching into the flakvest. Im waiting for my shade 5 welding face shield to get here from amazon to replace the current one.

Please let me know what you all think!

Janad Ruus out! :boba:

Well gentleman, it's been awhile

So after a long time I'm coming back to this bane/blessing I brought upon myself. Sanded down the whole thing to remove as much material and paint as I could (I've developed an irrational hatred of sandpaper) and started over. Painted a layer of silver, toothpaste in areas I wanted, then a layer of black. Let that dry, remove the toothpaste with paper towels, reapply toothpaste to include the black with the silver, then a final layer of grey.

Here's what we got:

A few comments:
-The first shot of the front looks slightly better in person than on camera, the light from overhead gives it that strange swirl look
-I can say upfront I think the back looks the worst of the five pictures, as no matter how much I sanded those lines and pops stayed in place (even took a belt sander to the thing...)
-The white material on the helmet in the fourth picture is bits of paper towel from the cleaning, easily removed and currently being cleaned off (it's along the rim, rightmost side of the picture)
-You can see in some of the shots that some of the grey is present in the silver and black (mostly in the spots where the toothpaste was thinnest), I can indeed scrape them off if needed, though I must pose a question if that is necessary, as I have seen similar helmets have bits of the top paint in the weathering (last bit of paint holding on)

Going to wait until I get feedback from the jury of experts before attempting the two helmet decals (jaig eyes and kill marks a la clone troopers). Many thanks for your patience with my shenanigans, and hopefully I'll get further along with this than last time.
