So I decide to play around with the idea of plates made carapace, mainly the carapace of a Lylek or Sand Demon. The two creatures are pretty much the same in general look. And for reference here is a picture of a Lylek.

Anyway, after many many many layers of paint, washes, dry brushing and a bit of glaze. Here is the outcome of the ab plates made from the carapace made from said beast. (Paint is still a bit wet in the picture.)

Not sure if carapace is an allowed material for early crusader plates, but my thought is that the hide of these two creatures is resistant to lightsabers, so why not use it for plating also. At least by my thinking carapace is very much so in line with the organic feel of the other approved early crusader material.

Any and all feedback is super welcome!

I think the idea of the creature is a cool one, its overall look lends itself well for the Early Crusader Era.
I would suggest trying to get a bit more of the variations of color in. Right now it reads just green and the creature has several colors making it up. I would wash in some yellows and browns as well to give it more of an organic feel.

So I pulled out all the stops, I feathered in some yellow paint, gave it another round of brown and yellow washes and busted out some old school molting techniques. Let me know what you guys think of round two of the paint job!  :D

Thanks Everyone!

I worked up some shoulder armor, am thinking I will do one armored shoulder and the opposite shoulder in the quitted design that you see on Mandalore the Indomitable. With the two shoulder parts connected to a central plate via a harness.

Am also working up some gauntlets/bracer, I have the base plates for them cut and shaped. I plan on creating some ridged lines on them to give them a more subtle layering effect, much like the ridges on the head plate of the Acklay. Anywho, that is a project for tomorrow. For now here is a picture of my carapaced shoulder plates

Also this is quickly going from a random thought project into a full on W.I.P

So I couldn't help myself, and I ask my wife to take a couple pictures of the ab and shoulder plates on my body. And am insanely happy with how they look.

So today, I picked up some leather and with the aid of my wife created a harness for the one shoulder I have done and for the ab plates. This working out how I want to do the other shoulder, and the chest plate. But anyway here is how the plates look all harnessed up. Once the other shoulder is attached to the central ring it will straighten out the ab plate.

I was also wondering if I could get away without doing a full chest plate, as I like the look of the mandalorian taung style armor which doesn't have a chest plate, just the harness.

You will need some sort of chest plate as they are required for the era, the harness alone won't be enough.

So I was able to get a ton of stuff done today. Got the helmet well underway, got my belt, loincloth and kama done as well. My hope is to finish up the helmet tomorrow and get cracking on the bracers. I plan on armoring both the loincloth and the kama before the kit is done. Also I must say that my head shape makes for a very tall bucket, though I like the look.

Side view (Plan are connecting that air hose into an air tank on my back)

Update time. I added another plate to the right shoulder, to help balance out my giant helmeted head. Made the shoulder look as if it was made from metal instead of carapace as well to help draw the eye a bit and just to give a touch more color and variety.

Also got the helmet all painted up just need to get the visor in. Opening up the nose plate a good deal more so that once the visor is in it will not be right up against my nose. Thank again to Tycho Villaz and Ruusaan Ordo for there advice on my kit.

Anyway, picture!
